We are from out of town and wanted to try a local spot, and BnR Country Restaurant was absolutely worth the gamble. Our waitress, Brylee, was wonderful. She was attentive, kind, and always paying attention to whether we needed anything without hovering. We started with the appetizer sampler and chose the fried pickles, okra, and green beans. Everything came out hot, fresh, and lightly breaded, which I really appreciated. Nothing felt greasy or overly heavy. Also, the sweet tea was actually sweet and delicious, not that sad "dark water" tea you sometimes get other places. We split the chicken fried chicken sandwich and an order of 8 honey BBQ wings. Both came out at the same time, and honestly, we probably could have chosen just one because the portions were huge. For the price point, that was a big plus. Everything I saw on the menu looked reasonably priced and fair for today's economy, no price gouging. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. The breading was light, the outside was crispy, and the chicken was still juicy. The wings were fried naked and crispy before the sauce was added, which I loved. My only tiny nitpick would be that there was a little more sauce than I personally prefer. I would have liked the option to add more sauce if needed, since you can always add more but can't take it off once it's on. Overall, this was such a good experience. We love the food here and the staff work hard. Our ONLY complaint is it's incredibly loud when crowded. There is no carpet to absorb sound and there are video games in the main dining room.Between that and ,for some reason parents often let their kids run wild in this establishment, it's not a quiet environment. Food was very good, atmosphere was great. I'm from out of town and this place was recommended by no less than 3 different people. Got a double burger but really wanted some BBQ too so asked if they could add pulled pork on top. They did it without question and with a little extra BBQ sauce and it was amazing! I wasn't a fan of the fries because they weren't as fresh as I would have liked. I heard the onion rings were bomb, but I didn't try them. I will go back next time I'm in town for sure 100%! Everything needs improvement!!!! The burger was a 1/4 inch flat tasteless patty!!!! The fries I'm assuming were dipped in fish batter!!! We had to wait 35minutes for a lousy burger!! What an amazing find! I've seen a full parking lot for years here and we all decided to give it a shot. The burgers were cooked perfectly, salads were fresh and homemade chicken salad on top, and chicken fried steak out of this world. The watermelon margarita was tasty and wish they had a hazy IPA. I have to give this place a major shout out for their excellent service! My niece recently made the cheerleading team at the local intermediate school and I wanted to get her BnR pizza (her favorite) to celebrate. The BnR staff worked to make sure she had pizza ready for pick up for an 11:15 lunch, even though they open at 11:00. They even made sure to throw in a ranch because the owner said he knew how much kids that age love ranch, lol! I have dined in the bar area 2 times. The first time I had the ultimate grilled cheese, the bartender recommended adding pulled pork, it did not disappoint. The menu is just enough to satisfy mosts tastes. The fried jalapeno slices are addictive. The pizza is really tasty, especially if you like thin crust. The servers are very friendly and cater to all age types. There is a bar in one room with outside seating. It can be very loud. Highly recommended for small or large groups. read more

Really great place! LOVED the fried okra! It's hand breaded, which is a rarity. I still think pan fried is better than deep fried, but this is clearly the next best thing. Fried catfish was crisp, moist, and well seasoned. Fantastic. Loved the chunky tartar sauce and corn fritters, which are better than the hush puppies (the premade frozen kind). We had a decent meal here recently. The place was pretty busy and the staff was doing their best to keep up. The fried pickles were just ok. Too much breading for our liking. The catfish plate was tasty. The portion size was enough for 2 meals. The club sandwich was pretty good, although it was served hot which is a little different. