I've never even held a gun, so needless to say when my Navy friend insisted he teach me to shoot...I was nervous. The staff I encountered were very friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel much more comfortable. They take safety really seriously, and the facility was cool. My only complaint was the wait time which was close to two hours when we went...but that's just because a lot of people wanted to shoot at that time. No biggie, I'd go back. read more

Bought my first gun from bobs. Staff was very knowledgeable and answered every question i had. With the purchase of a firearm they give you free range time. The range is nice for an indoor range. Great store and range. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. They usually have a good selection of ammunition on the second floor. The range is a little dated and cramped but that not a big deal if you can manage to go in the middle of the week before every one gets off work and LEO shoots for free. I was able to take my 14 year old brother shooting there without much hassle which was nice, I've been to other places where they seem to be a little leery of letting him shoot, sense I am not his parent. My only gripe is parking can be a hassle but that is to be expected in downtown Norfolk. read more

I have always had good service and a good selection of firearms and ammo. I've been to all of the other gun shops and ranges and there is not One that that gives perfect service or has a least one no it all on staff. The Glock center is now the Sig Center. The same individual runs it and he is exuberant and knowledgeable about both firearms. He may come across as a know it all and a bit blustery but I have watched him lead an inexperience shooter (meaning never having shot a gun) to a very appropriate selection. I fully recommend them. Knowing Yelp this review will probably end up on their hard to find not recommended back page reviews. They have a tendency to post mostly negatively reviews first and most often. read more

I had been back and forth with an online order with Beretta USA for approximately a month. On the "third" attempt, I was fed up and begain looking for another option. On Saturday, 10-24-15, I misread a Beretta USA search and ended up at Bob's Gun Shop. I explained my ordeal to Bob and he was willing to work with me on an exchange that would require me to pay a small dollar amount difference. As I was getting my credit card out of my pocket to pay Bob saw my retirement ID card from a local city and refused to take my money saying it was on him!! read more

Not a good FFL at all!!! If you are not buying a firearm from them, some associates treat you like crap. A little back history: until today, they were my primary place to have a firearm transferred to. I build guns and do not buy them, so I buy mostly accessories and ammo from them. When I do need a new receiver, I pay them to have it transferred. Normally, I will show up the morning of the arrival and they will get my package and conduct my paperwork and I come back later to pick the part up once I'm clear. Well, my part was delivered this morning and had been sitting there all day. I show up in the afternoon and tell them I'm here to do my paperwork. Well after waiting for the sales rep to finish texting, he asks me if they called me and I said no. He said I'll see if your part is here. He walked right by my package on the ground and said its still in the box. He said "we will call you when we open it." This is where my problem lies. Instead of opening it and handling my business, that they will be taking money in exchange for, he tells me to leave and they will get to it when they can. My questions are, why did the packages sit there all day without being opened and why do I have to wait until they are ready to open it? If I was buying a firearm, he would not have delayed in selling me said firearm and handling my paperwork. There are many times I have been there and the associates they used to have would open and inspect it and start the process. This is my last time going to Bobs. I have dealt with many of the poor changes that have taken place there but this level of complacency is it. This is why gun shops are going out of business and online sales and DIY smithing is becoming so popular. Save yourself heartache and go to Superior Pawn. I never liked Pawn Shops for firearms but at least they have their stuff more together than this "professional" gun store. read more

I went to the store with my friend who is a first time gun buyer and we looked at guns downstairs for a bit and the guy behind the desk was super helpful told us a bunch of stuff I didn't know and I've shot guns my whole life. We didn't find a gun that fit what my buddy wanted so we went upstairs so I could buy shotgun ammo and we start looking around at the ammo and the man upstairs comes up to us and ask us how old we are (both 20) and then tells us we need to leave the store and "we aren't selling ammo to people under 21 today" and I confusingly asked "not even shotgun ammo" and he said "no you need to leave". Not sure if I'm missing something but I've bought shotgun and rifle ammo approximately 10,000 times without ever having a problem. He didn't check our IDs he didn't say anything else besides telling us to leave, I've bought ammo from the the shop before! Though its a little bit of a drive for me, Bob's is certainly worth it. They have the best selection of reloading equipment in the area and the staff is relatively helpful, though I have to admit they can be distant sometimes. Overall; great selection and decent prices. A GOOD PLACE FOR BEGINNERS & WOMEN :D When I was looking for a starter gun my girlfriend steered me away from the 22 I was thinking of as I wanted protection and lived in a neighborhood in Northern VA that had really changed and I was not happy with the neighbors. I'm a 59 yr old female and at Bob's I was treated very professionally and beyond that warmly. I found the genatlemen at Bob's very helpful when I was here with my girlfriend who has been a gun owner for years. They showed me a 38 Smith and Wesson, put me through the basics (checked my residency etc with the state) and gave me a card for free range visits. I went to the range and couldn't seem to use the sight correctly. They young guy up there gave me all the time and attention I needed and made me feel welcome and supported. I left feeling confident. I used my card up and actually used a card full of times in Northern VA and took a gun safety course in Northern VA as well. Although the N.VA guys were nice it was Bob's that I have to thank for my good feelings and support. KUDOS, Thanks. read more

