My favorite boba shop in the area! Their last day in VB is June 28th, so this review might not be helpful for long, but I wanted to leave it in case someone is looking back and wonders what this shop was like :) Why is it my favorite? 1. Their drinks are reasonably priced. The full price for an iced drink with boba (I believe it's 20oz, check the photos for reference) is under $7 including tax. Some shops in the area charge closer to $8 for their smallest size. 2. The owners are incredibly kind. They even have a policy where if you don't like the drink you ordered, you can choose a different one or they can remake it free of charge. 3. Their iced peach oolong milk tea is hands down my FAVORITE boba drink I have ever tried in the area, and it's not a drink I find at other boba shops! I also really love their ube oolong milk tea as a close second favorite. 4. They recently started making their own tapioca pearls from scratch. They don't use preformed ones, which makes the texture and freshness stand out more. And the way they cook and flavor it is perfect! After Sophia and I had lunch at GuangDong Taste last Sunday, we walked next door to this establishment for refreshments. We talked about going here last year, but they were closed on Saturdays (which changed recently). Given we both like boba tea, it seemed harmless to give them a try. There was a bit of a crowd inside when we entered. Families were seated with their kids during playtime. The staff did welcome us toward the counter to order. There are a few tables and the decor's pretty nice. Not a bad spot if you're on a lunch break during the day. For my order, I selected one of the specials on their order, an Ube Slush with tapioca pearls. Within minutes, the order was ready. It tasted well with the flavor of Ube coming through, but after a few sips it tasted very light. They did have the sugar intake at 50-60%, which was fine, but needed more Ube to taste a bit stronger. It was good enough however when I made the drive home. Not bad for our first time here. We'll be able to stop by the next time we're in the area :) read more

I've been to Boba Chef a couple of times and I would say it's a solid spot for boba! - Parking - Center lot. Plenty of parking. - Vibe - Modest surroundings. There are a few tables and both times I've visited, it's pretty quiet. - TLC - The service here is always nice and courteous. The service is very speedy. - Sips - Passion fruit green tea with mango popping boba - very fruity and refreshing. I always ask for 100% sweet, just like me LOL. And totally obsessed with the popping bobas! All in all, great place to grab a drink and I would think a great place to do some remote work because it's nice and quiet in there. I'm somewhat indifferent about this place. Located within close proximity to Guandong Taste, it's like the perfect after dinner treat. Parking is shared among the businesses in the area and normally isn't an issue to park within walking distance. Military discounts are offered on Wednesdays and they have a rewards program where you accrue points towards free drinks. The interior was in some disarray and cluttered. A few long hanging cobwebs and dust bunnies were present but not alarming. I asked for a slush to be half mango, half strawberry. What I got tasted like a strawberry milkshake and it lacked that "wow" when you go to a new place. I'm pretty confident that I won't go back because it took an unusually long time to make my order and I have had better slushes made the right way and tasted far better. Customer service was welcoming and genuine. The flow of customers can depend on the time of day. Surprisingly, this location is closed on Saturdays. For some businesses, this could be a peak business day but I'm sure they have their reasons. Not the worst experience but this location is far from me and I don't see myself going out of my way to get mediocre beverages. read more

My brother's best friend from Georgia came to town and the three of us and my brother's boo stopped by this boba shop that we happened to notice. They were out of a bunch of stuff, and there was a 10 minute wait for the tapioca boba. So we ended up ordering the drinks pictured: Iced chai, iced strawberry green tea, regular iced green tea, and mango green tea with assorted boba types. His friend ended up waiting the 10 minutes for the tapioca as it was favorite. The milk teas ended up tasting kind of bland and watered down, despite the ice not being melted or anything yet. Mine was average, and they were okay with what they got as well. Nothing stood out very much and I think the staff's children were all there at the restaurant as the staff worked. Either that or some parents just left their kids to scream in the lobby. We ended up leaving as the ambiance wasn't really pleasant. It was really noisy and not comfortable. I probably will go out of my way to go to a Kung Fu Tea or other tea shop next time, which are more inviting and comfy to chill at. Not the best, not the worst! read more

The cutest lids. I'm wild over the look. I usually get fruit teas when I come but I'm trying to work my way through the menu. So after trying more I may pop my stars up to a 5. They only make their sweetness low. I love this. The Peach didn't taste like peach. The peach popping bubbles had the peach flavor. Just wish the peach fruit tea tasted like peach. All of the other drinks I have gotten are fine. Just some of the flavors seem a little light. I recommend getting the flavor popping bubbles they seem to boost the flavor. read more

