You can't go to Charlottesville and not go to Bodo's. It is a Charlottesville institution. They have the best bagels anywhere. The service is quick. When I moved to Washington, DC, I could barely make it through a weekend without Bodo's bagels. The coffee isn't great, but I needed it on those mornings after college parties. My usual is an everything bagel (the best) with cream cheese. They are very generous on the toppings. My other choices all involve an everything bagel with a) fake cream cheese which is just as good, something like neufchatel, b) lox cream cheese, or avacado, salt, mayo, and tomato. My boyfriend gets the strange combo of everything bagel with PB&J. Also, try the Cleo salad- one of the best salads I've ever had! If you go to Charlottesville, you must get a Bodo's bagel. Bodos is a Charlottesville staple. They're delicious, cheap, and fast. Of course at lunch rush you may have an issue with eating in but you will get your food quickly. Although I no longer live in Charlottesville I always drop by bodos for lunch when I am in the area. This is a must stop. read more

Please bring back the original hummus recipe! I just had my first Bodo's bagel w hummus and veggies since they "tweaked" their hummus recipe, and I ended up throwing it out. The hummus was oddly spicy (I'm a spice wimp, and hummus is usually totally inoffensive as far as spice level goes!) and had an unusual flavor. I'm so sad. :( read more

I tried to come here on a Sunday morning, but the line was insanely long (out the door, down the sidewalk, and curving around the parking lot) and it didn't seem to be moving that quickly. I was really hungry and decided that I didn't want to wait that long so I left. I came back for breakfast on a weekday around 10:00, and the wait was much more reasonable. It only took about 10 minutes total to order and get my bagel. I really enjoyed my bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, and it was cheap! However, I don't think it would be worth the long line on the weekend. I would recommend trying it on a weekday first and then deciding if it's worth the wait. I'll probably go again and try something else (only on a weekday), but I think it's slightly overrated. read more

Bodo's was a random find on a road trip, but a gem! We love bagels and make it a sandwich - hello amazing! With a wide selection of bagel types, condiments and toppings (sprouts available!), you can build a pretty dreamy sandwich on any budget. We spent less than $10 for two bagel sandwiches and a salad - big score! Not to mention, the food was fresh and delicious. We'll be hitting up Bodo's on our way home! The restaurant space was pretty dated and dingy. But, we easily looked past it. They were staffed for a mini bagel war - and, they were all so friendly! Incredibly scrumptious! If you love bagels or sometimes have the urge to entertain the idea of eating a bagel, you have got to indulge in Bodos. Let's be honest, bagels have the subconscious reminder that eating too many, put too many unwanted extra-ness in all the bad places on your body, but this is A DIFFERENT STORY! Their bagels are phenomenal. So ever since I got here, people seemed to have orgasms every time they talked about this place. "Ohh...it's sooo good!" "It's the greatest bagel ever!" I finally went to the Bagelry today and judging by the line out the door, I told myself that I better start pooping gold after I eat this bagel, cause this is ridiculous. I went up to the counter, ordered an Onion bagel with Herb Spread (a NY bagel place calling it a spread and not a smear? I thought this was suppose to be authentic). I sat down, I bit into it, and I thought, "Typical Charlottesville. You've fooled me once again with your hype of everything that's supposed to be awesome of this town." Bagel was fine. Not great, not bad, but I've definitely had better. I ain't waiting in line for it, but if someone bought a dozen, I'll take one. I just don't get what the big deal is. C-Villians need to get out more often and realize that there is life outside of this bubble. If you're from NY and you just HAAAVE to have your bagel fix, there's probably not a better place in town than here. But if Bagels aren't the center of your life, because you actually have one, then come by once in awhile and grab one if you want. Went with the blueberry cream cheese, sounded great in my head, was a bit disappointed, I expected a blueberry punch of flavor- but really just tasted of cream. Wow, this place is bagel heaven. While I'm not a bagel snob, since I grew up on the east coast, I know a legit bagel from a not-so-authentic one. These are the real deal and woah are they delicious. I had an everything bagel sandwich with turkey, cheese, mayo and veg. While it sounds like a normal bagel sandwich, there is something magical about the bagel that takes this sandwich to a whole other level I rarely get to experience. This has to be one of the most over rated places I have ever been. The parking lot is teeming with traffic, the line is out the door, and the food is just awful. To be fair, the Caesar salad was very good. The chicken salad was made with gelatinous hunks of protein embedded in an overly heavy mayo dressing. These chunks only were recognizable as chicken after careful examination; I am a retired pathologist so I am good at recognizing abnormal forms of normal things. I was sure it was egg whites, but it was far more disturbing than that. The bagel is average at best. I just don't get it, but it was so disgusting that I will spend no additional effort to try to figure it out. read more

