This restaurant was straight up good American restaurant food that carters to all to enjoy. You can get anything from salads, soups, fish to burgers etc My Caesar salad was excellent. The shrimps were grilled and huge with perfect seasoning. I was so happy to have a fresh berry dessert it was yummy and refreshing. People in my party loved there dishes everyone was a happy camper.

The small, intimate space has a lot to offer, and I enjoyed sitting at the bar with its sea glass counter. Despite the consistent flow of people coming in, with coats brushing the back of my chair, I didn't feel squeezed in. The bartender was friendly and mixed a fabulous Bloody Mary. The guacamole has a nice kick and the chips a decent crunch. The portion was perfect for two. Despite the lovely presentation, the tuna burger lacked flavor. I ordered without the bun to get a sense of the meat, and I was unimpressed. I received a palm-sized "puck" of meat. I'd seen someone enjoying the berry-topped crème brûlée as I sat down, and a patron praised the Island's as "the best in the world", (and he'd travelled a lot and been to Paris), yet I can tell you the French restaurant down the street is where one should enjoy this dessert, not on this Island. With a delightful burnt sugar topping, I must admit, the only place where the dish offered tasty custard, was on the edges. The dish was undercooked, not raw, so I had a sauce, not a custard. The ambience is pleasant and with other successful meals, I'll return, yet not for the tuna. I may give the chef a chance to show off this world-renowned dessert that the regulars enjoy so much.

From the high-end, high-cuisine dining sophistication to more affordable spots in the UES, hubs decided to go for this underdog on Madison & 93rd. Despite the already preppie, old-money attire at Island, our sneaks and my Nike pants had to suffice as we just finished with an Ephrat Asherie performance at the Guggenheim. With their yacht and nautical design, Island paints a picture of an almost sea-worthy journey- without a trip to the beach. We nabbed an 8pm Wednesday reservation in their second dining room right off their bar. Seats directly in front of the bar however, are skillfully arranged in a narrow stretch- as it's the only way to get to the middle and back dining rooms. The menu seems to represent just about any island in every continent you can think of: Caribbean islands, Islands off South America, Asian islands, islands in the Indian Ocean and so many others. When you hear about a place is "all over the place" you generally think of chaos- but not here. It's actually the menu because it's all over the place. You have Hummus next to Guacamole next to a Tuna Poke Bowl. So Mr. Owner- please don't take any insult- the menu has A LOT because it's formed around the world. Miso Japanese Eggplant appetizer was creative and delicious while hubs enjoyed his Arugula salad with a load of Parmesan. My rare, sesame crusted Tuna as requested was juicy but needed a hair touch of salt to bring the dish together and hubs' Maine Lobster Quesadillas had juicy lump meat- but weren't form correctly. I'm admittedly not much of a pie person and it's unlike me to order anything outside of Chocolate but the Key Lime Pie with Meringue called me. That sucker was tart, good and incredibly sweet (maybe turn down the sweetness on this one a bit)- while hubs' Blueberry Cobbler had the right warm temp and oozed nicely. Despite everything, food was very nice and service was awesome from our server.

$13 over priced mini tomato soup

Sadly, Everything at this neighborhood restaurant has gotten smaller but they are still charging the same price. The tomato soup is half the size and is an outrageous$13. Cobb salad this time gave me a bad stomach & so did the Niçoise salad that my husband has. Eeks!

There's a camaraderie in the room that invites you to slow down, connect, and truly experience both the conversation and the food. Everything feels considered. My best friend and I each ordered the prix fixe menu, and it was a journey from start to finish. I began with the Spicy Corn & Coconut Soup--honestly, unforgettable. The crispy shallots added just the right amount of texture against the velvety base, and each spoonful layered flavor in a way that felt both comforting and elevated. For my main, I had the kichuri, and Chef Alex Guzman absolutely shines here. He is a star--full stop. There's a clarity and confidence in his cooking that you can taste. The cilantro chutney was perfection, and the way the mint lingers alongside the spice... it's the kind of balance that only comes from someone who truly understands their craft. You can feel his care in every bite. I ended with the key lime pie, and all I can say is thank you. The whipped cream was fresh and airy, the lime zest bright without overpowering, and the crust tied everything together beautifully. It felt like a thoughtful, intentional close to an already incredible meal. I highly recommend starting with the guava mocktail, then pairing your main with the fig mocktail--both are perfectly crafted and complement the dishes so well. Also, sit at the bar. It's a perfect date night spot to share deliciousness with a loved one. My friend and I shared three flavorful dishes-- a radicchio salad, the Confit Duck Leg and the Paccheri, a pasta with house- made pork sausage and broccoli rabe. The duck was so tender it fell off the bone. The pasta was intricate and tasted perfect when it was first served then veered a tad salty as it marinated (but still great). The salad was gorgeous on its own but even better accompanied by the mains. The duck was probably my favorite, but every bite complemented the next thing so well, that all of my senses were thoroughly engaged. I truly was having such a deep experience with the food that at one point I asked my friend to stop talking so that I could properly take in all the flavors. Oops. She loved the food too, so thankfully she understood. We topped off the meal with the buñuelos. We liked the sauce, but I'd say it's not memorable. I liked my orange wine, and my friend was indifferent about her drink. It was a pricey dinner but such a worthwhile experience. Can't wait to go back.

Read on if you desire genuine knowledge and only dine out with intention. First, and most importantly, shouts to Myles and the team working this day. The salmon in my Jerk Salmon Bowl and my friend's Atlantic Salmon Bowl was flaky, tender, juicy, and perfect. The rices (white with Jerk, black forbidden with Atlantic) confirmed and celebrated what Chef JJ Johnson wrote in his must-have book The History of Rice. This is to say there is no rice like FIELDTRIP rice: soft, sturdy, sweet, savory, herby, attaches to sauce and protein and vegetables when you want it to, remains on its own when you simply want to enjoy it by itself. The plantains and greens that accompany are ridonkulous icing on the salmon sundae. If you aren't a fan of Brussels sprouts, you likely have good reasons. And, you owe it to yourself to order Crispy Brussels. Besides being cooked so they are toothsome, textured, and still sweet, they're quartered or sixthed, which makes them easier to enjoy and perfect carriers for the crispy bits that top them. I love oxtail. To enjoy this rarely served beef element in a perfectly wrapped and fried egg roll added to my adoration. After bite one, I literally unwrapped my half to see how the shredded meat was coexisting. No saucing was necessary, though the Avocado Cilantro and New Jack Sticky BBQ (both of which were enjoyed by me via spoon) would have enhanced the roll most righteously. Lastly, when you dine in or take away from FIELDTRIP, you need Nana's Bread. It is what you might enjoy if a freshly made flour tortilla, naan, pita, and focaccia met, joined, and were put through a presser. I would dip and dredge Nana's Bread in everything.
