Let me preface this by saying that I have never written a Yelp review before in my life. I was so disappointed by Chapman Auto Repair that I felt I had an obligation to warn others. I was ripped off by this business. I went to Chapman Auto Repair because it is conveniently located. I was satisfied with the routine maintenance and repairs they did but they always gave me a long list of suggested services. I usually went there every time my check-tire-pressure light went off. The car has a faulty sensor -so the light goes off sometimes when the tire pressure isn't low. It has done this ever since I hit a curb with my front tire. Every time I went in they would charge me for "fixing the sensor" -they would charge $60 for this. I have since gone elsewhere and I have never been charged -other auto shops just reset the sensor for free. I once asked them to check one of the belts because my parents had taken the car to a different shop and it was suggested the belt needed to be replaced. Keep in mind I know nothing about cars. They told me that the belt was worn out. They gave me the estimate, I agreed and they went ahead and replaced the belt. That same week, I checked my records and found an invoice from the other shop -it turned out that the belt I had asked about had already been replaced by my parents just one month prior. I should have made sure about this before I agreed to the services but still -they lied when they said the belt was worn. I went back and asked about this and they lied to me again, stating that they had done the replacement because the belt had been installed wrong by the other auto shop! And then there's Wesley. He seems like a nice enough guy, but he can't seem to stop himself from describing his whole life story as he drives you around town in the courtesy car. He spared no detail with me. For example, I now know that his son had a child out of wedlock because he talked at length about what a sorry sight his son's baby-momma is. This is all rather personal -which is perhaps why I shouldn't share it on the internet- but that is also why he shouldn't be sharing it with customers. I will never give this business my money ever again. Please do not take your car to them. read more

This place use to be 807 Chapman Car Care. It's still on Yelp but reads "closed". Don't let that fool you. It's still owned and run by the same crew. Their motto is that they are "nice guys to deal with". Of course they are. Most fast talking, slick salesmen are. So you should go to the listing for 807 and read and PAY ATTENTION to all the 3 star and below reviews. Those people have this joint's number. The DECEPTION starts even before you get in the door. Outside they have a sign that says they were voted "Best of Orange". As if it were some independent civic award. Get them to tell you, specifically, WHO voted them that. The REAL answer is that they did it themselves and just hung up the sign. When you get inside their service writers will ask you all sorts of personal questions that have nothing to do with repairing your car. This information goes into their computer so they can act like your big buddy on future visits...if you are silly enough to return. The service writers will also tell you that they are not on commission. Don't believe it. The more services or repairs they can sell you, the more they make. You might also hear that ALL of their mechanics are Master certified. That is not true either. If you check around you will also find that their hourly rate is ABOVE average for the area. And don't even get me started on how much they mark up the parts they put in your car. If your car breaks down (and this especially goes for CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY students), and the tow-truck driver says he knows a great place to take your car, and it's Chapman Auto Repair. Tell him NO! They have been known to "tip' drivers that bring cars to them. So go read the old reviews for 807 Chapman Car Care...and be forewarned. read more

Fabulous service! The professionalism and kindness I received from Ryan @ Chapman Auto Repair was greatly appreciated last Saturday morning as I drove in to Orange from Ventura w/ my daughter to tour Chapman University. We googled auto repair and drove straight to Chapman Auto Repair of Orange praying it would be an honorable business. Our plans were to visit Chapman University and then on to San Diego to tour colleges. As soon as I drove in I knew I was in a safe, reputable business. Ryan came out to meet me before I could step in the business office- which was immaculate. He assured me that they would not only take care of whatever the problem was but they'd also do their best to get me in the road as quickly as possible given my situation. He also offered their customer service van to drop us @ the university so we could stay on schedule. As we finished up our tour Ryan phoned me w/ the diagnosis, informed me that he had already ordered the part required, gave me an estimate & additional info on other fixes needed but not necessarily today and promised to have my car ready w/ in 2 hours. Just enough time for us to head into Orange's historic Old Towne for lunch and a little shopping. As promised, Ryan called prior to the 2 hr deadline and we were on our way to San Diego. The car runs great- no "surprise" add-on fees. They printed everything out and placed it in a blue folder for my mechanic where I live making it easy for me to locate/share. They answer their phones here with , "Chapman Auto Repair- The happiest place on earth!" I laughed to myself but "get it"- they're all about being PRO'S at what they do- especially how they treat people. HIGHLY recommend this terrific business! read more

