Check engine light kept coming on. I was taking my truck to Midas on Kirkwood Highway since Nov 2022 and they were just sucking money from me. I wanted a 2nd opinion and went to Kirkwood Auto. They ran multiple diagnostic tests, test drove it 3 times and did their due diligence to locate the issue. It was minor when Midas was telling me it was something major. I will recommend and start taking both my cars to Kirkwood Auto. read more

Kirkwood really saved me during these challenging and unpredictable times. I was quarantined in West Virginia for 4 weeks before driving to NYC to drop a friend off (who quarantined with me). On my drive back, my car developed an issue with the brake where the bolt holding the caliper popped out, causing the caliper to a scrape against the inside of the tire (metal on metal). I pulled into the Delaware Welcome Center, and it was already late. I got AAA to tow my car overnight to Kirkwood and got a last minute hotel until Kirkwood opened the next morning. Within 45 minutes of opening - they gave me a call letting me know they were going to see my car. I explained to them my situation and they responded with kindness and urgency. They gave me a call back letting me know my car would be ready at 12, and even had a shuttle come pick me up from my hotel. They took the additional precautions including sanitizing the car before and after servicing, and the pricing was affordable and the car drove great after. I would give zero stars if I could. I brought my car in for a brake check because my emergency brake felt stiff and my brakes were seizing at low speeds and my car needed an oil change. They changed my brake fluid and one of the service members told me they adjusted my emergency brake over the phone but that service was not reflected in my receipt. that service was around $400. I then had to take it back to them because the issue was still happening. They kept my car there for several days and said they could not replicate the issue I was experiencing and suggested that I come down and drive the car myself and call them if the issue happened. When the issue occurred off of their property, they urged me to drive the car back to the shop, using kirkwood highway, even though the car did not feel safe to drive. The subsequent repairs were another $400. After both visits, my emergency brake is now too loose and my car slides when it is on a hill when in park and they refused to see my car back to fix the issue. The only satisfactory service was the oil change. The staff were fairly polite over the phone but in person they were a bit rude and they didn't seem to take the issue seriously, especially when they insisted my car was safe to drive when the brakes were faulty (I had my car towed to the shop both times for repairs). I feel taken advantage of with the high prices and overall did not have a pleasant experience with the staff. I will not be bringing my car to them again. read more

After my last encounter, would not let them work on my bicycle. Took vehicle in for an oil change, they stripped the nut from the oil pan, then offered to fix it for $700. They then said that I could not prove that they stripped the nut. A new oil pan was available for $35. The cost of the fix was spectacularly less the the $700 offer. read more

Kirkwood Auto is not the place to take your car. Norm is always gonna win no matter what. That's his job. He will do it at any cost. Many years ago they put on a muffler 2x backwards. The tech told the supervisor, it fit better that way even though the arrow on the muffler was pointing in the wrong direction. Turned out the pipe was defective and bent improperly. That was handled well and not when Norm was around. it was Tom, a high school classmate. A more recent experience wasn't. An insurance job where a mouse ate through the spark plug wires and the MAF sensor. They lost a keyfob and key too. Note that when the sensor pigtail was replaced, the wires were knicked. I re-coded the colors. The key was never checked to see if it worked. A more "hidden" problem occurred. They re-routed the spark plug wires badly. Eventually, I replaced all three coils and the spark plug wires. The misfires were subtle and initially did not set codes. When they set codes, the corresponding coil was replaced. On the #6 cylinder, the coil didn't fix it. When The plug wires were carefully examined near the firewall, the plug wires were all melted. I may have pics. One day in the rain, the car barely drove and I fell that day on a grassy hill. I stopped in a restaurant just to give the car a rest. Unsafe because they don't put any attention into the quality of their work. Of course, they fixed the key, the lost keyfob and the nick on the wires and the muffler on backwards, but the engine misses occurred over a 3 month time frame. Norm, I wish it was your car that was serviced by your crew. Before you take your car there, I suggest you meet Norm first. He'll win every time. read more

I've been looking for a decent mechanic(s), and lately I've had bad luck with either flakey mechanics who can't keep appointments or larger corporate outfits like Pep Boys who don't do the best work and charge an arm and a leg. I was very pleased with Kirkwood Auto, they were prompt, kept me up to date with what was happening with my vehicle, and were friendly and easy to talk to. Their prices are also more than fair. I will definitely be using them again. read more

