This place was really nice, while it lasted. The coffee was always excellent, and the vibe inside was relaxed. And oh my, the variety of food items was impressive. I was sorry to read in a news media report that this joint had suddenly closed on April 26th, 2025. My only regret was that I'd only patronized this location sporadically, as I rarely found myself in that area of the city. Well, at least there's still their sister location in the Cooper-Young neighborhood. I may have to try it out, eventually. read more

We were needing some coffee and breakfast before we got the Civil Rights museum. Glad we stumbled upon this place. The cashier was very helpful and friendly. The POS was down both days we went there. But it was easy to purchase everything online. Their bagel was different but good. It's made with a focaccia dough. My son devoured the brownie. The chai was good, but I accidentally added sugar when I ordered so it was too sweet. Mt partner said the coffee was just ok. They have a great selection of homemade bakery items. THIS IS MY SPOT, anytime I'm in town. I wake up early just to take a leisure walk down Mane St (teehee) to get my homemade biscuits. Sometimes I'm a rosemary girl and sometimes just plain. But the coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods are really hard to choose between. I love the window market in the front and how they always have something new to drool over. The staff is super friendly and giving all the Memphis Hospitality you need for the morning. The raspberry pop tart wasn't my favorite but I liked that it wasn't as sweet as regular pop tarts. I had a decaf white mocha sub almond milk. I liked that it wasn't served piping hot, the waiting game to drink a hot drink is annoying, but this one was served just hot enough. This place was a short walk from our AirBnB. I loved the peanut butter oat bites so much, I went back a second day for them and plan to make them at home. My husband's breakfast sandwich (sausage egg and cheese on everything bagel) was a 2-day hit as well. Their website said they had a "general store" with fruit, veggies, etc. it's actually just a cooler that was sparsely stocked, though I could have been there before stocking took place. We also tried the yogurt parfait (as expected) and the raspberry "pop tart," which was generously filled without being messy and oozy. Super friendly staff and clean, welcoming seating area, both inside and out. I got the cream cheese roll (basically a cinnamon roll) and was delighted by the first bites. Nicely flavored and icing not too sweet. Alas, as I got to the center is the roll, the cinnamon spread mixed with raw batter, and I could hear Paul Hollywood saying "That's undercooked." Haven't been here for a few years. I grew disgusted with seeing flies in the pastry case at every visit. So...two years later I hoped things would grow finer with time. Unfortunately my first stop upon arrival was the restroom; but one was out of commission. The functioning facility was missing towels and the mismatched seat seemed to illustrate the lack of attention to details I had noted years previous. After emerging with still wet hands, I noticed the well stocked bakery case was both appetizing and fly-free. Though tempted, it would require a few more visits before ordering a bite. Almond Latte and an Americano were our drinks for the day. The Americano was good, shot was smooth and drink served at less than lava hot. The latte was a bust. Only a hint of foam and zero texture. Taste was bland. Bottom line, I may return to BC when in the area but mainly because I won't pay $10 to park near Tamp & Tap, and spots can be harder to find a few blocks north when LoFi is open. This place barely has indoor seating currently, what they have is not too pleasant to sit in because it's so close to the line of people waiting to order. Their outdoor seating is pretty nice but there's only three tables. Tomato feta croissant - not a croissant, more like a bread roll. It was definitely not a pastry item. It tasted okay. Ultimately the awesome food trumped the lackluster aesthetic for me. The homemade "pop tart" is incredible. The most tender pastry and a very generous portion of a sweet thick raspberry filling and then there's that perfect glaze with sprinkles on top. The blueberry muffin is a big one and is FULL of blueberries and oh so fresh. Tried the foccacia dough filled with sun dried tomato and feta. Came here twice and the people get nicer and nicer. It's a place to stop by if you need a pick me up near the Civil Rights Museum and a breakfast sandwich. They are known for their biscuits (either apple cheddar, rosemary, or whatever the flavor of the day is) and make it a breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, cheese, or chicken! It's a place you could do work at, but seating is limited. It's cute, but the ambiance is nothing upscale and a little run-down. This place is so good, I stopped in everyday while I was in Memhis! I tried a different