Their fresh crusty breads and obscure stinky cheeses make me drool. I would eat both all day long if I could. The pricing on the cheeses is way out there. Like $24 bucks a pound. But it's organic, locally produced in NJ, and made from raw, grass fed cows milk. The Schmierkase was my favorite followed by the Jean-Louis. Glorious stuff. We slapped some of their cheeses on their fresh cranberry walnut bread and had an impromptu picnic. Aside from breads and cheeses they also sell milk, beef, pork, and much more. If I lived closer to their farm I'd definitely shop there regularly. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until they return to a farmers market near me. Bobolink is amazing at what they do. For those city dwellers who only experience cheese coming from a deli fridge case, here is a working dairy not far from the beaten track where you can see the cows, take a tour of the dairy and bakery, and then buy the goods. We bought some cheddar and one of the rindy-musty cheeses. The cheddar was the favorite, being tangy and sharp, with crystal crunchy bits in it that reminded us of Dubliner cheddar. The dairy is easy to find, and once inside you won't be overwhelmed by indecision because the variety of products available is kept at a minimum. There's frozen grass-fed beef also available, and jars of nuts stored in honey. Without a tour, you can be in and out in less than 10 minutes, and if you're not sure of what cheese or bread to buy, samples are provided. Cheese prices seemed to be a flat rate of $25/pound, an acceptable price for artisanal and extremely local products. My friend and I were on a slow meandering roadtrip to Frenchtown on a sunny autumn afternoon. A pitstop here provided the basics for a picnic snack and extras to take home. Very enjoyable. read more

Great place to get crunchy crusty bread and fresh French cheese. We tried the cheese at a book release party. The book was called Small batch by Suzanne Cope. Her book was about small batch artisanal foods. So for her release she showcased local food purveyors. Bobolink dairy and bakeshop was one of vendors offering samples and talking about their food. I love meeting Jonathan White. He reminded me of Santa Claus- with a twinkle in his eye and the great sense of humor. Jonathan White clearly loved his craft. He was glowing as he explained his different cheeses and breads. I loved his Cave aged cheddar. I grew up in Vermont slicing sharp cheese off the block and nibbling on it, so his cheddar was right up my alley. My husband loved his Pinot Noir cured Baudolino. It was savory, slightly sweet and has a creamy texture. Delicious! And it made a perfect holiday gift. read more

You can't go wrong with any of Bobolink's Breads or Cheeses. They are all homemade with the love and attention that goes into all artisan products. The Duck Fat Roasted Ciabatta Bread is quite possibly the best bread I've ever had anywhere. The Cheese Ciabatta runs a close second. My newest obsession are the Cranberry Walnut Bread Sticks. If you like dark rye bread I highly suggest the Medieval Rye. Now, I have only bought the bread from the Farmer's Markets in North Jersey on the Weekends, but I recently discovered if you go to the store in West Milford on Wednesday it is freshly baked. It's is quite possible the best bread I've ever eaten hands down, bar none. read more

With a hankering for cheese, we headed off to Bobolink, as directed by the guy from Warwick Valley Winery. It's off the beaten path, but they make some SERIOUS bread and cheese. The woman (who must be Nina, from looking at their website) who helped us was a complete, absolute doll, cutting us sample after sample of their various breads and the two cheeses they had at the time (it was late in the day and it looked like they'd sold out of some). We tried the cave-aged cheddar and the Baudolino. Though each is exquisite, we went for a chunk of the Baudolino, similar to Brie, but literally blowing it out of the water. All of their cheese is made from raw milk (from grass-fed cows) aged for 60 days in accordance with the law. The Baudolino is made from cows who nibble on garlic too, and damn, can you taste that bite of garlic. Out of this world. The only thing better than Bobolink cheese is their cheese ON their bread made in their wood-fired oven with some wine from one of the Shawangunk wineries. HEAVEN! Bobolink can be found at area farmers' markets, including Union Square and Pleasantville. HIGHLY recommended. And if you can take a trip to the dairy, all the better. read more

This place is fantastic!!! There isn't any other place I've reviewed on Yelp that gives me the enthusiasm that Bobolink does. The cheese is absoutely out of this world; you will not find this level of quality served anywhere in NYC. Not only fresh from its unpasteurizied state, but also rich and innovative. Everything from table cheese to cheese spreads, without filter or wax. I mean, the mold is even still on there working on the cheese (and yes you can eat the mold). And all for about $20/lb. Wtf!! !&!@#^ that's awesome!!! Breads, though not as unique as the cheeses, are soft and interesting as well, particularly their onion/olive and duck fat breads. They also sell meats. It can't be beat when, a week ago, I am playing with a cute, fat pig chewing nuts, and the next week the pig is gone and the farm is advertising fresh nut fed pork. None of the fluff and pomp of designer farms a la Stone Barns, and product that (actually) far exceeds anything you'd find at Whole Foods. I am so glad I watched Anthony Bourdain's NJ episode. Note that this is a true working farm. It's dirty, it stinks, farm animals are all over the place. Chickens and ducks abound, and will run towards you out of curiousity and hide under your car to keep warm. I can just imagine people seeing Bourdain's episode coming here with fur coats expecting a Per Se experience. Don't do it. read more

