Spent our 49th wedding anniversary at Bob's last night. Haven't experienced such an amazing dining experience in many, many years. We were greeted with warmth and an immediate Happy Anniversary comment. The menus were printed special for us with the words "Happy 49th Anniversary" printed on the top and presented to us as mementos. The service was superior, diligent yet non-interrupting. Professional, kind, customer focus! The steaks were expertly prepared, the side dishes were absolutely perfect and in keeping with exactly what one would expect from a fine steakhouse! We will definitely be repeat customers! I highly recommend Bob's for special occasions! Fantastic! read more

I think the service was too busy. Food was good of course, ambience is great of course... but we constantly were not the priority. Our drinks were forgotten, we had a whole appetizer never made it to the table, and it was on our bill. We didn't notice it since the bill went to the room. Despite that I still gave a good tip, I know they tried, but were just too busy. But because of that, being charged for something and not getting the actual dish, minimal attention to our drinks / needs etc, it really dampened the experience. read more

Ooof. Okay. I hate leaving reviews like this but I have to be honest about a $250 meal. The restaurant opens at 5. Reservation for 3 was at 5 @ opening. Requested to be seated at booth since it was not a separate type of reservation for "booth." The host continued to say that the booths were already reserved? But I had reserved the indoor seats at opening just to get good seats & not be seated in the front next to the open doors. Mind you this was booked more than a month in advance. Expressed that we were definitely cold, as all the booths were open when we were seated. Felt very discriminated against as NO ONE ELSE was seated in the front middle row after us, even the later seating times. I had to call the manager and she without apologizing moved us to the booth. Incorrect service strategies, please fix how you serve everyone equally with respect beyond skin color. I hope no one else has an experience like this going forward. Will not be back. In terms of food, the beefsteak salad was just slices of tomato and raw spicy onions with blue cheese on top. Scallops and crab cakes were very salty. The carpaccio was nothing special. The 14oz rib eye was decent. Nothing really stands out for food, as the drinks also was watered down. The mocktail cinderalla was very confusing-- bits of bleak yuzu that has been sitting in water for a while. 2 stars for Antonio's great service and genuine kindness. I have been to this location many times as my family is from San Diego, but I have also been to other Bob's locations in other states and cities, and can say this Carlsbad location is as good if not better than those. I would say it's one of my favorite steakhouses in San Diego because it is always consistently a high quality, perfectly cooked steak. It's located in the Omni La Costa resort and parking is fairly easy, you can do self parking or you can do valet right out front. The restaurant validates as well. Inside is quite large. They have a lot of different seating options from booths, to tables, to I'm sure private rooms. It was quite busy when we arrived, but was not overly loud. Our server was very polite and entertaining, and all of our dishes came out very fast. The meal will start with their signature pickles and red pepper in vinegar in a glass jar, which is always a great start to the meal for me. Their steaks also come with a glazed carrot, which always reminds me that I don't eat enough carrots until Bob's gives it to me as a side. I started off my meal with the Beef Steak Tomatoes & Red Onion and thought it was a great dish and appetizer. The tomatoes were refresh, the crumbled blue cheese was a great addition, and the onions added a great flavor. For my entrée, I chose the 12 ounce Filet Mignon and thought it was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed every bit. I ate at Born and Raised a few days before this and thought Bob's steak was much better. I didn't get a chance to take photos of the appetizers, but we ordered two salads and they were nice, nothing amazing but good. The steak was perfect super fresh, flavorful, a bit salty, but honestly I would come back just for the meat. The mashed potatoes had too much garlic for me, and the carrot had a lot of cinnamon. The dessert was a frozen chocolate cake and it was way too sweet. The place is really close to our house, so we'll definitely come back. Went to dinner here tonight, and let me start by saying every staff member was incredibly, our server was so knowledgeable, he broke our meal up in four courses. He waited until we were all done to bring out the next course. Didn't rush or even come ask if we were done 1 time! Everything and I mean everything was delicious! This is a top steakhouse for a reason, they definitely know what they're doing here! They have these big sweet cinnamon carrots that I couldn't get enough of, and the Mac n cheese with the blue cheese was a great edition ! They also validate parking fyi! It's a very nice place with a fancy vibe. The main course was this beautiful ribeye pictured below, and it was cooked to perfection. It was so juicy and flavorful! Trying to find this place at night was rough. And because it was dark, it was very difficult to read the signage. We were going to just call it quits and go elsewhere. Thankfully, we were able to ask a couple of people that were walking because it's located where there's no direct access by vehicle to the restaurant. Whether you pay for public parking in the resort or use the complimentary valet for the restaurant (thank goodness for that!) expect a bit of a walk. I just recovered from foot surgery so I was so grateful I decided to wear my comfy casual sneakers even though we were here to celebrate our anniversary. When we finally found the valet, it started our good experience. They were very kind and helpful and directed us where to go from there. We walked through some shops and finally arrived at the restaurant. Great appeal with a big fountain in front and great outdoor seating. Inside, it isn't very big. Very classy, the lighting is dim, intimate, with dark wood throughout. