I typically review places a while after I eat to fully settle in and reflect over the overall experience. For BAKO TEA HOUSE, I have to say that in am actually so utterly devastated and disappointed at how yelp and reviews lied to me saying that this place is 4.5 stars. The service was fine. The interior looks really nice. The phoenix oolong tea latte and the roasted oolong tea latte are disgusting. Tell me why I was feeling bad when I saw the drinks come out in under a minute. In what world can you have a diluted, old, no flavor, fake tea with the most mangled boba (it was not cooked properly) and charge me $7 without batting an eye? Horrible quality tea, horrible price, horrible boba, 0 stars if I could. Nah, save yourself your $7-$10 dollars and go get yourself some Omomo, some sunright, some OTHER drink
I tried going here once before but there was no parking at all so I left. Today I came back to try and there was actually parking so yall I just wanna say, this place was definitely worth trying. Its sooooooooo good! Im so glad I was able to actually try it today. Jasmine with agar boba and lychee jelly is waht I would recommend.
Bako Tea House is a nice boba place with a variety of tea drinks to choose from. Aside from caffeinated options, they also have some caffeine-free drinks like Wintermelon Tea Latte, Sesame Milk Frappe, and Golden Barley Cassia Tea Latte. Tip: Be careful with the sweetness level here because it runs pretty high. I got 75% sweetness for some drinks, and they were still pretty sweet. At 100%, one of the drinks was way too sweet and I had to dilute it. * Wintermelon Tea Latte 5/5 - This was a very tasty drink with a unique flavor from the wintermelon tea. 75% sweetness was perfect. * Peachy Green Tea 2/5 - 100% sweetness was sickening sweet. It was like drinking sugar, and I could barely taste the tea or peach flavor. Once the drink was diluted, it was better. * Matcha Latte 3/5 (75% sweetness) - The matcha was very grainy. It wasn't bad at first, but the graininess became really distracting as I kept drinking it.
Have been coming here for a while but I guess I never noticed oats as a topping before? I love oatmeal and the grainy-ness taste it gives the drink. It is one of my favorite drink toppings now second only to tea jelly from A Little Tea Genmaicha is one of my favorite teas so to have that as a latte with oat milk plus the oats was amazing. Their drinks are very tea forward which I love. I got 25% sweet which was plenty for me because I think the oats were sweetened too. Winter melon latte was standard
First thing I noticed when walking into Bako Tea House was the display of tea leaves on the counter characterizing the types of roast and flavor notes associated with each one. Coupled with the faint smell of tea in the store, and you know that you're going to get an authentic experience. Store is very clean inside and the decor reminds you of being in a tea house. There's only about 3-4 tables inside, so not too many places to sit if it gets busy. You can order through a kiosk or in person, and the service is usually pretty timely. I ordered the Roasted Oolong tea latte and the Phoenix Oolong tea latte, both of which are their more popular drink selection. I usually try to get the lowest sugar level which was 10%. Of all the tea places I've tried, these drinks easily had the strongest tea flavor at that level of sweetness. If you're not use to the bitterness from tea, you might elect to select a higher level of sweetness to balance it out. The oat milk has a very subtle flavor, but also doesn't overwhelm the drink. Either way, I thought both drinks were well-made.
Came here multiple times since I stayed in a nearby hotel. All times the drinks were good. I tried the peach oolong tea, peach green tea, passionfruit green tea, and black sesame frappe. The fruit teas are really strong and flavorful. Service is quick, I've tried both ordering on the kiosk as well as online order. The black sesame frappe is okay. It could have been blended longer. The ice was still a bit chunky and not super smooth. But it had good black sesame flavor. Overall a good spot to get your boba fix.
Very high quality of tea! Never heard of Bako Tea before, but my friend who recently visited OC asking me if I wanted to get a cup. For sure I couldn't say NO to such appealing offer. Couldn't comment much on the venue as I wasn't there. I did highly appreciate how customizable the drinks could be, beyond just tailoring the sweetness and ice level to my preference, I could even choose if I wanna go heavy on tea or heavy on milk. Obviously I went for the prior as I loved my milk tea being bolder on the tea flavor. I got the Roasted Oolong Tea Latte with whole milk at 75% sweetness level and heavy tea and I really really enjoyed it. The sweetness was just right, the tea flavor stood strong and I could tell how good the tea quality was in every sip, very fragrant and aromatic. Would obviously go for more next time and tried more from their selections. I've been eyeing on their Wintermelon Tea Latte!!
After some delicious noodles, we wanted a milk tea dessert treat. Bako is tucked between hotels and high end apartments. Their tea offerings were vast and covered all different tastes. They also had non-tea options for kids. The tea lattes were excellent! You can still taste the tea and not just milk or sugar. It was a perfect balance of bitter tea with sweet boba. The server was helpful and kind. She provided suggestions for our kiddo who wanted a treat too. The there was moderate amount of seating. Decor was modern and warm. The take-out bag reminded me of a luxury handbag. I sure did ask for one.
my bf and i were in the area and wanted to try out bako tea house since we had heard a lot about it! beware that parking here is kinda hard even with a dedicated lot since there are other nearby stores sharing the small lot. the service is pretty efficient tho, and the store is very clean with some tables and chairs to chill on! here are my thoughts on the drinks: * roasted oolong tea latte w/ grass jelly: 4/5 -- had a really nice roasted flavor that didn't make the tea taste burnt, and the tea flavor was strong and didn't get overpowered by the milk! i also really enjoyed it with the grass jelly and would definitely stick to this as my topping! * earl grey tea latte w/ boba: 3/5 -- the earl grey flavor wasn't super prominent like i usually like, so this did taste more milky i'd say. the boba was good tho and made for a nice topping addition, but i still think i'd choose the grass jelly instead!
Drinks were both really good; however the sweetness levels here are quite sweet. Would recommend 50% or even 25%. Got our drinks at 75% and 100% and that was too sweet haha
Got the roasted oolong tea latte with less sugar. I thought the tea flavor was not strong, or like watered down. I really like that this place offers lots of variety of drinks including matcha and frappe. Parking is very limited in front of the shop but I parked within the parking garage.
It was pretty good! When you walk in, the smell already lets you know it'll be high quality tea. We ordered the Phoenix Oolong 50% sweetness, but I actually would go 75-100%. The Rose Guanyin was good, but felt like there could be a bit more of that signature floral taste. Boba was chewy and fresh! There are a few small tables inside, and large parking lot available.
Decent milk tea joint worthy of multiple visits. Tea was done pretty fast and the place was nice and clean. We got the phoenix and the lychee tea. Both were good. The phoenix was definitely on par with Desouro and the lychee tea was nice and strong. I recommend 100% sweetness, but I like sweet drinks.

