I paid approximately $150 just to have a technician come out and diagnose my Lennox central AC. The technician immediately told me my system was 12 years old, that it needed refrigerant, and began recommending replacing the entire system for around $20,000. What disappointed me was that no effort was made to diagnose the root cause of the problem. I was told the system needed refrigerant, but they couldn't even tell me how many pounds it would require until they started charging me. The quoted price was $500 for the first three pounds and $165 for every additional pound. I specifically asked whether they could check for a refrigerant leak or inspect common failure points such as valves, fittings, or other components before recommending a complete replacement. That diagnostic work was not offered. Refrigerant does not simply disappear from a sealed system. If it's low, there should be an effort to identify the cause instead of immediately recommending either adding refrigerant without locating the leak or replacing the entire system. I paid for a service call expecting a thorough diagnosis, not a sales presentation. I left feeling that the focus was on selling a new system rather than helping me understand what was actually wrong with my existing one. read more

They just installed a new hvac air conditioner in March of 2023. The hnician told me I have 5 year warrantee, same as the air condition company gives. Now o find out that the warrantee was only for a year! A $20,000 hvac with only a one year warrantee! They have a racket by charging you a yearly rate after the year for an extended warranty of $236. Not even BBB credited ! I should have checked before trusting them! They are such a ripoff and the person that answers the phones., Angela is very rude and aggressive! Technicians have been wonderful but have gotten the run around from the owner for days. Almost a week without air and my brand new air conditioner is completely broken. Refused to work on sunday because it was "warranty work". Have been left in the brutal heat for days and still waiting for my new unit to be replaced. When I google the price its was only $20. And they had the nerve to tell me that I got a good deal only because I had a service contract with them. Otherwise it would cost $375. WARNING LONG AND DETAILED REVIEW... sum it up expensive unwanted surprises Wow I don't remember how long ago I wrote a review but I just can't sit and let someone get taken advantage of like I did so customers please be aware... Before you call this company please shop around.. I was referred by a friend so thought I would be good in their hands. I made an appointment for a maintenance service and the cost is 160 automatically which seems reasonable. They come over and the technician or whatever you call them comes in takes a look says doesn't even look like you need anything done it looks fine. He pulls out an air filter and say this hasn't been changed in a long time so we tell him we didn't know we had to change it. He says I would change it for you but I don't have anymore which is OK its 20 bucks in home depot fine no worries. Then again says I dont know why you called everything is perfect. So we explain to him it stopped blowing cold air and figured we were out of freon because the last refill we had was 2 years ago. He goes to check and says I can see the freon is low if you want to refill it its going to run you 59$ per pound. So I tell him can he only put like 5 pounds because that was a high price. At this time hes in the back alone refilling the freon then comes back and says you may have a leak after putting about 7 pounds of freon in it. I then say why would you fill it all the way after I just asked if you can put a small amount. Wouldn't it have been smart to put a smaller amount and then check for any holes and leaks. He tells me it doesn't work like that fine.... He then shows me the hole and its huge and you can even hear it. I'm a homeowner who takes care of my stuff and I'm sure most of you guys know when you love your home you notice everything its like another sense. I'm telling you this guy either put that hole there or made that hole bigger. Now all of a sudden you can hear this hole and see freon coming out its huge... oh the best part my bill came out to 500$ and change..... so much for a pretty good looking unit.. then insist that I pay 4000$ to replace it and they can do it for me in 3 days... So he tells me its not an old unit and I probably have warranty so I call and I actually do have warranty in which the company says find any technician and they can install it for you. So of course I call them back saying good news I have warranty can you guys fix it for me ill pay for the labor... Can you guess what they told me ... !!!*Beware*!!! This company charged us over $220 for a part (thermocouple) that usually costs around $20. That's over 11,000% which is just ridiculous. On top of that they charged a diagnostic fee as well, ($130) which is understandable. They are taking advantage of older folks that don't know any better. We also called them up to ask about the invoice as to why it was that much for a part and they were just negligent about the situation. I don't recommend this company at all they are not honest and we will never use them again. read more

I just got off the phone with them to schedule my maintenance which came as a curtesy when you purchase a $15000 air-conditioning and heating unit in May of 2018 . Today I call and ask for my second service for the heating unit and they tell me that my service has expired . I explained that there was no reason to service the heating unit in October of 2018 because it had not been used yet considering it was just installed in may . The lady Joanne insisted that I decided not to service the brand new unit that was never used for heat and that is my problem . I'm leaving two stars because the technician was professional, polite, and did a clean job. I give the company "0" stars. I was charged $139 for a service call and $567 to replace a $110 circulator pump for a total of $704 for two hours work and $110 pump. That's a labor rate of $300/hr. I asked for a breakdown of parts and labor before I knew the retail price of the pump and I was told that information was not available. The $139 is not applied to the cost of the repair. If I can give a negative star to Bob Mims company, I would. The first time I called to schedule an appointment, I told my situation to the guy who answered the phone. I said I am a new customer and never work with them before, so I do not have an account. So he scheduled my appointment on a Friday. 2 days later when I called to see if they have earlier appointment, a lady picked up the call, and she said I do not have an account and she does not see I have an appointment. I told her again I am a new customer, then of course I do not have an account yet with them. After 10 minute talk, she finally put me in for a Thursday appointment. I am fine with it. Today when I called (and thank God that I called), the same lady picked up the call and she said she doesn't see I have an appointment, and I do not have an account. Lady, use your brain. How can someone never work with you have an account??? I am NEW!!! How many times I need to explain to you such a simple concept that even a 5 year old kid can understand??? At the end she said she can't find anyone for me for Thursday (which is supposed to be my appointment day) and I have to wait for another week. I am glad I called otherwise I would have to wait in the house and no one is going to show up. So I got off the phone. I will never work with such a company. I gave them two chances and they just messed them up. If they hire someone who can't even handle simple task like appointment scheduling, I really can't trust the technician they hire. I do not care how reasonable their price is. If I have to go through 5 phone calls and still can't get myself an appointment, I won't even care if they offer their service for free. I take it at face value - stupid thing to do when you live on Staten Island, Anyway as he is filling it I Google and find it selling on Amazon at about $10 per lb. Their price $160 for the first pound and $118 for each pound after that. So I tell the budding young Economist this his response is that you can't buy it without a license. So these absurd rates have nothing to do with the government but the reality of local certified groups like Mim controlling the supply. On 1/27/14 I called Bob Mims Heating and Air Conditioning regarding my heating unit. I explained to them that the furnace was making heat, it was just not blowing. The fan on the heating unit was not working. When the technician came he went down the basement and said that indeed it was the fan. He proceeded to get the part out of his truck, he went back down the basement and in fifteen minutes he was finished. I received a bill for $216.00 plus $75.00 Diagnostic Fee, a total of $290.00.(they added incorrectly) (Faulty blower Run Capacitor). I checked the part on line (15MFD - 5%) 370VAC 60/50HZ) it wholesales for around $9.00. I couldn't believe that Bob Mims overcharge by that much. The repair man was at my house for no more than 20 minutes. I called the manager at Bob Mims, Alan, and questioned this exorbitant charge. He went on to tell me that that was the charge, they have a high overhead and all that has to be figured into how they charge their customers. Needless to say, I will not be using Bob Mims Heating and Air Conditioning again! read more
