Had a solid meal at Bob Evans. I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, corn, and a dinner roll. Everything was hot, fresh, and tasted good. Went to Indy for a business trip. Visited a friend while I was out there. Driving around, I saw Bob Evans! Here in Southern California we only have the refrigerated side dishes at the market. Was so pleased to find an actual restaurant!!! The banana bread as a side? Heck yes! Server is so helpful! She recommended items and is so informative. I told her I was visiting and she mentioned places to go visit! She also made the sweet tea and was interested to see if I liked it! But yes, of course! She also mentioned her mom is the one who cooked our food! Inside is so cute! At the front of the store, where the cash register is, there is also a whole little gift shop and baked goods yo take home! read more

NOTE: This review is based off my experience from always Uber Eating from here, so your experience dining in may differ from my experience always ordering delivery. I've always enjoyed ordering a weekend brunch from here once in a while, whether it's the country fried steak, or the double meat breakfast or whatever it's called. The food always tastes great, even when in takeout containers. The portions are huge, too - definitely worth the prices they're at, which by the way, I think they're reasonable compared to other places. May 2021 - My mother and me stopped here for a quick lunch and the restaurant was mostly empty. We had a 1/2 BLT sandwich and a cup of Vegetable Beef soup. Both were excellent. Normally this Bob Evan's is awesome. Tonight on a Saturday at 6pm, the place is dimly lit inside. Very few cars outside, a handful of tables have customers, yet they had us wait 10 minutes for a table because so many of the tables were not bused. It is kind of sad to see how poorly this Bob Evan's in Bloomington is being ran now. I hope our experience this evening is an exception and not the new norm. My guess is that it is the new norm. When we drove by Cracker Barrel, Outback, & Cheddars, their parking lots were totally full to overflowing. Not Bob Evan's, the parking lot was nearly empty. Of course that is a red flag but historically, this has been a good Bob Evan's so we gave it a shot for dinner. read more

With places like Olive Garden, O'Charlie's, and others nearby, Bob Evans isn't always the first place I think of for a nice dinner. We do almost all of our dining by ordering in now. We recently ordered from Bob Evans for a meal pick up. It's hard to come up with anything negative. I mean, we've only ordered a couple of times, and it's been good every time. I think it may even be getting better. We ordered one of their big meals that included chicken strips, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, soup, and big yummy cookies. BIG yummy cookies! I think the girlfriend also ordered a potato soup she was very happy with. And rolls! They were very generous with the rolls. Chicken - Solid chicken strips with a little heavier breading than most. I think we didn't specify a dipping sauce, so they sent BBQ. The chicken gravy rocks on these things. Mashed potatoes - really good, and so is the gravy. One of the reasons we stopped ordering from O'Charlie's is because they have weird bits in their mashed potatoes that I think are supposed to be bacon. They just look icky. Mac & Cheese - Nothing special, but better than other places around. Add some pepper for a little kick! Cookies! Did I mention the cookies? Yum! The portions were plentiful. I wouldn't have minded an extra couple of strips of chicken, but I'm not complaining, considering that two adults and a toddler got two full meals plus some extra leftovers out of it. To top it off, I got there early after giving up on another task. I called in, let them know I was early, and was told the food was packed and ready to go! They did an excellent job stacking it all in the bag. All in all, it's good solid food. It's not gonna blow your taste buds away, but it's prepared well and the portions are generous. We were in town for a funeral, and decided to get some breakfast. Unfortunately we never got seated. We were the first family in and given a 15-20 wait time and 5 other families were seated before us after an hour of waiting. Still nothing, decided to ask what's going on. The big table that should have been bussed was never bussed after the hostess asked the manager 3 times to bus it. Confronted the manager "K" or Kristie and she was rude. Our family has all been in the restaurant business and we know how it a restaurant should work. Save your time DONT go here, there's a reason it has 2 1/2 stars folks. You'll just leave disappointed. (This may be due to the fact we went on the Sunday morning of day-light savings weekend... everyone was at home missing that lost hour.) SERVICE When we entered the restaurant, the hostess did not greet us and just started walking with two menus in her hands. It was super awkward... at first we had no idea whether or not to follow her. She eventually turned around and looked at us and motioned at us to follow her. No smile, words, or anything. Our waitress was very nice, but didn't come back to our table after we received our food except to give us our check. It took her at least 5 minutes to come take our order after we had initially sat down and given her our drink order. The employee at check-out was not very friendly. We were not asked how anything was. Actually, she didn't say anything just like the hostess. FOOD I had the Cinnamon Supreme Hotcakes and they may one of the best things I've ever had at a Bob Evans. They were not overly sweet, which I appreciated. They are served with maple syrup, but it's not needed. I had ordered a side of sausage with these pancakes and they were severely burnt. I was surprised they served these to me. Those tasted as what you would expect burnt sausage to taste like. My husband had the Chicken and Waffles and said they were amazing. He reported he would get them every time he goes to a Bob Evans as long as they choose to permanently add them to their menu. Overall, the food was very good, sans sausage. Ordered the Brioche French Toast and a side of scrambled eggs. Everything was tasty, although some seasonal fruit on the toast would've been nice. I also had orange juice; good blend, although I'm not a fan of drinking from a pint jar. The restaurant was pleasantly peaceful at 10:15 in the morning and my waitress was friendly. However, after delivering my food, she didn't return to my table until I was finished. Had to ask for a water, which would have been nice to have had earlier and not at the same time I received the bill. Meal was slightly more than I expected at $11.64 + $3.00 tip, but it was a nice alternative to fast food. read more

