I was excited to try a local coffee shop when I was visiting Memphis. The Bluff City area appears to be trending up, which is always nice to see. However, I was disappointed in this shop. I bought a blended vanilla and paid more than I expected ($5.35), then the barista poured it an inch below the top of the cup. Not a terrible place, but I would not return. read more

Bluff City Coffee, by far, has the best coffee and espresso drinks for miles around! If you are an espresso lover, try the dark roast! I get it almost every time! It's great hot or iced! The pastries are amazing! The cheese danish is so moist and creamy! The Nutella pop-tart is also a fave! Their breakfast sandwiches are a great choice too! I like to get the sausage egg & cheese on an everything bagel...sooooo good!! The baristas are super friendly and the service is great! read more

Memphis...WAKE UP! You've got one of the best coffee houses I've ever enjoyed. The barista's know what they're doing, great coffee. A huge plus, the bakery...the offerings are homemade and the selection is very good. The service was quite personal, they made me feel like they really wanted my business, instead of making me feel like a customer that makes their job more difficult. The coffee maker was rude and all she did was yell and be a BITCH!!! "The lines over there and you can view the menu from over there so move". Great place if you want your breakfast/coffee to come with a show! I had the pleasure of hearing the manager (I'm assuming?) screaming at his employees as I waited for a $7 latte with burned milk. I have to say, the cookies were thick and delicious. Once, the staff forgot to make my boyfriend's latte, and when asked about it, it took another 15 minutes to get it to him. I would be willing to give them another shot, because the pastry case was stocked with good-looking stuff. read more

I am not a "coffee shop person". I don't typically hang for hours on my Mac, sipping a latte and periodically adjusting my thick frames. I really like this place though. It's a little gem in the South Main arts district (the very best part of town, in my humble opinion). The coffee for wussies (iced mocha is my preference) is very tasty and the baked goods are great. Quality iced tea as well. It's a perfect spot to hang on a hot day. read more

Coffee was ok, but the server messed up our order twice..I felt bad for the guy because he seemed stressed and I didn't want to make a big deal after the second time we noticed he gave us the wrong thing. The owner or manager of the store seemed kind of rude to him and came off as rude in a general way. Don't think I will come back. read more

I stopped in for an iced latte after a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum. The coffee was fine, better than Starbucks, and I liked the decor- prints of old Memphis but the lack of music made for an awkward silence. The thing I will remember is the baristas and their conversation behind the counter. They were friendly enough and I was served quickly but their choice of topics was a little unprofessional. A lengthy discussion of their birth control of choice and the pros and cons of each was had right at the cash register. I don't care one way or another about their preferences but it doesn't make for a great first impression. read more

Not my favorite coffee place in Memphis; the espresso is a little weak. Cappuccinos were fine, but my Chai tea latte was like drinking syrup. I ordered something else to replace it and was thanked for my second purchase... also a definite smell of soap instead of coffee in the place. It's ok. Not sure why they have so many fans, probably because espresso is hard to find in Memphis? Or maybe because we try and celebrate local buisnesses? To be honest, It's an ugly, dirty place with no identity. Pastries are nothing spectacular, coffee is good; overpriced like starbucks and most starbucks knock-offs. Funny how cashier doesn't know or care if the wheat bread is whole wheat or not. Also cashier was very rude. I asked if they had soup, she turned and pointed to the "no soup sign" located on the back counter. Also, flies were trapped in the pastry cabinet, yuk! When notified about them she simply replied, "they are difficult to get out." read more

In their booth at the Downtown Farmers market, a 12 oz coffee (not filled to the top) was $3; a bit high but it's convenient so I overlooked that. I went back with my daughter to get a muffin and asked about a refill to warm it up and the response I got was, "Well, I guess we could do $2 on the refills." Sorry folks but $5 for 20oz of coffee is twice the going rate. The Main St. Is also overpriced for the average service and facilities. read more

Get there and line is long during river arts. Wait, go up to order, the cashier yells "no credit this weekend" for the first time since I've been in line. There's credit card signs on the door and no sign anywhere. So I go to an ATM, wait in line again, and order "a large coffee." Assuming it will be drip, I'm instead given an Americano without being asked anything else (I looked all over the menu, if there was an indication I didn't see it). I go to sit down to use my laptop and the wireless doesn't work. The girl up front keeps yelling Meanwhile, the manager/owner is sitting in the back on his computer, occasionally wanders over, never helps with the ever-longer line. The poor barista is worked like crazy: the only one making coffee, while one persons only job is to get pastries out of a case. I feel for the Barista, and was really upset with the manager, who seemed to care less that his employees were really, really overworked. Needs new management. And it's ridiculous that you can't get reasonably priced dripped coffee. Extra star for how hard two of the employees were working. read more

This was our first and last visit. My daughters and I love coffee and usually stop by a coffee shop to pass time prior to my oldest having to go to work. We happened upon this shop and decided to give it a try. Our initial impression was that it looked rather inviting, but that is as far as it goes. The young man behind the counter was not at all confident in himself. If you're going to have an alternative lifestyle- own it. Secondly, I was over charged for the pumpkin loaf by .50. I pointed this out to him and mentioned that the sign on the pumpkin loaf said it was 2.95 not 3.45. He tried to remedy the situation by saying since the cash register rang it up at that amount then it didn't matter what the advertised amount was. The third issue was that my daughter tried to pay with her Visa gift card, and he told her that it would not work on this system - he didn't even try to swipe it. Lastly, after sitting down with our overpriced coffee and pastries, we were told that the shop closed at 5:00 pm. I found it really offensive and absurd that we were told that, considering the posted time on the window was Monday-Thursday open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. We visited the shop at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday, January 24, 2017. read more
