Brought my specialized enduro comp in to get a back rim spoke put in and the rim trued. They did a great job on the rim. I had some movement in the back shock and asked them to tighten it up, they said they did. I went to pick up my bike and there was still a little play in the back shock. I asked the guy who was helping me why there is still play in the rear shock, he responded " well it could be a number of things". There was no explanation from a shop tech as to what they tried to do to fix it and what could possibly be wrong. Now, I know they are not a specialized dealer, but I expect the techs are competent enough to fix any bike or at least tell me what they think was wrong with. Purchased a Felt VR40 from these guys 2 weeks ago. I noticed that my handlebars were loose and took it back. They replaced the part giving issues and it's running STRONG. These guys are knowledgeable and friendly. They work with you to get you back on the road fast. Highly recommend for purchases and services. The Tech that worked on my bike today was extremely knowledgeable as are all of the sales and service guys. He gave me knowledgeable information about my bike. H e didn't just quickly go through the derailleur adjustment I came in for, he treated my bike like it was his own. I brought my old bike in to get a tune-up before a half Ironman. It isn't much where bikes are concerned - an old 2009 Gary Fisher - but she's what I got and I wanted to make sure she was all up to speed before heading down to SoCal. My grandson's inexpensive bike from Walmart had a bent rim. The gentleman who helped us was able to repair the rim. He also recommended removing the front hand brake as he felt it wasn't a good idea for a six year old. He was very nice, interacted with my grandson and charged us $20.00. A wonderful experience. I called the shop to ask if they could true up the front wheel of my bike. They quoted me a price but told me that they probably wouldn't even charge me, stating they might be able to have it turned around within minutes, depending on how busy it was when I arrived. Needless to say, I was impressed right out of the gate. When I dropped it off the next day, they said it would be a few hours, and asked if I could come back later to pick it up. I returned later when they notified me that it was done, and they ended up charging me for the service (which I didn't have a problem with). As I was rolling my bike out of the shop, I noticed the front wheel was still very wobbly. I asked the guy about it, and he admitted that he couldn't get it straight. I thought it was odd that he charged me for a service that didn't fix the problem and that he wasn't forthright about the situation until I mentioned something, but I decided not to make a big deal out of it. However, after riding it home, I realized the wheel was just as bad as when I brought it to them in the first place, and the rotor was rubbing on the brakes pretty bad. I called the shop to ask if they would consider refunding my money, but the guy said there was nothing he could do about it. I then decided to email the management regarding my experience, but after 2 weeks and 2 separate emails, they still have not bothered to respond to me. Considering this is a small locally owned business, I would have hoped they would be more concerned with their customer experience. Clearly, they don't care about integrity nor quality service, and a small amount of money is more important to them than their reputation. read more

I have been here a few times now dealing with various odd problems. I have always found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. My questions have been answered openly and with the experience I wanted. I never come in and find the place empty (steady stream of customers) and normally there are plenty of staff. The mechanics have been very good about checking if I need some assistance and I have seen the same service provided to all who come in through the door. I have read some other reviews and don't know what happened but overall this is a great bike shop staffed with friendly, helpful, and very courteous people. They have a good selection of bikes of different manufacturers. And have been able to get me everything I wanted. I even had to have some parts custom ordered for a unique bike i had and they were very helpful and got exactly what I needed that I hadn't been able to get anywhere else. read more

