Bodo's makes really excellent bagels. Like, really good. My favorite by far is the everything bagel which is loaded with stuff and is deliciously salty. There's even a fair bit of "topping" that makes it onto the usually unloved, bottom half of the bagel! Everything I've tried is good, although I do wish there were a few more flavors. Cinnamon raisin is the only true sweet option. It's nice that this location is open until 8pm--you can pick up bagels for the next morning, and they stay fresh! The staff is super efficient, and even when there's a long line first thing in the morning, they move quickly. The bagel prices are reasonable, something like $0.80 each. I think prices for bagel sandwiches are a little much. Every sandwich topping is priced individually, so you don't have to work too hard to make a $7 bagel sandwich. Wow, I can't believe this place hasn't gotten five stars all the way. First, the bagels are really good - no, not the best in the world, but really good. No, you cannot get the bagels toasted, but you'll get used to it and they are almost always warm anyway. Their sanwiches are fantastic. You can get egg bagel sandwiches any time of day. Their hummus is really good. Try the avocado or kalamata olive spreads. The salads are great. The coffee is also surprisingly good. Some of the magic of this place is how ridiculously fast they are. I have bad-mouthed Bodos some in the past and seem to have an ax to grind with them, but truth be told I go there a lot because they have good food and fast, clean service. I am officially dropping my bias towards them and giving in to what my saliva gland is telling me...namely I must really like the place! My personal favorite is the "Sausage Cheddar" which is their lingo for the everything bagel with a sausage patty and a thick slice of cheddar cheese. It is good comfort food, melts in your mouth and goes great with their tasty coffee. Man, I really do love their coffee too. I just don't get it yet. When I told people I was moving to Charlottesville, no fewer than three of my friends said, "ohmigod, you've got to check out this bagel place... Bodo's is the greatest." The "everything" bagel itself was on point but I only treat myself to one bagel a year so it needs to be perfection. Wanted butter and asked simply if they used "butter" or "whipped butter". Told "butter" so asked for a "enough butter so I know it is there :), and on a cold bagel so it would not melt. Service is fast, place is busy so perhaps they think people will be satisfied with speed and not bother to return a messed up order? I was a little nervous about how long it was going to take because the seating was pretty full and there was a decently long line to order the food, but I shouldn't have worried! Everything moves so fast at this location. It took no time at all to get our bagels and coffee. I got a plain bagel with lox cream cheese. They put on so much lox cream cheese that I felt bad because I needed to take so much off. I'm a fan!, I normally I don't finish a whole bagel because I feel bad eating so much carbohydrate but the bagels here will make you want to finish the whole thing and eat another. The bagels are soft and tender and their sandwich fillings/toppings are great including Jewish classics like chopped liver or cream cheese and lox. The people are friendly and the service is fast. Delicious bagels. Too bad staff are arrogant and dismissive. The parking lot guy taking orders was great. Young woman at the window was a terror when I told her what she was handing me was not my order amd she just kept handing me more. I told her these are clearly two egg sandwiches, I ordered one bagel with cream cheese. These are clearly a dozen bagels with everything and I ordered an assortment. She acted as if she just wanted me to take it and keep going. I insisted this isn't my order and tried to hand it back to her amd she wouldn't take it. Then another guy came and took it back and they found my order and coffee. I looked in my dozen assorted and all but one were dark wheat and or Raisin. I said this is not an assortment. There's only three different kinds in the bag, maybe four. She replied "we can keep taking things back". Oh my. I kept my cool and tried handing her back the bagels. She wouldn't take them. Then guy took them believing I wasn't going to just drive away and he lectured me on what assortment meant. I got my assortment. I was taken here over the weekend by some local C-ville friends. They claimed these were some famous bagels & they turned out to be pretty decent. It was line out the door busy when we arrived, but the line moved so fast that this first timer still didn't know what she wanted when we were standing in front of the cashier. You won't find many Sunday morning breakfast places on the main street where Bodo's is located near UVA. So when you come here expect it to be pretty crowded. Fortunately the line moves along well and the service is quick. My parents and I stopped into Bodo's before starting our day of winery touring. For morning breakfast, your choices fall mainly between either an egg stuffed or a cream cheese stuffed bagel. Or you can opt to go plain. There is a lot to choose from though from the preparation of the egg, meat, cream cheese flavor, and of course bagel flavor. I ordered an egg white sandwich with Swiss cheese on a whole wheat bagel. Good, satisfying, but nothing special. I guess I understand from a speed standpoint why you cannot ask for your bagel toasted BUT I would have liked that. Fortunately, the bagels are served pretty warm. Aside from the toasting matter, my biggest suggestion for improvement would be to make the paper plates bigger and double them up or provider a thicker, sturdier one. The single tiny 6" disposable paper plate isn't the best foundation for a stuffed bagel and doesn't hold up that well to the weight, grease, or even a knife. If you're looking for quick service, a decent egg sandwich and hot coffee at a low price, Bodo's Bagels is good spot. read more

Probably, my favorite, most frequented spot in C-ville for bagels/breakfast/lunch. Service is fast, whether it's for a couple, or a crowd. They have a efficient system, supported by great employees that never make the experience feel rushed, even though they work at a fast pace. They support and serve quality C-Ville-made products (like "No Bull Burger") and do all their bagels on site. I usually buy sandwiches for the moment for my party and also bagels/house-made cream cheese to go for the next few days breakfast. This is also a great choice for feeding a large party for breakfast if you need to and don't know the town. Bagels get a discount if they're ordered by the dozen. I recommend calling ahead of time to make an order though, especially if you have a large party. This is just a courtesy to make sure that they make enough bagels to supply both your group and the restaurant. They are cranking it from open to close. They want you to to be happy as well as their regular customers. read more

Without a doubt, the best bagels I have had in my life. Every time I am back in the 'ville I absolutely must visit Bodo's. Seriously. They're perfect. Heard about how good this place was from my girlfriend for years and we finally made it back to her college town from Colorado to get some for myself. I love bagel sandwiches and really wanted to love this place, but the dirty interior really bothered me. If I lived here in Charlottesville I would probably either visit another location than the one on Preston Ave, or I would just get the bagels to go. None of the tables were wiped down, and there were loads of crumbs and other disgusting things all over the floors. I totally get that they were busy, but seriously it seems like someone should be wiping tables and sweeping every once in a while. OMG.... drove from Richmond to have a bagel here. Crazy I know. Well guess what. I would totally do it again! Don't be intimated by the line out the door. It moves quickly and efficiently. It's easy to order him a bagel exactly the way you like it. Plenty of toppings, vegetables and meats to choose from. The bagels are a three-star. I've had amazing bagels in NYC, and these are pretty damn good, but not 4- or 5-star. The selection is great, and you can get a lot of combinations, all of which seem pretty tasty (I had four different types while there -- no I'm not a pig, I shared!). The staff is uneven -- one girl was super friendly to us, one guy was downright rude, which is totally not cool in a small college town. In DC, yeah, everyone's rude, so I'd expect it, but in Charlottesville, where everyone was nice, he really stood out and it kinda colored my perception of the place.