speciality drink each visit but the Golden Kelli was my favorite. My husband would just get a large black coffee and said it was some of the best coffee he has ever had anywhere. Their biscuits are phenomenal and the service is friendly. Prices aren't bad either. Visiting Memphis and found this cute coffee shop. I enjoyed it so much, I came back for a second day. This was not the best day for service. An older man was at the register and taking orders. I can only guess he owns the place because I don't know who else would be so comfortable offering such horrible service without regard. Before I could even take a breath to open my mouth, I was berated with "What's your order?" and then "What do to want?!" I can't even explain the curt tone. As I begin to order, I'm rushed to order faster. It wasn't a full shop, there was only a couple behind us. I asked if they had green tea and was instructed to read. Well, I would have if the details weren't listed behind the man who is rushing the order. Then I asked for a custom cookie box. They have these wonderful looking bake goods but clearly they don't want to sell them. When I asked for the box I was first told I couldn't get one because it takes too much time. Finally, I was given the opportunity to order. Again, while rushing the order I asked a clarifying question about if a chocolate chip granola was included in the custom box. All I got was further berating. Wooosaaa!! I complete the order and the total was $49.67. I asked for the itemized bill. Well... that request was refused. Also I'm a regular there and have been for years. There's tons of coffee shops in the area so you can easily avoid this place. I was really glad to find this spot. After driving through some of Memphis to get here you start to wonder what kind of shape this place will be in... but no worries, it is in a great part of downtown where you can feel free to relax outside, inside, wherever, and enjoy some good coffee! I got an iced tea latte, which was a little bit of a special order on my part... but seriously it was DELICIOUS. The baristas took a lot of care to make sure I liked it and that it was made how I wanted. My husband's black coffee was great too. My only complaint was with the desserts/pastries. My brownie was good, but my husband got a strawberry cookie... and honestly, it just tasted like all the other food in behind the glass. All the flavors had just really attached themselves to the cookie, especially some sort of onion or garlic-y flavor from one of their savory options. Was so disappointing! We loveeee to try local coffee shops when we travel so we were excited to see this one just around the corner from our condo.. but sad to discover the coffee was not our favorite. The absolute worst coffee... we were on our way to Vice and Virtue and noticed Bluff City and decided to try since we'd never been. Huge mistake. I don't agree with paying $6 for a small latte PERIOD, but especially not for really horrible lattes. My husband got the iced Haley's comet and I got some honey/cinnamon whatever hot latte that's one of their specials... I tried to finish them, but only got a few sips in to both, involuntarily making faces and gagging between, before dumping them. Really tried not to since we spent so dang much on them! Remember that part in Elf when Buddy tries coffee for the first time and hates it but he keeps drinking it until his dad tells him "you don't have to drink that," and he says "thank you" ??? I came here because a family emergency brought me downtown during the work day. I brought my computer intending to drink my coffee and work for maybe 15-30 minutes until my wife finished tending to the emergency. It was busy but there were tables and single seats available when I was second in line to order. Seats are first come, first serve. Plenty of singles, doubles and families were sitting and eating their food for an extended period of time. As the customer in front of me finished ordering, the owner at the counter said "no computers today." It would have been more understandable if he had asked if I could limit my time or just let me know what was going on. I didn't know that a bowl game would create this issue, and just wanted a place to sit, drink a coffee, and work for a limited amount of time. I ended up going to Hustle & Dough instead .02 miles away, and there was a much better ambience, better coffee, and much nicer staff, despite themselves being just as busy, if busier than Bluff city coffee. The owner/person at the register responded to my Yelp review about ten minutes after I posted, which really does show that you were not truly as busy as you claim. read more

Everything on my visit here was stellar. Sad to see bad reviews based on staff. Maybe they have fixed these issues. The ladies who helped us were very kind and helpful with suggestions. Not the best I have ever had, but I would come back for it. What I would come back for every day though is those dang cheddar garlic herb biscuits. Holy cow!