I typically do not buy any firearms from Bob's Gun Shop and as for the reason why I'll get to that in a moment, but this is about my first experience with them. The first firearm I purchases was a PPS-43c, a semi-automatic PPS-43 clone in a pistol configuration (disabled folding stock) imported from Radom, Poland by I.O. Inc. I purchased this pistol for $350 from Bud's Gun Shop and had it delivered to Bob's. It was on a business day, Tuesday if I recall, that the firearm arrived and I was called around four that it was in shop and ready for pick up. The problem? The actual gun shop in Bob's gun shop closes at 6 PM, which is rather early if you ask me as the rest of the store (the range and such) stays open until 10 PM. After calling them back later I found out that the Sig Sauer shop they have in the building could handle the transfer for me, and they did, quickly. I cannot remember the guy's name, but you're doing something right when I stay nearly half an hour longer just having a conversation with the guy behind the desk. For the obscure weapon I had ordered he seemed pretty knowledgeable about it as well. You might be wondering now why I don't buy from Bob's directly if my experience was so good? Well, that's simple. The don't stock a majority of firearm brands and types I like (I don't think I've seen a single un-sporterized AK in their shop) and what they do carry they MASSIVELY over-price. I've been looking to get a Taurus Model 66 revolver recently, the going price for which is generally $380-400. Bud's Gun Shop has it for $400, so does D & R arms in Chesapeake for roughly the same price last I checked. Gun Broker can have them for as little as $300 new. Bob's though? They want as much as $500 or more for this handgun which is then nearing the price of the S&W 686 it's based on! They're good for conducting transfers, Concealed Carry classes, and their range, but do not bother buying firearms from this place. It can all be had for cheaper elsewhere. read more

The staff is rude. Been there two times. Terrible both times. I went in to buy a cheap pistol and was told it was a piece of crap etc. they said it's not self defense. And then they went on to tell me to not argue with them over that when I asked if they would take a 22 bullet to the arm for 1,000. A store associate said "piece of crap" under his breath behind me. And they pointed out twice their job "isn't to sell me a gun." I would like the owner to know this, his employees don't care to sell your goods and consider them crap. If they are crap and they are too good for it, ok. Don't sell the crap and then berate your customers. It's a shame. Bobs is .5 miles from me. I will never set foot in there again. read more

It takes a LOT for me to leave a bad review!! Have visited this store several times. I wanted to give this place a chance and not base it on one bad visit. Purchased 2 guns here. Every time we have gone, for whatever reason, it hasn't been the greatest experience. The customer service is terrible. Most of the workers act like you are an inconvenience to them when asked a question. There is one worker I was going to ask if he has ever smiled. Looked absolutely miserable while helping us and the entire time we were there waiting on our background check to go through. We have used the range a few times. It's ok. Very small, has 5-6 lanes, I believe. WARNING!!! DO NOT go on the weekends to use the range! Guaranteed wait time of a few hours. We even bought a range membership and was told we could reserve a lane online. Went there to use the range today, there was a wait, so we asked if we could jump online and reserve for the next opening. We were told no, that we had to reserve 3 hours in advance of the time. WTF!? We were never told that when we got the membership. I worked customer service for years and this is customer service at it's worst. We won't waste our time or gas driving here again. I hate that we wasted the money on the membership. We have told anyone we know in the area to avoid this place. Go elsewhere, unless you want to come here and get horrendous customer service and long lines to get to use the range! read more

Until I went to Bob's Guns I always thought negative reviews were probably partly the reviewer but now I know this is not true. Went there ready to spend big and have an enjoyable time but like many many Bob's Guns reviewers I too had the misfortune of encountering the most obnoxious crass rude employees I've ever encountered anywhere. Worst shopping experience anywhere ever. I spoke to the manager regarding the obnoxious bitter jaded chip-on-the-shoulder young tall employee who tried to pick a fight with me. The Manager was accommodating and I still made my purchase but the damage was done. Would have spent more at Bob's but after being treated like some kind of terd I just wanted to get out if there. Superior Pawn & Gun is a much better store and the employees are actually nice to the customers. After my experience and seeing all the other negative reviews I'm surprised Bob's Guns is still in business. read more