It was a massive job--definitely not something every shop can handle but the team at Chapman proved right away that they truly know their stuff. From the very first conversation, they were straightforward, knowledgeable, and reassuring. They walked me through the repair plan, kept me updated consistently, and handled every part of the process with real professionalism. Despite the amount of work required, they finished everything in a timely and efficient manner, without ever compromising on quality. What impressed me even more was the extra care they put into returning my vehicle. When the repairs were done, they delivered my Hummer back to me washed, cleaned up, and looking practically brand new. That attention to detail really says a lot about how they treat their customers. This review is long overdue. 2+ years to be exact. My visit was in May of 2020 I think. When I lived in Orange I took my 2006 Mercedes E class in for a smog check. If I could give them 10 stars I would. From the first phone call on, they were so helpful and nice. Right away I knew this was going to be my new go-to place. As a single woman, it can be difficult to go in to an auto body shop and feel like you're not being taken advantage of or treated like you don't know what you're asking for, etc. Ladies am I right!! But I felt completely comfortable here. You can tell immediately that its a family business and they care very much about their service quality and their customers. I was going to take my car back to them for an oil change, which I was pleasantly surprised to be told they do on Mercedes. But then shortly after I ended up moving out of state and selling that car. I would highly recommend this shop, and I'm actually really bummed that I don't live nearby anymore, because I was really looking forward to supporting such a great Old Town Orange business. I had such a great experience at Chapman Auto Repair that I just signed up with Yelp to write a review. They had a Groupon for an AC recharge and leak test and the price was so reasonable that I traveled to have it done. To my surprise, I found them to be honest, transparent, incredibly fair and their work comes with a guarantee that I'd come back for anything else my car needs. They also have superb customer service (rivals Amazon's); they offered me a ride while the car was being serviced, I was given the opportunity to talk with the mechanic before the work was done to address any comments, questions or concerns, when the parts were removed they showed them to me proving why it was necessary to replace them, and when they finished with the car they gave me a voucher for a free car wash at a place just up the street. The owner (John) is aboveboard; he knows how to run a business, has a great business philosophy and takes care of his customers. My expectations were far exceeded; so far that if my car needs anything else, I'd gladly travel to Chapman Auto Repair again. read more

Recently needed second opinion and took my car to Chapman Auto Service in Orange CA - and John please don't try to say it was a different shop. These guys are afraid to tell you that you need a headgasket when you come for a second opinion, and instead of helping solve the problem, they think putting stop leak in a brand new radiator and faking the changing of a thermostat is a bandaid, but not revealing what they have done to harm your car. Beware. The cost of replacing the radiator and cleaning a whole cooling system was $800 and I still had to fix the headgasket issue, as well as pulling away from their shop with a puddle of fluids under my car when I pulled into my office parking lot. Dissappointing is a mild comment. A much better mechanic is just a few blocks away and I will never allow Chapman Auto Repair to touch my car again. I am out $1700 from Chapman Auto's mishandling of this whole issue. Never again. read more

