Said dealership warned us about six months ago that my rotors were shot and even dangerous, and seemed reluctant to let us take the car away, since we didn't have the money just sitting in the account to cover that level of repair. I've been carefully babying the brakes since then. After saving up enough, in the interest of convenience (distance from home), possibly saving money, and getting a second opinion, we dropped it off two nights ago at Salem County Auto Repair, with the list of what we were told/what we thought it needed. They called us the next day with the assessment: it doesn't need rotors, even the pads are still fine, but the brakes just needed adjusting. Oh! My! Gosh! They could easily have done the rotor job, made the money, and we'd never have known the difference, but they didn't. We'd asked for a tune-up & oil change. They said that it could maybe use an oil change but they had the records of when they did the last tune-up and, even though some time had passed, the car really didn't have enough miles to warrant a full tune-up. We've brought the car here, before, just because sometimes we're too lazy to drive the 25-ish miles to the dealership, it's older, and some things are just mechanical, not make/model-specific and "any shop can do them". We've always been very pleased with the work, the customer service, the promptness and especially the prices. They have actually not won over just one customer but all three of us (and our cars) in the immediate family.

This is a great place to have your vehicles maintenance done for a reasonable price! The employees…read moreare so friendly and polite it's hard to believe! And then you have the owner Jeremiah what a really great respectful guy sorry I didn't go there 20 years ago!!!

Hubby and I stopped in yesterday for a headlight for his truck and were warmly greeted and helped by employee Joseph. He looked up the make and model, saving us a great deal of time trying to decipher what's in the book that's back near the bulb display. We use that book about every five years, so each time is a new experience in confusion and uncertainty. (We always swear that we'll keep the packaging in the glove compartment for next time, but by the time we need it, the gremlins have carried it away.) He explained the different quality levels and our options. Hubby found a set that he liked and as we were checking out, Joseph recommended that we also get the small packet of contact grease to put on the prongs before installing the lights. We were floored. In an area that we've found painfully (for us) lacking in preventive measures (for example, putting grease on bicycles' moving parts, primer and paint for wood that's sitting on or in the ground, such as mailbox posts and shed steps), here was a kindred spirit, the first we've met in over nine years of living here. As big fans of quality and trying to not have to do the same work over and over when a little planning ahead is all it takes to prevent it, we are confirmed fans of Advance Auto Parts.
