Very attentive staff and good food. The portions were very generous. Dinner and dessert were more than enough to fill me up. Very cool atmosphere down there as well. Regardless of what you generally like to eat, you will find something on the menu that works for you. Would eat here again on my next stop through town.

This is our 1st visit to the city of Hood River, on a Tuesday night. We found this restaurant based on yo reviews. The restaurant is in the middle of downtown and under street level. This is a small restaurant. We are the only order party in the entire restaurant. The hostess and waitress was very helpful with our order. Nice food and service.

I've been here a couple of times now, and had the same experience twice. The wait staff (lady with short hair) is very polite, friendly and attentive but in no way overbearing. CON: They don't have sparkling water (most places in HR don't) and the bread you get with dinner is mediocre at best...very best. PRO: The service is really good, the food is delicious! I haven't had any meat dishes here, so I have no idea how they might taste. But the pasta and sauces are spot on! As far as "Italian" food goes, this is the tastiest in hood river.

The pasta is simply amazing!!! A family-owned restaurant that's friendly, fast, and has very tasty food!! I tried the Linguine Carbonara and it was delicious!! The owner was working alone serving and not once was frazzled or hurried. He got our food out pretty fast and checked in on us. Super friendly and kind! Definitely recommend this place!

Great food - wife and I tried different pastas that were both pretty good. Couldn't go wrong with our deep fried pickle appetizer either. The name of the restaurant doesn't lie - a dark, cozy basement atmosphere. Pretty lonely on a Thursday night in November but that was perfect for us.

We are new to town and we've already had two recommendations for The Subterranean. We went for dinner tonight and it was heavenly! We shared a Caesar salad and a pasta special (Linguine Milanese?), with tiramisu for dessert. All were delicious! The pasta was incredibly good and I'm glad to hear it's earned a permanent spot on the menu. We can't wait to go back and try a steak. Glad to know of this fun little spot.

So if you are traveling thru Hood River on the Columbia River Gorge You must stop to eat at the Subterranean restaurant- steakhouse. Adam & I decided to share each other's choices. I went with the Salmon Dill Aoli special with side veggies. It was amazing! Adam kept raving about the piece he ate. We also got their Flat Iron steak which was very tasty. Hubby got the garlic mash. Great service. Family owned and operated.

The atmosphere is casual and inviting but the food, both quality and presentation, steals the show. We tried a gin cocktail that was as beautiful as it was inventive. We followed this with the brussel sprouts salad which was lightly roasted but still tasted and looked green in the most delightful way, with some kind of light dressing that celebrates the vegetables in the salad medley without overpowering them. We took Calvin's recommendation and ordered the special which was a three mushroom fettuccine: it was perfection. The pasta was served al dente, the mushrooms included shitake, hedgehog, and one other and all had a unique flavor that stood out with each bite. The pasta sauce was buttery but somehow almost effervescent, embracing but not suffocating, with just enough cheese to know it's there but not enough to have it overpower the dish. At this point we didn't think the meal could get any better but then we ordered the pear, huckleberry, and pluot sorbet made at Celilo and we're now committed to coming back. The sorbet featured locally sourced Bosc pears and that flavor may have been my favorite as it was unlike any other sorbet I have ever tasted. All were sweet but complex. Simply an amazing dining experience that I recommend to anyone fortunate enough to get a table here!

Table service could use some improvement, not for lack of attention, but for too much of it. My companion's plate was immediately whisked away while I was still only half way through mine, which made me feel as if I was being rushed. On top of that, our server brought a dessert menu while I was still eating my main. Then another server came and asked if he could take my plate while was, again, still eating. And it was a midweek night, the place was maybe half full. It's as if they were trying to set record time for getting us in and out the door. To management - please be mindful of your portions and give your customers space, and time, to enjoy their meals.

Not a friendly place for large groups…read more We were really the only group of people in there and I thought we'd get good service because of that. Our group came in two chunks and the host seemed annoyed by that. They pushed together another table and sat us together. It was kinda stuffy in the place so I opened up a window as it needed some fresh air. I was told it would possibly mess up the airflow of their kitchen? Some of us decided to split from the main group and sit out on the patio because of the stuffiness. The menu is for carnivores with a veggie burger and grill cheese for vegetarians but not really anything but chips and salsa for vegans. We also found out they only take 1 credit card and cash and no split bills. We were a large group of 14 people. It was a huge pain in the rear to figure out the mess. Honestly some of our party left and went elsewhere when they find that out. Not everyone had enough cash to cover them. When my burger came out they served it to the wrong person and we didn't figure it out for at least 10 minutes. So I got an already eaten plate. It was ok but they should be able to know who ordered what. Our waitress seemed annoyed by us and honestly not that friendly. My burger was overcooked and tasted like cardboard. There were no condiments like mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise on the table. We had to go get some. Just not a good experience here. I won't be back. I ordered my burger and fries and asked for it cooked medium.

I've never had a bad meal at this delicious restaurant! The service is always friendly too.read more
