Haven't been into the cat for awhile, but I dropped off the MTB on Saturday, and had a great chat with Chuck about new bike technology. Bike was tuned up by Sunday, and completely cleaned. Yes the bike looks 150% better then when I dropped it off. I didn't ask them to do this, yet they took the time to not only bring the ride up to spec, but made it look like a pro again. I've never stepped foot in this store (I live in Oakland) but i have to give them a 5-star review anyway. I was riding up in the Berkeley hills this afternoon when I suffered a flat tire. I pulled over to the side of the road to fix it, and as I was about ready to pump air into the tire after changing the tube a van with "Bobcat Cycles" advertising on it pulled over. The fellow who came out of the van (I assume it was the owner) asked me if I needed any help or wanted to borrow a floor pump. I said "sure", but as I said this I pulled off the CO2 adapter from the tube and for some inexplicable reason the top portion of the valve stem sheared off as well. I was really hosed at this point because I was only carrying one tube. Anyway, in addition to offering me his pump "Mr. Bobcat" offered me not just one, but two spare tubes free of charge! I took one of them, but gave back the other since I was pretty close to home and thought I'd be safe getting back without another flat. He was a very friendly and generous guy. As I was fixing the flat we talked about some of the local cycling routes as well as the demise of some of the local bike shops in the area - turns out he grew up in the Bay Area. I ended up taking way too much time to get everything fixed, but he was very patient with me and wanted to make sure I was all set. If I ever happen to be in the Salinas area and need something bike-related I will be sure to go to Bobcat...great customer service! read more

my rear shock blew out the morning before my race at sea otter. i spoke with every shock manufacturer at the event and they didn't have anything for sale, come back to the hotel and call 7-8 local shops, none of them have a rear shock! argh... i was referred to bobcat by another shop, i call them and they have my part!!! made the drive out there and got the shock installed in and tuned in about 10 minutes. OMFG I WAS SOOOO STOKED! pricing on the shock was exactly how much i found it online too! these guys are great. read more

I had recently purchased a brand new mountain bike from Amazon when upon receiving the bike from shipping, I realized that the disc brake on the front wheel was very slightly bent and needed to be corrected. Bobcat Bicycles was the first place I went to see about fixing it. I had only brought in the front wheel to show the employees when I walked into the store. The first words out of the guy's mouth when took a look at the wheel was "You need to buy a better bike". I was taken aback a little and said to him "How would you know? I just *bought* this bike!" He hadn't even seen my bike and was already making judgement calls for customers!!!! He responded with "Where'd you get the bike?" I should have not said anything but instead said "Amazon". He then said "Yeah...you need to get a better bike". I left the store feeling betrayed, pissed, flustered and annoyed at the service I got from this @$$hole. I was very excited that I bought an adorable albeit slightly worn 1970's Peugeot at a record price on craigslist (don't judge) - then I hit a curb with the airless tires and the chain fell off. I walked the bicycle to the closest bike shop, Bobcat Bicycles, and it was repaired on the spot. I was sort of lost - unsure if the place was a retail or repair shop - and I discovered that it's both! Fantastic. Walked into store on a Sunday morning we were immediately greeted by a maybe ten year old. Possibly the owner or manager was helping another couple out. While waiting for out turn we asked the boy what the turn around service was for maintenance and his response "I dunno" finally after maybe 10-15 min the couple left and man immediately turned around and walked in the back behind counter not even acknowledging our presence or asking if we needed assistance or had any questions which by our obvious gazing at bikes I'm sure any business owner would see that as great potential for a sale. Bobcat Bicycles are the best! I took my electric bike in to have the rear flat tire fixed (no trvial task as the motor in attached to the rear wheel). They said they would have it fixed by the following day only to have them call me later that day to inform me it was already done. I was thrilled as I use the bike to get to work. AND their price was very reasonable. They helped me get the bike off and on my car. I watched them help other customers (including non-English speaking patrons) with honesty and politeness. This is th first time I have used their service but, my husband has been going there for years and always has good things to say about their service and knowledge. read more

THIS IS THE BEST BIKE SHOP EVER. Literally I love this shop so much. I came in 20 minutes before closing with a bent derailleur hanger and they fixed me right up. Everyone there was so nice, friendly and willing to help a fellow cyclist out. They even stayed open 5 minutes late for me. I took my son's bike in to have the rusty chain replaced and tuned up. We left the bike outside. They got it back in working condition and cleaned it all within the time they estimated. I recently moved to the Monterey area within the last year from Auburn area, and started to really mountain bike in the last year. Through that year, I have snapped a frame, and spent around $600 in repairs, and would have to say Bobcat is by far the best Cycle shop I have been to. What really sold me on this place is that I needed to get a frame replacement after I snapped mine, and the owner willingly and gladly helped me back on the trails within a week! Most places would have taken weeks to start the process, and would have done it with a terrible attitude. They are insanely fast when it comes to repair, and don't try to BS you into spending more than you should. I wish I knew more people down here to recommend them to! read more

