This is my favorite breakfast place. Real, home cooked good food, in a pub setting. It gets crowded on the weekends but it's worth your wait. They have a good selection, there's something for everyone, and they don't mind a special adjustment, within reason. You'll see Bobbie bringing out food or bussing tables. From the exterior you might wonder why you are giving it a try, and then to enter you walk right through the bar to get to the dining area, but once you are served you will appreciate it! I'm new to the area and decided to check out this place. Very cute & kind of hidden behind the Fratellos. I ordered Bobby's burger with an order of cheeseballs and my sister ordered the same burger with fries. Keep in mind, the pickup orders also cost an addition 25¢ which is no problem for some tasty food! The fries by the way are very good! The only reason why I give it 3 stars is because of the staff. I simply asked a question and the server responded in a very rude matter. Not sure if I will be coming back if I am not being treated well. read more

We frequently come for the chicken dinner specials on Tuesday and Sat. nights. The food is excellent with lots of flexibility in ordering, and it's a great value as well. The service is always really friendly and excellent as well. The place may not look like much but it's a fine place to eat. AYCE fish fry- service was bad. After waiting a long time to be seated we, then 30 minutes later still no waitress. Walked out. We actually had visited this place once before for a fish fry and ended up leaving because we couldn't get a second serving of fish after waiting 30 minutes that time but we gave it another try and the second time was worse. What can I say? Just go to Bobby's!... you won't be disappointed! I would say the fish fry is the bee's knees, which it most certainly is, but everyone says that (and rightfully so...in this humble diner's opinion it's just about the best fry south of Wisconsin!)...but it's more than that. Haven't had one bad meal. Everything is delicious, the staff/family couldn't be kinder or more welcoming, and you'll assuredly leave most pleased. As an added ancillary bonus, in the last year or so they have an amazing stained glass artist who sells window hanger pieces on consignment at GREAT prices! Check out the windows next time you're in there for a great find, or two! We've gifted a few pieces to family and friends this year and each has been more than happy. Make no mistake this is a DIVE BAR. I guess the thing to do is order breakfast based on the reviews. Lunch was so-so. I ordered the skirt steak sandwich with onions, mushrooms and cheese. Was advertised in menu as 10 oz steak - came out and while I allow for shrinkage in cooking what I received was maybe 4 ounces - very thin and barely covered half my bun. The cheese was virtually non-existent. My biggest issue is with claustrophobia - it is sooo squishy in here. Barely room to squeeze between the bar stools and the booths. I found it funny that my soft drink cost almost as much as my husband's beer (only 75 cents difference). The staff (seemed like a family with teens) are very nice but the kids are not knowledgable about what beers are on hand/tap. I wont be coming back. read more

We've always heard great things about this place so we stopped in for breakfast. The restaurant area is very small, there was a wait to be seated, but no one taking names, everyone just stood in line until they came to get the next table. We got talked into sitting at the bar due to the wait but then after we were seated it seems we were forgotten. I finally flagged someone down and we put in our order. The food was quite good. I had the Country Benedict and my bf had French Toast. We enjoyed the meal but the staff never came back to check on us. No drink refills and we again had to flag someone down and ask for the check. The food was worthwhile, but good service is important to me. This place needs a bit more effort there... read more

Came in on a Wednesday with a buddy for the fish fry. Tried every flavor and it was great (my favorite was the beer batter) and it also came with potato soup and cheese fries. We sat at the bar and the waitress Kelly did a great job! We also got a few drinks from the other bartender Hannah and she was very nice. Awesome customer service and outstanding food. I hear the breakfast here is also very good, I will be back to try it. Will be back again next week 5/5 stars. read more

I came here unsure of what the quality of food and service would be like, but i was in for a grand awakening when i tried the Friday night fish fry! it's unlike any other fish fry i've tried and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming! I definitely recommend going here and i for sure will be visiting again! the only downside to the restaurant is that it is very small and the aisles are tight so it is not quite fit for claustrophobic people. read more