Oh norm, you simply can't take criticism on your business' mishaps. This vehicle was ADULT driven, not some punk kid trying to impress his friends by beating on the car. You guys did a HORRIBLE job on installing the first engine, in which use did not honor the warranty after it failed!! The intake LITERALLY sucked in the rubber housing because YOUR business installed it on the inside of the intake, rather than the outside of the intake. So it sucked it in, lost all power, INCLUDING the brakes. Being ADULT driven, I was able to maintain control of the car before it could have caused a serious accident. And 3 months??? lol, Norm, quit with the lies. I will do the digging to find the exact dates, as you originally DENIED this incident ever even happening, which is an insult in itself. So cut it out. Stop trying to justify everything. You SCREWED UP 7 years ago, and now the past has come back to haunt you. I suggest you quit now while you're behind, as I will include more and more details regarding not only this incident, but others. read more

People were very nice, but the service was horrible. I popped two of my tires and had AAA tow my car to this auto center. They had my car for 5 days just for a tire replacement. Every time I called to ask why my car hadn't even been looked at yet, they told me that they needed to get to the appointments first. Sorry I couldn't make a preemptive appointment for my blown out tires. Once I finally did get my car back, they had left all the materials to replace my tires on my passenger seat even tho they had gotten them from the trunk. They even removed an internal piece of my trunk and not replace it. They even left grease on the inside of my driver's side door. I have never left a bad review on this app, but this experience was truly horrible. read more

Please read the entire post. I went in for a 39.95 oil change for a 2014 VW Beetle. The gentleman said it takes full synthetic, so I said sure to the 59.95 total. When the bill came it was 109.95. He said that since the car was under warranty, they had to use VW specs. They never told me about the difference in price, they just did it. If I would have known that it would have been this much, I would have done it myself as I usually do my own oil changes. I didn't have time to do it this time. Needless to say, I will never go back again. After making this post, the owner called to apologize for the employee not letting me about the $50 upcharge for the VW synthetic oil. He said he spoke to the gentleman at the service desk and said he should have honored the original quote. He wanted to refund me the $50 back, but I said I would have paid the $109.95 if they told me upfront. I said we could split the difference if he wanted to. Horrible service! Paid nearly $700 for a sway bar & a brake light only to get my car back with the rear view mirror dangling by its wires. Not only was my vehicle damaged upon pick up but the staff was also very rude and unhelpful. I was told a lower price on some of the parts needed and ended up charged nearly double! My radiator cap was left off which led to overheating on my way home from the shop. Kirkwood refused to acknowledge their wrong doing and treated me like complete crap and refused to resolve any of the issues that they created while they had possesion of my vehicle, very dissapointing. Ill NEVER be doing business here again. I'd give 0 stars if that were an option. read more

Decent service and staff. Very up front about what needed to be done and confirmed what work I wanted done before doing it. Reasonable prices. They also completed all the work in one day which was nice. They have a good location and a nice waiting area. They also offer a shuttle service which many places do not. Had a great experience with tire replacement last week - this was my first time here. I shopped around quite a bit and the only place that beat Kirkwood's price on tire and installation was BJs, but they didn't have the tire in stock and couldn't say when they would. Kirkwood gave me an online quote and stuck to it. I dropped off the car the night before and hoped it would be done by 3 the next afternoon. They called to say it was ready just after 10 am. The woman who rang me up when I came to pick up the car was very nice. There are tire shops all over Kirkwood Highway, but I would not hesitate to use this place again. read more

Took my car in for a simple alignment, upon completion I was told the tie rods were fully maxed out to get the car's toe back in factory specs. Furthermore, I was told my power steering rack was bent and would need to be replaced in the near future (a $2,500 job). I immediately took my car to two larger shops and was told a few things...1. the alignment was done incorrectly, 2. the tie rods were not maxed out on adjusments, and 3. my power steering rack was most definitely not bent. In conclusion, Kirkwood Auto Center can't be trusted to do an honest job when it comes to car maintenance. I would not recommend this criminal business to anyone. I would have given 0 stars if that were a possibility. read more

If I could give them zero star rating I would. They do not stand by their work. Paid over $400 for one problem got into my car (on their property) to start it and find MULTIPLE warning lights and other issues with my car. On TOP of the fact my one original problem was not even fixed (discovered I had the same original problem the very next morning). When I noticed all these different alert lights - while still on their property - I go right back in and tell them my findings, they say they can schedule to look at it 1 week later (7 whole days). Come back one week later..... They can't fix ANY of the problems (not even the original problem that I already paid for). I speak with their manager, Chris, and he does not want to own up to anything and doesn't want to give me my money back, although they CLEARLY know my original problem wasn't fixed. I just get, "Well you signed the paper". The paperwork was signed under the assumption my car was fixed and I wouldn't have ADDITIONAL issues created on their time and signed because I want my key back! Do yourself a favor, do not go here. They do not stand by their work. You'll be rolling a dice. read more
