Following the Latin-themed progression of meals we've been having, it only made sense to try another spot in Miami. After looking over some photos, we were intrigued by stuffed arepas which hails from Venezuelan cuisine. The restaurant wasn't too busy for lunch so we were seated immediately. I got the Create Your Own Breakfast, with steak ($5), over-easy eggs ($3), grilled white cheese ($3) and I added an arepa ($1) as well. In total, $14 for a breakfast plate, not cheap at all. We also got a plate of the fried rice to share between the four of us. The plate comes with all the items separated, so now comes the messy part of putting it all together. The arepa itself was pretty doughy, and after a few attempts of trying to stuff the items into the arepa, I gave up and just ate them all separately. It became steak & eggs with a side of cheese and doughy bread. The fried rice was decent, a bit heavy on the sauce pour so it was pretty salty. Nothing against this establishment, but I'm personally not a fan of the arepa, I was expecting something more crunchy and light, but it was soft and heavy and after absorbing the sauces, it became soggy. Really good place to eat. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable. The service is excellent. The combination between Peruvian and Venezuelan cuisine is magnificent. I tried the T-bone steak and is really soft and juicy. Sautéed shrimp is also good. The chicha is one of my favorite sweet drinks and here is the best one in town. Great choice and our first stop in Miami. Boca, did not disappoint. The food was definitely 5 stars. The experience was probably 3-4. We arrived on a Sunday, at 11AM, a few other diners, were there, along with a larger group. We were seated immediately. As with most restaurants since since covid we were asked to scan a QR code, to view the menu. The QR Code was a small metal plaque, attached to table, at each place setting. We scanned the code multiple times to no avail. At that point, we asked for an actual menu. The menu that we were presented with, was a partial menu which we also found out later was an old menu, with outdated pricing. Once we realized that the menu presented listed limited items, (no Arepas), I then went to the website, on my phone, to view a full menu, and proceeded to order. Hubby ordered a margarita and I ordered a sangria, and both were outstanding. We then proceeded to order our food, we both opted for the wok smoked chicken arepas. I ordered a side of sweet plantains, and Hubby ordered fries. Our food arrived a short time later, and the arepas were delicious. Large portion, and super flavorful. The arepas were accompanied by a cilantro crema, Which was the perfect accompaniment. The sides were good too! Our server Axl, was efficient, and professional. It was not at ALL, his fault, based on what happened next. We received our bill, and the arepas that were priced at $9.99 on the website, were listed at almost 2x the price on our bill. The server did his best to explain that the current pricing was listed on menu, that was accessible via the QR Code, which we could not access. He calls over the manager, and she proceeds to explain, the same scenario, but also mentions that QR codes are a new addition, and that there have been issues with access. I think it bothered me most that there were 3 ways to access a menu and each option presented different items and pricing. How hard is it to update the website? After a little bit of back-and-forth. Checked out Boca's Grill this past Saturday night, after receiving multiple recommendations from coworkers. We did not have a reservation, however we were sat right away. The ambiance is ok, nothing crazy, it was nice and casual but still nice enough for a date night. We ordered the mixed platter to share (tostones, yucca, steak, chicken, sausage and guacamole) it was presented beautifully but wasn't worth the price in my opinion. The chicken was dry, yucca flavorless but the tostones were tasty as was the steak. To me the highlights of the evening were the blue sangria (made with blue wine) and the chocolate churro milk shake. Yes chocolate churro milkshake...it is phenomenal! Went to Bocas Grill for dinner on a recent trip to Miami and it was great. Being Venezuelan this is my comfort food, the food I most crave, and it was great. We ordered the sampler appetizer: arepitas, tequeños and delicious cheese, everything was very good. I had a parchita juice/frozen slushie type and it was SO good. Looove anything passion fruit.