Went to bobs on a Friday afternoon. Overwhelming packed with very minimal staff on hand to help. The one guy that did acknowledge us stated he was to busy with paperwork to help us out. Good selection of guns and pretty well laid out which is why I gave it an extra star than it deserves. Prices I thought were more on the average/expensive side. The lady working with the ammo in the basement was extremely rude. Won't be back. read more

Was at range. And the range officer came up and yelled that my gun was pointed in his direction. My father and daughter were there and said it wasn't. However even if it was the correct response would have been to come up to me and politely explain what I had done wrong and how to do correct tje behavior instead he yelled and grabbed the gun from my hand and in the process pointed it directly at his midsection. Now I'm an experienced gun user and the gun was unloaded and cleared however if it wasn't someone could have gotten seriously injured or even killed. He was extremely unsafe and in the process very unprofessional and rude. read more

Bobs Gun Shop in Norfolk would have to be my least favorite gun store in the Hampton Roads area. I found the workers behind the counter to be mostly unhelpful. Although I can deal with and overcome rude people if the prices are right, I would not all the prices at Bob's competitive. This store very much us supports the typical gun store stereotype of being a macho / not welcome to outsiders approach. Being that they have been in the community for so long I really do hope that they can improve their customer service like other gun stores in the area have. read more

This is a great gunshop, I am basing my review on several factors. 1. Quality of products-Excellent-the shop carries a wide range of firearms both in caliber and manufactor. You would be hard pressed to ask for a specific firearm and not be able to find it at Bob's. One thing to keep in mind many firearms are hard to find right now, you may need to have them order the one you want and be patient. 2. Quality of aftermarket items and supplies gernerally very well stocked. As of this post it is rather difficult for all gunshops to kleep many items on the shelf, more and more shooters are concerned that the possible new restrictive gun laws may cause a raise in prices or limited ablility to find the items. The shop does carry all related shooting items you may need to round out your equipment needs. 3. Ammunition- the shop carries all calibers from long gun to handguns, specific brands are availabe; however, not all brands or calibers are at hand all of the time. As of this post ammunition is getting harder and harder to come by, once again it is the belief that shooters are stocking up. 4. Range-the range has 6 lanes, all handgun ammunition is acceptable as long it is not contain any steel jackets. Since I have not shot long guns at this range you will need to check with the range master for the exact caliber accepted. The range is generallyt in good order, target cables do break from time to time, and are repaired right away of shortly thereafter they break. Please remember to clean up your brass. There is a wait for a lane almost always on the weekends, be prepared to wait or join the range for a year. If you are a member you can book a time to shoot, at which time you will get the next open lane. Time frame is one hour unless there is no one waiting for an open lane, then the range master will let you continue to shoot unitl you get tired or run out of ammo. A very wide range of targets are available for sale. 5. Glock Shop- I have seen a wide range of calibers and models in teh case, also if you are a huge Glock fan they have a variety of T-shirts and polos to suit you clothing needs. 6. Staff- let's face it if there is not a great staff to assist you all of the above is pretty useless information. I have had many interactions with the gunshop, the ammunition floor as well as the range. I have always been treated with respect plus a nice dose of humor. The staff in all areas of shop are very knowledgeble and more than willing to walk you through a decision. 7. The shop does offer concealed carry classes if this is the route you wish to go with your ownshership of firemars. You can also arrange, for a fee, to have instruction of one on one with a very skilled teacher. Bottom line Bob's Gun Shop is a well run and organized shop, I recommend you visit the shop I doubt you will be disapointed. read more

I doubt very seriously that I will ever be back. Jordan, who works the cash register at the range, obviously hates his job and takes it out on the customers. His attitude is horrible and was completely rude to me. After reading some of the other reviews, I can see this is the trend. I will drive an hour and a half to green top before I step foot in this place again. The owner really needs to address these issues with their customer service. Seeing all of the reviews, describing rude staff and bad customer service, really makes you wonder if the owner even cares. read more

I have also encountered real a holes at Bob's ,customers and employees, but for the most part the employees are very helpful. I went to Bob's in in Feb. 2014 for reloading supplies and some work on my AR-10. No problems with anybody or difficulty locating any supplies. Even the gunsmith came out and explained what he did to my rifle. I don't understand why some people have problems with staff anywhere. If it was as bad as previous reviews they would have gone out of business decades ago. I just called the gun shop (March 2014) about special ordering an AR 15. He jumped right on it and called me back 10 minutes later with a progress update. Again, I don't understand the complaints. read more

