This restaurant was recommended by the lady who owned the air bnb we stayed at. It was very quick to get to from our air bnb. The establishment is very well kept and has a nice home feeling to it. All of the workers had fantastic attitudes and were very nice. I had the Chorizo skillet and it was fantastic. I really enjoyed the meal. I also ordered a cinnamon roll for our table to share and OMG, it was soooo good. Definitely try it. Very tasty and the seasoning was on point. It came with pancakes. Our server, Isaiah, was attentive and kind. When asked what he suggested, he offered several options. Took our order and brought us drinks. Food was served quickly, and it was hot. The portion sizes are large, and the flavors were perfectly matched. I'm very disheartened by the deceitfulness of my host. I frequent this location, and ordered Togo today. I paid with my card and always get my card and a receipt to TIP on. Instead the young lady asked did I even want a receipt. I said yes how else I can tip. After looking at my receipt she had already tipped herself and said gratuity is included even though I always write my own tip in. I informed her she would have got a better tip if she let me write her a tip instead of just deciding to do it. This location is out of my way to come to. Came here because we're staying at the Illinois Beach Hotel and didn't want their breakfast. It was all good. I had the "health plate". Not because I wanted to be healthy. It just had everything I wanted that day. Cottage cheese, English muffin, 2 poached eggs and some fruit. Perfect and not heavy. Hubby had the special #3. It does not come with hash browns AND French toast. It's either or. His eggs were perfectly done and not greasy. Nothing had that icky greasy feeling. Just really good solid breakfast. The link sausage, though is not a tiny link. It comes with 2,if you order a side of it, but they are like hot dog sized so it's like having 4 regular links. The flavor was good. No fennel, which I like. Oh...and they leave the coffee carafe on the table. That sold me right off the bat. Service was fast and good. Pur waitress was perfect. Usually top notch everything here. I don't know if there has been a change in wait staff or managers or what but this past weekend I was far from impressed like I normally am. The waitress cut me off in the middle of ordering my drinks (super strange and rude). The mini waffles were cold and so was the syrup(it's normally warm when they bring it to the table). Lastly the "fresh" fruit side was looking not good. It looked like it was set out way in advance and definitely not fresh because they prepared it WAY too soon. The Bloody Mary just had a lemon slice in it. Idk what's going on here but if this happens again I'll be very disappointed because it was one of my favorite spots and I'll never come back. Came here spontaneously with my wife after a failed attempt to go to the dmv that ended up being closed.. anyways. My wife was so excited to show me this place and so we went for breakfast. I ordered the steak skillet with over waste eggs and a side of red velvet pancakes and my wife ordered chicken fried steak and waffle and a side of eggs. The skillet was delicious, the cheese was melted nicely and the steak cooked perfectly. And the red velvet pancakes were so good, probably the best I've ever had. This used to be our favorite breakfast spot. We've noticed it going downhill for a while. Our last visit was the worst! Our server Gia was the worst server that we've ever had there....actually the worst that we've had anywhere for quite a while! Our food came out, incorrectly-I ordered all bacon- I got sausage, I ordered mini waffles- she never put the order in for them, I didn't get my juice, my husband's skillet had burnt hashbrowns in it. I repeated the request for extra napkins 4 times until I asked a bus boy to get them for us...which he did promptly but was at the very end of our meal. My husband had a Pepsi which never got refilled and neither of us had anything to drink. My food was fine but I remember when their eggs were SO GOOD! I even asked them how they made them and was told that they whip them (or maybe it was in the blender) but they were amazing! We were hoping that the cashier would ask us how our visit was but she didn't even look up, much less say anything or even thank us. We left with a bad taste in our mouths. Now they are just like everywhere else...except the worst service. What a shame! They were worth the drive for us but it's just not worth it anymore. Went there for breakfast I asked the waitress Sam wanted to confirm no cheese on my skillet. She said that I did not tell her. I asked her if they can make it without cheese. She said yes but it was just about done and they don't change orders. So I said I have to eat it when I can't have cheese being lactose intolerant? I apologize that I did not tell her. She said well it's a waste of food and she will have to ask if they can change it. She came back & said they are willing to change it but they normally do not change orders like this. I just went back to where she was and told her do me a favor don't make another one at that point I don't want it anymore. I can hear her yell and make it a big deal. What happened to customer service? At that point I lost my appetite. I