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring our daughter's meal out with ours. We asked them to take it off, since she just shared ours, but they brought it out at the end of our meal any way. As travelers, we prefer to hit the local places. We had dinner here last night; the parking lot was full and the place was hopping. Our server was so busy we were lucky to get one menu for the two of us. We noticed that she did the same for other tables. She did a great job staying in touch with us, however. My husband has the catfish platter, which he said was really good. I had the Jalapeño, Cheddar, Chicken Sandwich. It was huge! I had to ask for silver because they don't have it available and she seemed surprised I wanted any with a sandwich and fries. The chicken was overdone so it was a little dry and touch to bite. Otherwise, it was very good. It is a loud restaurant. Like so many, they've removed the carpet and any ceiling acoustics so we gave up trying to talk with each other. I know it looks good, but when you can't hear the person right next to you, it is not good. When we left there were still folks pouring into the parking lot. They really could use more parking there. And remove the one car in the back that's obviously been there awhile. I'd go back if we lived here. read more

Some of the nicest people in town! The waiter, bartender, the server who held open the door for me. Wow, what a great welcoming for a city boy like me. The menu is huge. There is something on there for everyone. I started with the fried pepper jack cheese, which honestly wasn't good. The pepper jack wasn't spicy and basically tasted like something that should be on a cheese board. Now that chicken sandwich was slap your momma good. The true hand-battered chicken tenders, not Sysco, with the combined Asian & Texan dipping sauce are off the charts good. I'm an absolute nut for tenders and these are in the top 3 of all restaurants I've tried. The waitresses, bar tenders, & busers are top notch and constantly moving, checking on customers, and cleaning. My guess is they enjoy their jobs and are engaged because of an effective leadership team. Most eateries today have unhappy workers and it shows. Not here! The staff is epoch, always friendly and extremely customer focused. We've only tried the pizza...on several occasions...not epoch. I'm sure they do well with it, but it tastes like a premade crust. The first 2 times I went to BnR the food was excellent. Service was exceptional. We went back last night expecting the same great food and service. And we're hugely disappointed to say the least. The fries were so dry and dehydrated feeling. Possibly like they had been sitting under a lamp. Not fresh like they have been in the past. The burger was so salty. I used a napkin and wiped off most of the season on the outside as it was just so overpowering. And the patty was so thin, their menu says fresh never frozen. Underneath the sea of smoke, from countless burning Doral Light 100's, and behind the eyes of the charming, unaffected 20 somethings that run the machinery of this bar, rests a true archetype of what it means to grow up in Mabank, Texas. Indeed, I recall leaving Senior Assembly at Mabank High School in 2004, when this was the Pit Grill. Our class song was The River by Garth Brooks, and it was cued up on the Jukebox when we arrived. The floorplan is the same as the old cafe, but the environment is quite different. Since the switch over, I have stepped in 4 times. On this Saturday, at 5PM, it was inhabited by many senior citizens, holding a beer and a smoke, as well as families in the dining room. If you are passing through, seeking some eats after a day on Cedar Creek Lake, you will find an expansive menu, with everything from pizza to burgers to wings and salads. It is a long 2 page menu, likely to have something that calls your name. The full bar is expansive, and could hold it's own against any Dallas joint - except they close at 10PM, and as I stated, allow smoking. They have a jukebox and pinball, a small bar and a patio. Plenty of TVs and parking out back. The exterior asthetic is handsome, welcoming. The interior is an embodiment of the city - rustic, but orderly. Dark, but appropriate. In Dallas, Fort Worth or Arlington this would likley be a Showdown Saloon, Ozzie Rabbit or Caves with better food. In Mabank, this is the only game in town, and is quite a blessing to have. If you are flying by, sunburned and water winded from Cedar Creek Lake, or escaping the throngs of First Monday Trade Days - stop in and you won't likely regret it. Got off of 175 looking for somewhere to grab lunch and happened to find this little out of the way local restaurant. Not a lot to look at from outside, but surprisingly turned out to be a fortunate choice. Table had catfish , chicken, and double meat jalapeño burger. All were very good and service was excellent ! The double meat burger jalapeño burger was fabulous and was a beast ! It was huge and tasty. Girls enjoyed the catfish and chicken was good as well.
