Went to Bocas Grill for dinner on a recent trip to Miami and it was great. Being Venezuelan this is my comfort food, the food I most crave, and it was great. We ordered the sampler appetizer: arepitas, tequeños and delicious cheese, everything was very good. I had a parchita juice/frozen slushie type and it was SO good. Looove anything passion fruit. For our entrees, we had arepas and the pabellon. Everything was very good. We were super stuffed by the end. The restaurant is really cute and has an awesome bar, definitely a nice spot for a meal/to hang. read more

"Made a reservation on Monday, 1/3/22 for a Business lunch on Monday, 1/10/22 for 12 to seat only outside. We got there and we were informed that the building that houses the restaurant was under repairs and we could not sit outside. I asked the manager when did the building told them this, and she said it was Thursday (4 days before our lunch meeting). How is it possible that during those 4 days no one called us to advise us of this change? Either they did not call us on purpose so we couldn't cancel, or their Administration /Management is so inexperience that they did not think of calling a 12 person reservation. Needless to say, we HAD to sit inside which is exactly what we did not want to do. Other than that, food was excellent and so was service. read more

Great service. Parking is bailable near next door. We decided to visit Bocas after a new times event. We arrived about 9-10pm we got sited right away. Our server was really nice and fast. Got us water right away and he was ready to take our order. We asked for extra time and maybe after 5 minutes he came back to check on us and see if we were ready. I ordered Tallarín Saltado al Wok Con Pollo - it was to salty for my liking. My friend order the bocas burger - it looked sooo good. My husband order a Causa de Pulpo- he said it was really good. I'm torn as to whether this restaurant deserves 3 stars or 4. Everything I tried was good, service was good, but the place was nearly empty the entire time we were here and nothing about this restaurant, including the menu offerings, make me to want to rush back anytime soon. Bocas Grill is part of the growing Bocas Group, which has Bocas House Venezuelan-Peruvian restaurants in Doral, Weston and Coral Gables, and this Bocas Grill chain with locations in Virgina Gardens, Brickell, Kendall, Orlando and soon to be Weston. Bocas Grill doesn't seem to offer many larger entrees and appears to be more concentrated on arepas, burgers and smaller dishes. The bilingual menu isn't the easiest to follow and has a bit of an odd layout. Also, there's a photo of what appears to be a traditional Lomo Saltado, but on the menu, it's called "Lomo Ahumado Al Wok / Wok Smoked Lomo Steak". I was interested in a few of the proper steak entrees, but 1/2 the steaks listed and pictured on the menu say "Only available in Orlando". A disappointment for sure, and it almost begs the question, if Bocas Grill in Orlando has different offerings than this chain's other 4 locations, why not print a menu or an addition specifically for Orlando? They have no bar menu available listing their beers, wines or featured cocktails. When my partner asked if they had a lychee martini, the server at the bar didn't know what that was, and asked if lychee was a type of vodka. We later noticed a jar of (clearly labeled) lychees in the cooler just in front of where we were sat at the bar. The same server showed us one of the wines they had and told us which country it was supposedly from, and he was incorrect. I had the Bocas Burger (16 oz burger with cilantro aioli, bacon, spinach, tomato, fried egg, American cheese, grilled white cheese and a side of fries), while my partner had the Wok Smoked Lomo Steak (also known as "Lomo Saltado" in every other Peruvian restaurant known to man). The server carried 2 very large wireless devices on his waist - one to take the orders, and it appeared the other was to swipe credit cards and print receipts. The funny thing was, it took him much longer to type and enter everything into the pad than it did for us to order; certainly much longer than it would've if he'd carried a simple pad of paper to jot everything down. Odd that they have some of the newest technology, but it actually appears to complicate things and take longer to use. Both our meals were very good, and the price was definitely fair. With both of us getting the food described above and each of us having 2 imported beers, we split the bill evenly and it came to just under $45 before gratuity. This Bocas Grill is nicely appointed, with a rectangular bar to the right as one enters and a fair amount of seating at tables/chairs and booths; the interior decor is modern and uncluttered. We arrived on a weeknight at around 9 and aside from 2 tables of people who left just after we were served, the place was completely empty while we were here. That said, the kitchen was quite busy the entire time, with a seemingly constant demand for "to go" and Uber Eats orders. read more

The negative: the restaurant is really loud, and cold, so the atmosphere is off. Another reviewer said this place was "nice and calm" and "without all the hustle and bustle." LOL. Not even close. Seating isn't comfortable either. Bartender can't make a vodka soda. It's difficult to self-park, and the restaurant itself only offers free valet, it doesn't have it's own parking area. The good: the flavor of the food is delicious. Everything I've had has been delicious. the Tostones with the lomo are the favorites here, and the black beans - the black beans are so good! Staff is very friendly, everyone is really nice - and that goes a long way. A tip - the menu says that the steaks are only available in the Orlando, FL locations, but that's not accurate. The steaks are available in this location! We had one, and it was phenomenal. read more

I didn't know what an arepa was until I tried one at Bocas. I think the "buns" are made with corn, and then grilled to a crispiness. It can then be stuffed with a variety of ingredients. I ordered the Huevo En Su Nido with Lomo (poached egg and steak). The first few bites were delicious, with the steak being well seasoned, the egg perfectly cooked, and the "bun" was a good vessel to hold it all together. However, the reason I can't give it 5 stars is that the steak was quite chewy and they were cut up in pretty big chunks. My jaws were hurting by the time I finished half. Also, after eating half, the "bun" became soggy and very doughy. Additionally, we ordered a plate of shrimp fried rice to share. No complaints here. Overall, I enjoyed it, and would probably order shredded beef or another meat in my arepas next time. In terms of atmosphere and decor, I really like how clean and modern this location was. read more