I walked into Chapman Auto Repair already annoyed and impatient, convinced the process was taking longer than it should. I had talked to a few other mechanics before coming here, each with different opinions, and I was trying to price match while putting off the repairs--only for my vehicle to get worse over time. So yes, I showed up frustrated.But Chapman turned my whole experience around. They truly handled me with care, kept me informed every step of the way, and made everything as comfortable as possible. The office environment was cool and welcoming while I waited, and they even offered transportation if I needed to leave. By the time everything was finished, I was completely grateful instead of irritated. From the fair straight forward pricing to the quality of the labor to the final result--Chapman is remarkable. I was referred to Chapman Auto Repair by a close friend who told me upfront, " it might seem a-little pricey at first glance, but you can find cheap labor anywhere.....or you can pay for quality and a peace of mind." I appreciated the honesty, but I'll admit I was still a bit skeptical going in. I've had mixed experiences with shops in the past, so I tend to keep my expectations realistic. That said, Chapman genuinely delivered. From the start, the staff was proffessional, clear in their communication , and fair of my time. I had some necessary work done on my vehicle , and while it wasn't a small job they did keep me informed every step of the way. They got me a rental which aided while work was being done.( something I did not expect but greatly appreciated) When I picked up my car everything was running smoother, they even cleaned it for me! I was very impressed by the service and honesty of Chapman Auto Repair. We went to Chapman for a second opinion after Volkswagen told us we needed a new engine for my daughters Jetta which was going to cost over $12000. The car only had 83k miles on it and never should have had engine problems like they said we had. Alex was the advisor who helped us along with the mechanics and they advised us that we most likely did not need a new engine and that the car could run for thousands of miles more. They didn't even charge us for a diagnostic check. We decided to sell the car after Carmax did their own diagnostic check and offered to buy the car. This was my first time personally bringing in our Jeep into Chapman Auto Repair. My husband usually handles it and always speaks highly of their work. From the moment I arrived, the front office was clear, direct, and even offered me a rental while the Jeep was being worked on. The shop was clean and organized, which immediately gave me confidence in their professionalism. The Jeep needed quite a bit of attention; a brake pad and rotor replacement, an oil leak repair, and new spark plugs. All of it was diagnosed and completed within the same day. I do most of the work on my cars myself , sort of grew up around engines. You can say I've been wrenching since I was a teenager but I needed a smog certification and an oil chang, and I figured I'd give them a shot. I was referred to Chapman Auto Repair by a buddy of mine, and honestly I'm glad I listened. Not only did they knock it out quickly,but they also found a couple of other things I had missed. I appreciated that they explained everything clearly without trying to sell me parts I didn't need. Pricing was straightforward and all work was done right the first time. Brought my car into Chapman Auto Repair, it's a high end build and honestly fixing cars isn't something I stress over. I've got the budget, but I still expect premium service for premium machines. Initially thought I was dealing with a basic ac unit failure, but after a full diagnostic ( which I absolutely recommend doing) , they found the issue went deeper. A failing blend door actuator and a refrigerant pressure sensor throwing off the whole system. Could it have been cheaper? Sure. Did I care? Not really, because I knew I was getting sharp diagnostics, real mechanical skill, and no guess work. Shoutout to the Chapman team! Great communication, top tier service, and respect for my time. I've ought to say, best auto repair shop ive ever been to. First of all my friends and i were on our way to the outlets of orange and suddenly my friends car started making a weird sound under the bumber after a dip.We immediately looked for an auto repair shop and we came across two other shops before chapman auto repair. The two prior shops said itd take about a day for them to be able to do it when it was only one small bolt that fell off but was a risk upon us in the car. When we approached chapman auto repair shop a man immediately came out the door greeted and rushed to help us with whatever we needed. He sat us in the office lobby, offered us beverages and magazines while we waited for them to do what they do best. I recommend this shop to anyone and everyone. read more

My friend recommended me to Chapman Auto Repair, I called before coming make sure they have time to check out my car, need an oil change and some other small repairs, I was taking a trip with family and I wanted to make sure car was in good condition, they make time for me same day.. understanding my situation and concerns. BUT.. I wasn't available to make it on the appointment scheduled, show up two days later with out notice, they new who I was and reason why I was taking my car, I just couldn't believe it!! The staff was super friendly, clean place, they had fresh pop corn, water and soda. For customers. They did a fantastic job. And not only that they wash my car for FREE!!
