This place has got everything!!!! We stopped her for a Sunday brunch after a visit to Volo Antiques. So glad we did. This was exactly what we were looking for: nothing fancy, great food, and a great vibe!! Bobby's was filled with regulars who knew the staff well and that's always a good sign. It was Sunday, so the Bears were on TV losing to the Lions. I don't know if it was Mr. Bobby himself who greeted us, but this fine gent was very meticulous in explaining every element of each special of the day. He had me at smoked pork chop. Damn that was great!! Best I ever had and exactly as promised. Knowing that sucking on the bone is acceptable in these parts, I had no qualms about doing it. My wife had one the biggest piles of eggs and hash I have ever seen. The service we experienced here was top notch!! On the way out, I got sucked into the "game room" where I turned $20 into $40. My wife and I trek down from Milwaukee about once or twice a year. I am already hungrily anticipating our next visit so I may enjoy another visit to Bobby's Barrel!! read more

We were looking for a breakfast place in Volo while waiting for the museum to open and this place didn't disappoint.its not much looking from the outside but the food was excellent.. we had ham off the bone ,my friend had egg pizza of some sort and it was amazing..the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Food portion was more than enough but we finished it all. The place was very clean. There's gaming too and a good size bar.. we will definitely come back for lunch next time and see what they offer.. read more

Should have known from the time we walked in the door The owner was behind the counter did not even address us, had to say good morning to get any kind of reaction. After standing there again for almost 10 min was asked if our name was on the list said no and they took our name waited about 15 min and was told we could sit at the bar I said no what about the table right there and kid said well I suppose I can clean it for you. Really? Sat down was given our drinks and no silverware and no one ever came back to take our order after another 15 min I placed a five on the table and we left. This place is a shitshow. read more

We have been visiting this restaurant for many years and will you not find better anywhere around the area. They have daily specials and give the public a nice selection in addition to their regular menu. The food is very tasty and the portions are very generous for the price. Great atmosphere and amazing food. I had a smoked bone-in pork chop that was like two inches thick cooked to perfection with a honey glaze, eggs and real old fashioned circle cut potatoes. The coffee is a little weak for my taste; however, their service, food quality and overall cleanliness outweighs the extremely small issue over a cup of joe. Besides, they are a complete restaurant with a full bar. So, we switched to bloody Mary's and they were tasty. We went for breakfast and I had the corned beef and eggs. The best thing was the corned beef was homemade. I like that they offer you a choice of potatoes with your breakfast, hash browns or American fries which are the sliced version cooked on the grill nice and crispy just like I like 'em. This place is a great dive, on the prairie! Every once in awhile, I head out to the prairie with someone who knows what's up. And this place is up. It was Friday, so I thought I'd take advantage of the Cod fish fry. And it's not because I worship some imaginary friend, I just loves me some fish! This was goooood. Fluffy filets with crunchy batter. The batter could have been the tiniest bit thinner, but the flavor was great. And the coleslaw was delicious too, not a throwaway side, this was tasty, tangy stuff and not drenched in mayonnaise. Curly fries come with the fish and they were hot, savory and tasty (and covered with cheese!). My companion had a burger, and it was delicious as well. Tasty and juicy and a good size. Not vulgar-huge so you sleep after lunch, but a nice size. The lunch counter/bar itself is great. Kitschy enough to be amusing and authentic enough to have character - this place has been here awhile. An oasis amidst the lame suburban strip malls and endless Walgreens. We always have a great experience when we stop by Bobby's Barrel Inn. The Bloody Marys are something else! We absolutely love their breakfasts, they are phenomenal and the specials are always changing. We were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to try out some of the first pizzas they made in their new pizza ovens and we were not disappointed! This place used to be great, but after today's experience I don't see any need to come back. It took forever to get service and when they did finally take our order, it took forever for the order to come. The wait staff seemed to spend their time chatting with customers more regular than my party. When breakfast did arrive four of the six people at my table we're missing parts of their order. The rest of breakfast wasn't delivered to the table until after one of us we're done eating. Two people in our party ordered coffee but we're only able to get one refill because no one came around with the coffee pot. Asking wasn't much help. My son asked for water three times before he was brought some. My nephew asked for it to-go box twice. The service was atrocious and the food, which used to be pretty good, is now nothing special. They have an all new menu that is not nearly as creative as the old one. Folks, this was a disappointment. I really liked this place only a few months ago but now I think I will explore a different option next time I'm in Wauconda. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention that my daughter-in-law ordered the 99 potatoes which are supposed to be vegetarian but she found several pieces of bacon in her breakfast. Everything is good, but my favorites are the fish fry Wednesdays & Fridays, their breakfast, and the broasted chicken Tuesdays & Saturdays. Everyone there is super cool, and it's reasonably priced. If I could leave zero stars I would. The service or lack of is Horrendous to say the least. When you walk into a restaurant and the owner himself is at the register worried more about receipts then customers standing in front of him (for 10 minutes) and doesn't even acknowledge them that should be the first clue how the place is run. Waiting for a table to open up is a normal thing in a restaurant in the morning but when one does and now another employee is at the same register worried more about receipts then customers on a waiting list to be seated is probable number 2. Finally when a third employee asks us if we want to sit at the bar and we ask if we could have the table that just opened he has the nerve to say that"I guess I will clean it for you". Gee thanks pal we are so sorry to put you out. When we do get seated we did get drinks but no silverware and waitress/waiter until 15 minutes later we walked out. This place is a complete Sh*tshow and I wouldn't recommend it if it was the last place on earth. read more

Bobby's is a step back in time but in a nice way. The food is a step above diner style and they go the extra mile to present an interesting menu. They go so far as offering raisin bread from a local bakery and it is wonderful. The servers are very nice and the owner stopped by our table several times to check on us. It could use a little tlc and a coat of paint outside, but the food is the strong point...and the slots. read more