Alright. So while I still think the bagels themselves are pretty average, I somehow keep finding myself coming back to get their bagel sandwiches. In particular, a Chicken Salad sandwich with lettuce, onion, and tomato on an everything bagel. It's delicious. I think the key to this particular combination is the everything bagel. Once the chewy bagel is toasted, the bits of onion, garlic, sesame, and poppy seed add texture and savory flavors to the smooth, creamy, and refreshing chicken salad. Balance that with some fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions and you've got yourself a pretty wonderful (and addictive) sandwich. read more

Well as a born and raised Ch'villian I obviously grew up and loved Bodo's. My high school years were spent eating an "everything bagel" with egg for breakfast each Saturday morning or a Pastrami sandwich later that day. My mom or step-dad would go there EVERY Saturday during my high school years to pick up breakfast for my sister and I and our friends that crashed over. It became a weekly ingrained routine. My step-dad also would go there almost every morning, in fact he still goes there a lot and he used to go there so much that he would accidentally start driving towards Bodo's from our house even when we were supposed to go somewhere else. We would refer to it as the "Bodo's route!" Having lived in Boston now for 10 years I still make it a point to go to Bodo's each time I visit Charlottesville to see friends and family (about twice a year). It's fun to go there because you never know what familiar faces you may run into. Now that I'm vegan I appreciate still being able to eat there. All their bagels are amazing (obviously) and I love the Twin Oaks tofu they offer with lettuce and tomato, or a bagel with hummus spread. They also have good soups too. I don't like being rushed on their crazy morning and lunch rushes, if you need to ask questions about your order it can be pretty intimidating; but overall their staff is very friendly. My only complaints are that a) it's very wasteful there. Between the paper cups, plates, and plastic utensils and salad containers, this place produces A LOT of trash. I wish they would use more reusable plates, cups, and utensils for people eating on-site. My other issue is that the menu pretty much hasn't changed in 10 years. I mean don't fix something that's not broken but maybe evolve a little bit? It is the 21st century and there are a lot more vegetarians and vegans now than there were 10 years ago. Why are my options the same as they were last decade? I hope they can add a vegan cream cheese, more vegan toppings, and maybe even a vegan Caesar salad to their menu (boy do I miss their amazing Caesar salads!! The smell alone brings back nostalgia of being in the car with my mom when I was 16 when she used to eat one multiple times a week). Just expand the menu a little bit, nothing crazy. I enjoy a good bagel sandwich. I found for a bagel place the options to be underwhelming. In the limited options I settled on the garlic bagel which the garlic tasted burnt and I felt ruined the entire sandwich. Probably would not return given the chance. read more

Sweet Baby Jebus this place is fantastic. As a massive, massive bagel fan, I am so, so jealous this place is in Charlottesville and not somewhere I am more often. I LOVE salt bagels. I've tried to get a good salt bagel in Northern VA but have not had any luck. I had to be in Charlottesville for work and couldn't leave without a stop at Bodo's. There was a huge line but it went fast and is worth it. I had lox and cream cheese on a bagel with onions. They got my order wrong initially but they fixed it with no problems. Their bagels are as good as I've had outside of NYC. Please branch out to DC! read more

I grew up in Charlottesville and now live in New York. I frequent H & H bagels (considered the best bagel in NYC by most) and Bodos remains the best bagel that has graced my palette.
