I used to come to Doggy's Arepa Bar on Coral Way all the time between 2015 and 2017, it was my absolute favorite spot to eat. The food was consistently delicious and everything tasted incredible. Today I was walking through Coral Gables and got hungry, so I decided to give it another try after a couple of disappointments a few year back. We were greeted warmly and the service was outstanding, the staff was attentive, courteous, and always smiling, which really makes a difference. They started us off with complimentary arepitas de chicharrón that were excellent. I ordered the patacón de carne, which was packed with flavor, though the shredded meat came a little cold. We also got the patacón de pollo and we loved it. Both came with fresh avocado, tomato, and lettuce, and the green plantain was perfectly crispy. They also brought out their four house sauces (white, green, pink, and spicy) and every single one was fantastic. The portions were generous and more than enough for one person. I'm really glad my return visit was a positive experience. It reminded me why I loved this place so much, and I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

Apple Maps shows this place is closed on Sunday after 4pm (which is not the case) , so I went to their website to look for a different location. I placed an order online through their website and drove to pick it up only to find out that their own website listed the wrong address for this location that Apple Maps has the wrong hours for. What a mess! By the time I got to the wrong address and called to figure out what was going on, my food had been sitting for 30 min and I was still 15 min away from the right address + 25 min to where I was staying. I had ordered arepas, empanadas and ceviche. When I finally arrived to pick up I asked for the food to be remade specially the ceviche since I didn't feel comfortable eating something raw after it seating on the counter for over an hour due to their mistake. I used to order from Doggi's all the time when I worked in Brickell, but I'd never actually dined in. Today, while waiting for something to print at Office Depot, I was searching for a nearby brunch spot when it popped up in my search & I'm so glad I did! First of all, the place is absolutely adorable. It was a packed Sunday morning around 11 a.m. Only one tiny table was left inside, though there were a couple outside too. Honestly, on a beautiful Miami morning, I wouldn't have minded sitting outdoors at all. What really stood out, though, was the service. Gabriela, our hostess and waitress, was wonderful. Warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind with a huge smile. She walked us through the menu, answered questions about dishes I didn't recognize (it's a Venezuelan spot, after all), and made us feel completely taken care of. Even more impressive was that she seemed to be the only waitress on duty yet never came across as flustered or hurried or anything other than pure sunshine! I ordered my longtime favorite, the arepa perica, just like I used to when I worked nearby, along with a fresh-squeezed orange juice and a chicken empanada to try. My father ordered the desayuno criollo. Everything was absolutely delicious. The presentation was beautiful, the plating thoughtful, and the flavors delivered across the board. The space was lively and full of families, making it a great Sunday brunch spot. Doggi's is a laid back place, where you can grab a bite for breakfast, lunch , or dinner. The service is quick and they offer a variety of Venezuelan items, but I had to go with the arepa! I tried the arepa llanera (steak, grilled cheese, and chimichurri) and it was so delicious!! The grilled "paisa" cheese has to be one of my favorite parts about this arepa. We ordered stuffed arepas from here for dinner. The friends I was with are regulars here and said I had to try the arepas. I ordered the chicken arepa and also tried some of the tostones margaritenos. Both were pretty good. The arepa was soft, fluffy and tasted like corn and cheese (just as it should). The chicken stuffed inside the arepa needed more flavor itself but with the different sauces tasted delicious. My favorite was the tostones and the salad that went on top of it. Oh my gawwwwwwwwwd! The cachapa changed my life. I will never eat another cachapa again if not here at Doggi's Arepa Bar because it just won't be the same. It was the texture of the corn cake contrasted with the ever so slight burrata-esque texture of the cheese mixed with their cilantro sauce that sent me into dinner bliss. When she noticed that I didn't speak Spanish fluently, she quickly reverted to English making me feel so comfortable. While I practiced my Spanish, she practiced her English. This was my first time eating an arepa, and Doggi's Arepa did not disappoint! Lunch time was packed, so we opted for takeout to avoid the cramped seating.  The cashier happily recommended and explained his faves: Arepa Santa Barbara, Arepa Tripleta, and Arepa la 10. He took our number down, told us it'd be ready in 15 minutes, and would send a text when the food was ready.  The Arepa La 10 was great! Despite our request for medium-rare and receiving mostly medium-well beef, the churrasco was super tender. The homemade chimichurri was a major bonus - its acidity cut into the richness and heaviness of the cheese and meat.  I'd love to come back for more arepas! read more