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server, Joseph was awesome. Very friendly and attentive. Our menu's was personalized wishing us a Happy 32nd Anniversary! Great touch! Started with the Calamari, amazing! Perfectly fried. The sauce it came with though-was it just ketchup? We ordered the Bone-in ribeye and the Salmon. The ribeye was absolutely amazing! Exactly what you would expect from a great steakhouse. Perfect temperature. With each bite it just melted in your mouth. The best. Unfortunately, the salmon was a bit dry. But the sides we had, the garlic mashed potatoes and the carrots were the best complement to our dishes. There were also house-made pickles and peppers for the table, which were a delight. We go and try San Diego's steakhouses to celebrate birthdays in our family and, this time, for my wife's birthday, we ate at Bob's at the Omni Resort in Carlsbad, CA. This restaurant is nice and cozy with a touch of New York steakhouse ambiance. A nice touch is the personalized menu with my wife's name printed on top. We ordered the porterhouse which is a rarity at steakhouses here in San Diego, plus, the kids had their NY Strip like they always do. The steak was fantastic as is their wine selection. The standout here is the service with just the right amount attention which we always appreciate. We were also treated to a big chocolate ice cream over a slice of fudge brownie. Nestled within the beautiful Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, this place was not difficult to find at all. Plenty of signs directed us to the self-parking lot, and it was just a short walk to Bob's. Our party of 9 had 5:30p reservations, and we were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. For some of us it was our first time dining here, and it was a blessed culinary experience. The interior was warmly lit, and I loved seeing the decor of the American flag on the wall, as well as a frame that said, "Beef and Liberty". LOL! In my mind I had TX feels and to my surprise, I was excited to learn that Bob's is actually a TX-born chain! With that said, I appreciated the jar of homemade pickles that was on the table...cuccumbers and red peppers were a refreshing start! The bread service came out right away...hot and fresh! Our kind server, Jeff, was attentive and also a pro with handling a large party. Everyone wholeheartedly enjoyed their succulent ribeyes, and the cocktails and wine were spot on! A house-made jar of pickles (cucumbers and red peppers) sits on each table -that was interesting and different (good for those looking to avoid insulin spikes before diving into the gorgeous bread loaf that comes next). Our party ordered the 9 oz filet, 14 oz ribeye and 22-oz bone in ribeye. Steaks are served with your choice or potato and a cooked, glazed carrot. Did not care for the sweet glaze on the carrot. Ordered broccolini which was excellent. Extensive wine and spirits list. It's OK but I expect much better than OK when I come to a premium steakhouse like this. Ambiance feels a bit dated but maybe thats their attempt to look and feel vintage. Fine. Service was prompt and friendly and was easily the highlight of the evening. Without that this would've been a 2-star review without question. Sadly, the steaks weren't good. We each had boneless ribeyes, and while they were cooked well to our desired medium rare, they were a bit tough, chewy, and dry. They seemed much closer to USDA Select than Prime. Minimal marbling. Minimal flavor. Minimal moisture. I didn't attempt to finish mine and it came home with me to be eaten with tortillas or eggs or something to make it more palatable. We had a wonderful experience at Bob's. I made reservations for 6 PM. Got there a little early. We were seated right away greeted very nicely. We sat outside and the weather was beautiful. The sun was in my husband's face and everyone was just so helpful in trying to move things around so it wasn't bothering him. I really appreciate that. It just shows you how they go above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable. The waiter was very friendly knowledgeable recommended a few things on the menu for us. We were checked on several times throughout our meal. Now the bread was phenomenal. The butter was absolutely to die for the steak was amazing. The cream corn was amazing. The baked potato was amazing. I really have absolutely no complaints about this place. I look forward to going again and bringing family and other friends along with me. I had a filet mignon, 9oz. It was cooked a good medium well. The baked potato was good but when presented no toppings. I asked the waiter and he did bring a nice plate with shredded cheddar, bacon bits, butter, etc. the strangest part was the carrot. In the middle of the plate was an uncut, whole sweetened carrot. The carrot was good, reminded me of tzissmes. My issue is the plate presentation was not attractive. We also hand a few appetizers. The onion rings looked good, except for the burned ones, but they had no flavor, calamari, hard, not