Love this place so much! I've been to the Cerritos location many times so I figured I'd try the Santa Ana location. There's more seating at this location which is nice! Three tables and a bench. I ordered the Roasted Oolong Latte with Grass Jelly for 7.25, and I finished it in literally 10 minutes. The prices are really good if you don't get toppings too! 50% sweetness was perfect for me, and I like how they have descriptions under each of the teas on the menu. Next time I definitely want to try one of their frappes with purple rice. They also have many season drinks including an Earl Grey Cheesecake Latte! Parking is in a small plaza and it's a 30 minute maximum, so definitely plan to grab and go! Quite close to OCMA and South Coast as well. read more

We were near South Coast Plaza and looking for a new tea spot to try. This location kept popping up during my Yelp search, so we decided to give it a try. Coming from Westminster/Garden Grove, our expectations for boba and tea drinks are admittedly pretty high. The online ordering process was simple, and they have a lot of tea options. I also really liked that the menu descriptions made it easy to get an idea of what each tea might be like. I love floral-flavored teas, so I decided to try the Osmanthus Amber Oolong Tea. I ordered it at 75% sweetness and was actually surprised that it was still a little too sweet for my taste. I'll definitely go with 50% next time. The boba was pretty average--nothing particularly special--but I did appreciate that the tea flavor and aroma were still the dominant flavors of the drink. The location was a little confusing to find. Our GPS kept trying to route us through some apartment/condo complexes, and once we finally found the shopping center, parking was pretty limited on a Saturday. Inside, the shop was super chic, modern, and beautifully minimalist, which I really appreciated. The front staff was friendly and quick to help me find my order. Overall, I don't think this is a place we'd go out of our way to visit, but I'd definitely try some of their other drinks if we're in the area again. read more

