Super small boba shop off of W 19th St coming from the ever-busy 55 Freeway/Newport Blvd. It looked like there was very minimal parking available in the shared lot behind the building, but we just walked over from where we got lunch a couple of blocks away. I think this Bobapop only recently opened, and it was evident from how quickly the two workers were doing everything. However, they were patient when taking our orders. They also graciously accomodated my request to correct one of my drinks, which was supposed to be full-sweet Flower Green Milk Tea that tasted unsweetened. After I got my fixed-up drink, I was happy with how satisfying the lightness of the green tea with creamer was on a hot day. My other drink was a Sea Salt Vietnamese Coffee, and I was slightly disappointed in this one. Main reason why was because the sea salt topping was too salty and overpowered the coffee, which surprisingly wasn't that sweet for a Viet coffee. After swirling the creamy sea salt foam into the drink, it still tasted a bit too "cheesy," so I added some whole milk at home to offset the tartness. About three tiny tables and one bench were available for indoor seating, with no visible outdoor seating. Due to this location's limited seating and compact size, it didn't really feel welcoming for studying, working, or hanging out. It seemed more like a grab-and-go place. I'll give them credit for running the shop with great effort during their first few months of opening, but I believe the consistency of flavors and drink-making could be improved. read more

Each of their drinks are meticulously crafted from high quality ingredients, freshly brewed teas, and boba that is cooked to chewy perfection. Their drinks are a bit on the sweeter side, but they're definitely customizable, and I would recommend bumping down to at least 50% if you're a "not too sweet" person like me. The wait times were also a bit longer than I expected, but it's definitely worth for the high quality and meticulous preparation of their drinks, and completely understandable considering how new they are. We walked over, but if you are driving down, they have parking in the back of the store. The store oozed with cuteness and service was friendly and welcoming. They had a really extensive menu to order from. My friend ordered a medium Taro Milk Tea with Boba ($6) and I ordered a large Japanese Brown Rice Milk Tea with Egg Pudding ($6.25). The drinks were made fairly quickly. My friend observed that her drink was very milky but the tea essence was less apparent. I agree with the assessment, but I really liked the unique taste of the Japanese brown rice milk tea. The egg pudding was a nice addition. Definitely a great spot for boba if I'm already in the area, but I wouldn't exactly drive out of my way for it due to the congestion driving to the area. My siblings and I tried the new Costa Mesa location of Bobapop and really liked the drinks here. We ordered the Japanese Brown Rice Milk Tea, Mango Green Tea, 3Q and Strawberry Black Tea. All the drinks were good with my personal favorite being the Japanese Brown Rice Milk Tea. The drink is a little weaker than I typically prefer but had a nice complexity to it that made it really good. Definitely would recommend to anyone who likes green tea or drinks on the less sweet side. The boba texture was good - slightly on the squishier side even though we waited about 30 minutes after receiving the drinks to actually drink them. Parking isn't the greatest as it's located right across from the Triangle but wasn't an issue when we went around noon. read more

A solid 4 stars. This boba shop has some unique offerings that we went for including the Japanese Rice Milk Tea and Strawberry Slush with Lychee Jelly topped with ice cream. Both are on their top 12 drink list and did not disappoint. Although not our ultimate favorite, they still left us satisfied with our random visit based on our fellow Yelp reviewers. Service was friendly and they patiently allowed me to sample their teas granted there were no other customers on an early Friday evening. The place is newer and was clean and bright. The location is a bit strange on a very small corner strip mall where parking is in the back and you maybenter from either the back lot or front door facing the main street. Visited this spot during their grand opening. Staff were super friendly, welcoming, and patient- considering we didn't know what to order . Inside is cute with a few seating spots. Parking is in the back of the store and very easy to navigate. They had so many options, it was hard to narrow it down to which one I wanted to try! I ended up trying the lychee oolong and it was super good/refreshing!! Quality tea taste with little lychee fruit bits. I am sad to not give this place a higher rating. The staff is so nice and their prices are great. But I've now tried 3 of their drinks and each time, it tastes watered down. I always try a regular/signature milk tea to see how it compares and I always order half sweet. Sadly, the tea was watery both times I ordered it. But their 3Q version comes with boba, pudding, and grass jelly for the same price as just the milk tea which is an amazing deal because other places always charge extra. I also tried the jasmine milk tea. The tea was a nice strong flavor but it also tasted watered down. So while their prices are good and staff is kind, I don't think I will come back again soon. I got both the Matcha oolong tea and Japanese brown rice milk tea. The drinks are good, but I wish the Japanese brown rice milk tea had a stronger flavor. It's rather subtle. I didn't get any boba so I can't speak on that, but I did get coconut jelly. They were cut a little too big for the straws there. We struggled a little getting them through the straws. I got our drinks 30% sweet which was enough. I wouldn't go higher than that for those that don't love "sweet" drinks. But the staff was attentive and the drinks came out quickly. They also offered me a punch card later on. I'm not sure I would come back again, but that's only because there are so many other great boba places around me in OC.