This place has excellent customer service! I went to three other bike shops first, and it felt like I was walking into the "boys' club" (I'm a girl). I did not feel welcome, or treated seriously. But both times I've been to Bob's, the sales associates made me feel welcome, and I did not feel patronized when I spoke with them as I did at the other shops. Bryan helped find the right fit for me in a new road bike, and explained the whole fit process to me (I'm a newbie to the road bike, coming from years on a hard tail mountain bike). When I went back to pick up my bike (it had to be ordered), Mark made all the adjustments on the bike for me, and even helped me fit a new helmet. Boyfriend's bike had a bolt snap and the guys at Bob's replaced it with no questions asked. Andrew was kind enough to use a piece from another Kona on the sales floor so we wouldn't have to wait a week for them to special order the part. Bottom line is that the guys here go above and beyond to take care of their clients. They're incredibly knowledgeable about their inventory. The last time I was in I purchased some sweet new pedals for my bike and Andrew swapped them out for free. Not to mention he straightened out my front wheel because he noticed it was slightly off after I mentioned I'd been in a little accident a few months back. These guys are great, the whole team! Every time I would visit them for repairs with a couple of our bikes (17 year old son) Extremely helpful & knowledgeable with the line of products they sale and the products they don't. Bobs cycle stands behind the workmanship over and above the norm in what you would think would be the norm. Brought my sons bike to bobs, the bike was in need of a crank, bobs ordered the crank & installed the part, for some very odd reasons the crank failed. I took the bike back to them. Eric, i believe that was he's name ,look at the bike and identify the failure then took care of the failure right there replacing the failed part and another part at no charge, over and above what i originally paid for the parts and labor. My wife and I went on a ride today. About 8 miles in, her derailer stopped shifting. She managed to ride for 7 miles and we found Bobs. This place could have been like the place we stopped at earlier that said we would have to wait over an hour for any work to be done after spending $200 in their store. When we showed up at Bobs, it was obviously busy but they took her bike right in and not only fixed the derailer but also performed other work on the bike. Bobs clearly takes care of their customers and also shows that they care about the rider!!! They could have easily told us they were too busy, but didn't and got us back on the road. They spun it, said I don't need a true and charged me $10 for a 3 minute service. Not only does that impute a $200/hour service rate, that's terrible business. I brought my bike in to Bob's for repairs. I said I wasn't quite sure what was wrong with it, but it seemed to be riding a little rough. Without even hoisting it up or looking at it, the kid working there told me it would be $250 minimum to fix this bike and that it wasn't worth it, but I could leave the bike with him as a donation. I had my doubts this bearded hipster kid was at all interested in helping me repair my bike, instead he just kept bragging about how he fixes bikes somewhere in the downtown area. Condescending and rude, I didn't feel right just handing over a free bike to him. I said I'd think about it and walked over to River Rat across the street. The man there hoisted it up, examined it, & told me exactly what was wrong and was able to repair it for less than half of what the kid at Bob's said. It's a real shame, Bob's didn't used to be like that. I hadn't seen that particular hipster kid working there in the past, but I won't be back. read more

Man this place is foolish. I was given the owners personal email because I wasn't getting any answer from their website email. I am in a group of enthusiasts who are all looking into forming a team to participate in local races, and we all decided to purchase new road bicycles. I emailed the owner; we'll call him Hayne Will, he never answered. I wrote him three emails over about a month... and nothing. So, I took my business to another bicycle shop, where I found out a lot of interesting information about Bob's Cycle Center, and Mr. Will. Turns out, I am much better off in finding this other shop, they are knowledgeable, informative, and most importantly enthusiasts. These guys actually like to ride bicycles and not just sell closeouts which is a detriment to their own business model, very basic business fallacy. I used to frequent Bob's for the occasional tube, it seems as though they've gone through a lot of employees lately. No familiar faces left... I guess this is all a good sign to move on. It's interesting how one customer can give a 5 star review and another customer wishes there was something less than 1 star. Well, I'd be the customer with the less than 1 star review. All I can do is give my account of my experience at Bob's cycle center on Fair Oaks Blvd. It's simple. I asked if they could check my wheel (it was off my bike) for true. I assumed that whatever I was charged would be a reasonable fee or with luck maybe, even complimentary for good will. Well, no one gave me a clue until the wheel was given back to me five minutes and $25.00 later . Now, the way I figure it their hrly rate is $300.00 per hour. In most bike shops this would've been a goodwill gesture to keep me as a loyal customer. Well instead, the bike I would've bought from them will be bought from another bike shop and my experience will be shared with anyone that cares to listen. read more

I needed to get a rim straightened and it was agreed that I would get it straightened in 2-3 days upon leaving the shop. After about 4 days I gave multiple calls only to see that no one picked up because they were busy during this "pandemic". I had to drive there just to be told that they could not fix the rim. I just think for a business that does service they should have been on top of it and contacted me about the rim or just told me they couldn't do it from the beginning. Besides that bobs is a good all around bike shop with people who know there stuff. read more

