For longer than I can remember I've done business with this local BMW dealership. 5 BMWs I personally bought and 2 VW my daughter purchased, not to mention several referrals.....I will now never return here again. This has not been an overnight occurrence but rather over the past year or more the service has slowly dwindled away. Today though was the final straw. Tyler the service guy was beyond rude and degrading. Called before I came for a simple tip off on oil and was told come on in. This is something I've been able to do in the past when my oil light has come on in between oil changes. Not only here but even at other BMW dealerships when I've been out of the area. Not only do they no longer do this, but they treated me like I was an idiot for asking. I was told to buy it at the service desk and they would charge me to put it in. So flustered I went to service desk to even ask what kind to buy. After asking Tyler refused to even get up and help. It took 15 min to even figure out what to sell me. Bought the oil and took it home to do myself. PTL for google. I'm not a car person this the reason for buying a higher end car that normally comes with superior service. Needlessly say it will be the last dollar I ever give them. After looking in my manual and online it literally took 5 min. Covid has created not only laziness but a lack of customer service. By the way no shuttles anymore if you drop your car for service. Better walk home.....as they've let me do in the past as well. In fact they almost act as if it's an inconvenience to take your money. Most of the good employees are gone now. I found several up at Mercedes in SLO. They knew the meaning of taking care of a long term customer. We went back and forth via text message, then his Sales Manager, Ali, got involved. I told him what I wanted for my trade and I said that I wanted to pay only MSRP. We came to terms, he emailed me a credit application and said that he would hold the car for me without a deposit. We made arrangement to drive down the day after Christmas to pickup the new car. On our drive down, we texted him our ETA. When we arrived, the car was ready. We had to go for a bathroom break, then we showed them my trade, then we went into the finance office. Their finance office is really high tech, everything was done on a huge desk like monitor. There was no pressure to buy anything else. From arrival to drive away in the new car, less than 1 hour! Many dealers there seem to adopt an arrogant demeanor with little concern to customer service, as if they're doing you a favor talking to you. I was in the market for a 2022 BMW 430i convertible and live in Los Angeles county. I used CarGurus to find all available cars in a 200 mile radius and reached out to all BMW dealerships in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and that is also how I found BMW Santa Maria. The dealership is about 3 hours away from Los Angeles and they even delivered the car to my home at my convenience. This is for the salesman part because I never bought my car here for a reason since the dealers are snobby and think otherwise , but mainly this is for the Service dept.. two staff on service dept are great , but this is for the "actual work " being done to your vehicle (and a vehicle you pay 40k at the least and expect better service) I get from the service department. I seem to doubt they fix or changed the oil in my car.. nothing is ever resetted in my dash as if there's still ongoing issues with the car that I brought it in for. I always gotta Bring it back so they can reset it , but this time they took less than 1 hr and called me to tell me my car was done. Yet my cars status on lights says otherwise. Paid 120 for an oil change, I am starting to doubt it was even done. They NEVER, NEVER have loaner cars for you. You Gotta book it what seems 2 months ahead. They sure are "limited" on cars to loan when they are a car dealership. That's the most ironic thing I ever seen from a BMW. There's times I've left my car an ENTIRE work day. No loaner car?? Sure , well I guess I twiddle thumbs all day??? I highly do not recommend this service dept or dealership to even an enemy if I had one! read more

Went in for a pre scheduled appointment to have an open recall on my bimmer taken care of. Service advisor Erick was great and displayed outstanding customer service skills. Shout out to him. I returned in the afternoon to pick it up with no issues. They completed the work the same day, and accurately answered a few technical questions I had about the recall work that was done. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they even took the time to wash my car, even though it was recall work. I will never, and I repeat never, purchase another car from this dealership again. Last year, I purchased a new BMW X1 and several months later a used X3 from this place. The X3 had a terrible sound coming from the back brakes. After taking it in to have repairs done on the brakes, I was told by the service department that there was nothing they could do. I was told by the rude man with the mustache in the service department, before he even listened to or examined the car, that it was normal and not to expect BMW to do anything. This car only had 11,000 miles on it and was still under warranty. There was something clearly wrong with the back brakes. The screeching sound was terrible. I took the car to a reputable BMW mechanic in Arroyo Grande who examined the car and told me I needed new brakes. Well, $840.00 dollars later and with new brakes, the noise disappeared. This repair, the car was still under warranty, should have been done by the BMW dealership in Santa Marie. Stay away from them. They did not honor the car's warranty and do not stand by their product. Bad business practice. read more