My wife spent half an hour talking to the employees here about the bread and cheese making. They are very friendly and eager to share their knowledge. I took a farm tour and strongly recommend it. I felt like I was living in an engrossing documentary about grass fed cattle raising. The owner knows his science, nature, and history. He is animated, smart, and fascinating. A great way to spend a few hours on a weekend afternoon. The only suggestion I have for the tour is the people working in the store need to prep better for the deluge of customers that pour in after a tour. It was a real pain in the butt to have to fight for the attention of someone behind the counter in order to purchase their goods because they were so disorganized. On to their products: The cheese was delicious. But for all the fancy trappings of their wood oven, I had problems with the bread. The onion and olive bread was fantastic. Out of this world. But their other breads were really off. Not crusty enough, strange density, and out of a group of four gals who love cheese and bread, we threw out the cheese bread because we all thought it was pretty awful. read more

Awesome place for a day trip, close to other places to visit in the Easton area. Their bread/cheese/butter/pesto/pasta/meat--all out of this world (can you tell I'm a fan lol) You can bring the kids and (calm) pets to go on a tour of the farm where the cows graze. They offer tastings of their products (cheeses and breads). All made by hand, the breads don't ever kick up my gluten allergies and the butter/dairy never bothers my friends who have lactose issues. Anyone that has anything negative to say about this place needs to reevaluate why they use Yelp. Quality and quantity are two different things that determine cost... A dry-aged ribeye cost more than a London broil, does that make that deliciously succulent ribeye a ripoff? NO! It's just exponentially better in every way. The cheese and meats that come out of this place are crazy good. I've brought people from all over the state, the country, and the world to this place. Everyone of them has looked at me in disbelief after the first bite of the Amish Blue, or the frolic, or the ever stinky Endgame at how amazing those cheeses truely are. As far as their breads, have I had better? Yeah... Have I had better in New Jersey? Nope. They have an amazing variety of unique breads that will pair up perfectly with any meal... Jonathan and Nina White used to run a place called the Egg Farm dairy in Peekskill, NY, where they made some outstanding artisanal cheeses, butter, and other dairy products. I had a friend who worked there, who would often reek to the high heavens when I would pick him up after a day of cheese making. On the plus side, I was introduced to some amazing wild-ripened cheeses They now have their own dairy farm just over the New York border in Vernon NJ. There are a variety of bread and cheese making classes, and tours of the farm available. The market is open from Wednesday through Sunday, and Jonathan is also at the Union Square farmers market on Fridays. The cheeses range from mild to pretty strong and funky. You can sample all of the cheeses available at the market. The cave-ripened cheddar is wonderful, as is the ale washed Bobolink-Foret, and the Frolic. They also have some delicious rustic breads. My favorite is made with roasted garlic and duck fat. It has a very sweet garlic flavor that is not at all burnt or bitter tasting, as is sometimes the case with breads baked with garlic. Well worth a trip out to the country (or the farmers market, or www.cowsoutside.com). read more

True to life working dairy farm with a wood fired bread oven... Friendly and knowledgeable staff... and a few cheeses from raw milk. mmm. ..and to those who would rather see an antiseptically clean tile and stainless-steel work area have obviously never traveled outside the U.S.. Or perhaps have never observed how cheese is cured in caves... and that microbes in the air are what give it it's special character. It puts the camembert in camembert... I haven't seen anything that I would consider dirty, as one reviewer put it. I've purchased all kinds of things from Bobolink over the years, I'm lucky to live close by... I also believe strongly in shopping options, and supporting local and diversified farmers. I wish more places offered food straight from the farm. Grass fed, organic, fair trade etc.. Duck fat and garlic... I mean, come on... The bread is made like it's made in Europe, with lower gluten reactions... hard crusts and spongey craterous texture. I'm not rich, so I can't go often.. but I'm lucky to get to go when I do. read more

