First thing I noticed when walking into Bako Tea House was the display of tea leaves on the counter characterizing the types of roast and flavor notes associated with each one. Coupled with the faint smell of tea in the store, and you know that you're going to get an authentic experience. Store is very clean inside and the decor reminds you of being in a tea house. There's only about 3-4 tables inside, so not too many places to sit if it gets busy. You can order through a kiosk or in person, and the service is usually pretty timely. I ordered the Roasted Oolong tea latte and the Phoenix Oolong tea latte, both of which are their more popular drink selection. I usually try to get the lowest sugar level which was 10%. Of all the tea places I've tried, these drinks easily had the strongest tea flavor at that level of sweetness. If you're not use to the bitterness from tea, you might elect to select a higher level of sweetness to balance it out. The oat milk has a very subtle flavor, but also doesn't overwhelm the drink. Very high quality of tea! Never heard of Bako Tea before, but my friend who recently visited OC asking me if I wanted to get a cup. For sure I couldn't say NO to such appealing offer. Couldn't comment much on the venue as I wasn't there. I did highly appreciate how customizable the drinks could be, beyond just tailoring the sweetness and ice level to my preference, I could even choose if I wanna go heavy on tea or heavy on milk. Obviously I went for the prior as I loved my milk tea being bolder on the tea flavor. I got the Roasted Oolong Tea Latte with whole milk at 75% sweetness level and heavy tea and I really really enjoyed it. The sweetness was just right, the tea flavor stood strong and I could tell how good the tea quality was in every sip, very fragrant and aromatic. Came here multiple times since I stayed in a nearby hotel. All times the drinks were good. I tried the peach oolong tea, peach green tea, passionfruit green tea, and black sesame frappe. The fruit teas are really strong and flavorful. Service is quick, I've tried both ordering on the kiosk as well as online order. The black sesame frappe is okay. It could have been blended longer. I tried three different drinks here, and as someone who drinks boba regularly, this was one of the few places where I couldn't even finish my drink. All three beverages tasted incredibly watered down to the point where I could barely taste any tea. There was no richness or depth of flavor just watered-down milk and sweetness. The boba itself also had a strange aftertaste that made the drinks even less enjoyable. What made the experience worse was the service. There were no customers when we came in, yet the staff came across as cold and unwelcoming. One employee standing off to the side kept staring at us the entire time, which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Customer service goes a long way, especially when a business isn't busy, and unfortunately that was lacking here as well. Tried this spot with a friend after shopping at South Coast! I ordered the hojicha latte, and she got the Phoenix Oolong latte. My hojicha latte was just ok - the portion size was very generous, but I did not taste any tea flavor unfortunately. I thought it was just kind of like slightly flavored and watered down milk. Bako has quickly become one of my top boba spots in Orange County. My favorite drink is the roasted oolong tea which has a great balance of flavor and richness. I also appreciate that they offer oat milk and let you customize everything from sugar level to ice level, toppings and even whether you want the drink sealed or not. Their boba is always on point with a soft and chewy texture that is consistently good. Their matcha is okay, but I definitely prefer their milk tea options. Upon walking in, the boba shop is nicely decorated and not super busy. There are a few tables and chairs which can fill up since the space is not that big. We ordered the Jasmine Green Tea Latte and a Phoenix Oolong Tea Latte with Boba 1/2 sweet. Both drinks had a strong tea taste which was nice. The Jasmine was sweet and creamy which I really liked. The phoenix oolong could be better. When you drink the phoenix oolong, it tastes watery with the oolong tea as an after taste. I would probably recommend to get this full sweet to get rid of the water taste. Overall, this place is not bad, just depends on the drink you get. They are located on the first level of what looks like some apartments. They are also across from a hotel. The parking was at an angle and a lot of people parked poorly. Upon entering the store looked modern and simplistic. There was a few small tables inside and 2 more outside. Not great for large groups to enjoy it here but not bad for 2 people. The staff greeted us and took our order. There is also a kiosk for self-ordering. My friend had the Wintermelon Tea Latte ($6) at 50% sweet and I had Matcha Latte ($6.70) at 70% sweet. They are all one size. The drinks were made quickly. We took our drinks outside to chat, but the downside is that we both got bitten up by mosquitos by the end of the night. On the bright side, I really enjoyed my drink. They use ceremonial grade matcha so I really enjoyed the quality of the product.