Had an issue today with my 335d the oil pan is starting to wear out (unfortunately it's aluminum) and it started to leak. Eric at the service department was very professional and helped me figure out options to get my new oil leak fixed because replacing the whole oil pan is very expensive and also the parts aren't even available due to supply chain issues. Eric was able to get me in and set me up with a sweet loaner vehicle because I had to work the next day and they needed my car overnight. They fixed the leak and got me on my way for less than $400. The service staff, sales associates, finance managers and every single employee we have encountered during our four years with this dealership has been better than expected. Jonathan met us outside and took us straight to the truck and let us take it for a test ride. He was knowledgeable about the vehicle and had great customer service. Rudy worked with us on the price of our trade-in and the price of the vehicle to get it to a point I was comfortable. He was also able to work in a good deal on the warranty. Jonathan was helpful with all of the paperwork and working with us on getting the vehicle that night (we froze our credit and didn't unfreeze it because we weren't expecting to buy that night) All of this is typically expected...What set them apart is that their customer service didn't end after the sale. It did require a bit of a nudge to remind them what we needed but they always followed through. They located the second key, retrieved all of the specs for the vehicle (I was looking for the towing capacity), and said they would get us a front licence plate carrier at no-cost (still waiting on this one...more nudging). They were very accommodating to my pregnant wife and 14 month old child during the entire process. The ONLY negative of my experience with BMW of Santa Maria is they advertised the truck with larger trailer mirrors (they usually run $250-300) and I liked them because I tow a lot. The truck did not have them on there, though. When I asked Rudy about it he said something about the quality check of all of their vehicles and they probably had to remove them for that reason. Between the ad going up and use buying the truck in a couple of days...they somehow managed to get the OEM mirrors with matching paint. I have a feeling they put the trailer mirrors on there to make the truck appear larger in the advertisement. This was somewhat irritating but it didn't kill the overall satisfaction. I have a vehicle with a current airbag recall. I have been in touch with BMW of Santa Maria for over 3 months. I followed up every 2 weeks and was told the part was unavailable. I am a tenured member with the BMW Car Club of America and work with several BMW independent repair shops. I noticed that several people with similar vehicles where having their airbags replaced with no mention of a backorder. I decided to call BMW of North America. I was told the airbag is available and BMW of Santa Maria was looking at an old part number which had been updated. BMWNA went above and beyond to email the dealership with the new part number and ask them to order the airbag. BMWNA then set me an appointment 3 weeks out even though the representative said 1 week would of been sufficient to ensure the airbag was ordered and had arrived. After making babysitting arrangements, taking a day off of work and driving 30 minutes each way, I arrived for my appointment. After going through the entire check in process the Service Advisor decided to check if the airbag was there. Glad he did because it wasn't. Both SA's working apologized and I was told the person that handles airbags is on vacation. I called BMW of North America back. They left a message for the case manager that helped me originally. She called back shortly and let me know she researched the issue and has all of the screenshots and sent emails to the dealership. She let me know that BMW of Santa Maria dropped the ball and did not order the airbag. I am disgusted with BMW of Santa Maria. I am a General Manager for a large business in San Luis Obispo. I am actively involved in the BMW Car Club of America and in the Porsche Club of America. I am an Instructor with Tire Rack Street Survival and BMW Car Club. I am a Michelin Tire Ambassador. Misleading pricing, ZERO follow-through, awful customer service, dirty sales techniques and pathetic level of professionalism. I NEVER thought buying a BMW could be a terrible experience but somehow, BMW of Santa Maria achieved it. My first visit I was told