I hear so many good things about this boba spot on social media so I decided to give it a try. This location is closer than my other go to spots so that's a plus. I ordered my typical wintermelon milk tea with bubbles and I got it hot since is was a rainy day. I got my order and it was in a coffee cup with a coffee lid. Uhhh how can I drink this without having to take the lid off? That was inconvenient because I had to drive as well so I took a sip before driving off and had to take my straw in and out so I can put the lid back on. Other locations have a hot boba cup with a proper lid that will hold the fat straw for the bubbles. The drink was okay to me. I always order the same when comparing boba so I can get a true comparison. The pearls were good - soft and chewy but the flavor of my drink was off and I wasn't sure why. In comparison to other boba spots in the area my number one still remains but I won't mention it here and sway ones decision. Staff here was friendly and prompt. Alright- first I'll get it out of the way. Once I visited Boba Chef and I was so disappointed I didn't think I'd return. But I did and I'm thankful I did! It hasn't always been five-star amazing, but that one time was definitely a fluke. Overall Boba Chef is a solid locally-owned spot. This is the second time i've been here, and to say that i'm in love is an understatement! The owner is as nice as I used to remember. I ordered a wintermelon jasmine milk tea with coffee jelly, it was SOOOO good! The last time I was here must be about 2 years ago, I came by before opening time and the owner said something along the line of "Oh, we're not open yet, so it's on the house." But being me, I offered to pay for my drink, since it doesn't sit right with me that he offered it for free. But it's the simple act like that that makes me love this place. These boba shops are popping up everywhere!! So of course here I go wanting to try them all out and comparing it to my Fav boba shop. For those who does not know where the Guangdong Taste restaurant is like me, the shop Is located in the Auburn Place Shopping strip. The restaurant was clean, plenty of space to hang out, and board games to stay a while. At the time there wasn't any music playing so it was pretty quiet inside. So for the drinks... they had some interesting drinks that I will try out the next time but my go to drink in trying any new milk tea for the first time is the coconut milk tea. There is only one drink size, which for me sucks because I don't want to always drink a large. With the Coconut Milk Tea I ordered, there wasn't any option to change the sugar level, even though their menu board said they can. The lady at the counter wasn't much help because all she kept saying was "we can make a new drink if you don't like it". Well that's cool, but if I can get my drink right the first time, no need for a redo. My coconut milk tea actually tasted like chocolate milk tea... hmmm maybe my drink was mixed with another flavor by accident? What I do love about this boba shop is their milk tea is made with Lactaid Lactose Free milk!! This is a total winner for me! There's no use of the powder stuff and it's healthier! Is their boba tea perfect? No, because I really do prefer bigger boba and ones that are cooked more so they have a nicer, different kind of chewiness. But in all other respects, this place is a standout that would keep me going back....if only we lived closer by. We're something of boba tea connoisseurs, and have particular standards and expectations. Here's what we really like: 1) Their classic teas seem to me brewed with care, and there's not a hint of bitterness. 2) Earl took the time to say hello and asked about our experience, and he seems to genuinely care. Finally got the chance to try this place out! I got the cookies and creme slush (oreo) with boba and my boyfriend got a thai tea with boba. They don't seem to have different sizes, however, the regular size is equivalent to most large drinks at boba spots! Most drinks are $3.95 and toppings are $0.50. We really enjoyed our drinks and thought that the boba was perfect! They were perfectly cooked throughout and the right amount of flavor/sweetness. The oreo slushie was blended to perfection and had a nice milkshake-like taste. Their thai tea was a little on the "light" side when it came to flavor. It was a little bitter, however, it is just my preference to have my tea with more cream - the way authentic thai tea comes with condensed milk. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it the way they serve it, as it wasn't overly sweet and still had that freshly brewed taste :) I would definitely return to try their other flavors and drinks! My sister and I were really intrigued with their Thai tea fusions so we order both. I love Thai tea and I love taro, so why not combine them? Genius idea! It's not the best tea I had but it's like 3.8/5 (I'm kinda picky so I think other people will find them good). The bubbles has an interesting taste to me but it's not bad, idk why I think it taste like watermelon but my friend didn't think that way lol. The lady who served us was very nice, we had a little chat and found out that her husband and her opened this place, and her kids are sitting on a table doing theur thing quietly. REAL TALK: I wanted to try out Boba Chef because I thought the name was so cute! Unfortunately, when we were last in town, this place was closed on a Sunday, so I made a mental note to check it out the next time we were in the area. Their menu includes various iced milk tea, classic teas, specialty drinks (such as Taro Thai Tea, Matcha Thai Tea, Matcha Milk, etc.), slushes, hot tea, and coffee. We ordered a Matcha Milk Tea and a Peach Oolong Milk Tea - I usually get my drinks with no boba, as usually they're overcooked, undercooked, or just way too hard from sitting around. It was highly recommended to try theirs, as it was mentioned that those who usually don't go for boba end up liking Boba Chef's - they were right! The boba was cooked PERFECTLY, having the