This is a good place to shoot as long as it is handgun calibers only. rifles are ok as long as they are pistol caliber rifles. No steel core ammo either. Their gun prices are generally $50-100 more than other local shops, of course that cost goes to their range when you purchase a firearm you get a $100 voucher for their range. I purchase a lot of my reloading supplies from them and their reloading selection is huge they have everything one could need to start or resupply their own stuff. The staff is very iffy on the sales floor, they can be extremely rude and ignore you. The accessories they have are amazing and plentiful. The second floor is nothing but ammo and safes. I like walking in there to see ammo from floor to ceiling. The third floor is for training classes for CWP. The fourth floor is where the range is and where they have their "Glock shop", the gunsmith, and suppressors. Glock shop guys are the same as sales floor guys. The people running the range and the gunsmiths are very nice people, they run their range very efficiently. The range is indoors and is kinda small (6 lanes), but well lit and it is a fun place to shoot. read more

I usually go to shops in VA Beach or order online . I've always known about Bobs but just never had chance to check it out. I finally did and they have a nice selection in there. I was eyeballing a used SCAR 17 (overpriced) and their "new" section of Sigs which included several MPXs. What got to me was the sales rep was doing a great job of showing me the MPX and really going into depth about the weapon. Next thing you know some bozo behind the counter presumably someone in a managerial position interrupts him and asks, "Hey, you STILL over there?" I could tell he was embarrassed, but I told him it was ok and to go see what he wanted. Little does he know I was really thinking about getting it just because the sales guy was giving me 100% until that SOB ruined it. The store wasn't crowded at all but I guess the douche behind the counter figured I was just there looking. Most people who have a bunch of guns have them because they always go to the store just to "look" around. Oh well, I won't be bothering with that place again read more

So once again Bob's doesn't disappoint me with giving it's lousy service and just plain rudeness from the folks working there. I go long periods of time in between going there just because of the folks working there. The selection is usually fair, and a large supply of reloading equipment. But the sheer amount of cockiness and poor service from most of those working there far outway the convinience of what they have. It's been surprising to me that for at least 20 years I've experienced bad attitudes and the "better than thou" cockiness from the employees. Either the owner doesn't know this about his place or is just as bad as those working for him. With the current state of things pertaining to guns it's a shame that a business run like that is able to prosper and make a profit due to the fears of most people. My advice to the folks working there (I understand there may be some good ones) get a clue of what's going on around you and how you appear to those you're suppose to be serving. Contrary to popular belief not everyone that walks through your door is an idiot when it comes to firearms, so stop treating everyone that way. It is YOU that looks like the idiot, and no matter how well the business may be, it would be a hell of lot better if the general attitudes of you working there were better. I went to bob's on a Saturday afternoon and was greeted by an all around unfriendly staff. Everyone acted like you were bothering them when you asked a question. While I was waiting for a lane a guy came out of the booth saying he had been hit by a Ricochet. The rage tender acted like it was no big deal saying someone must have been shooting at an angle BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. We waited nearly an hour for a lane to open up and kept being cut in line by people with Bob cards so the wait just kept growing and growing. When we finally got a lane we went in and the very first guy up in our group shooting a 45 caliber shot the target dead ahead and I was standing about 1 foot to his right behind him and I WAS HIT EXTREMELY HARD IN THE CHEST WITH A RICOCHET!!!. It took a few seconds before I could realize I was not shot in the chest AND DYING. I PICK A WHOLE BULLET UP OFF THE FLOOR and I went out immediately and told the range tender and he said exactly the same thing about someone shooting at an angle. He Acted like it was not a big deal that I could have been killed. I never fired one shot in the range and I told him I was in fear of my life and would not return into the shooting range. He did offer me a refund and I did not ask since I knew I would never return to the range or to buy a gun from them EVER!. If you like RISKING YOUR LIFE go shoot at BOB's Gun Shop!!!! read more

Went today (Saturday) to the range. First time at the range. Yes the wait was long, yes some of the employees didn't seem to be very observant. But put our names on the waiting list. Was told it would be a couple of hours. Went downstairs to the first and second floors. Employees answered all our questions. I have done some research on some of the handguns I wanted to try, but am no way and experience shooter or gun buyer. The employee that helped us was very knowledgeable and patient. He gave us his opinions on a couple of guns on my list. Some good guns, some not so good. Other employees we asked about some of the "not so good" guns gave us the same opinion. Range operator mentioned the same thing concerning some of the "not so good" guns on my list. Yes it was crowded, but hey it was a Saturday afternoon and raining. I didn't think the wait time was too long. It's too bad about some of these bad comments. Everybody has a bad day sometimes. Yes, I will definitely be going back. Most of the prices on the guns are better than most places I have checked on line and some in the gun shops I have gone too. read more