I live close to this so-called restaurant. EACH time I try and dine here, the lack of effort by most staffers blows me away. Today was another, shining example of how NOT to manage a restaurant. I will explain. Upon arriving about 2:00 pm, there was no one in line, and no hostess to seat us. A young lady working as the cashier managed to check out about three customers and when finished, stepped back to "chat" with two other employees behind the counter, ignoring us altogether. A second couple came in behind us and noticed the lack of attention and suggested we seat ourselves. I agreed, and my wife and I found a clean booth in the half filled restaurant. Waiting again, a waitress flew by to drop off two menu's and disappeared. No silverware, no drink order. Nothing. We waited again. Nothing. Deciding to go to Cracker Barrel instead, we got up to leave. I stopped at the register to ask the lazy cashier to see the manager while the waitress that dropped off the menu was standing off to the side chatting with another staff member and could hear my request. She quickly blurted out, " I was coming right over". She returned to continue her conversation with the employee. Sure she was. When the manager came to see me, I explained that once again the crap service at this hole has not improved over time despite several complaints. I promised a negative YELP review today. I am keeping my promise. She said a meeting with a regional supervisor was that same afternoon to address these very issues. My guess is they will do nothing, as they always do. This is a culture of incompetence that can only change by removing the lazy elements that management cannot seem to motivate or possibly identify. Management must ALL be replaced as well. I would love to own this franchise location, I would fire the whole damned lot, save the kitchen staff and start from scratch. Bob Evans is rolling over in his grave. read more

At first I thought that previous reviews of two stars might have been harsh. They were correct. If I'd checked reviews before taking my wife here we would've chosen some other place to eat. We both got the pot roast dinner. We've eaten at many Bob Evans restaurants in the past so we know what to expect. This was the smallest portion of food I've ever been served. It was about half the amount you'd expect on a kids meal. In this case we didn't say anything until we checked out because we didn't want any "surprises" from the kitchen. Our server never asked how things were after our food was brought. When I checked out and paid, the cashier never asked how things were. So I told her. But that was indicative of the overall attitude. What little pot roast we did get tasted good. And a nearby patron gave us a coupon. Those were good points. We won't return. read more

I haven't been in Bob Evans in years; I didn't even know they remodeled the inside. It looks really nice now. They're menu is a little different than what I remember too. I like that they have breakfast all day because both of my parents ended up getting omelets. I don't remember them having fried chicken, but they do now. All of their dishes come with a ton of food for a fair price. The omelets came with a side and choice of bread. My fried chicken came with 2 sides and a choice of bread. Really like this Bob Evans. This one is located near the Indiana University campus and as such gets lots of parents and students for breakfast on the weekends...in fact, if you come on a weekend be prepared to wait...but the wait is worth it. This particular Bob Evans has a nice cadre of employees who produce great service with a smile. Let's face it you are here for breakfast, and breakfast is not the most creative meal of the day...eggs, bacon/sausage, pancakes, hash browns...etc. - this is not brain surgery. What sets this Bob Evans apart is the good food, served hot, and nice customer service. Just about whatever you ask for you can get...they are very flexible. We usually end up here around 11 am for breakfast on Sundays and generally add a to-go order of their fried chicken...no problem. They will whip it up and have it ready when you leave...that is an example of flexible. We can't comment on dinner and lunch here...just the fab breakfast offerings. I am not a shot order cook but I know that hash browns should be brown not white (heated frozen potatoes) the biscuits were good and the eggs were not runny so those were good just took to long for the hash browns to be not brown. read more