that a particular promotion was offered only until the end of the month (this was June 2019) then it would expire. They ended up giving me the SAME discount when I returned in September. The car was discounted to $40k from a sticker of approximately $46k, yet somehow on my purchase agreement, the purchase price was $44k discounted to $40k. So...somehow an additional $4k was added so that they could discount it back to $40k. Many things were promised to me upon signing, including a full detail, touch up on chipped paint spots, an appointment with the "genius" and repairs to a speaker that was vibrating. I never heard from the salesman Saul or anyone else about these items until I called to complain and say that I wanted out of the deal because nothing was being taken care of after almost two weeks! I then received a flurry of phone calls trying to make this "right." When I finally got the appointment with the "genius," I showed up and he forgot we had an appointment then tried to do some half-ass fix that he told me he was going to do three days before. So I left without having the "genius" appointment where they explain how the tech of the car works. Having never heard from the service department who was supposed to call to schedule an appointment, I went in and scheduled an appointment myself. Mike in finance sold me GAP coverage at $12/month...I spoke to my insurance agent afterwards and she added it for $40 for the entire year, I was shocked. I called to have it cancelled and was told that they cannot change my monthly payment but it would be deducted from the principle of my loan . I am not a novice car buyer. I have purchased 7 BMWs in my life and know what this process is supposed to look like. My family and I have purchased 6 vehicles from this particular dealership and have never experienced anything like this before. If you're in the market for a new BMW, I URGE you to make the trip up to BMW SLO or down to SB BMW. If zero stars was an option, I would've chosen that. Once the promised services are performed, I will NEVER return and make sure that anyone I know in the market for a is informed of this experience. Update: The full detail that was promised turned out to be a horrible exterior wash only...they claimed they couldn't duplicate the issue with the speaker but it made the same vibrating noise as I drove off the lot; I was simply too frustrated at this point to go back. Service advisor was nice but actual repair was awful. My 328 was under extended warranty and I brought it in for a valve cover oil leak. I drove it for for a few weeks and the leak was back as bad as ever, with smoke coming out from under the hood. I brought it in again and the same thing happened--they said it was fixed and it started smoking again after a few weeks. At that point my warranty had expired. read more

I took my wife's car (2017 X5 35d) to BMW Santa Maria after a recall letter saying it could catch on fire if we didn't. They complete the recall and give me no follow on information. I go about 100 miles later to smog it for the annual. They tell me that EGS monitors aren't set so I need to drive it more. I drive it almost 1k miles and take it back. EGS monitors STILL not set. Make another appointment for the dealer to check why. They do their super secret process to reset them while driving my car 34 miles in whatever manner and won't show me the process due to corporate policy, at which time a check engine light comes on and they say it's a #1 glow plug and want me to pay to replace it, plus the diagnostic fee for resetting the monitors which they unset and don't tell you about. A car with only 68k miles that had no light when they got it. So I talk to the manager about why it's my responsibility to fix what happened in their custody as a result of the recall they performed which unset the monitors. He(Emmanuel) accuses me of somehow resetting the codes and not making it pop while they had it until 34 miles later in some scheme to make them pay for maintenance. So I talk to his manager(Rudy) who then tries to convince me that I just misunderstood the accusation somehow. He doesn't confirm when that code popped 34 miles after they had it, I had to take it to another shop to disprove Emmanuel's accusation because Rudy was clearly not interested in digging into the details. Then Rudy says their decision is to not cover the repair cost regardless. When I picked up the car, manager Emmanuel was at the customer service desk and after I note a clear discrepancy he doesn't want to discuss why the paperwork says "customer states check engine light on" when it obviously didn't happen until they drove the car, and rudely tells me who he is and asks me to leave without signing paperwork or correcting the records. So I ask Rudy to find out who added that to my paperwork. He says he'll get back to me the next day with who added that specific language, doesn't do that and I get no communication about it until I ask him specifically 3 business days later, then lies to me and says he sent an email. When I challenge him to produce it by forwarding it again, he says he got confused and overwhelmed by the number of texts. Then he refers me to the same lower manager that already asked me to leave and refused to correct it. I filed a complaint with BWM corporate. Completely unprofessional, poor leadership, and shady management practices in my opinion. read more