They stock a comprehensive selection of bicycles (mountain, hybrid and road) from manufacturers such as Santa Cruz, Specialized and Trek, along with an asortment of frames from companies like Niner. Their selection of bicycles is extensive, so they are able to cater to individuals considering any number of price points, whether entry level, intermediate or high end. They also carry a full compliment of all the necessary clothing, gear and parts. What makes this store particularly unique are the people who work there. Bob, Chuck and Craig all eat, sleep and breath cycling. They have spent hours (literally) educating my wife and I on all aspects of mountain biking. Additionally, each of them posses the increasingly rare qualities of honesty and character. They have all been consistently informative, patient, professional and friendly. For example, they regularly facilitate a group ride for new, and intermediate, mountain bikers to familiarize them with the sport and the extensive trail system in the BLM area, which used to be Ft. Ord. They also perform "bike fits" at the shop to insure that you are comfortable on your new bike, and that you are riding efficiently. I started mountain biking about a year ago for health reasons. My knees have seen a lot of miles, so when I moved to clipless pedals it was bit of an adjustment. My knees began to hurt almost immediately, and the discomfort continued to progress, as I continued to ride. I received a bike fit at another location (other than Bobcat Bicycles), and although the pain in my knees seemed to subside for a brief time, it eventually returned and continued to get worse. I went to Bobcat Bicycles and spoke with Chuck about this issue. He patiently listened to my saga, and made some adjustments to my cleats that corrected the alignment of my legs on the bike. My knee pain vanished. My wife and I plan on being loyal customers for years to come. Bought a cruiser for my wife as a Christmas present a couple of years ago. I looked around at various shops, and even checked online. Bobcat had a very competitive price. (I don't know how some shops stay open these days considering their overhead). I went in and we agreed on a price for both the bike and a wicker basket. The color my wife preferred was still in the box. He said that he didn't think he would be able to put it together in time. I didn't mind. I thought it might be fun to try to build it with my wife, since she had never worked on bikes. I came back to pay, and the bike was assembled. I wish I could afford a locally made, hand built bike. Also, she won't be taking hers through any trials courses, or hammering it over the Santa Cruz Mountains, (not that she shouldn't try if she wanted). Still, she was very happy with her amazingly good quality, lightweight aluminum frame cruiser, that floats well as it glides. read more

I bought my bike from them about 10 years ago. Have had it serviced recently. Have taken my 4 year old in to look at bikes 6 months ago, and when we buy one for him this Christmas we will purchase from them. Their employees have always been helpful and friendly. Yes, maybe some bike snobbery, but I find that a lot of cyclists are snobs. And I get it, you don't want to ride a crappy bike from a big box store, when good bikes are so much better. Yes, you will pay decent money, but your bike will work properly and last a long time. And with Bobcat, you'll get people that care. read more

Excellent store! Ive been riding for a while and I've always wanted to make the transition to using clip on shoes for bicycling. Had a good talk with Bob and another employee and they explained everything about the shoes and pedals to me. They helped me choose the right shoes and pedals. At the time they did not have the pedals but they gladly let me borrow some of their pedals until their new shipment came in. What a bunch of great guys. I highly recommend and will send any new bike riders their way. If it was not for them i would have never made the transition in clip-less pedals. read more

i find it hard to believe that the reviews i read are from true customers. i wouldnt put it past me if the owner and or employees wrote the reviews themselves. ive given this bike shop several opportunities to prove my feelings wrong but this last time at the shop with the three older guys (bob ,chuck, and backwards cap) was the final draw. if your not buying expensive your no good to them, if you are new in the sport and have ?'s your no good to them, if you mention other store promotions or discounts, "get out". they are dry and not caring. ive recently shared my experices with a group of fifteen ryders, 10 stumpjumpers, 2 rockhoppers, and 3 santacruz, and they all had something negative to share. i hadnt expressed myself until then so i quickly realized it was well known. its simple, they need a store that can compete doesnt judge and is willing to keep us local. then they WILL realize things like the brokers and real estate agents who didnt care when the market was hot. now the will cater to you for a sale. bobcats is a terrible place to buy and even visit. join us in real reviews so we can be heard riders...... dont buy at bobcats maaaaaaaan!!!!!!!!!! read more

again, problems with my wheelchair, and these guys helped me right away, moving swiftly but surely, and even teaching me how to do it myself, how and why changing the camber is good, how to customize it all! they are so helpful, so informative and kind! i also bought some gloves with the most padding cuz i wear down gloves like no tomorrow. its not just Chuck, but Max and the other really tall guy are super polite and totally helpful. these guys are the greatest! read more