So disappointed in my Christmas family feast meal. Food was not cold packed as stated and curbside delivery didn't happen. No heating directions came with meal but I was able to google that part. Pumpkin pie had not been baked and turned out just awful. Green beans had no flavor but the mashed potatoes and gravy were great! Everything else was pretty bland but for $150.00 none of us were impressed. Oh yes, the apple pie was yummy. Never again! Kroger would probably have been just as good. I had a breakfast meal, and every individual component tasted like it had been around forever, and came in a bag. Don't they cook anything any more? And how hard is it to cook an egg? The bad reviews of this place surprise me. I thought it was totally decent, basic breakfast food. The server was friendly and prompt with the coffee refills. I had scrambled eggs with potatoes and pumpkin bread. The eggs were basic scrambled, and the potatoes were your basic home fries. The pumpkin bread had lots of real pumpkin in it. It's not fancy, but not bad at all. Certainly better than the IHOPS and Denny's in my local Houston. read more

We stood at the hostess stand for ten minutes while an older woman manager with short spiky brown hair talked casually to an employee sitting at the breakfast bar while looking right at us. The only person who acknowledged us was busy ringing people up. At least six servers walked right past us obviously waiting to be seated. Once we finally got our food it was cold and one of our friends food wasn't ready because they miscounted the French toast. Horrible! 1/2 star if I could. Terrible - Bad - Disappointing. The meal took forever to get there - 35 minutes. The food was tepid at best. We had to get up to ask for more coffee and tea. Eggs Benedict served on a biscuit? Are you kidding me? We didn't order Hillbilly Benedict - wtf? Are you going to start serving scrambled eggs as sunny side up now? You don't get to call traditional foods whatever you want - if it's not going to be prepared in a traditional manner. Then the waitress whose personality was somewhere between a Zombie and a Doorknob (drug testing needed), spilled syrup all over my kid - her clothes, phone and key fob were all but ruined. Then with little in the way of an apology, she brings some paper napkins for us to clean up with - Hello? Syrup? - then she never comes back (except at the end). We tried to tough it out thinking our meal would be comp-ed at this point - - one person didn't get what they wanted, it took forever and now one of my kids is in tears and soaked with syrup. Any reputable restaurant would have ate the ticket. NOPE - the waitress brings the bill and has the nerve to ask my Daughter (who is drenched in syrup) if she's going to eat her meal. When I went to the manager to complain - I told her, "If I am paying for this meal, I'm not coming back." It was a last ditch effort to give them the opportunity to make things right. Cracker Barrel would have. But again, NOPE she took off the Faux Eggs Benedict and said with a shrug, "What do you want from me, I just work here." I wanted what everyone gets - a mediocre breakfast experience. I got worse. Bring a change of clothes with you to eat here, and leave any expectation of a pleasant meal behind. I only come here for breakfast and the food is always like you'd expect. Home-cooked taste, nothing fancy. The service has really gone down hill these last few years. We put our names in and waited, and when they called our name told us "nevermind" because we were 2 adults, 2 kids and not 4 adults. I've never experienced something like that before, so I was a little irritated. My husband asked what kind of coffee they have and the woman said regular or decaf. He asked if they had "fancy coffee" and she said no. They have cappuccinos, mocha, caramel mocha...then they brought it to us overflowing everywhere. I think I'll try somewhere else from now on. Okay, hold on to your forks folks. I'm 18, and I just dined at the Bob Evans in Bloomington, it was interesting. So first I went to the bathroom right when we got there (Paper towels? Wet, and on a tray - like thing).. but the waitress brought her one menue, so she asked for a second for the other member of her party (me). 30 actual seconds later, she comes back to the table and asks my mom if "we were still waiting on him to get here" she said " No, lol SHE is in the bathroom". This waitress was also as fake as you get. Incredibly annoying. Then we were watching this girl wearing a very short dress, who was obviously a worker, but was there as a patron. She leaned over the counter to get something on the other side, and we definitely saw her vagina. THEN she walks over to a food station and grabs a small bowl and tongs and starts filling the bowl up with different foods at the station ... did not wash her hands or have gloves on! We finally ordered. Our waitress comes back later to tell me that they are out of Ciabatta bread for my sandwich. She finally brings our food. Forgets my mashed potatoes. Then I realize that the sandwich did not have the Monterey Jack cheese on it. Had to send it back. It came back with the cheese melted, but the chicken a bit over done on the outside, and the fries that were on the plate were now cold. However I am giving this a 1 star because my mom's Mushroom Swiss was pretty good, and the Caramel Moca was very nice... relatively. There was a large crowd of staff standing behind the counter discussing where they could get paid more. The Assistant manager Karen Carr seated us finally with no apologies or smiles or remote friendliness. Our waitress was very pleasant and the food was good. However there was a dead bug in our coffee. Upon check out there was a long line of customers waiting to check out. There was only one cashier was clearly new and was repeatedly stumped.
