I had a really nice visit at Bluewater Grill Avalon. The location is hard to beat... great views and a relaxed atmosphere and the service was solid from start to finish. I wasn't super hungry, so I just ordered the gumbo. It wasn't bad, but it was definitely on the salty side for my taste. That said, everything else about the experience made up for it. Located right on the water with an outdoor patio. Just a few minutes of walking from the ferry and the casino. It also opens later so it's a great spot for dinner before the last ferry back to LA. They have creative kids menu and the drinks, keeping them entertained during the meal. The view and ambiance is unforgettable, especially the sound of waves. I really wanted to like this place because of its beautiful location and is designed like the sort of place that I would like to spend time in and frequent often but the fish that I ordered was not fully cooked so I wasn't able to fully enjoy my meal. As mentioned it's right on the water on Avalon Bay and the restaurant has been renovated recently and is done really well. You can sit inside or out and it's great to be able to eat right on the water. Our server was nice although he did not check in on us during our meal but everything that we did order arrived quickly. We ordered Oysters on the Half Shell and Clam Chowder for the table and both were very good. Not the best I've had this month but still very enjoyable. For my entrée, I chose the Blackened Swordfish and at first it had some nice flavors but then once I got halfway through, I noticed some pink in the middle and realized that it was cooked about 65% through. I really wanted to finish my meal, but I was not able to due to the under cooking. I don't think undercooked swordfish is a smart idea. I would give it another try in the future, but hope to not experience what I did tonight, especially for the price point. read more

Had a great lunch here. Beautiful setting with ocean views and fresh breezes. We were greeted and seated quickly, very friendly staff. Scrumptious hot sourdough bread and butter! Try their Buffalo Milk...wow!! We ordered clam chowder, fried calamari and crab cake appetizers and they were all delicious. Everyone enjoyed their lunch. I ordered the Gold Spotted Sea Bass (I wanted something lighter after all the bread and appetizers - lol) and it was fabulous. Service was excellent, left nothing to be desired. It could be a little better seasoned but still decent. We got the oysters, fish & ships, salmon, new york steak, Cioppino, Calamari, and Gemelli pasta. Oysters - decent. you cant really go wrong with oysters. Fish & chips - bland. 3/10 Cioppino -Salty 4/10 . I know it says San Francisco Cioppino but it tasted nothing like the ones in San Francisco. Calamari - 8/10 the sauce to dip it with was good Salmon - 8/10 New york steak - 7/10 Our waiter took forever to come take our order. We had to ask for help a few times and even then there was no sense of urgency. They stated that the patio was busy. Okay? So the people sitting inside wasn't a priority? The blue cheese dressing on it was good, but they gave the smallest wedge of lettuce I've ever seen and a HUGE pile of raw onion. Not good at all for $15. The steak was perfectly cooked and juicy. It was my first time in catalina island and I was skeptical of all the food and prices. I thought for the amount of food I got the price was justified at $44. The steak was a bit bigger than i would have normally received anywhere else. This spot was extremely popular and had probably the top 3 biggest lines in the whole island. We had a party of 10 and it was fully packed but we only waited about 30mins to get seated which wasn't bad. Service was really good and staff was friendly. This was my second lobster roll of the trip and I definitely enjoyed this one better! I loved the traditional brioche roll, and the lobster tasted very fresh and there were a lot of big chunks. The fries were also very good and perfectly crisp. My only negative would be the lobster had too much mayo for my liking which also made parts of my roll soggy. Also, something to note which I'm not used to, is many of then restaurants in Avalon charge for their water. We had to purchase a water bottle for $1.50, but they provide a small cup of ice. Had a really nice time at the Bluewater Grill in Avalon for lunch with some buddies. We reserved a table ahead of time for 3 and they placed us outside right on the water, which was awesome. You're started with a portion of sour dough bread, and I decided to go with the Buffalo Milk cocktail, which was a great way to cool off. We shared the Baked Crab and Artichoke Dip, definitely more than enough for 3 people who are also ordering entrees. I ordered the Sandab Special, and they tasted pretty fresh. The scalloped potatoes and spinach made the plate really delicious. My friends also enjoyed their dishes, which were the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and the Fisherman's Platter. In all, it was about $45 per person if you each get a drink and split a starter. Service was great and I would go back. I love the blue water grill that is in Carlsbad, so I thought I'd go to a familiar with, with my fiancé on our engagement trip. The bread was quite good, but unfortunately that was the best part of the meal. The Miyosaki butterfish, black cod, pacific was where the issue was, the fish was decent, but portions of the rice was not fully done to where it was inedible. I had let the waiter know, and he replied he'll let the chef know, and then that's where the conversation ended unfortunately so I ate the remainder of the edible portion of the dish, paid for the food and left. We asked for a second serving as well. Fish and chips were good (similar to what you would expect). Fish tacos were also tasty - fish was fresh, good portion, option of corn or flour tortilla. Tacos do come with a side of rice which I didn't realize! We regretted getting the side of asparagus - $10 for a plate of 5 pieces of asparagus, and they didn't take off enough at the stem so the bottom was very fibrous and chewy. Not worth it, imo. It is odd that they don't give you free tap water. You have to pay $1.5 for a little bottle of bottled water. Seems like a better setup to get tea or soda for $4.5 and free refills. read more