good. And spicy tuna tartare which was good, the chips with it were blah, but the fish was good. I had the ordinary $29 Old fashioned drink. It was strong, ok taste, but I was "feeling it" so I liked it . The waiter was nothing special, for an expensive place the service is lacking. Save this for when you're on an expense account or trying to impress someone that doesn't know anything about food or wine. My steak was well prepared, but wife's "medium rare" was rare verging on blue. Not that anyone from restaurant would know since they didn't check on us and waiter even sent someone else prior when food obviously delayed a lot to say they working on it. I have been meaning to check out this restaurant for many years and have never had a chance to get over there. Well, my wife and I decided to celebrate a promotion yesterday so we called and made a reservation. They asked are we celebrating anything and I said yes, a promotion. Our waiter started nice and we started with Salad but it went downhill from there. I ordered their $15 margarita and it came in a water glass. really? That's the best you can do water glass? Anyway, I ordered the large ribeye steak and she ordered the salmon and this is where the real letdown happened. They advertised prime grade beef. I was born and raised in Chicago and been around the block not my first rodeo. This was not prime beef. It was tough as shoe leather I cannot believe the low quality meat serving and calling at prime. Was worse. The waiter asked "we cook the salmon medium" and I asked "she likes it cooked through all the way is that cooked through" and he said "it's cooked through all the way and medium but if you like it more well done we can, but it's cooked" so we trusted him and let the restaurant make it their way. When she got it, take a look at the picture. The outside was cooked in the inside was Sushi. She even commented she couldn't eat it so I had shoe leather steak and my wife had Raw salmon and we were not happy. He came over and then tried to upsell us more stuff like a dessert and I said the girl said you're celebrating so something should be complementary? . He got a little bent out of shape which caused them to not offer us. Any coffee , and said "sure" and brought over a mud pie. Their prices are ridiculous for what you get. If they're going to charge Ruth Chris prices might as well just go over to Ruth Chris when you know it won't be let down and the quality is good. We made reservations for dinner last night for 645p to celebrate my wife's promotion. The hostess were nice and friendly, we waited about 10 minutes for a booth which was fine. Once we were seated someone came by with water and yummy bread and butter and that was it!! No one ever came to take our order!! After about 30 minutes we got up and left! Horrible service! This place is definitely not cheap, but I would say that you are getting a high quality experience/food in return. I unfortunately did get our mustached server's name but he provided excellent service to us. Was very patient with all of my wife's questions and indecision and was very attentive. We split the 9oz lobster (photo attached) and it did not disappoint. I tend to not like getting lobster because it is often poorly cooked and small. This was perfectly cooked and a good amount of meat. The massive carrot on the plate was a little strange but we all had a good laugh about it. Friend had the steak flight and said they were all good. Anyway, if you can get past the prices, the food is great, which for me is a bit surprising for a hotel restaurant. read more

Checked out Bob's for a special date night meal. what a beautiful property. They have complementary valet parking. And then you walk through the resort grounds to get to Bob's. It was Christmas time so everything was very decorated and beautiful. There is even a pop-up holiday bar within the resort grounds, but unfortunately it was closed. Maybe next year. We were seated right away and they have homemade pickles on every table. I do not eat pickles, but my husband loved it. We split a surf and turf meal, which was more than enough food. It was my husband's birthday and they brought out a complementary dessert, which was delicious, but we enough room to eat any more food. First off I got sick from the steak. Overall though, it's an overpriced mediocre steakhouse that is trying to be on par with a Flemmings but doesn't achieve that mark. Food was lackluster, giant carrot that even Mr Ed wouldn't finish is a bit absurd. The table next to us just gathered all the carrots, placed it on one plate and made a mountain of carrots. Why Management or Ownership doesn't understand how ridiculous it is is beyond me. French onion soup was bland and boring. Steak needed salt and pepper and had at least 4 ounces of fat that I placed on another plate. Asked for the potatoes with gravy and onions on side, and they came with them on it. Where to even start! This place is AMAZING!! From the moment you walk in to the time you leave it's nothing but the best. We had the pleasure of having Fernando as our waiter. He was so kind, on top of everything and very knowledgeable with the menu. You start your dinning experience with some fresh warm bread that's so fluffy! We ordered the scallops, corn and poblano soup(just enough spice. Nothing over powering and really good), onion rings( I don't know how they do it but the onion never pulled out when you bite it each time) 16 oz filet with smashed potato's, Mac n cheese and broccolini. We ended the night with the brownie Sunday. Abby was also so sweet and stoped by to check on us to see how everything was going. Do we need anything. Went