We were debating where to eat when we saw the location of this place and the decent reviews. We headed downtown and were surprised by what a very vibrant area it is. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. We popped in and were told it would be 20 mins for a table on the outdoor space overlooking the river but in less than three mins we were being seated. It is a great nice view down to the river. It appeared that there was only one waitress for the entire outdoor patio - she did a good job keeping up. I ordered a Colorado brewed Kolsch beer - very good. I ordered the Yardbird chicken sandwich (fried) with Buffalo wing sauce and a side salad. Both were very good. My date ordered the salmon salad - the salmon was nicely prepared and not overcooked. The prices were typical. Sure glad we got a table right on the edge because that really made this a memorable dining experience. read more

Every time we're in the area, we HAVE to go to the Boathouse. Right along the Arkansas River, this place has a front row seat to watching folks tube or kayak on down the river. It's got that cool breeze coming off of the river and is just the perfect place to saddle up for lunch or dinner. The Boathouse has a big eating area with HUGE windows that open, so you basically feel like you're sitting outside. They did a massive expansion last year - which reflects just how popular this spot it. The food is pretty darn good. Is it going to knock your socks off and make you write a letter to your mama? No. But add a pint of beer to lunch and you're in pretty good shape for a great meal by the water. There's just something about the Boathouse that a person can't capture in a review - maybe the best way to put it is my whole family could go and just sit and stare at the water and eat and laugh and feel like we had a wonderful afternoon. Riverfront eatery with great food. Thanks to the beautiful Salida weather in the summer, even eating inside we were treated to the wall of windows being opened and a breeze throughout the restaurant. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She offered food suggestions and was knowledgeable regarding food allergy information. The stuffed mushrooms had a delicious cream cheese and bacon filling. Ask to sit out on the patio looking over the Arkansas River. We hung out in the park across the street and they texted when our table was ready. We grabbed a beer next door, which you can bring into the restaurant if you're not done by the time your table is ready. We ordered the jalapeño poppers -- they were amazing. The pineapple dipping sauce was perfect. I had a "horny grandma" (pictured) and my husband had a Koltsch of some type. The entire menu looked good but we each ordered tacos. He had chipotle chicken and I had carnitas. I am taking one star off because I asked for corn tortillas and they came out in flour. The server said she'd get them fixed but they literally just rolled the contents of my taco into a new shell. I knew because I scraped the guacamole off of one and when they came back one had no guacamole and the other two the guacamole was on the bottom instead of the top now. Loved the Boathouse. It has a fantastic location on the river (big windows so you can sit inside in the winter and look out at the river or patio in the summer). Big place with a menu of both burgers and mexican. I went for a carnitas burrito and a couple craft brews. The carnitas were perfectly seasoned as were their chili beans. Loved the atmosphere, food and vibe. We went during COVID, so they were following COVID protocols (mask, sanitizer on the table, etc..). It was a great experience. We will be back! read more

Best restaurant on the Arkansas River for a view! We stopped at the Boathouse for lunch and to watch the water and boaters. Service was friendly and for the amount of patrons it was pretty quick. I got a Bourbon cocktail which was good and reasonably priced. The chicken sandwich was hot and flavorful but a bit greasy. Sweet potato fries were just warm but tasty. Food is absolutely terrible. First off after waiting at least 10 minutes to be sat while numerous employees walked by us I had to ask if it's self seating before being given a table. If this place was busy I'd understand but it was midday and we weren't even acknowledged. Second the food was disgusting. The fried mushroom appetizer had absolutely not taste or seasoning. The jalepeno poppers were the same with zero seasoning or taste. We got the shrimp tacos and again no flavor. Also got the blackened trout which should have just been called grilled trout because again it lacked the Cajun seasoning that blackened trout should have. Very disappointed in this place as we drove 3 hours and got a disgusting meal. Our server was the only enjoyable part of this entire experience. Great food at a killer location makes this restaurant a must-visit when visiting Salida. We were fortunate to get a table outside with the sounds of the river rushing beside us. The wait staff, even though understaffed, served us quick and with accuracy and friendliness. To start we recommend the fried brussel sprouts with nuts and any of their salads. The salads are large enough to have as an appetizer for the whole table! The fish tacos and huge shrimp were very tasty and filling and the steak is really done well. Not Good. Long wait on a Tuesday at 5:30PM, only be seated in the bar which said it was open FCFS seating. Then lots of mistakes with drink deliveries, charging for things we didn't get, and not bringing us what we ordered. Drinks were not good, we tried a couple margaritas and an Old Fashioned. Food took SO LONG and once it came it was just bad. Corn taco shells were either stale or left under a heat lap so long they were inedible (literally couldn't chew threw them).
