This is an extremely college-town place, where I was basically the only one among diners or staff who appeared not to be an undergrad. I came with a particular need to get something that was both flavorful but not overly traumatizing for an ailing stomach. A miso ramen fit the bill nicely. While Japanese, the menu is vegetarian-friendly and offers ample customization. My ramen was tasty, but I did feel a bit shorted by getting only one marinated tofu sheet to finish off at the end. I needed some sushi to feel full, and fortunately, their inari with a seaweed salad filling were delicious, arguably more so than the ramen. A tea from their boba menu delivered some nice chia seeds and strong flavor, albeit with an aftertaste. I wouldn't say that my bar for ramen was reset, but as a regular driver along I-81, I felt good about having made this stop and wouldn't mind repeating it. read more

A lot of fun options, cute and cozy Japanese ambience, excellent prices, and fun drinks. We came here after a hike during their extended happy hour and partook in the $3 Korean corn dog and a make-your-own (alcoholic) drink for $5. I guess I should've known better, but the make your own drink was mediocre because the guava option was based off a not-so-yummy juice. So next I ordered a drink off their menu and it was just alright. Honestly, I'd just skip out on drinks next time, but it was New Year's Eve so.. I did try to ask our server for drink reccs but she was 20.. So, we really enjoyed our ramens. Even the veggie ramen that I ordered, with a clear broth, was quite tasty - I've had clear broth options that were less flavorful. We also ordered a few additional appetizers. We shared some bao buns which were excellent, my partner ordered some meat skewers and I ordered a salmon nori taco. All in all, a great little shop. So, after stopping at Vietopia for lunch, we needed some bubble tea. This was a lavender milk tea and it was so good! The lavender flavor was strong. The boba was fresh, soft, and perfect! They have a kiosk coming soon, but you just order this at the host stand. The host and barista were both sweet. The vibe is fun, chill, and a great place to get drinks and hangout! Went here for the first time with my girlfriend this evening. The atmosphere is nice with a cool Asian vibe. I ordered a beer and my girlfriend ordered a tea. Our food was delivered before the drinks. I had to ask about the drinks and was told they were "really backed up". The loud tea shaker machine was running non-stop so I guess they had a lot of take-out orders because the restaurant wasn't busy inside. I got the chicken curry ramen. It was missing the egg and the bamboo shoots were not good. Overall i felt the dish was lacking flavor. We also split a fried maki roll. My GF enjoyed that but it was too heavy on the sesame oil for me. She also enjoyed her pork bao sando. Staff was friendly but I asked for a fork for my ramen (im not good with chopsticks) but was never brought one and no one returned to the table until after we were finished so I struggled to eat. Amazing place in Harrisonburg. Food was tasty and fresh. We started by ordering 3 things off their happy hour menu. We had the Korean Corndog, Shumai and the Gyoza. All were really good and tasty. Can't beat $3-4. We also ordered a spicy Tuna nori taco. That was probably my favorite. It had spicy tuna, crab meat, avocado and some rice in it.. and I some yumyum sauce. Great mixture. Discovering they were a ramen house put Bobo on my radar, but once I saw Korean corn dogs on the menu I knew it was a must visit. At that point I had been on the search for this trending menu item for over a year and my little slice of Georgia just was not producing it. Also, it was cold! And anyone with any appreciation and/or exposure to quality ramen knows that is ramen season 101. Now I did have a moment of concern as I neared the restaurant as it is located in a strip mall. That type of location can go either way. But I immediately recognized that this city is home to JMU and finding any space is a stroke of luck so you take what you can get. And they have truly made the best of it. Once you enter the outside world disappears. I sat down at the booth and began strategizing. Which corndogs, what bowl of ramen, and most importantly how to tame the heat. The last step was to counter my request for extra spice in the bowl. I want that chili paste that creates a oily film across the surface and feels like fire to both your lips and tongue. Obviously, due to their name, I ordered a bobo tea. That condensed milk is a perfect counter. First up, that corndog revealed to me what I have been missing out on in life. I have since learned that there are quite a number of varieties and I want to try them all. Then the bowl arrived. I leaned over to inhale and I swear my nostril hairs were singed by the aroma. I took my photos then put my phone away. This bowl demanded my full attention. Soon the sniffles and sweating began. I was cautious with each sip of tea, it needed to last till the end. All I can say is perfection in a bowl. This exemplifies the difference between places that serve ramen and a actual ramen house. I will be back! read more