The place is somewhat hidden and glad I stop by for a drink I was satisfied and I had a fast in and out service. I think the drink was a bit sweet and the place is a lay back chill spot. The decor on the side could use some cleaning I saw dust as if no one maintained the wall display. read more
There's not many tea shops around OC that have special teas as Bako. The shop is located in a weird plaza hidden away and parking can be tough. The store is nice a clean. There's one kiosk to order from out front since the workers are usually making drinks in the back. Last time I didn't like how it was milk heavy, and I noticed their kiosk shows an option to pick milk heavy or tea heavy. An awesome addition of a drink customization! They offer special teas like genmaicha, hojicha, different types of oolong, and many more. They have different add ons as well. I did notice that the boba I got was overly sweet though. read more
I'm not sure why this place is so well reviewed, when I've only had poor experiences with the tea here. I've gotten a few of the tea lattes on different visits and they've always been pretty dilute with not much tea flavor. This time I ordered a Ceylon tea latte with 25% sugar, less ice and chose the "tea heavy" option as well (versus milk heavy). And the tea flavor is still pretty dilute. Quite disappointing. read more

This aesthetic here is how I've decorated my room. It's a beautiful Japanese, warm wooded, and dark metal accents. I usually like my plain teas with 25% sweet but I got the sesame seed frappe at 50% and I think I'll go no less than 75% sweet next time. Servers are nice and explain the menu & add ons, including their suggestions of sweetness :) I love the curation! read more
Ever since the OROBAE shutdown, Bako is the main boba place I go to. They offer a variety of milk and fruit teas with different toppings. This time, I got the Phoenix Oolong Tea Latte with 25% sugar, less ice, boba, and tea heavy. What I appreciate about Bako is the tea heavy option because I really enjoy the tea flavor. The tea was floral and smooth. And the boba was just the right chewiness for me. Everything about it just tastes really balanced. Drinks came out in around 5 min on a Saturday afternoon. Not much seating indoors but there are a few additional 2-person tables lined up against the window outside. read more

Yyummy and delicious! The phoenix oolong tea latte has a slight floral aroma and taste but pretty nice oolong notes. Boba is nice and chewy and with 50% sugar it's not too sweet nor bland. What a gorgeous tea spot. I love the ambiance and interior design. Places like these make you feel like you're buying luxury tea LOL I want to design my future home or office like this. Let's talk about the tea, though. Here are my drink ratings: OSMANTHUS AMBER OOLONG TEA, 8/10 - so yummy and the boba i got it with was a good chewy texture. i think the regular is a little too sweet for me personally but i usually order 50-75% sweet HOJICHA LATTE, 6/10 (my BF rates 6.8/10) - not the best hojicha we've had but it'll do Service was fast. I think we were the first to order because we came right at opening LOL. Will come back soon to try other menu items! read more
Tried this spot with a friend after shopping at South Coast! I ordered the hojicha latte, and she got the Phoenix Oolong latte. My hojicha latte was just ok - the portion size was very generous, but I did not taste any tea flavor unfortunately. I thought it was just kind of like slightly flavored and watered down milk. My friend did like her drink though, so maybe I just need to try more of the menu. The inside of this store is pretty cute, with 3 tables that are decently sized, and service is good. This could be a good study spot, but I personally would not come here just for the drinks. read more