This place is nothing more than a dive bar. We went in for lunch, it was so dirty and dark. No one greeted us, we just choose a table and waited. A young bartender waited on us, she was sweet. We ordered 2 italian beefs, fries and cokes. The beefs were not good at all. The meat was gross, over cooked and no flavor. The bread tasted old and cold and the cheese was not good. Also the cups for the Coke were questionable as far as being clean. We were really disappointed in the place as a whole. We will never go again nor will we recommend it to anyone. read more

Wow, I remember coming here as a kid and had great memories. Unfortunately, my return visit was a horrible experience. There were only two of us in our group, but 2 other groups that came in after we placed our order where done eating by the time our food came out. I had the chopped steak and eggs. What showed up was a burger patty on one plate and eggs and undercooked potatoes on another. The only bright spot was the raisin toast, which was sweet and delicious. My water glass smelled like a Bloody Mary. My wife ordered "nineties potatoes" supposed to be roasted vegetables and potatoes with white cheddar cheese, what showed up was pan fried basic omelet style vegetables (diced green peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli) on undercooked potatoes with a mix of cheese. Favorite breakfast place ever! We eat breakfast here almost every Sunday. Cannot count how many friends and family we have brought with us and they keep coming back even without us. Love the breakfast food, it's amazing. Specially the hobo casserole and the pancakes. Those pancakes are heavenly! The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate as well, all the staff is great. Our fav place for breakfast on the weekends. It's usually packed, so you might have to wait a bit, but it's well worth it. There's the regular menu and then the specialties of the day. Ohhh, so creative, and so good. This weekend there was a Western Benedict -- steak and spinach in place of the ham. My husband had a country pot pie -- chicken pot pie with scrambled eggs and bacon on top. He had to bring home half of it!! The 2-2-2-2 will fill up any starvin' marvin's. Have not had a bad meal and we've been coming here for a few years. We only go for breakfast, so can't speak to lunch/dinner, although we've vowed to try it sometime. I really like unmarked roadside dives frequented by locals, like this one. But the food, beyond the good slaw, dog, grilled cheese and tuna wrap, was hard for me to take. Way, way too greasy. And I have a thing against battering fries. I want to taste the potato, not the oil. The fried chicken was battered in a hard, oily shell that made it heavy as a rock. read more

THE BEST homemade chicken soup! We had the largest bowl i've ever seen! Flo-chelle was so welcoming and loveable! Delicious all you can eat beer battered chicken and homemade mashed potatoes. In a word: Oasis. If you're planning to pass through Volo for whatever reason or if you live in Wauconda / McHenry / Lakemoore, this should be a regular on your agenda. The food is mostly homemade, the fish is excellent and as many have pointed out, the corned beef excellent. The service is also A-1 with them offering to get you more with the AYCE fish. They also do themed nights where the specials are mexican or american or fish based. So where some places have 1 type of fish, they've got 5 or 6 preparations. The only thing holding them back is the interior. It's old and that can be charming, but a little effort in that department would make this the perfect joint. read more

Went here last Saturday and wasn't impressed. There was only a handful of tables to sit at and we had a group of 6. They took our orders and I asked for chicken without a bun. (Nothing too difficult)....I still wanted everything else that came with it...I got a plate of chicken breast that was tough, chewy, and just not good. I asked for the pickle and tomato that came with the dish to the waitress but she never got it for me after asking twice. My boyfriend ordered a beef sandwich and he didn't finish it because he stated that it had no flavor at all. Not a great place to actually sit down and have a meal. Service ruined the experience. Food was mediocre at best. I had French toast and O'brien potatoes they were good. Sat at the bar, not much seating available. Didn't get my drink refilled entire time I was there, nobody checked in on is after our food was delivered. Food was sitting under lamp for good 5 minutes before receiving it. read more
