Brought in my 64 corvette {c2 corvettes are a challenge to work on, so had issues finding someone that would work on it}, it was pulling hard to left when braking, I had guessed it was a front right piston, so left the parts with them and the car. They are busy, but were able to get started on it the first day, and found it was not the front piston after replacing. They were able to keep under covered parking while they worked through the possibilities, replaced rear pistons and some other needed parts along the way, and turned the rotors and it is now braking better than ever, and they did it all at a reasonable price. They are talented mechanics, I highly recommend them for any work needed, old or new cars. read more

If you're looking for a competent muffler shop to do basic welding services, this is NOT the place for you to go. After my first visit with them to have my exhaust done, their own weld spot brakes. I then take it back to them to fix, and the fixed spot brakes again. At this point considering they haven't charged me for fixing their mistake they've made, it happens again. I still don't mind going back to them because they take care of me each time. Finally I arrive at the visit today with the same issue of their work breaking I am being forced to pay for the problems they have created. Upon paying for the service, the welder comes out of the shop upset with me trying to convince me that because i have "modified my exhaust" (their work). Its now my problem. I do not recommend anyone to do business with them. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! I brought my care here and asked how much it would be to cut off the mufflers and install about 12 inches of pipe in their place. Instead of giving me an estimate, they went ahead and did the work, without telling me the price first. I didn't worry too much about it because it was such a simple job. It took them about 20 minutes to do the work. When they were done, they told me it was $175!!! I was very surprised and upset but I went ahead and paid and kept it to myself. A couple weeks later, I decided to have them reinstall the original mufflers, a task the mechanic said was "super easy" They told me this would cost me $80!!! These guys are crooks and deserve to go out of business.....AVOID AT ALL COSTS, THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU!!! read more

Absolutely the greatest service you could experience. Bobby Gentry's was recommended to me by my fantastic auto mechanic shop, Denton European, and I was not disappointed. I took both of my VW's in for alignments, they were on time for my appointments, they explained my cars measurements before and after the alignments, as well as information on a defective part they discovered on my Jetta. I had hit a curb with my Jetta which caused the defective part/bent control arm...Bodie was very helpful in explaining how the bent control arm was affecting my overall steering geometry. He was able to align my Jetta despite the bent control arm and it was interesting to hear how what the geometry was due to the damaged part. Bodie was able to overcome the issue to get me back on the road and gave me a very reasonable quote to come back for later replacement. My cars drive great now and no more unusual tire wear on my vehicles! From the scheduler who runs the front of the house to Bodie who worked on my cars, it was a great, great shop with professional employees who were VERY friendly people too! read more

Went in today with a loud exhaust on my dad's 92 Miata. The service was fast and honest. I figured the muffler was shot but they told me just a rusted pipe between the resonator and muffler. I opted to replace the resonator and pipe. I asked about adding a chrome exhaust tip to the factory pipe and they informed me it had a polished stainless steel tip. I looked out in the shop and saw the exhaust guy polishing it with some cleaner and steel wool. So refreshing to see an honest shop that truly cares. read more

I had to have new struts for my car. This place was recommended as the best in town. I don't know much about struts but I guess I got a good value. They aren't very talkative. I guess my main concern is that they had the tires off my car and I bet you that they saw all 4 tires had steel belts showing. But no one told me. I got to experience a blow out on the freeway in the rain this morning. Picked up the car on a Thursday and blew out a tire on Tuesday. The thing is, I asked before leaving there if there was anything I needed to be concerned about. The tire shop I got to said this represented poor customer service. I agree. read more

I was recommended to come here by the guys at Afford-It Tires because they said I had some alignment issues when they changed out my tires. I set an appointment and came in. They estimated about an hour on the wait and it only took about 40 minutes. Everything appears in order so I'm pretty sure they did a good job on the work. However, my problem was with the staff and the process, though everyone was polite. Unfortunately, no one spoke to me about the work that was done. The very nice elderly gentleman who worked the desk had no idea my car was finished (though it seemed like one of the mechanics indicated as much to him) and I finally had to ask about it. He was definitely struggling with organization and awareness (I'm sure that was no fault of his own, but working the desk just wasn't working out). What was a little more frustrating was having to stand at the desk for about 15 minutes waiting for the other guy to finish his seeming personal call to print out my receipt and take my money. At the end of it all I was standing around for about 30 minutes total after my car was done waiting on people to figure out what was going on, communicate, and get off the phone. Again I think these people probably did good work and they weren't outright rude, but it would have been a perfect experience if they had been politely efficient. read more

