There was shaded seating, a few vendors (2 matcha/drink vendors near their flower shop, in the lavender fields - book vendor, honey, lavender gifts, vases/art, and a few other options to browse. We opted to do u-pick lavender and they had cute baskets with shears to borrow. Bundles were reasonably priced and you can also buy more lavender goods at their store. My daughter and her husband hosted my wife, her mom, and me over the long Fourth of July weekend, and we all went to the lavender farm on a Saturday afternoon. Parking is free on sides of a private gravel road, with a clearly marked entrance. Admission is $9 per adult, being purchasable at the gate, using a credit card. Leashed dogs are welcomed, and there is a grassy area in center where one can find shaded places to sit or play games under a tent, or play cornhole nearby. There is also a nearby field with wildflowers in various times of bloom. It was a clear day, allowing us to see impressive Mt Rainier in the background. There is a small gift shop on the premises, where a nice lady explained much about the farm. We ended up buying both lavender infused essential oils and roll-ons. External info: There seems to be five different types of lavender: English (aka Common or True), French (aka Fringed), Portuguese (aka Spike), Spanish (aka Butterfly), and Lavandin (hybrid of English and Portuguese). Within each type, there are cultivars (specific variation bred for specific traits like color and scent). We saw areas of both the Royal Velvet and Melissa, both cultivars of English lavender. We also saw Grosso, a specific cultivar of Lavandin lavender, which is the most popular for commercial use, reading its the most common lavender at the farm.

I believe it was part of the estate at one time, conveniently located next to the locks, it made for a great exploration of the gardens and locks. Weather was perfect. The next few weeks are a great time to see rhododendrons in full blossom ( Washington state flower) plenty of open lawn areas to enjoy a picnic or nap, great views of the locks and waterways. WOW I have been to the zoo SO MANY TIMES and I had no idea this was here!! It's such a nice garden…read moreto walk through-- saw a bunch of people having a lovely afternoon picnic here even!!-- and there are so many different roses and flowers in this garden. I had a great time sniffing all of them (even when some of them didn't smell as nice) and admiring and chatting with a friend. There were also some very cute bunnies that inhabit the space, and we watched them frolic a bit :) I like that they have a little sensory garden section where you were encouraged to touch the plants, especially the lamb foot leaf kind.

Seattle Chinese Garden is located at South Seattle College. It feels like a "set design" Chinese garden which has the facade, but not much of anything else. There is a main Chinese garden building and that is just about it. A bamboo garden can be found behind it, but it is not very big. Found it a bit difficult to get an Instagram worthy photo here. I would skip this spot if you are a tourist in Seattle and time is limited. From a community perspective though, I would find this an appealing place to visit if I lived in the neighborhood and was walking in the area.

What I didn't realize before going is that there are 9 light installations. Each tells a 3-4 minute part of the larger story. The music and lights are coordinated to tell the story. We explored the garden with the tunes of their music in the background and it made it so enjoyable as we walked the property. The entrance to the gardens is quiet tricky to spot but I called to ask for help and they were so so so helpful pointing me to where to go, even walking out to the street to direct us in the correct area. In all we would definitely come back and explore this garden. It's a hidden gem in Seattle. It's free to make an apt, but a donation goes along way.

I would not recommend renting it for any purpose, especially if you are queer. My partner and I just rented the garden last weekend for our joint birthday party and relationship celebration. We booked the garden a year in advance and clearly told the staff member who helped us about our party and why we were celebrating. On the day of the event, at the very end of the celebration, the manager briskly strode up to me and, clearly upset, said to me, "So you're the bride huh?" I am a trans nonbinary person who has has top surgery and I do not appear feminine. I was confused why she was forcibly gendering me and insisting on calling me a bride and imagined she must not understand our event if she thought we were getting married. I answer with an unsure, "I guess you could call me that." She said, "I need to see you in the office," then turned and walked away. I found my partner and we went to the office. She remained visibly upset and launched into a lecture in which she explained to us that people spend much more money to get married at the gardens and that we should have paid more since we were having a wedding. We assured her we in fact did not get married and had been completely up front with the staff member we worked with about our plans. She continued to be suspicious and angry, answering that she had overheard one of our guests calling the event a wedding. We assured her again that we were celebrating both of us turning 40 and our relationship, not having a wedding, but that some of our friends had been joking it was our "not wedding." We suggested that staff member may need to be more clear in the future if relationship celebrations are not allowed. She responded that the staff member had since left and had recorded our event as, she said this smirking and making meaningful eye contact with us, "a birthday party." It was clear that she didn't believe us and was going to continue with her assumption that we were actively trying to lie to her and her staff. We left the office shaken with a terrible memory after a celebration we had spent the last year planning to create loving memories. While I understand that she may have been confused, she could have approached us with any amount of curiosity or grace. This was a confusion caused by a garden staff member recording our party in a way she didn't understand. I would expect to be treated better by anyone, but it was especially sad to be so poorly treated by someone we were paying to use their space on a special occasion. She had no qualms infusing the meaningful day with anger, conflict, suspicion, and bias right at the finishing moment. Manager, whoever you are, you didn't even take time to introduce yourself before laying into us, if you get to read this, I hope you can understand what a lasting impact your behavior had on our day. You work in the event industry, I hope your communication can increase enough for that to keep being a good idea for the people you will serve in the future.

Tickets are $10 which is not too bad for such a gorgeous garden. I went on a weekday so the garden was peaceful and not crowded. Definitely worth a visit! We also went to the Washington Park Arboretum after since it was close by.
