Stopped in to celebrate the granddaughter's birthday while in the area and the manager and another waitress came to our table, gave us some delicious ice cream sundaes, sang Happy Birthday to the granddaughter and even gave her, her sundae for free. It may literally have been 40 years since I had a meal at a genuine Big Boy. Heading through town on 18 wheels with the wife and it was like traveling through time. Apparently the sense of taste has a great memory as everything I ordered tasted just like it did decades ago. We were there mid afternoon and got great service and hot food nicely presented. Very clean restrooms! It was great that they had a changing table for a baby, but it was very low to the ground. But thankful for it nonetheless. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it was absolutely delicious one of the best ones I've had! I like that they put the sauce on the side so I could dip the sandwich and put the amount I wanted on my sandwich. My husband ordered an omelette with hash browns and pancakes. He ordered it with no cheese because he's lactose intolerant, but when they FINALLY brought out the omelette, it had cheese in. Then it took almost 10 minutes to flag down our waitress and tell her it had cheese in it. They remade it, but it was so long after we had finished the rest of our food. My husband had coffee and about every two minutes, the waitress came by and asked if he wanted more. She came by about 6 times more even after he had stated that he didn't want any more coffee. read more

I was up in the UP for my birthday. Brunch was at Big Boy. I got so homesick for all the meals I've shared in these 54 years with my Grandparents, Great Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, nieces, my folks and my brothers. Not necessarily at this Big Boy, but for all the destination Big Boys we either met at to start a vacation, end a vacation or just sit and visit. I usually am the Slim Jim combo girl, however, they had the soup and salad bar !!! As if, the pandemic never happened. It was like a family reunion of dishes you only get once a year. How did I forget about the spicy tomato salad dressing? The breakfast bar was going and it was so charming to see a vintage coffee pot with warm syrup. Fresh frozen peas are always my favorite. The soups however were like Goldilocks and the 3 bears. The chicken soup tasted good but the noodles were soggy, the beef barley was thick with vegetables and beef and barley, it was too salty. At this point, our adorable big blue eyes waitress Skye, came to clean the table she picked up the soup looked at me and I said too salty. She said there is always cabbage soup...Just right. We also shared a chocolate malt and slim Jim. Unfortunately, the slim Jim was so thin and dry it looked like someone was standing on it before they realized it. 15 second rule. I was really excited to stop at Big Boy. I had never been to one before, but I love the Americana road trip vibes, so I decided to stop for breakfast. I can't speak to the burger menu, but this was a GOOD DINER breakfast. Simple, done right and hit the spot! Crispy bacon and fried potatoes with eggs over medium. Big Boy adventures in a MA* town in the U.P. of the state of MI - part 2 of 2 *MA = Manistique I completed what I had set out to do, that being visiting the 2 Big Boy restaurants in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was doable because they were both on the routing. While both of these restaurants are different from each other, the same good food and service is found at each one. The biggest difference at the Manistique location is that, from the parking lot, you are looking right at Lake Michigan. With its green mansard and old school interior, this Big Boy is a little dated but tidy and has lots of tables and booths to choose from. The restrooms are also clean. They also have the typical kitsch Big Boy souvenirs one can buy near the cash register. I ordered the classic double decker Big Boy burger combination. While I tried the soup at the other U.P. Big Boy, I had the salad here. I got it the way I always do - with bleu cheese dressing and a side of it in which to dip the french fries. The meal tasted just like it should have, meaning like it has at all the Big Boy restaurants I grew up with and loved. The standout at this Big Boy was the service. The woman who waited on me was very cordial. More people who wait on people's tables ought to be more like her. In the restaurant, I had two cups of coffee, with the prompt refill. Knowing that I would keep driving for quite a ways, she offered to fill up a take-out cup of coffee for the road, which I put in the console and sipped on. (A lot of caffeine works its magic but then, 3 or 4 hours later, as you're driving down 2 lane highways in B.F.E., you're thankful that it's pitch black outside and no one is around, if you catch my drift!) In wrapping it up, I took note of two other things. Both Big Boy restaurants in the U.P. are in places with French names. There are a lot of French names in the U.P. (and MI) as well as in adjacent Wisconsin. The other thing is that, instead of the traditional statue of Bob in his bib outside the restaurant, there is a statue of a moose donning that same bib! So, while everything else might be boilerplate, it's hard to forget a Big Boy restaurant with a moose in a bib outside its front door. read more