Bobby Gentry and his staff are EXCELLENT mechanics. Customer service isn't necessarily a strong suite, however. When I called to see if they had time to change my brake pads, I got a few grunts, a "hurry up, we close at noon" and no goodbye before they hung up the phone. When I arrived, no employee was in the customer area for several minutes and when the guy came in, "whacha need" was the air of response I got (although I don't remember exactly what he said). I told him I needed new brake pads and after about 10 minutes, they took my car to the back. 30 minutes had passed after that and I asked how long it would take and they gave me a time that was almost 30 minute later than it already was. When I asked what they were doing to take that long and how much it would cost, he said, "Did they not give you an estimate?" No, buddy, you're the ONLY person I've talked to (and take talked to with a grain of salt, it was more like you're the only one who's grunted at me). So he says it'll be $150 or so, so I asked what all they were doing. When they said they were turning my rotors, I told them all I wanted was new brake pads and they weren't authorized to do anymore than that. A few minutes later, the guy working on my car (turns out it's Bobby Gentry himself) comes in and tells me that he doesn't do shotty work, he's already turning one of my brake rotors and if I only want the pads changed, I need to take my car elsewhere. I told him (in the same tone he gave me) that I didn't ask for anything more than the pads and don't appreciate work I didn't authorize being done on my car. FINALLY, he offered to take me to show me how badly my rotor needed to be turned. Yes, one of them did need to be turned but repeated that I didn't appreciate the lack of communication on his part. How dare he assume that I might not understand what my car needed and he could just do whatever work he felt was necessary! We went round and round on matters of ethics and finally, he apologized for not communicating with me the work needed before he started doing the work. I don't care if you've been in business for 31 years. I'm a new customer and you still need to prove to me that you're a good enough mechanic for me to trust you to work on my car. I just picked this mechanic out of Yelp because I knew I couldn't make it back from Denton to Austin without new brake pads. Yes, a woman can understand the mechanics of her car, thank you. He ended up not charging me for turning the rotors, although I insisted on paying for work done. The car stops well when I brake so I'm happy. Like I said, he's a good mechanic and I'd take my car back there again...maybe. I really appreciate a sense of customer service when I do business with them. This place was great! A different, nearby repair place (Advanced Auto Repair) took a look and told me I needed all four brake pads AND new rotors. I doubted the need for new rotors, so I picked up my car and took it to Bobby Gentry's for a second look. They were able to safely complete the repair with only pads saving at least $400. I wouldn't take my car to the other place again-EVER. I knew I didn't need new rotors. There was no haggling or sales pitch at BG's and was able to conveniently drop my car off and pick it up after hours by paying over the phone. STOPP!! DO NOT GO HERE!! I was having SERIOUS exhaust problems so I take my car to the closest and seemingly most qualified place in Denton for the issue. I dropped the car off when they were closed but left it over night for them to work on the next morning they called first thing in the morning which I greatly appreciated (before I knew why). So they quoted me 175 over the phone. Fine. When I get there the total is 195. Not the same price I was quoted but hey if the work is complete and convenient I'm not gonna complain About $20. The younger Bobby smirked when I told him which car was mine which I thought was odd but Ive always been leary about mechanics I don't know working on my car so I chalked it up to me being paranoid. So the VERY next morning on my way to work I hear something pop and it peeled a layer of my tired off and shredded a huge chunk of my back bumper and the opening to my gas tank is GONE! Not exaggerating I literally pulled up to the gas station put $40 on the pump and opened the door to fill up and head to another shop just to find THERES ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE TO PUT THE GAS NOZZLE INTO. I CAN SEE THE TRUNK FROM INSIDE THE GAS DOOR OPENING!!! I called over and over and explained the problem to 3 different people, and Bobby the shop owner told me to send pictures because I wasn't about to tow my car 45 minutes away just to find out he might not cover his damages. He concluded he had no part in this happening and blamed it on a blow out which didn't make sense because I still got to work and 3 days later the tire is still full of air. How does a tire "blow" yet hold air and still drive 70mph 8-10 miles? I would never have imagined this crazy of an experienced but I can definitely say I'll never step foot in the place or recommend it again. read more

I've used gentry for years for my alignment, suspension, and brake needs. I am typically a do it yourself car person, except when something is out of my scope. I don't have An alignment rack. And also, sometimes you just don't have the time. Gentry is honest and keeps his word on a quote, even if he has to eat some labor. Shame on Bobby's Gentry's muffler and brake shop in Denton Tx. If I could go with zero start I would. Went to this place recomended by another shop. And they proved why I hate going to places like this. Went in for a tire alignment and they ended up further damaging my bumper breaking it off from one end. Sad part is that I had to find out myself 10 min after when I was washing my car. I went back to Bobby's and asked him about the damage. He open admitted further damaging my car when they pulled equipment from under it then try to say that my car was already damaged Blah blah blah. His words "it was already damage I just help it to get more damaged and he would not take responsibility". WTH really. Ok just because a vehicle already has an exciting damage to it doesn't make it okay to further damaged it and most importantly fail to inform the customer of the incident. Bottom line he is running a horrible business when he has no integrity, principal and lacks honesty. I wonder what else they try to hide and end up laying about. Bad communication between employees, owner, and customer. Brought a truck in for a new muffler. Employee quoted me $250 for good used parts so my truck could pass inspection. Told me they'd call when parts were in. Never got a call, called myself and was told to bring it in any time. Brought it in thinking they were putting used parts on. Put new parts on and charged me $405. Didn't find out they were used til service was done. Owner told me they don't put used parts on vehicles and there was nothing they could do but have me bring the truck back and they'd cut off the parts and I could go elsewhere. Wow. read more

Took them my 2013 Ram 2500 to have a Carli Suspension System installed. Get the truck back to find out they didn't bother reading the very clear instructions and installed my sway bar and end links improperly. Also noticed the limiting straps were not installed. Called to ask about picking up my paid for limiting straps only to have them play dumb and claim they don't know what those are. So now I get to pay another shop to re-install the seas bar and end links as well as purchase new limiting straps from Carli. They do alignments just fine but don't trust them with actual suspension work!!! read more
