The pearls were cooked perfectly as well, they weren't hard or overcooked. Service: The man at the counter asked if I had been here before and I answered no. He let me know that if I ended up not liking my drink, they would fix it for me, and I appreciated that! Atmosphere: Quiet (came during late lunch on a weekday) and clean. They had games to play. Everything was laid out nicely. Menu was simple, not overly crowded with options. Wifi is free. Restrooms are located in the back. Boba Chef offers cold and hot milk teas, slushes, fruit teas, and cake! They also allow the customer to adjust the sugar level in their drinks, AND they also offer almond milk, soy milk, etc if you dont want the lactose free milk. A bunch of us came here on a Saturday evening. They were friendly and helpful with what to choose (since it was my first time). I ordered a coconut milk tea with tapioca pearls. Hubby ordered a taro milk tea with tapioca pearls. Both our drinks were delicious! Our group of 6 just sat at a large table and just enjoyed our drinks and hung out. I think it may have been the owner, but he came and offered us all some tea to take home since they were just going to throw it out the night. I took my sweetened oolong tea home and it was delicious the next morning. That was extremely generous and kind of them to do do that. Alright, so my wife, daughter and I were in need of a refreshing drink so we made a stop at Boba Chef. I ordered the Iced Thai Tea with boba, wife had the Avocado slushy, and my daughter ordered the Matcha Green Tea Slushy with Oreo topping. The Avocado slushy was a bit watered down, in my opinion it tasted like they didn't use the whole avocado. The thai tea was a bit weak as well, flavor wasn't all there. The savior for their 3 stars was the Matcha with Oreo topping. It was awesome!! The taste of the green tea blended well with the oreo sweetness. Don't doubt it till you try it people!! Not going to lie, my partner's been hyping this place up for several months now (we live in the DMV), and I definitely thought he was just exaggerating, since expectations for bubble tea in Virginia Beach are pretty low. But boy, I don't think I've ever been happier to have been so wrong. We got the taro milk tea and peach oolong tea- honestly I wished we ordered a couple more for the road. Both were just so outstanding- definitely some of the best bubble teas I've ever had, I'm SO sad that it's so far from my home.. There's just something about the slightly thicker texture and mouthfeel of the tea- it's still liquid, but it's got more body- I don't know what it is, but I'm smitten. The honey bubbles are perfectly bouncy and chewy without being too soft- comparable to the most consistent chain in my opinion- Kung Fu Tea. The tea- just out of this world. I, for one, really, really dislike- might even say hate- taro milk tea, but I kept going back for another sip (much to the annoyance of my partner). It tastes like real taro, not cloyingly sweet, and it's a must-try here. Even compared to Moge Tee, which also uses real taro in their drink- it tastes more refined and subtle, while still being positively taro. Their standard sugar level is 50% compared to most places, "not too sweet, pretty good" as my parents would say. We got the peach oolong tea at another 50% (so 25% sugar), which was perfect for me (I usually get 0 or 30% sugar). The taro was at 75% (so ~38%), and it was also very good (my partner usually gets this at 0% sweetness at KFT, for reference). I really can't recommend this place enough, it is absolutely worth going a bit out of the way for. Would I consider them boba chefs? Absolutely. read more

A true gem in Hampton Roads. I have been looking for a solid mom and pop boba joint and this is by far the best spot in the area. Coming from an area where boba shops are aplenty, I was getting tired of drinking at sub-par inconsistent chain shops. I've tried three different milk teas here, black and oolong milk tea, peach oolong, and regular oolong milk tea, all with boba & 70% sweetened. They were honestly all so perfect. Often times, the milk tea is watery but here, it was the perfect amount of tea to milk ratio. The boba was perfect every time with the perfect chewy consistency. I also love that this is a mom and pop shop, you really get the quality customer service that makes you feel welcomed and like family. I absolutely love this place and even though it's 40 minutes from where I live currently, it's 100% worth the drive. