HIGHLY RECOMMEND Yesterday I lunched with clients at The Vegas Café in Antioch; it had been some time since my previous visit. We arrived just as the luncheon hour was in full swing; however, the waitstaff seated us after only a few minutes and we were shown to a booth in the main dining room. The atmosphere is very lively and chatty; the restaurant appeared to be quite full but there was a wonderful 'warmth' about the place and the cooking smelled terrific. Our waitress brought menus immediately and took our drink orders; she was polite, courteous, and efficient. It was very clear our waitress was very busy; HOWEVER this did not in any way diminish her service and/or her attention. SHE WAS TERRIFIC. Our orders arrived VERY quickly and were hot and fresh; I ordered a chorizo skillet and it was delicious. The rye toast was loaded with butter and they brought freshly portioned fruit jelly for us, and not those horrible pr-packaged plastic globs. The waitress kept my coffee filled and my clients' drinks filled as well; she took very good care of us and never once made us feel rushed. Food is good. My favorite is chicken cream rice soup. I love their coffee. Service is always good. I was disappointed i ordered sirloin steak it was hard & not much seasoning. Even the knife can't cut it. I didn't let them know about the situation so, I ending up just eating my toast & eggs for meal. Ambiance is good. What a perfect stop on our way to Lake Geneva! Our server, Courtney, was so kind and helpful. The best ranch dressing and chicken tenders we've ever had! The chicken and dumpling soup was great, too. We came in for lunch with a group of five. They sat us immediately. I had a bacon avocado omelette, which was tasty but a little overcooked. Also had a cup of vegetable tortellini soup. They had several homemade soups to choose from. Everyone else's meals turned out well. Service was professional and attentive. I have been here twice to eat and ordered to go a few times. I've not had a bad experience. I'm a huge fan of the soups! I'm not a regular, where they know me by name or face. I am a fan though of the food, the decor and vibe. It's a place that you know there are regular customers who the staff know all about and vice versa. What a staple in Antioch. I stopped in for a bite with a buddy and was immediately greeted by the hostess. Smile from ear to ear sat me immediately. Before my butt got situated a server was on top of me with another great smile. She was quick to tell me she wasn't my server but would be happy to get me a beverage and my server would be by shortly. Jennifer our server and what a sweetheart Our food was out in no time. My sister and I grew up going here, back when it was open 24hrs, so many good memories. Came here for lunch on Father's Day as my dad is still a regular. After living outside the area it made me realize how important it is that they hire younger workers. Our waitress was super sweet and answered all questions. They had a variety of soups for the day (definitely one of the things they're known for) and I was incredibly happy one of them was GF! Not sure how I've been sleeping on this place. The ambiance and decor are good old diner style, but very clean and updated in a vintage sort of modern way. No, I can't explain it better, but their booths are in great condition! Service was fast and friendly and never overbearing or rushed, even on a busy Saturday morning. Hash browns are great, the fruit is fresh, and the coffee is good. We decided to come back for lunch the next week to do the soup test. Soup test totally passed! Stuffed cabbage tasted like deconstructed golabki and my Polish heart is happy. Cream of chicken and rice is the best comfort soup and they nailed it. Not too gloppy which is always a risk. The only mid thing here so far are the fries - just ok, but they aren't bad! New diner spot unlocked which easily replaces our old one elsewhere. read more

I'm not from Antioch, but a colleague's description of the Vegas Cafe lured me into making the 30-minute drive. Downtown Antioch is full of charm. Even so, the Vegas Cafe's curb appeal assured me that this breakfast destination was worth the drive. The website and reviews prepared me for 50s-style dining. What caught my attention immediately was the craftsmanship and quality of the decor, seating, and construction over all. Although I care about these things, this isn't where I typically start my reviews. What dining at Vegas made me realize is that most 50s diners use that era as an excuse to make things cheap. Vegas, however, is more of a classy Frank Sinatra diner than a red-and-white themed dive filled with greasers named Doody, Sonny, or Putzie. I loved how the look--from the molding to the movie posters to the paintings--invited closer inspection. Well crafted. Well done! The menu embodies those high class values, too. If you're looking for a shot of nostalgia, it's on Vegas's walls. You won't feel nostalgic while browsing their menu--and that's a GOOD THING. Frankly, Betty Crocker's industrialized food innovations that came out of the 1950s didn't make that era known for healthy or even quality meals. The menu at Vegas is filled with much better food options than I expected. I wouldn't call their choices particularly "fancy," but they're definitely not "cheap" either. I was very happy with my meal and its price. Finally, the service was stellar. We went for a Sunday brunch and the wait was 20 minutes. We were seated in 17. The servers were on top of things. I never felt rushed, even though the staff's kinetic energy definitely added to the happening vibe that I loved. read more

We go once a week for breakfast on the weekend. We arrived and walked in from the back door one if the hostesses came up to me and asked us if I could step up on to the elevated tables. I said Sureshe then asked to take my walker. I use a walker having had back surgery to assist in walking safely. As I started to explain to the younger hostess it collapses so I can have it tight to the table or wall. The manager came up and said she had someone trip in one once and would prefer that I let them move it away across to the front. I wasn't to keen I. That and I showed her then how slim it folds. Now I've eaten here many times and I have always folded it down with no problem. I understood it was on the main walkway. I tried to explain but was cut off I as uncomfortable letting them move it so far away in case off an emergency but my husband said we would to placate her. I felt I was a spectacle by then. I did not feel she was welcoming me and only saw me as an inconvenience. First bad experience there I felt I should say this because I know how others struggling with health issues do not want to be a burden or unwelcome. read more

Breakfast all day at a restaurant is always a win!! The Vegas Cafe did not disappoint. It was about noon when we arrived, but the smell of the kitchen going really gets you going. The eggs are real eggs, the wholeness and flavor is there. The potatoes and sausage were also wholesome and flavorful. I did request GF pancakes in lieu of toast and they happily obliged. After visiting this cafe a few more times and ordering different items I had to adjust my review. Previously, I mentioned good benedicts - this only applies to the avocado benedict, the rest...with the traditional hollandaise sauce, are a thing of nightmares. I was served a plate covered in stark white sauce...I have never had a worst hollandaise sauce. To this day, I cannot figure out how a sauce, typically made with egg yolks, came out looking lighter than biscuit gravy. Do not get anything with their hollandaise sauce. What I don't see mentioned a lot is their burgers! Their burgers are fantastic. The bourbon is my favorite with a bourbon sauce and bacon. Their chicken salad on toast is also quite good. A few other misses, to my disappointment - the soup, the cinnamon rolls, and the rolls. These may taste great when first made but I was served items that tasted like and had the texture of days old products that were well past their prime. I was able to try TVC with my friend and it really was great to see and try. Walking into the restaurant made me think About the early 90's when I was a me to go to similar ones with my dad. Came here for brunch on a Sunday and got a seat immediately. We ordered an omelette and California wrap, but of which were great. The wrap came with soup- they had a number of soups to choose from. She said it was one of the best places to eat in Antioch b/c it was affordable and had great food. And readers, she was right. Our food was delicious and the services was spectacular. The decor is worth noting, as well. It was so fun and colorful! There is parking on the downtown streets. It was easy to get in and out of. Excellent place for breakfast! I love the ham and cheese omelette with egg whites. I love the fruit option to make it a fully healthy meal. Definitely left feeling satisfied.
