Excellent food and environment all around. The milkshake was one of the best I've had and seriously was amazing. Had the arepa with steak and was great. The bread is on the dense side so it fills you up very quick. In addition there are stuff fried cheese that is very very good. I want to love this place I really do. It's so convenient for me because of the location. Don't let the name fool you though. They aren't in Brickell they are in the Roads. The food so far is great each time I go but the service is ALWAYS lacking. I don't know where they get the employees but we always have trouble. The waitresses we have always seem bothered or confused or both. I have been several times and will continue to go because of the location and the food. I just wish they would train their servers better. The ones I've had were not knowledgeable on the menu and couldn't answer basic questions. read more

My father and I went to Bocas for lunch for the first time and had a great experience. The place itself is very clean and well decorated, they have indoor and outdoor seating as well as complimentary valet. Since the inside was decorated so beautifully we choose inside seating. The waiter (Gustavo) was very attentive and the service was great. We ordered from the lunch menu which was very well priced at $8.99 which included a variety or salads and entrees. The portions were large and delicious, lots of flavor arrived in a timely fashion. We started with the pumpkin soup then I had the Arroz al wok Especial de pollo (chicken fried rice) and my father had the Pabellón Criollo (shredded beef w/rice & beans & plantains) overall we cleared our plates and went home full and satisfied. Had lunch at Bocas Grill Brickell on a Sunday afternoon. With a small party we decided to share the Appetizer Sampler, Fried Green Plantains With Wok Smoked Lomo Steak, Arepa Llanera, Pabellon Criollo, and Grilled Skirt Steak. Quality With no food at the house and not wanting to drive anywhere, decided to take a quick walk over to Bocas Grill Brickell. Bocas has grown exponentially in the past few years and I had not had an opportunity to check out the new-ish location nearby. We started our meal with the Appetizer Sampler, which comes with mini arepas, cheese fingers, guayanes cheese, crema, and cilantro aioli. I enjoyed the platter primarily because of the cilantro aioli. The sauce worked great with everything and should be included in more dishes. Next came the Grilled Skirt Steak, which was fine but nothing too special. In a place with some outrageous dishes, this is something that cane be avoided. Instead get your steak fix with the Fried Green Plantains With Wok Smoked Lomo Steak. This would be the only must order dish I had. Tostones covered with white cheese and pieces of tender steak, it made for a magically bite. We also ordered two Arepas, the Arepa Llanera that came with beef, chopped avocado, and cheese, and the Pabellon Criollo, which had shredded beef, sweet plantain, black beans, and shredded white cheese. I preferred the Arepa Llanera, but by this point in the meal everyone was struggling. It is definitely easy to order too much food here. Quantity In my experience Bocas does not let you leave hungry, and this location was no different. The portion sizes are gigantic and you are probably better off ordering less than you think you need. Our group of three ended up taking half the plantains and one of the arepas home. They stayed well and were devoured later, but still expect everything to come out larger than expected. Value While at first glance the prices may seem a bit high, once the plates roll out you understand. Each one is packed full of food and is made to be shared. Ambiance Bocas Grill Brickell is located just outside Brickell along Coral Way in The Roads. Taking up a massive space below an apartment building, it looks to succeed where many other restaurants have failed. A big plus is the decision to create a large outdoor patio space. It was a beautiful day so most people wanted to take advantage, and they had plenty of tables for them to do so. This also allowed for people to bring their dogs along. Inside the space follows the industrial chic style that is in line with the brand. They have a bar area near the front and then plenty of seating all around it. Inside they had music playing in the background, but it did not really reach the outdoor area well. They may need to expand the speakers to help liven up the mood some. Crowd I have seen several different places open in this location without much success, but it seems like the more established Bocas brand may buck that trend. We ended up sitting at the last available outdoor table and there were a good amount of folks inside as well. It still is a big space that likely will never be completely filled, but considering the crowd for Sunday lunch, they clearly have found a niche. The crowd was very family friendly and it also seemed largely Hispanic. Being in Miami that is not a big surprise, but I also feel it is a testament to the quality of the food. Service Not only was our server not very good, but he also was delusional. When I showed the check-in offer, the waiter requested that we mention him specifically in our review. Well he took forever to make his first visit to our table. He required us to dig into our Spanish to get the order correct. And then he disappeared until the end of the meal. Luckily the rest of the staff picked up his slack by keeping our glasses filled and making sure we got the extra plates and utensils we needed. I also have to mention that the food is pretty slow to come out. I would be worried about the wait if visiting during work lunch. Parking Just a short stroll from my apartment, we ended up making the walk over. The restaurant has a valet set up to facilitate parking, but street spots can be found nearby as well. Extra Bocas Grill is certainly a welcomed addition to the area. With solid food and a good atmosphere it is absolutely a place I would return. However, they may still need some time to work out inconsistencies in service and the slow wait time for food to come out. read more

Antonella was a great waitress. The service is great here. It was quick and very kind but the food was alright in my opinion. The mini parrilla Mixta and the Bocas burger is great. This review is long overdue but better late than never, right? I stumbled upon this place while searching for a place to eat and due to its highly-rated reviews, I decided to give it a try. It was my first time, obviously, but if I am ever in Miami again, I will definitely come again! Ok, now to the important part. Everything on their menu sounded delicious, but ultimately, I decided on the Pabellón Criollo arepa. Love the mixture of sweet and savory flavors from the plantains and the meat. The filling was great, but the dough was a little bit too hard for my liking. The sangrias, on the other hand, were AMAZING! Hands down, the BEST I've tried thus far! My friend agreed as well. I tried one of each kind...or maybe two. LOL! The best part? We didn't know it was happy hour when we went so the drinks were half-off. WINNING! Hell, I would not have mind paying full price for that sangria. I wish we discovered this place sooner, because it was our last day in town. We visited Bocas Grill on Sunday evening for the first time. I chose it based on the reviews it had received. We ordered the special arepa, Arepa Llanera, stuffed with beef, avocado and white cheese. We also ordered the grilled filet of white fish with two sides. Personally, I would only give the Arepa Llanera 2 stars because the beef, although nicely seasoned, was quite tough, with too much fat and grizzle. The avocado mixture was delicious. The white cheese had no flavor, and the arepa itself was bland and dry. The fish filet, however was perfectly grilled (it was mahi mahi), delicious and deserves 5 stars. I also have to compliment the milkshakes. Although we did not order one - we saw them and they are spectacular. At $14.00, they better be! They are huge and would easily satisfy 4 people, who just want a small dessert, or make two big eaters very happy! The service was excellent; our waitress (I apologize because I did not catch her name) deserves high praise. She took very good care of us. The hostess was also very attentive and concerned about our comfort. The acoustics of the dining room are poor. Even though the dining room was not filled; the place was very noisy. Do not come here for quiet conversation; or if you do - sit outdoors. They have a nice sidewalk patio, although it is rather warm this time of year. Hanging out with my mom, decided to stop by Bocas Grill on Saturday at around 245pm. They set up a table for two promptly. The service was great and the food was delicious. My mom had the Boca salad and I had the arepa llanera. The salad was crisp and the dressing flavorful and the steak was cooked perfectly. Lastly, we ordered the Nutella crepe.