They have a breakfast buffet for about $15. The food was good, very friendly service! We were going to head to another local breakfast spot but it was in the different direction which we were driving so decided to try Big Boys. The photos on the ceiling tiles were cool. Disappointed. Ordered a slim jim and got a ham sandwich with 8 slices of ham stacked together with lettuce and tomato. No cheese. At first I thought the recipe had changed. When I asked the server, she confirmed I was not given the slim jim. The server offered to bring a slim jim but we were traveling and under a time constraint so i declined. She talked to the manager and the manager refused to give a credit because I had eaten most of it. Manager was very rude and unforgiving. We grew up in California & to see a Big Boy Restaurant was awesome!! Of course we called them Bob's Big Boy! I had the cheeseburger & fries & the bun was a brioche bun & so fresh! The burger was delicious & the fries crispy!! Hubby had the Fish & Chips & wasn't disappointed! Everything was great! The servers were attentive & as soon as someone got up the table was cleaned quickly & reset! Ok. Wow. The food was fine. Typical Big Boy fare. The server was very friendly. However, they only serve senior breakfast til 11 - a fact not clearly stated on their menu. So I ordered bigger portions of the same food and left 1/2 on the plate. It makes no sense! Apparently seniors don't eat after 11 am??? I wondered about senior lunches?? Could you get that after 11. If you serve breakfast all day, then why not senior breakfasts? The kicker was the bathroom. A very nice lady informed me that there was very little toilet paper in one stall...so obviously I used the other. (Which also had almost no paper. Ugh.) As I was washing my hands a guy came in, without a knock or a check, to change the roll. Now I'm really not a bathroom 'prude', but it was a bit disconcerting to have a guy come into a clearly marked women's bathroom without even announcing himself or checking for occupancy. Our server automatically asked if we wanted cream and sugar with our coffee. Jelly was automatically served with the regular toast; we didn't have to ask for it. My family of 4 came in for brunch. Everyone got their food except my very hangry 12 yr old son who ordered chicken and waffles and was told they forgot his food and it would be right out. 15 minutes later (after he had eaten half of MY food) my husband had to go to the kitchen to find out where it was. We were done eating by the time he got his food. Waitress never came back to check to see how everything was or I would have asked her for the butter and syrup for my pancakes that I never got or the toast that my husband didn't get. The oh-so-generous manager on duty gave us a whopping 20% off of my sons meal...a whole $2.49. Oh, and the manager never came to our table to talk to us about it. While leaving Manistique I had to stop here after seeing the Big Boy sign with the moose too. We stopped in for an early morning breakfast as we were leaving town that day with a long drive in store for us. They have a large, private parking lot that can accommodate campers and other large vehicles. At the bar area they had several computers that truckers and out-of-towners could pay to use the internet. We sat in a booth in the back by the breakfast buffet. We ended up ordering our meals I got the Belgium Waffle (that's right it is singular) as it was the size of the plate and covered with fresh strawberries. This was enough to hold me over. My girlfriend got a potato pancake scramble that had a bunch of veggies in it. Once you start the coffee it is unlimited and you can even get to-go cups so make sure you ask for that if you have some left. Overall, the service was decent and so was the food. Definitely would stop by for the fact that this chain was beloved by my grandma but I wouldn't stop back in just for the food. read more