then talked to her manager Kelly. She said they are not a franchise restaurant and is a family owned business so Sam the waitress was correct they don't like to waste food. They don't change or correct orders due to this. I asked wow what happened to customer service? She said that is there policy. I said that is crazy. So if you go to Emily's Restaurant on Sheridan Rd make sure you order correctly because they will not correct or change your order for you. There is no customer care or service there. A hometown favorite! Their service is so great, everyone is always friendly and on top of checking & double checking to make sure we have everything we need. The staff is always quick to get us a table even when it's packed. The food is so good, never had a bad meal! We went today for lunch and I had the Chipotle Chicken...ohhhh myyyy goodness! The chipotle chicken is not on the menu but if you ask for it they will make it for you. It is a huge portion so I always have some for the next day unless I am really hungry. The soup portion they give you is also very big & the soups are so delicious! My husband usually gets the Turkey Club and loves it. Nice modern American style restaurant. The staff was warm and welcoming. The layout was nicely spaced and not over crowded. The coffee was average to slightly above average. They dropped off a carafe and pre packed creamers at you table. Nothing special but it was ok. I split an omlet and an order of biscuits and gravy. The omelet was done perfectly, made to order fresh and it did take a few extra minutes but that was clearly denoted on the menu. The side of pancakes were on the right side of average. 2 medium cakes, the syrup was trash and there was no maple syrup upgrade option which seems like a big miss on the restaurant part. The biscuits and gravy were another story. I came here on their solid reviews. If you are and aficionado the is a hard pass. While they did come out with 3 full biscuit spit in half, that is where the similarities to this southern staple ends. The gravy was thick and whit, but had almost no sausage chunks in it. Unlike many bad biscuits and gravy in the Chicagoland area, this on was not tasteless. Sadly the only taste was salt. Then Moore salt, so much salt you could not pepper you way to any sort of balance. Prices were reasonable for the amount and quantity of the food. Service was very good. Let's start by saying that although they advertise freshly squeezed orange juice, it is not! Then the eggs were so gross. Literally tasted rotten. I cannot explain how bad the eggs tasted. I have enjoyed Emily's Pancake House in Beach Park for many years; it is always a good place to eat. Recently, the décor has been upgraded and the carpark widened; the interior colours of soft, pearl grey and warm, deep walnut are modern and soothing, with accents of white porcelain, and nickel silver. Emily's Pancake House offers home-made soups, usually two different kinds per day; they also bake (and sell) their own bread. The service is always friendly and attentive; the waitresses are helpful and don't 'hover', but also ensure your water glasses are filled and that there is plenty of coffee. The coffee is very good; I like it. NB I would prefer a small pitcher of fresh cream, with my coffee, but this is a personal comment, not a criticism. I recently lunched at Emily's Pancake House and ordered the (New England) clam chowder; it arrived hot and delicious, with plenty of diced potato, clam meat. It was thick, rich, and hearty. Oh, boy! I also ordered the turkey club, and it arrived on a pretty green plate with lots of fries. NB Emily's Pancake House uses pretty Fiestaware in pretty colours; it is very festive and friendly. I ordered the Avocado omelet with hash browns and pancakes- everything on the plates were very tasty but the pancakes really were the highlight; they were excellently cooked with a great texture and just a hint of malt flavor. Both the hostess and my waitress were friendly and gave just the right amount of attention without being too obtrusive. I appreciated that! The menu says to be patient when ordering an omelet as they take more time to cook because of their process. I'm not sure what they were talking about because my order was served in a flash- hardly any wait at all. The omelet was at the same time light in texture and juicy, how did they do that? Anyway, it was delicious. A (big) disappointment was the coffee which tasted somewhat like they had used an old gym sock rather than a coffee filter and threw in some cigarette butts along with the grounds. Total yuck! Good coffee can make or break a meal and unfortunately in this case they seem to have cheaped out and it cost them a star in my review. Easily a five star plus meal served with one star coffee. I went with Avocado Scramble and upped the ante (per Kelly's suggestion), subbed out pancake and put in the cinnamon roll french toast. Both the scramble and the french toast were super delicious. I absolutely love the spicy kick to the scramble. My friends got the meatlovers scramble and an omelet and we're pleased with theirs as well. Portions were ample - just what we've come to expect in a breakfast diner. Located on Sheridan Rd, it's only about a mile from Illinois Beach State Park, a fun stop before or after eating.
