I have eaten at BBQ restaurants all across America (dine-in and take-out), and I must say I was underwhelmed by my visit. I was first taken aback at the outrageous prices. I placed a take out order of 1 pound of ribs and two 1/2 chickens, and I was quoted $50! Prices were not displayed for meat by the pound (as far as I observed), so I modified the order to a 1/2 rack of ribs and the aforementioned chicken. This brought the price to approximately $38 ( still expensive for what I ordered, compared to other restaurants). Apparently, their business model focuses almost exclusively on plate dinners with sides, which I personally am not a fan of. But, oh well. The taste and quality of the meats were good - the ribs were thick, meaty, with very little visible fat. The chicken was also pretty good quality, but underseasoned. I thought it odd that the meats were presented tightly wrapped in cellophane. Additionally, neither the ribs nor chicken had any browning, charring, or grill marks- which leads me to assume that perhaps they were cooked in an indoor smoker instead of an actual pit. As a result, my live-in niece chose not to eat the chicken because it looked more like baked chicken (which she doesn't like) than barbecue. Based on my overall experience, I can only rate this establishment 3 stars. read more

This little hole in the wall restaurant is on Barksdale Blvd. about 5-10 min from Barksdale AFB. It kind of looks like a converted convenience store. On the inside, eclectic decorations cover the walls. It has a very charming small town feel. The restaurant was clean and with the amount of patrons, well maintained. The wait staff were cordial and but you could tell that the line almost out the door was starting to take its toll. She was quick to take our orders, gave us our drinks, and moved to the next costumer. All and all, she did a great job. Now, to what you want, the food. The interior is quaint with country flourishes but the kitchen was hopping. We didn't have any wait to order our meat plates with sides. We all tried the brisket which was smoked well, tender, and quite flavorful. I tried the smoked sausage (both spicy and plain), my wife the chicken, and my daughter the ribs, along with some various sides. Everything was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared an order of the beignet fries, which can best be compared to a funnel cake. After the huge portions on our plates, we couldn't finish the dessert, but we left well-fed and ready for more wrestling. The place like many restaurants in the area, is run down and in need of a good cleaning. The staff while friendly, could not seem to get our order right. Being a vegetarian at a barbecue place is often difficult. So the only option really for me was the "Bochos". Which are nachos meant to have brisket on them. I of course ordered them without. So they ended up having chips, barbecue sauce, nacho cheese, sour cream and jalapeños. They wouldn't have been bad, had they not completely drowned them in the awful nacho cheese. We have eaten at this place for many years, although we live almost at the Texas line so it is only every once in a while that we go there. Good, but just too far for us, both timewise and gaswise. My favorite is the Botato. We get it with the double brisket and extra butter and sour cream. I ask them to cut it long ways and leave the foil off. Then we slather it with barbq sauce and each have one half. It is just plenty for both of us and WE are both stuffed. We have had the peppered sausage and it is very good also, but we do not care for anything else on the menu. Tried the red beans and rice, very let down on that. No flavor. And the french fried potatoes are FROZEN! We saw that they are going to open a place in Shreveport, which would be way better for us, but they have no idea when they will open. Saw the place months ago and looked as if it were about to open, called the Bossier location they said in May. Called today and the guy said no one knows when. It is under wraps. So I am beginning to think maybe never. It is the owners son who is opening the place so you would think THEY would know something. Am close to giving up on that.