Horrible. I won't come to this location ever again. I'll stick to Marquette. My SIL and I came while they weren't busy, they had several servers on and they decided that their time was better spent standing and talking to each other about marijuana instead of taking care of their customers needs. Our waitress was rude, food wasn't great, their menu says one thing and they serve another. I had the biscuits and gravy-biscuit was fine...gravy was Luke warm/cold. I live in Texas, but when I come to Manistique Michigan I have to go to big boys. Since I was little this big boys has always been my favorite. The service is always great. I love the awesome buffet and of course the desserts. It also has a awesome view of Lake Michigan!! So many memories there!! I remember playing in the wooden train and wooden four wheeler as a kid. Thinking it couldn't be terrible with a name like that, I ordered the "best cheeseburger on the planet." False advertising. It was smothered in mayo and mustard. Two bites in and I couldn't taste anything else. I had the waitress take it back. The soup and salad buffet looked robust, but just didn't taste that great. The ranch dressing was really... salty. And they left out what must've been last night's chicken, cold and still on the bone, so you could tear it off and add it to your salad. Came here with our family and the manager was so rude to us IMMEDIATELY when we sat down. After we sat down she came out and told us our tables couldn't have separate bills and we were fine with that. We had four tables and we respected their rules. After we ordered two of our older two kids got up and switched places after our waitress told them they could. They never even asked she just knew they had switched so we could all order for each families table. We were all right next to one another. Our tables food came first way before the other three tables so we finished first. I got our bill and went up to pay with my credit card and left our waitresses tip on our card. Finally our other families food came and their waitress had the child's food that was at our table. I told the other child to take their food. No big deal. But the waitress just looked around and said that's not my table so I'm not putting the food over there. That's fine. We never told her too. They were eating and all the sudden the manger comes out and says very rudely, "Who took that big boy?" We told her the food went to the table it was ordered from and then we moved it to another table and she got pissed at us and said well then that table will be billed for that food. We were in shock. It was not a big deal. After we all ate and my whole family then left the girl a $50 dollar tip on a $85 bill. Most of us were standing outside waiting for others to go to the bathroom. All the sudden the manger runs out of the building and gets right up in my sisters face and says, "I hear you have a problem with me?" We had told our waitress inside after she snapped at us that that was uncalled for and didn't understand why she came out and snapped at us. So whatever we were their to see family we haven't seen in years and didn't make a big deal about it until she approached us outside. After she rudely asked my sister about having a problem with her she then started accusing us of being disgruntle to her waitress. At this point we were shocked. She kept arguing with us and wouldn't let my sister get a word in. I got very pissed and stepped in and asked her why would we be disgruntle to a young girl our daughter age? We respected their rules and followed them. Ate and left. I told her you were the one being disgruntle to us and coming out yelling at us then approaching our family outside. She then accused us of not tipping her girls and if we weren't being so disgruntle then why were they in tears. OMG I was floored at this point. Accusing us of all these things that was not true. I finally said we are the customers here and this is uncalled for. She told me well the customers are NOT always right. WOW!! They are not always right SURE but in this case we did NOTHING to deserve the treatment we got. All of us were servers in our younger days And would never mistreat a server. Nor would one of my managers ever treat a customer as we were treated. Who comes running outside to yell at grown adults with their children. Our parents were in shock. We just Couldn't believe she was accusing us of not tipping after leaving a very generous tip and we tipped on top of that on our credit card. Whoever is the owner of this big boy needs to reevaluate their management because we have NEVER ever been treated like this by a person who should know better. Shame on her and shame on this place for allowing to have someone in charge of their business who treats customers like this for ABSOLUTELY no reason. This was so embarrassing. It has been decades since I got to visit a Big Boy Restaurant and when I saw it was an option all the others were cast aside, returning through Manistique from Mackinaw City. It was even better than I remembered. The Friday night buffet included fish, shrimp, chicken, and beef made me glad I had skipped lunch. Now I have another reason to look forward to passing through Manistique. Next time I have to get a burger and fries, though. read more

My husband took us to big boy since it's right next to our hotel we did expect some warm and nice food after our long drive here . Unfortunately Not impressive for both food and service of this restaurant, we had to wait for over 20 min to get chance to order , did not even served water from beginning...the waitress seemed very busy all around but just inefficient for the overall logistics .