You can taste the tea! I got peach green tea 50% sweet and it was still very sweet so I'd say this place is on the sweeter side. Parking is kind of weird but I think there is a parking garage that you can use. Otherwise, there is like strip of parking spaces in the front. read more
Bako has quickly become one of my top boba spots in Orange County. My favorite drink is the roasted oolong tea which has a great balance of flavor and richness. I also appreciate that they offer oat milk and let you customize everything from sugar level to ice level, toppings and even whether you want the drink sealed or not. Their boba is always on point with a soft and chewy texture that is consistently good. Their matcha is okay, but I definitely prefer their milk tea options. The interior is very minimal and aesthetic which makes it a comfortable place to stop by. The customer service is accommodating and they move orders along efficiently. The only downside is that parking can be tough since the lot is small and fills up quickly. read more
Maybe the best boba I've had in a while since leaving California. The tea quality was amazing. Even when you walk in you can smell how great it is. The staff were kind and efficient. There were a few tables and a bench to sit and wait at. The tea was refreshing and the boba was fresh as well, soft and not firm at all and it stayed that way till the drink was gone. This was my first time trying this boba place, and I really enjoyed it. I ordered the rose guanyin tea latte and it had a very strong tea flavor. The rose itself was fragrant but not overpowering, and the boba texture was perfect! The service was just alright. It took a while for the workers to acknowledge me since they were pretty busy, which is understandable. It was really crowded for a weekend, but it seemed like a good study spot because there is a lot of seating available. Overall, I would definitely try this place again, but I would recommend visiting when they're not as busy so your order comes out quicker. read more
Very solid tea shop offering flavorful and good quality tea. Calm and relaxing space. I have tried most of the menu and all the teas are top quality brews. Parking can get interesting during peak hours and you may need to park in the garage structure. Please come and create your own adventure. read more
This boba shop is located in a shppping complex with limited parking. However, the past few times I went, I was able to snag a parking spot. Upon walking in, the boba shop is nicely decorated and not super busy. There are a few tables and chairs which can fill up since the space is not that big. We ordered the Jasmine Green Tea Latte and a Phoenix Oolong Tea Latte with Boba 1/2 sweet. Both drinks had a strong tea taste which was nice. The Jasmine was sweet and creamy which I really liked. The phoenix oolong could be better. When you drink the phoenix oolong, it tastes watery with the oolong tea as an after taste. I would probably recommend to get this full sweet to get rid of the water taste. Overall, this place is not bad, just depends on the drink you get. Bako definitely has a stronger tea taste than a lot of boba shops. read more
Bako is a great spot to stop by for their teas and matcha if you like them milkier than most others. I like the atmosphere of their indoor seating, and while it is pretty limited because it's a small building, it doesn't take too long to get your order at least. Their Roasted Oolong Tea Latte is so good and you can tell their teas in general are just good quality. I also got an Umami Matcha Milk Frappe, and it wasn't too bad. I would just say their teas and tea lattes are better options, but this was still pretty good. The matcha is just a bit faint and pretty milky, but it goes with what the name implies. Overall, I would definitely recommend Bako Tea House if you're in the mood for anything tea related! I agree with the sentiment that their teas are high quality and taste amazing. read more
Came here for the first time a few weeks ago. Parking is a bit sparse at this location... I got the peachy oolong tea and enjoyed it very much. The tea flavor is strong and the peach flavor was well-balanced (none of that artificial stuff!). read more
I ordered the kumquat lemon green tea with boba for pickup and I thought it was okay. The drink itself was more sour than I'd like so I'd definitely go from 25% sweetness to 50% next time. I'd skip out on the boba, it was too chewy and firm. I'd prefer it to be softer. Overall, just ok for this drink. read more

I was too scared to try the matcha because in other Yelp reviews the color seems inconsistent. After seeing it in person, I definitely would order it next time as the green looked vibrant. The drinks we got were a good balance of tea, milk, and sweetness. We ordered using the kiosk, super simple and straight forward. They have a few indoor and outdoor seating spots. The parking in front of the store is 30 minute parking. The restroom could use a little love, it didn't look very clean and there are some maintenance issues. ig: @cravingswithcat read more