I took my bike in to see what needed to be done. I was told I needed $300 worth of work done to my bike. It is a diamondback bike that is 18 years old. I thought wow I will have to check in to this. That's seems awful high for a tune up and some cables. Even having the wheels looked at. I didn't want to question too much since it is an old bike. I took the bike home and thought about it. Well I decided to get another opinion from another bike shop. They examined it and it only needed one cable a tune up and some minor adjustments. I didn't even pay $100 there. Sacramento Women Beware of this business. It was the second time I tired to purchase specific biking gear, women's size. Of course they only carry men's sizes. When I asked why they don't cater to women they guy behind the desk replied " we don't have enough space to put different colors there, pink or blue" I could not believe my ears that in this day and age such objectification and sexism towards women exists. I will never support this business and will tell all of my fellow cycling friends to stay clear of them as they have a hard time deciding between pink or blue...how about just plain color in women's size moron. Found Specialized bike that I wanted and their website listed them as a dealer, so I went in. I wasn't browsing, or shopping...I was BUYING. I walked in and was not greeted. I saw three people working in the shop and talking as we made eye contact. I walked over to the bike I wanted and pulled it out, credit card in hand. I stood there at the counter with a bike and money. Nobody moved nor looked at me. I am 100% sure they knew of my existance. I waited. I whistled. I tapped. They could give a crap. I put the bike back and walked out of the store. On my way out I said "have a good day" and they said the same...weird. So I went to Bicycles plus in Folsom and had great customer service. Kids decided they needed new bikes for spring and I needed new tires and tubes for my road bike so we thought we rolled to Bobs. 1 guy behind the counter helping a young lady, 2 guys in the repair area and us on the floor for 20 min. After nobody says as much as hello I stand at the counter for 5 min waiting for someone to say anything. Not a freakin peep one out of any of these 3. At this point I tell the kids put back the helmets and push the bike back in and lets go. My son drops his phone and now dude says Oh! Well at least they spoke one word before we left. I would not recommend anyone buy a bike from this place. They have individuals that have no knowledge on how to fit a person to a bike. Bought a bike 6 months ago...for $1100.00 only to find out it is to small for me. When I go to buy a bike, I expect the people selling it to me to be trustworthy and knowledgable about their products, since I had no knowledge at the time. Now that I have been seriously road biking for 6 months...I have come to realize this bike is too small and does not properly fit my body. I went to another bike shop....where the workers actually had the knowledge and experience in biking to help me. I ended up having to purchase a larger bike. Bottom line......if you are looking into getting into road biking...don't buy here....you will regret. Customer service is poor and so is the knowledge. read more

Very unhappy with lack of service and help received. Had them put a bike together for my niece.picked out a bell etc. the young woman with dark hair and pony tail was very rude and condescending. Picked it up later. took it out on the river trail, and a few miles in the bike wouldn't shift gears and the chain kept coming off. I took it back to Bob's and spoke with the guy who put it together and he said when he put it together there was a problem with the gears shifting between 5 and 6. When I asked why he didn't tell me when I picked it up, he said the girl that gave me the bike at pick up didn't know. That was important information that could have left my niece stranded! New to the area and new to road biking. Was just starting to get comfortable riding when I moved to the area. I have been needing to get my relatively new bike checked out/tuned up as it's been collecting dust in the garage and this sunshine has given me the motivation to do so. My boyfriend does not ride but suggested Bob's as he says the place has been there since the beginning of time. Someone else recommended REI in Folsom but I decided to go support the local place instead and I'm so glad I did! I was promptly greeted by Eileen who was working on some bike's in the back. She immediately approached me and made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. I explained my situation and being new to cycling she took time to briefly assess my bike and determine that it didn't need a full tune up so much as some air in the tires and some grease on the chain. She was even kind enough to show me some basic necessary features of my bike as well as explain to me everything she did and why. She was patient and answered all of my questions in addition to recommending some equipment I had inquired about. All in all, she was able to save me $65 and taught me a handful of invaluable information. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone and will be a returning customer for as long as I live in the area! read more

Staff is friendly and attentive and they don't try to push merchandise down your throat.