One thing I hate about Korean bbq is the smell. how I have to go home and take a shower and wash everything, simply because I enjoyed some bbq? This STONE bbq solves all that. They should improve the experience by giving thawed meat but not frozen meat, improve their sauce and this could be the next cool experience spot! They did have to change the stone that is of 400F as it cools down, it cant cook the meat anymore. Ramen was okay. 3. Service: 3 stars The owners are truly nice and cool. The servers are weird. I graduated from JMU five years ago and recently came back for a visit. I came across this restaurant on Yelp and had to check it out. Back in my JMU days, this location was a Tex mex restaurant I went to often. Walking in the new restaurant felt familiar and nostalgic, but it was intriguing to see how it's transformed into a Japanese inspired restaurant with its decor and menu options. Their menu had so many great things that it was hard to choose what to order because we wanted to try everything! We started with the crab nori taco. I love this unique concept and it tasted great! The spicy tonkotsu ramen was delicious as well and we paired it with Thai Milk Tea and Ube Milk Tea to balance out the spice. The Korean corn dog was pretty standard in my opinion. The pork belly was yummy and the bao was pillowy soft! Service was a little slow, but we came on a busy Saturday night. The servers were all very friendly. Pleased to find a decent ramen place in the burg. When we rolled up I wasn't sure what type of cuisine this was, given the sign and menu choices (boba, Korean hot dogs, ramen). The decor is Japanese with a mostly Japanese inspired menu. We visited as a family of 4 and each got the same spicy tonkotsu ramen and tried the pork buns and spicy salmon nori taco. The ramen portion looked smaller than we're used to but was filling for a normal eater. Teen boys definitely needed more food so I'm glad we tried the other items. The eggs in the ramen had a spice added that I really loved, maybe Chinese 5 spice? A little different than the traditional Japanese ajitsuke tamago. 3 out of 4 enjoyed the nori taco. I didn't get to try the pork bun but my son enjoyed it. Tried both fruit tea boba (not my preference) and wintermelon milk tea boba which was very good. Our server was the sweetest. I typically steer clear of boba drinks from restaurants because I've always been disappointed. They just don't measure to places who specialize in it. But Kung Fu Tea didn't have their Cocoa Cream WoW milk drink I was looking for, and Bobo Café had it. So I decided to give their Brown Sugar crème drink a shot. I was pleasantly surprised! The bubbles especially were surprisingly good; super chewy and delicious. My boyfriend even thought theirs was better than Kung Fu Teas (not QUITE sure I would say that though) but it's super good. This is really great Asian spot for the Harrisonburg area! The ishiyaki was a super cool experience and we got the experience for one which was a pretty generous portion and could be split with two people. I love how it comes with three different types of sauces and you get to cook the meat on hot stone. I like it also came with lettuce and cucumbers to add to the wrap. The pork katsu was delicious! It was the right crispiness and had a yummy sauce. I really liked the spicy salmon tacos and they were a pretty big size! The boba was also great and there are lots of options. This place has quickly become my favorite restaurant in town. The ramen is seriously the best comfort food you could ask for. Anytime I'm having a rough day or week, the first thing I do is turn to my fiancé and ask if we can come to Bobo Café for dinner. I'm so thankful this place exists, it's like a salve for my soul. If you haven't been here yet -- what are you waiting for!? The tonkotsu ramen, the curry ramen, the vegetarian shoyu ramen are our favorites, though the miso ramen is delicious too! We like to ask for a little container of chili oil on the side so that we can add just the perfect amount of spice for each of us. My fiancé is vegetarian, and loves to get the vegetarian ramen with extra seasoned egg for more protein, and he really likes the vegetarian nori taco as well. The harumaki (vegetarian spring rolls) as well as the vegetarian golden bags are also a tasty treat. We still have yet to try the atsuage (fried tofu.) I am a huge fan of salmon sushi/sashimi, and find myself regularly craving the spicy salmon taco. I LOVE how crunchy the taco shell is, and the spicy mayo on top is just *chef's kiss* The tacos and the golden bags are a great snack if you are craving sushi. I keep meaning to try the donburi, but almost every time we come here I am craving the ramen, so we still haven't tried it yet. We have tried a number of boba drinks, and we like them, but they tend to be too sweet for either of us, so we've enjoyed them the most when we are able to get them with as little sugar as possible. The hot ginger milk tea is a great comfort drink on a cold day. The pearls and the popping boba are both very tasty. I've tried about half of the meat-based appetizers, here are my thoughts on each: The shumai (fried shrimp dumplings) are my absolute favorite. They are tender and flavorful. The dumpling sauce goes so perfectly with them, I savor every bite of these and order some about 70% of the time I am here. The takoyaki - oh man, these were amazing in so many ways. The texture was fantastic. There was one flavor in here that I didn't personally like (no idea what it was) so I probably won't get them again. But I think that's just a personal preference -- everything else about these was phenomenal and I still ate them all anyway. The Korean corn dog is amazing! Such an unexpected combination of flavors. This thing is bursting at the seams with gooey cheese (if you don't like a lot of cheese, this might not be the appetizer for you) and the yum yum sauce makes it. The whole thing is very soft and melts in your mouth. I like it a lot better than a regular corn dog, personally. The gyoza are very tasty, and the dumpling sauce is perfect. The popcorn chicken is probably my least favorite thing that I've tried here. It's not bad, necessarily, it just didn't do it for me. I feel like the fried coating needs a little something -- a different cooking oil or batter mixture maybe, or some added seasoning to really give it a pop of flavor. It's not bad, but just not as much of a wow for me as so many other menu items here. The crab rangoon is exactly what you want when you are craving cream cheese and chili sauce - crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside, and that tangy sweet sauce is just the perfect combo. We love this place!!! Please check it out and bring some friends -- we really hope Bobo Café sticks around for a loooooong time, because we are completely hooked. read more

It came with a fried egg and not a seasoned egg like it said on the menu, which I thought was supposed to be jammy hard boiled egg, but maybe I misunderstood the menu. The food was awesome!!!! I ate before taking a picture but I got the spicy salmon taco which I've heard is good and it was!!!! As well as the tonksatsu soup. It was spicy my lips are still plump and red even after a couple hours haha! So delicious! I ordered to go because I was starving and the service was very fast and the spot has a really good chill ambiance. Very close to me too and really good food will definitely be going again.