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to try Boba Chef! It's a cute little Boba shop off of Holland Road. They have a pretty large menu, but I'm pretty basic when it comes to boba, so I ordered the taro milk tea with the oolong as recommended by one of the owners. I absolutely loved it! It had the perfect amount of sweetness and the boba was super easy to chew. We also tried the leche flan, which was delicious and so creamy! Wow Earl. You care about your business, and it honestly shows in how your handle yourself, promoting your product, and just being super approachable and friendly. I'm not a fan of tapioca pearls, but he really just offered me to try the stuff. I enjoyed my sample, and I allowed him to add the topping in my beverage. The only reason I would omit it next time is because I'm lazy, and I just like to slurp down a drink without having to chew on anything. Nonetheless, the bubbles are freaking delicious. On my first visit, I simply went with a black milk tea. It's the most basic order, but much like how cheese or pepperoni pizza can be used to gauge a pizza joint- this is something that should be executed nicely if going to classify as a "boba spot." OH. This is REAL TEA. But do not be afraid to ask and confirm it's a tea drink- not a powdered sugary drink. It was made so freaking wonderfully, and I even forgot to order with the sugar cut in half the way I normally order it; however, it came out PERFECT. Nothing too sweet, but it wasn't bland or anything. My drink was amazing. On my 2nd visit, I immediately went for the cafe au lait. I've had a small cup of it as a sample, and it changed my life. It's one of my favorite drinks, but I've yet to explore more of the menu. The quality of service is superb, and it's hard to judge sweetness level and adjust because these drinks are no where near as intensely sweet as many boba spots in our area. The place is clean. Our order included milk teas: taro oolong, almond vanilla, chai, black jasmine green, and matcha green, all with tapioca pearls, and green teas: jasmine and mango, both with mango pops. We were advised not to reduce the sweetness because the standard sugar level is 50% lower than chain stores, and we thought the level was perfect! Just the right amount of sweetness. I am a tea connoisseur, so wasn't expecting the tea itself to be great, but I was impressed with the oolong, and my sister said her green tea was very good. All the girls really liked the drinks they chose. Staff was friendly and helpful. Twice we were told that if we didn't like a drink, they'd replace it with something else at no charge. Amazinggg new go to boba spot. Kung Fu Tea got moved so me and my boyfriend go to Boba Chef and their boba tea is soooo good. The boba isn't a weird grainy texture, it's perfectly chewy and the drinks are made like they're made with precision. Immaculate asf fr. Plus the workers are so nice and polite. My new go-to place for bubble tea! Today was my first visit at Boba Chef and I know for sure that I'm coming back again soon! They offer a variety of hot, iced, and slushed bubble teas. I tried their Tiramisu slush with pearls and Oreo cookies blended in and it was fantastic! They only have one size but it's bigger compared to most bubble tea places in the area and it was only $5.50! They also sell french macarons, which I think was a bit odd for a boba shop but they still tasted really good. They come in a cup which include 4 macarons and the best part is that they only cost $3 per cup! That's a steal since most french macarons in the area sell them by the piece for ~$2.50-$2.70. The staff were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made my experience there even better! read more

Today I decided to visit haven't been back in awhile . I ordered same usual taro slush . Got to see some cute faces as one of the workers had to hold her son as he is teething . She was quick and professional with my order . However , I only deduct 1 star because I don't like how one of the workers was handling her ... the one male employee making the drinks was Speaking to her roughly about orders and that shouldn't be done in i front of customers or at all really . I came in the other night, about 20 minutes before closing - so I could satisfy my late night boba craving! I've been so excited for this place to open because it's a couple blocks away from my house! The menu had a few options to choose from but I honestly didn't know what I was in the mood for. I ended up getting oolong milk tea with tapioca and lychee jelly! My drink was sooooo good. It wasn't too sweet or too bitter, it was the perfect combination! The reason i'm giving this two stars is because I ordered my boyfriend and his brother a taro milk tea with tapioca, and a thai iced tea with tapioca. Of course I hadn't tried them first, so when I got home I gave the boys their drinks. My boyfriends thai tea, was not sweet at all. It was as if no sugar was added to the drink. I'm not sure if it was suppose to be like that? If that's the case, next time i'll have to ask for sugar to be added. The taro milk tea I got my boyfriends brother, tasted like taro flavored water. I'm thinking they didn't add enough taro powder to the drink. I would like to give a better updated review in the near future. This place is new, and i'm sure there are still a lot of kinks to work out - so I won't lose hope just yet! Maybe in a month or so i'll come back to retry their taro and thai tea. First time here & we love it!! The guy was nice and welcoming and he let us tried the boba pearl sample. It tasted good and sweet, perfectly cooked!
