I'm from Hawaii and now living in Iowa of all places. I never thought I'd be able to find such onolicious grinds out here, but it's been worth the drive from Iowa City just to get a taste of home and we plan to keep coming back. Excellent food, friendly service, and the ambiance feels like a lot of Hawaii diners down to the bottles of Aloha Shoyu on the table and the local jams on the speakers. I was really happy to be listening to Kolohe Kai and eating actual poke despite the snow on the ground outside. This has been one of the few places in the Midwest where I can get ACTUAL poke (Bobby's words, "I try to make um like Foodland"), and not whatever weird Chipotle-bowl situation the mainland seems to think poke is. Just go. Unique take on pulled pork sandwich that was delicious, good value, and local. There is nothing quite like it anywhere around. It is a hole in the wall type place, very busy when we were there. Trust all the vehicles. Ask what people usually get and go with it-despite the fact you think you don't want all that. There is a reason you have to wait to eat here when the surrounding restaurants have plenty of empty tables. read more

A hole in the wall joint filled with treasure! I just moved to CF last week and have been scouting for good food. I spent over 10 years in Hawaii and saw Bobby Q's yelp before I even saw Cedar Falls. Bobby did not disappoint. He is definitely above L&L BBQ on the islands...with the same menu. First visit was tough to choose. I wanted chicken katsu but it wasn't on the menu that day so loco moco and 3 spam musubi were the choice. More flavor than L&L and the musubi sauce was perfect! I went back today and chose the beef kalbi. Again, so flavorful and his mac salad and rice are top notch. Hawaiian music in the background made it taste even better. :-). Look, this place will have you missing Hawaii if you have ever been. This is my second visit, and the goal is to try something new on the meun. The first time I had the Beef Kalbi, it's was good and well season. I just didn't care for how fatty the beef was, and I wanted more beef less fat. This go around. I tired the Guava Chicken, and yall, it's so tasty, I love how the meal comes with side of rice and a hawaiian macaroni salad and slaw. If you haven't had spam musubi, try at least once! I have been to so many places in the Cedar Valley Area and let me tell you, this place doesn't just have the best food I've had at great portions! The chicken wings were cooked to perfection, crispy outside and falling apart on the inside! Just made our first stop yesterday and we will be returning so many more times. After moving from Hawaii to Iowa thinking we wouldn't have Hawaiian food again until we go back to visit was I wrong. I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and this, by far, is the closest I have been to being back in the islands and enjoying my favorite Hawaiian dishes. To start I had the loco-moco which is a wonderful way to get a flavorful all in one meal. Two eggs and instead of the hamburger patty, I got spam over rice with brown gravy. The side of Mac Sal (Hawaiian slang for macaroni salad) was better than 80% of the Mac sal I had while living in Hawaii. As someone whose favorite cuisine in the world so happens to be Hawaiian and most islander cuisine, this was exactly what I needed on a not so great day to make it amazing! Let me tell you, everything about this place hit the spot!! Food? Incredible. Service? Unparalleled! Vibe? Couldn't be more chill! I walked in and was immediately greeted by a small, cool, chill restaurant with gentle Hawaiian/islander music playing softly over the speakers. Along with an "aloha" and two kind men willing to answer any questions I might have. They were super kind, and got right to work! The price was quite reasonable for the portion of food given to me, and my meal came with a 20 oz. Fountain soda! Getting the meal itself took maybe 10/15 minutes, so not bad of a wait at all! Now the food itself was literally incredible. I got the pulled pork and cabbage and let me tell you... It was DELICIOUS. Juicy, fresh cabbage and tender, delicious pulled pork with macaroni salad and rice... literally heaven on a plate! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. This weekend they have their pho special, only the second time as far as I'm aware. Both times I've gotten the combination pho and it is excellent. It had short rib, eye round, meatballs, brisket, and tendon. Tendon is my absolute favorite in pho and it was the perfect gelatinous texture. The short rib was also perfect today, tender and fall off the bone, but not at all over cooked. They have the BEST macaroni salad. The noodles are always cooked perfectly and their rice is also ALWAYS perfectly cooked. The Spam musubi is currently my favorite guilty pleasure, so simple yet so good. Both versions of the loco moco are delicious and incredibly filling. The chicken is always tender and juicy, haven't had a bad piece yet. So for the one complaint I have is that if you get the cabbage pork or the poke, the portions are smaller compared to the others. They are also delicious, but may not be the best option if you're looking to be completely full. Obviously pork and high quality tuna cost more than other ingredients so it makes sense, just a very minor thing. All in all, can't recommend this place enough. We've had it about a dozen times and every time it was great. read more

Wow! What an incredible restaurant!! Friendly staff, fantastic service, mouthwatering Hawaiian BBQ!! We came with our friends from out of town and would become regulars if we were closer. We all had the Beef Kalabi and it was seasoned perfectly. Sometimes these places put way too much sugar in their marinade or sauces, but Bobby's is perfect. You can actually taste the beef.