to Bob's for our anniversary because it got great reviews and we're from the area. Food was ok, spent about $500 on food and drinks. Server spilled a glass of wine on my wife, and compt us the drink he spilt plus a carrot cake that we don't plan to eat(felt the comp should've been more considering dry cleaning cost). My wife has a soft spot for servers because she was in the industry and so she knows how she would've felt if she did something like that. My issue is with the manager, we watched him go around to every table in the restaurant asking how their meal was except for ours(we're an interracial couple). I went back and forth on if I would leave a review or not because I know a lot of times these things can fall on deaf ears, but I've been unable to let it go. For the amount of money we spent and having the server spill wine on my wife and not have the manager check on us made me feel like this was intentional. I don't want to knock the restaurant, everyone's experience is different, but I will not be returning to Bob's, we normally would go to Villiucii's for an important event and I've never felt this way, but we decided to try something new an left the restaurant immediately regretting it. Doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a chance, but I think that manager needs to be instructed on how to treat all paying customers the same way. read more

I had a great experience at Bob's. We were at the resort celebrating my girls birthday and it was an elevated experience (they printed their names on the menu). The food was great - ranging from wedge salad and onion rings to steak, duck and fried shrimp. My steak was perfect, along with the duck. I think the shrimp were overfried and not really worthy of the price as it kind of looked like a appetizer and not a main dish. I think there were some minor service issues like being seated next to a door where it was noisy and the Bob team would hold it open unnecessarily long (it was cold). We also had a reservation so I feel like we could have been seated in a better location. Food also came out in a odd order with my appetizer coming after salads. I did feel a bit rushed at times but overall a very great night. read more

Had a nice meal with my wife and special needs dog last night at Bob's. The experience was extraordinary. The food, as always, exceeded expectations, and our waiter, Sam, was marvelous. Every request was fulfilled, and our glasses were never empty. Sam was kind, cordial, and respectful. We could not ask for anything more. The rack of lamb and filet mignon were cooked to perfection. Review for the lounge/bar only. I don't know why more people don't dine in the bar area of restaurants. It's less formal, it's livelier, you usually don't need reservations, and you can usually order anything and everything off the main menu. Bob's lounge area is more attractive than the main dining room, by the way. Interestingly, you CAN reserve tables in the lounge. We saw a number of "reserved" signs. We tried a few different items: calamari, the shrimp platter, and the Bleu Cheese salad (yes, they spell it "bleu"). The calamari was good and you get a large portion. The shrimp platter comes with six large shrimps. Two are fried, two are in a remoulade sauce, and two are meant for dipping in a cocktail sauce. It's a really nice dish but the price tag is very high ($28). If you like blue cheese, this salad is heaven. Keep in mind this is NOT the wedge which also comes with blue cheese. They very nicely, and without us asking, split it for us and it's a HUGE portion. I loved it and would order it again and again. Drinks are solid. The bartender who also waited on our table was great. The bus staff seemed inexperienced. They get very busy so if you want to sit in the dining room, make reservations well in advance. This is a tough review for me to post as this might possibly have been just my experience but everything here was incredible except the hostess. I've never encountered a situation like this before but here we go. I came in on Thursday right at opening (5pm) and asked the hostess if I could get a table for myself. I requested a booth if possible. She walks me over to a thin table that is next to a major walk way and I asked her if I could have something else a little more private. She proceeds to move me two tables over to another thin table that is next to a service door(that wasn't used while I was eating.) I politely asked if there was any reason I couldn't sit at a booth. And she said it was all reserved or certain sections weren't being serviced. And to make a reservation in advanced next time. My table was wobbly and I asked if I could move again and they wouldn't move me. I ate for about 45mins and the restaurant was practically empty the whole time. The next day, I did what she said and requested a reservation on OpenTable for the same time. The same hostess checks me in and tries to sit me at the SAME table! I asked her to please sit me ANYwhere else. She then tells me if I want a booth I now need to call it in?? Why are these booths so coveted when they end up being empty? It was beyond strange and quite rude at this point. She gave me a booth I wanted, I ate and left. Once again, the place was empty so I don't get any of her attitude. My server was incredible both days (same gentleman) and the food was perfect. I ordered a Porterhouse the first day and the Filet / lobster the next and I had no complaints about the food. I love the side options that come with the steaks. So I wish I could give this place 5 stars but that hostess made me feel like I wasn't welcome and I will not be returning any time soon at all. read more
