We were in the neighborhood doing a delivery, and searched on our gps for restaurants nearby and this place popped up so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in there is a small waiting area which has a bulletin board, bubble gum machines, and a bench. When we entered the restaurant a lady greeted us right away and as she was taking us to our seat, so noticed a white board with specials on it. I was excited to see chicken and dumpling soup as one of the options. When I was looking over the menu I made sure to order something that included soup... however when I placed my order the soups we're not the same. Today was chicken with rice and French onion which are still great options so I chose the chicken with rice. When I received my soup there was a bread basket with crackers too. The rolls were warm and they were sealed shut which is nice because they were very fresh. I ordered the 1/2 Fried and Roasted Chicken with a Baked Potato and Coleslaw and rice pudding for dessert. The chicken was amazing! The breading was crispy and delicious. It had just the right amount of salt and it was juicy and cooked to perfection (I posted a picture of the drumstick meat) I am so happy I ordered this . My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash with eggs (hashed brown and toast) and loved every bite! The rice pudding is one of the best I have ever had! My husband and I split it and enjoyed every heaping spoonful! Our waitress was awesome she kept our glasses / mugs full at all times and checked in with us at least every 10 minutes. If you are in the area and are looking for a delicious, comfort food meal, do not hesitate to stop in and give this place a try! They even have a gambling machine area (which we love) The bathrooms were very clean, the woman's bathroom had a baby changing station too. read more

Service with a smile at Busy Bee. This spot is always packed but the staff makes you feel like you are the only one in the restaurant. I am greeted when I arrive, seated promptly, and drinks arrive within seconds. I like that I can get alcohol like a bloody Mary, orange juice or even a milk shake anytime. The menu is full of yummy options for a great value. The restaurant is clean and so are the bathrooms. Big plus! There is a large parking lot outside the restaurant with lots of parking so you never have to worry. Somehow it always works out that there is a space if needed. read more

First time here stopped him for a farmer steak sandwich. It fit the bill, it was served as it should be. It came with hashbrowns with onions came with a nice pickle coleslaw and a side soup of potato salad which was pretty good as well. 3rd time driving all the way there to be told "We are closing early". Love the restaurant but disappointed as to drive 30 mins and they are closing 30-45 minutes early is now a rethink for going there on a Saturday night! Ordered the 1/2 fried chicken and it was very good. Came with soup and dessert and everything tasted good. My wife had the French dip and she was also very happy with the meal. We had several meals (breakfast and lunch) at the Busy Bee while staying in Wonder Lake for a week. Busy Bee will never win any awards for décor. But once you get past that you can focus on the good service and good "All American" mom and pop restaurant food. I appreciated the fruit option with breakfast instead of hash browns. It was a small salad plate brimming with fresh fruit: slices of watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, and oranges -- plus apple wedges and half a banana. Sure beat the chunky fruit that tries to pass for fruit cup in most restaurants. I also liked the options for toast including raisin bread. DH being a potato fan always opted for hash browns which he gave high marks to. Service was good and we did not feel as if we were treated as out-of-towners although it was probably obvious we were. Although it is unlikely we will return to Wonder Lake, we would certainly stop by Busy Bee if we do. read more

Busy Bee is my FAVORITE place for breakfast. You know that moment a few minutes after you order when you wonder how long the food will take? Well before you can even think that thought your food is there. They are FAST. Perfect for that morning after a night of drinking. All their breakfast food is really great, especially their skillets. Half order of biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and a chocolate shake is my favorite thing to get. The country fried steak and french toast is good as well! I've never gotten anything off the lunch/dinner menu, so I can't rate that. Staff is friendly, and always willing to split the check. They take credit card too which is a plus! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I ordered the strip steak medium rare. When I received my order it was well done. I asked if they could please remake my order. Second time around they gave me a steak that was practically mooing back at me. When I explained to the server the manager came over and told me how the first one was correct. Needless to say I ate nothing at my visit. They didn't offer to make anything else and just walked away. Not to mention I had my two sons with me whom are 6 and under a year old. Tell me why the server was constantly setting plates with steak knives in front of my baby. She then proceeded to refill my coffee for me and instead of picking it up she moves it in front my my son and starts to pour it into the cup. Really enjoy this place for my needs. Always friendly staff. Not TOO friendly as to annoy or tip seek. Casual meet a friend for a coffee or hash out some catch up time over homemade soup. "Let's meet up at the BEE" Close by and take out menu for lazy days. It's not a mouth watering , I HAVE to have it now..or it would make for a 5. Of course I haven't had everything on the menu. Basically your standard greasy spoon, but very nice staff, quick service, and good prices. The location is fairly remote, but it's worth visiting if you're in Wonder Lake. The turkey club is pretty good and the soups are generally worth ordering. read more

well, I like to support small local businesses. But I've been there twice now, and I doubt if I return. The most recent visit really did it. I had the ribs and scallop special. the ribs were old and had been reheated umpteen times. I mean it's like they were dehydrated. and the sauce is too spicy. the scallops were really small I mean less than a half inch in diameter with breading. they smelled like rotten Seafood. all in all it was pretty revolting . and my previous visit I had breakfast which is been getting good reviews I had the eggs benedict and the Canadian bacon had a a very strong "off" flavor. So much so that I didn't eat it. so I'm thinking maybe they have a food storage problem I don't know. but I think that in the interests of my own good health I won't be back read more

Decent place. I went here for a late brunch after moving a bunch of furniture around and I found it to be fairly good, but not great. Have lived out on the west side of the Lake for 7 years, and every weekend we pass it, we always say that we should try it for breakfast some time. Well this past Sunday we did. The menu offers you anything you can dream of for breakfast, we had your typical eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, potatoes and toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon perfectly crisp, I loved the sausage links (they remind me of English Bangers), potatoes were nice with lots of crispy bits and the fruit plate substitute for potatoes (at no additional cost) was a meal in its self. Servers were freindly and efficient and the food was fast to arrive and the cost for 2 with drinks was 15 bucks! Now its not a fancy place, but its a clean and cared for diner. Great for breakfast, and I would definatly give it a go for lunch. read more

This was the worst experience that I have had at a restaurant. The organization within the restaurant is horrible. We did not get asked for drinks for 10 min and did not get asked for good for 20 min. I will not be coming anymore and unless they reorganize their staff I would highly recommend others to not come here. read more

My wife and I are always looking for new places for breakfast. While men don't ask directions, or get lost, we do get turned around sometimes. Recently I got turned around on my return trip to Cary from the McHenry County Courthouse, and happened upon Og Busy Bee. I never heard of it before, but vowed to investigate with the wife. Today we went there for breakfast. While not a stylishly elegant place, it is very bright and clean. The wait staff are there to serve, and do a great job. They are on the alert for empty plates and coffee cups needing a refill. The food was better than we expected. I had corned beef hash w/eggs, both cooked to perfection. I enjoyed a bowl of grits, too, I wish more places offered them. My wife had Chorizo & eggs. She requested it scrambled, and it arrived cooked to perfection, definitely in Mexican style, She was even given a choice of warm tortillas when making her choice of toast. The coffee was great, not too weak, not too strong. It's 20 miles from our house, but we'll be back! read more

The only bad thing is the menu is so extensive, it takes forever to chose BUT no matter what you decide on, you wont be disappointed. I had to give 5 stars because this place has an authentic country feel about it. It is located in a beautiful country setting just outside of the main Wonder Lake area. The staff is very friendly with "small town" charm. The prices are very reasonable (unlike the popular chain restaurants). The food is prepared perfectly. This has become my main breakfast "hide-a-way" that I like to show-off to out-of-town guests. read more