Took my 2004 BMW 530i twice to Santa Maria dealership for smog. My 1st appointment I showed up, and the service department told me that I have to just drive it to reset oxygen sensor. They did not even hook it up to a reader. The fella behind the counter told me that he had the same issue, make and model. Since my tags were already paid he suggested that I get moving passes from the DMV which I did. After receiving a ticket for no tags. I took my car back to BMW, and said I really need this fixed. They took the car, and we're going to do a full diagnosis. At the end of the day they called to tell me that my transmission had multiple cracks and was leaking. They said that they could not do the drive test until the transmission was full and add dye $700 cost. I asked if the transmission had anything to do with the smog and he said no. This is going to add just another cost (totally appreciate his honesty), but we can not do the drive test for smog until then. I declined the extra charge, and picked up my car and paid $175 for labor. After driving 20 min down the road. I realized my license plate was removed and stuffed in side pocket of driver side door. I immediately called back and asked why my license plate was removed and not reinstalled before I picked it up. The woman I spoke with was the DMV clerk, and she was in shock. She said if I get a ticket while driving home they would take care of it. Now, I have never seen any transmission fluid leaking in my drive way. After thinking it thru, and knowing I have a small oil leak that sprays on to the transmission and the undercarriage. Which make me believe they did not even look at the transmission and just seen the oil spray. I most definitely will be taking my business somewhere else. read more

Look, not even the very best car dealership is able to completely satisfy every customer. Car buying can be a very stressful, complicated process for a vehicle that is often the most expensive product a consumer will purchase (next to a house). Let me say starting out that my recent purchase of a 2019 330i was the eleventh vehicle I have bought at BMW Santa Maria over the past many years. Almost all have been from the legendary Joe Alvarez. The other sales people I have worked with, including Jesus Rocho, finance guy Jonathan, and, of course, Cameron Love, have been excellent. With only minor hiccups, all of which have been addressed while buying those 11 cars, the process has been relatively stress free and even enjoyable. Everyone, from the receptionist to the service department, even finance has a great sense of customer service. Questions get answered. Problems get solved as much as possible. Recommendations: have your questions in writing. If you have a question or a problem don't be afraid to ask. Do your research before you walk in. Treat the BMW folks with respect. Be nice. After contacting 3 other BMW Dealers closer to Ventura, I called BMW of Santa Maria. Edgar in Sales was the first salesman who knew more about the iX all-electric than I did - none of the other Dealers had sales people who knew the BMW products as well as the Santa Maria BMW dealer and Edgar. He helped me and my wife to spec out a new iX (similar in size to the X5), answered every question I asked. We placed an order at MSRP (all the other Dealers were adding huge dealer profits to the price), and Edgar kept us fully informed frequently during our wait for BMW to build and ship the order. All questions I asked of him throughout the process were answered promptly and accurately. At delivery I felt that the Dealership was more interested in us having a positive dealership experience than it did in squeezing out a few more $$. After being all but kicked off the lot at Crevier down here in the OC (was it my converse, Crevier?), i decided to turn my search online. I went to BMW's website, put in exactly what I was looking for, and found it at BMW of Santa Maria, some 230 miles away. I put in the call and told them my situation: I'm a million miles away, you have the exact car i'm looking for, and I need to handle this all over the phone. Marc Englert was my sales person and was as nice as could be. There was no haggling or pushy nature. After they quoted me an interest rate that I thought was too high for my credit score I told them I'd find my own financing with a lower rate; they ended up matching it. Calling in sick to work the next day I was giggling like a school girl the entire drive up. On arriving, Marc walked me over and showed me what would be my car after signing the already completed paperwork. He provided paper towels to handle my drool. An hour later I had traded in my old ride and was driving / flying home. I've never been so happy and so shallow all at the same time. These guys were great.. Marc even sat in the car with me for about 15 minutes showing me all the car's features as well as syncing up my phone. My inner geek was very pleased.