"take the starter out of the fridge" used to be the best message i could hope to receive on my answering machine. this meant that i should start making bread as soon as i got a chance because my friend managed to smuggle some cheese back from france. after his girlfriend had to move there for work, and he would visit her once a month and he would usually come back with some stinky and delicious cheese. being relentlessly curious, i researched why the cheese he would bring back from his trips was often better than much of the cheese that was readily available here. i learned that part of the reason was cheese was made from raw milk, not pasteurized, and that it didn't have to be aged 60 days before it was legal to sell like it is here. sadly, less than a year after his trips began, his girlfriend became homesick and moved back to brooklyn. i was happy for them, but sad for me, because while i could find good cheese here, i couldn't find anything quite so good as the cheese he used to bring back from his trips.. until this past weekend. we took a small trip to vernon, nj, because i had read good things about bobolink dairy. i read that all their cheeses were raw milk, and that they had artisanal bread from a wood-fired oven. and that even though they had to adhere to the law, that they aged their raw milk cheese at least 60 days, that i would not be disappointed. the store is on the farm itself, and we walked by some colorful chickens on the way in. the guy behind the counter was really nice and helpful, asking us if we had been there before, and offering us some samples when we said we hadn't. i loved their aged cheddar, it could easily go head to head with the cheddar from wisconsin that i thought was the best available. the baudolino cheese was nice too, strong, but not overpowering, and had a bit of a fruity edge. these were very good, but when i tasted their end game cheese, i was immediately transported back to the days when i would hear the words "get the starter out of the fridge" this was cheese so good it ought to be illegal. it's a seasonal cheese so i won't be able to get my fix year-round, but it will give me something to look forward to when it runs out. the bread is fantastic. before this, i hadn't ever tried bread from a wood-fired oven. we bought some rosemary bread, and a cheese ciabatta. as soon as i bit into it, i noticed how much more earthy bread from a wood-fired oven tasted. i didn't know that bread could taste like this. i'm going on and on here because, for me, this is the biggest find i have come across in *years*! sure, i find new places i enjoy going to on a semi-regular basis, but this place is something special. after going, i learned that they are at the union square greenmarket one day a week. i forget which day, but there's more information on their website, including information on cheesemaking classes, which seems like the next step from here... read more

My low star rating is more to compensate for the ridiculous amount of 5 star reviews. Did you get all your friends to get on yelp or what? The bread is really quite good and deserves about 4 stars. Baked fresh in an old wood-fired oven in so many lovely varieties. My problem here is the cheese. The flavors are good and the variety is nice but $25 a pound for all of them?????? Ridiculous. This is not New York. These are not imported European cheeses. I don't even pay that high a price for Reggiano. I will not pay $25 a pound for cheddar. Seriously need to rethink their pricing. Or just charge all the "weekenders" the exorbitant prices and let the locals pay an actual reasonable price. read more

I saw this charming little outlet on an old-school Anthony Bourdain episode. The cheeses interested me so much that I looked them up, and set aside a block of time go to the Union Square Greenmarket and buy some cheeses. So far, I've tried the Jean-Louis and Drumm cheeses, and the Garlic Duckfat Ciabatta, which is every bit as decadent as it sounds. For its price, although it's on the high end, I'd say that all these buys were absolutely worth it. I especially love the Drumm, which pairs nicely with quite a lot of what I eat - the pound I bought has a very complex and grassy flavor, and it's perfect for melting over a slice of bread when you want a snack more substantial than that random slice of American cheese. It also goes quite harmoniously with the duckfat ciabatta, which is a total meal in itself and is perfect to eat with Italian food. It's been too long since I ate the Jean-Louis for me to remember it perfectly, but I do remember enjoying a nice lemon flavor, and the other people who ate it with me have told me they've carved their own blocks of time to get a piece of this farm. It's true that it's definitely not cheap, and with a schedule as unpredictable as mine, it's quite vexing to literally have to plan to visit the few stalls and outlets where these items can be picked up. Really cool place in the middle of nowhere. After visiting some of the wineries in the area we stopped in to pick up some breads and cheeses. Everything we got is amazing. The girl behind the counter was so nice and friendly. I asked about this "cheese cave" she laughed and said yes....the "cheese cave" is our walk in fridge lol. Finally went to Bobolink on Sunday 9/18; not too far from me and I'm loving that! A working farm in a beautiful rustic setting. There is a farm store where the bread oven where you can sample their breads and cheeses with a very friendly staff person. She will review the breads and cheeses with you so you can figure out your favorites based on your tastes. The breads and cheeses: so amazing. If you are a cheese/bread person, come to the farm (or buy their cheeses/breads at one of the farmers markets they attend). On a nice day, sit outside with a bottle of wine (Alba Winery is not far from Bobolink and they have great wines), some of their cave aged cheddar, Frolic, Drum, and Baudolino cheeses and their duck fat and cheese ciabatta breads. You will not be disappointed. The breads average $4.50-$5.50 per loaf, and they are definitely worth it. You will savor the texture and flavor of the breads, and they are coming literally right out of the oven in front of you. The cheeses average $24/lb, so they are not cheap. But you are purchasing the best possible freshly made cheese you can buy in our area. Now I don't have to worry about heading to the Union Market in NYC for their breads/cheeses.