Have visited other Bocas locations and never had a problem but with this location I seem to be out of luck. Ordered lunch from here through Uber eats to be delivered nearby in Brickell. I ordered something simple this time, chicken breast with mashed potatoes and plantains. My lunch time is limited so I placed the order with enough time expecting my meal to be delivered as ordered. Unfortunately this was not the case and although I dislike to give low star ratings, this is a second issue with this location. Yet this time I took pictures and decided to post this review so that maybe someone can take care of whatever is happening. The chicken and mashed potatoes arrived fine but the plantains came so charred that they left the taste of burnt plantains in my mouth for a good while! Not sure how someone there can knowingly pack these and send them to someone, especially knowing that this is lunch time and on their break from work. My heart is so torn. The food was absolutely amazing but the service was not. Let's start with the bad and then pep things up with the good. We visited on a Friday night, there was a good size crowd. We were greeted and seated immediately. We put an order in for an appetizer and two entrees. The appetizer came out and then within a minute our two entrees. There is nothing I hate more than not allowing an appetizer to be an appetizer before bringing out the main course. It was difficult to get soda refills from our waiter which left us with empty glasses for much longer period of time than should ever occur. When we receive the bill, we realize we've been charged $3.00 for a refill of fountain soda! Who does this?! The soda is served in a stemless wine glass, two sips and it's gone so a refill is inevitable. To make you laugh, the check offers tip calculations from 18%-30%. We were a party of 2. C'mon now. The food was absolutely spectacular. We started with tostones topped with shrimp which tasted fantastic. My husband got the truffle burger and it was OMG amazing. The burger meat was so tender and the taste of truffle was not overwhelming. I had the arepa llanera and the meat was so perfectly cooked and juicy. For dessert, we had a dulce de leche crepe. All in all, we will come back because the food was that good. For one don't double charge tip I paid 40% instead of 20% and was never told it was included, just robbery I'm a captain server at fiola and my fiancé ordered a featured cocktail and the waitress tried to up charge the tequila if I wasn't there she would have been robbed she recommended 1947 or clase azul which are sipping tequilas just so she could up charge. When I told her no just use the spirit that's on the page she rolled her eyes. Plus I was going there to propose to my fiancé cause she's been excited to go to you for a while and I asked for a lower table to get on one knee and they gave me a high top. What a great lunch experience! Our server was the fabulous David, who catered to all of our wishes. He also is eye candy, who is a cross between Prince and Lenny Kravitz. We were craving a burger and decided to try Bocas since I know they cook a little bit more clean and healthy than a lot of other places in the area. I liked that the food was packed on plastic containers where it keeps warm and organized. The burger was amazing, it had spinach instead of lettuce and we loved it. It tastes homemade. Best Venezuelan fusion restaurant in Miami... I highly recommend their burgers, easily compete with any top American burgers in Miami with a kick of Venezuelan food. Don't miss the "tostones with lomo saltado" it is an appetizer but it is huge so be aware of that, The best dish of the restaurant in my opinion and the "Chicha" it's amazing. I had the privilege of having dinner here last night and breakfast this morning. Great simple food, elevated to gourmet. They are known for their arepas and they are delicious. I had their Arepa Llanera, an arepa stuffed with steak, vegetables and white cheese. Delicious! I also had the pleasure to have one of their infused cocktails (with Cachaca, pineapple and cilantro) which was very smooth. They have a build your own breakfast platter, which I topped off with a special cappucino (with nutella and hazlenuts drizzled on the lip of the cup). We picked Bocas Grill because it was an easy 5 minute walk from our Airbnb and it got 4 stars on Yelp. I'll start out by saying the service was fine and the decor was hip, so it's a nice hangout spot if you want to just grab a beer, etc. My issue was with the food. I ordered the arepas with chicken "en su nido," meaning it was like in a nest with an egg in the middle. They're supposed to specialize in arepas, but I found my plate to be barely edible. The arepa was tough and tasteless and the chicken filling had a disagreeable flavor. My hubby got a fish filet with veggies and tostones (fried green plantains). Everything was covered in oil and the tostones were the worst he's ever had (and he's Dominican, so he's had a lot of 'em). On the bright side, our two friends who came with us fares better with their orders. One ordered the tropical salad and enjoyed it -especially house dressing - and the other liked her fried rice with pork- albeit found it oily, as well. My son did a Google search of BBQ restaurants in the vicinity of our primary care physician and he found Bocas Grill so we took a short Uber ride there. This restaurant has by far the best music of any restaurant we had been to in Miami as it was very lively Brazilian jazz. We ordered a Parrilla Mixta Bocas Grill Platter for 2 which came with an assortment of grilled chicken, beef and chorizo, guacamole, fried plantain medallions, grilled yuca covered in a savory green sauce, arepitas and three sauces. We also had freshly prepared fruit juice: my son had passion fruit juice and I had tamarind juice. Both the food and the drinks were absolutely delicious! We were served both by a robot that transported the food and drinks and by Vanessa, a friendly and helpful server, who took the food and drink from the robot and placed in on our table. read more
