I came in here to look at rings, but immediately lost interest when I was told I would be charged to measure my ring size. I didn't wear much jewelry at the time, but since being engaged/married I have been in jewelry stores ranging from fashion jewelry to fine jewelers and this is the only place I know that does this. I didn't ask for the exact amount because it barely takes any effort to use a ring sizing tool. You can get a free sizer from Pandora or order a ring gauge from Amazon. Or you could just go to any other jewelry store/jeweler for free? If they have to charge for services like this, maybe they can't afford to rent in Tahoe. I could have bought a ring from here but if they nickel and dime services I would rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

I was in search of a Lake Tahoe pendant. I looked online before arriving and they had several I liked. Seeing them in person changed my choice of favorite. I loved the Lake Tahoe out of stones, It was beautiful, but I had a fear of losing a stone. Then there was the pretty blue stone in the middle with out the gold in the back. And the one I picked the man made opal wit the yellow gold around the edge and back. It was the simplest and I won't have to worry about losing a stone. The gal helping us was very sweet. She took all of the pendants out and let me try them on. That really made a difference in deciding which one to get. After a very long time and several time trying them on, I got one that I liked. The pendant and most of them are made out of the shop. I think this one came from a whole seller in Grass Valley or somewhere in the area. If you see the pendants in other shops, they were all made at the same place, so don't worry none of them are knockoffs they are everywhere by the same whole seller. I would recommend this place to those that are looking for the perfect Lake Tahoe pendant. They also sell them as cuff links. read more

I was in the area for a wedding and noticed my watch battery was dead. I called the closest store and unfortunately they were unable to switch my battery but recommended bluestone. I called and spoke with one of the owners and he told me they can absolutely get me a new battery. I was able to bring the watch as soon they opened he went straight to the back and got it done within ten minutes and even cleaned the watch a little. While window shopping at Bluestone Jewelry I casually asked Benton if they did repairs on worn wedding bands. Mine had endured 33 years of daily use and abuse finally wearing to a very thin fragile band. Given the sentimental value of the ring I was cautious about any repairs. Benton took photographs and weighed the ring for an estimate. After dropping off the ring the jeweler completely rebuilt the ring adding gold to replace what I had worn off. I had a few pieces of jewelry I needed repaired. There are two jewelry stores in town, and while I usually go to Steve Schmier's Jewelry, Bluestone was on the way to work the day I decided to get my repairs done, and I dropped them off here. Big mistake. Schemer's has always taken very good care of me and my business, and this experience with Bluestone has just ensured I'm only going to Schmier's in the Boatworks Mall. When I dropped my pieces off, the staff was professional and helpful, took my items, took photos/inventory of repairs and current state of jewelry, and gave me a receipt. All good. About a week later everything was ready and I went to pick them up. Everything was repaired perfectly aside from 1 necklace, which was a special thin white gold necklace that needed soldering. The solder work was fine (they send that out to someone in Reno), however the chain had a kink in it near the clasp, that wasn't there before, purportedly from the clamp the jeweler used. This was obviously not okay and they said they would send it back to the jeweler to be remedied. I appreciated that they did this, and thought this level of care would continue. I paid $50 for that solder repair work on the clasp. A few weeks went by, and they called to say the necklace is ready. Life was busy, work was busy and I finally got to pick it up a few weeks later. The kink was still there. Remember I paid $50 to repair the necklace. The necklace costs around $100. They told me it's the best they could do, that "it's at the back of the necklace, no one will see it anyway, and if the chain was actually broken, we'd give me a new necklace, but in this case, since it's in the back, and negligible, how about a $5-10 refund." $5-10 dollars? That's insulting. That's a mockery. I entrusted my jewelry with them, and it's now damaged. How is $5 going to make me feel okay with this? I don't care if it's in the back, and no one will see it. It's the matter of the fact. If it's not repairable by them or their contractor, they should have remediated the situation to make sure I was happy with their business. In this case I am very much NOT okay with the way they handled my business with them. What a disappointing way for a business to treat a customer, especially one that lives and works here, and could bring them a great deal of future business. Unfortunately I'm never going back if I can help it. read more

We needed a setting for an engagement ring. My fiancé saw a Claude Thibaudeau setting online that she liked but wanted a few modifications to make it perfect.