Don't let too much time go by between your visits to Doggi's! This is the location closest to me, but I've also been to the one in Doral and it was equally good. So, there's consistency between the locations, which is very, very important. You know you want an Arepa, a Doggi's Arepa, and at least those two locations are consistently good. I'll try other locations, but I'm optimistic after trying this one. I had the Arepa de Pabellón, which is filled with sweet fried plantains (maduros), shredded beef stew (flank steak), black beans, and cheese. One is a full meal. I also go the soursop (guanabana) juice, which was way too sweet, but the soursop flavor did shine through all that sugar. read more

It is a local gem for the people that want some good authentic Venezuelan food, cost effective with a friendly atmosphere. A hole in the wall with a wait list at times. The most you might wait is 15 to 45 at any given time but I'm here to tell you, is worth it. If you're here to reminisce about Venezuelan food because la abuela used to cook some delicious arepas, this is the place to get that fix! You can go in and out and it will probably be faster than sitting down on the weekend. Space is limited and so are some of the items on the menu. Consistently good Venezuelan Arepas with quick service. Wife and I were in the mood for a quick dinner and Doggi's Arepa Bar was the choice. We've been to Doggi's many times in the past and they always come through. Food is out rather quickly. I normally go with the Arepa Pabellion which has fried plantains, black beans, shredded beef and shredded white cheese. I also ask them if possible to have the beef be more on the dryer side so as to make the Arepa not as messy to eat. My wife loves getting their Cachapas which is a corn based pancake with cheese inside. Also very delicious. They also always provide a trio of sauces white, green and pink. I typically hoard the pink sauce which is a basically a mix of ketchup and mayo. If you haven't tried then you definitely missing out. And I also try to stick with the Venezuelan theme and grab a Polar beer to accompany my meal. They aren't a very big restaurant as they probably fit about 30 people or so. So it can be full at times and you might need to wait particularly during busy hours. Also parking is a bit tricky as it's only street parking and can be scarce particularly if they or surrounding businesses are busy. But all in all Doggi's consistently serves good food with a quick turnaround. read more

Still reviewing from my birthday month haha -- the original plan was to go to a Jamaican restaurant in the neighborhood... but it closed down! We saw that there was an arepa spot nearby, and I decided it was a great move because it's been so long since I last had one. Fun fact: I've only had it once in DC. So we found the place, parked and went inside. I immediately caught on to all the retro stickers and stuff on the walls... good stuff! Johnny Quest?? The kids today would never... anyways, went to the register and went straight to the arepa section of the menu. They also serve a variety of appetizers and entrees. I got an arepa that had plantain and cheese in it and it was surprisingly filling! It stayed hot for a long time, and it was bursting with flavor... a perfect balance. A local Venezuelan fast food chain, I'd stopped by their location in the Upper East Side back around Christmas to order their Christmas special "Pan de Jamón" (bread filled with ham, raisins and olives). Although I forgot to review, I enjoyed it. So when I was hungry and in the area this past Saturday, I stopped by for lunch. Let me get it out of the way: parking can be a mission. It's located on the corner of Coral Way and 12th Avenue with various other shops and businesses so good luck finding street parking. Service is akin to a fast food, though there was at least a casual walk by from the server. I will say their flan recommendation was pretty accurate. The flan although a little denser than I usually love it was still tasty. The strawberry garnish on top was a nice touch. My main was a decently sized breaded chicken breast with black beans. Make sure to ask for their spicy sauce since they just bring out the garlic cilantro. The fried plantains were nicely sweet and sprinkled with cotija cheese. Be sure to check out their art walls with Venezuelan street slang and vintage adverts. read more