slight chew but the right amount of softness; it also tasted like it was made-to-order and was very fresh! The drinks were a bit disappointing, as they both tasted watered down. I appreciated that they use lactose-free milk, but not sure if it was an off day or if I didn't order the right drinks? I haven't even received my drink yet and I'm in love! The atmosphere is excellent. When I walked in, the gentleman asked me was it my first time, which it was. He suggested some popular drinks and was so kind to tell me that if I didn't like the drink I picked, they would make me another for free. The two employees I talked to even held a nice conversation with me and that means a lot. You can definitely tell they are happy to be working there and they genuinely have the customers best interest. Getting to the good stuff, the drink! I ordered the Thai Tea with Tapioca Pearls and Lychee Jelly, and the Iced Mango Green Tea with Lychee and Passionfruit Jelly. The Bomb! The drinks were both so good and there was no oversweetness. Loved Boba Chef when we came to Norfolk. I'm typically not a fan of taro milk tea, but Boba Chef changed my mind! The taro flavor was very nice. The teas are strong and flavorful, but not too harsh. Very cute and modern little shop serving up fresh & delicious boba! We'd been meaning to try to place out because we are boba fans of course, and just recently had the chance to. The place isn't huge but there is plenty of seating. Great place to hang out and cool off with a yummy drink. Like all boba and tea joints, they have fruity teas, milk teas, slushes, and the usual toppings. The prices aren't bad. $4-5ish and you get the large! (No size options.) The worker that helped us was super friendly. Great customer service. I was just going to get the regular Iced Thai Tea with boba but went with the Thai Tea II, which is the "creamier and stronger" version. Deeelish. It wasn't as sweet as most Thai Tea drinks, which is good because I def consume enough sweets. Hubby got the iced Kona Coffee with boba. It was a little lighter than he expected it to be but he enjoyed his drink as well. I would definitely return; can't wait to try the other drinks. P.S. I think this boba location is the best around, in my opinion. They're always so welcoming. The owners, Earl and his wife Cherry really take pride in their product and they're super friendly! Every time i get a drink, they always assure me that if it's not to my liking, that they'll remake it for free. I've never had an issue but it's awesome of them to offer! Like other locations, they use lactose free milk, but this is the only boba place around the area that makes a delicious Avocado slush and if you love avocados, you must try it! I love getting the Thai Tea II milk tea because they make it stronger and creamier. Another go-to flavor of mine is the Wintermelon black milk tea. I feel as though it's a very underrated flavor and more people should give it a shot! Thanks to Earl, Cherry and Kenji for making my visit worth while. It was my first visit, that made it a memorable one to remember. They are in a convenient spot near the Guangdong restaurant. The decor is simple yet with a touch of modern. I like the purple and black paint they use. It's eye catching. The menu is on a flatscreen conveniently located for everyone to see. I stopped on by to see the rotating cakes near the register. I could not pass on trying the chocolate and red velvet cake to enjoy to pair with my tea. Kenji who was on the register is a funny guy, originally from Japan. His relationship with the owners are entertaining and our conversation on a first time basis made me feel welcomed and entertained. He placed my order of the oolong milk tea without any hesitation. I felt like family the moment I got to meet the owners Earl and Cherry. Earl made sure my boba was made to perfection. I originally ordered to skip on the boba and add the lychee jelly. but he promised me to try it free on the house with my drink. I was so pleased by his kind gesture. I was surprised of how sweet and soft the tapioca pearl was. The owner hooked me up and he informed me that if ever my drink was not made the way I like it or if I wasn't so pleased by its flavor; they would be happy to remake it for me. That was nice to know. You can customize the sugar level of your drinks and the milk is lactose free. What I enjoyed the most is the fact that their drinks are powdered free! I can decipher the difference and I am so happy I'm not getting the overly sweet powdered junk. I have been wanting to come back as often as possible as long as I'm on that neck of the woods. Service is great. Very helpful and friendly. My kids and I love boba but they also have other yummy offerings to suck up through the jumbo straws. It's $0.50 for each so you can add to your hearts content. We got the taro with boba-no tea and green tea mango(I think as my son ordered his special) with boba and lychee pieces(?) prices are decent and the plastic lid covers are super cute. Located right next to Guangdong Taste, it's in a prime location next to a Chinese restaurant. We have tried to go here on several occasions and they have never been opened so we got lucky when we went a couple of weeks ago. The inside is pretty plain and there's not too much going on as compared to KFT. There's seating/tables for about 20 or so people. I ordered the Thai Tea with boba and there was only one cup size (I think it was either a 16oz or 20 oz cup). I wished there was an option for a smaller size in case we wanted a smaller portion. The thai tea had a good tea flavor but wasn't creamy enough for me and didn't have a distinct "thai tea" flavor. The boba was good. I think the next time I come i'll try another flavor but KFT has my heart when it comes to bubble tea. read more
