Update: Beware of both Cobalt boats and this dealership!! They were all too happy to take my order and money but on delivery of the boat (2020- $80,00 boat) it was scratched. Dan Brant (salesman) did stop by after delivering a neighbor's boat in order to address the scratches- sadly he was not able to get them out. The keys to the glove box were missing, the navigation lights and anchor light were incorrectly wired, and half of the coast guard package was missing. Adam Pensel (general manager of Boats By George) blamed COVID for these problems however, there was a ~5K prep charge on this boat! This was only the start of the issues w/the boat as the boat had an electrical problem which made the boat unusable and ended our boating season early.
When we brought the boat back to Boats by George the issues were: 1) scratches to outside paint from time of delivery. 2) Incorrectly wired lights (both nav and mooring lights. 3) A short/battery issue in the electrical system-battery was fully discharged in ~ 7 days (nothing was left on). 4) We still had not received the missing items from our paid for coast guard package (throwable & paddle) 5) Glove compartment lock was missing the key and the handle to the glove compartment was broken 6) The 1st time the filler cushion was used (which has 3 slide bolts to hold it in place) the plastic on the hull cracked in two places at the site of the slide bolts 7) To add insult to injury, after dropping the boat back to the dealer (after hours), I was contacted and asked if wanted the crack/chips in the swim platform to be repaired, to which I replied there were none when I dropped it off. Dek Esser (service manager) assured me that they would not damage a boat without letting the customer know and he denied that they had caused the damage to the swim platform. Luckily, we had taken pictures of the boat (undamaged) sitting on their property when we dropped it off because we have had so many problems with them. Boats by George then agreed to fix the platform at no cost (thankfully I had those photos, hint hint if you have them do work). Adam did agree to comp a $300.00 service to compensate for the issues, I said that given all the issues they should also cover the winterization, which Adam declined. Adam suggested that I contact Cobalt and ask for compensation. When I asked Adam Pensel if he had any issue with me posting this review to google, he said "nope". That alone speaks volumes about their business!
You have many other choices for both boats and dealerships!! If you read my other reviews you will see that I am usually very positive, but in this case, I believe boaters need to be warned. I am happy to provide pictures and documentation for all of the above, just PM me. I've been a boater from more than 40 years and have owned boats most of that time and I've never had a boat or dealership with so many problems in such a short period of time! read more
