Bodo's Bagels is a great cheap place for lunch on the Corner. I stick to the classic, cream cheese and lox on an everything wheat bagel. Turkey with the works plus avocado is delicious as well. I would recommend staying AWAY from the soups. I had a chicken noodle and I finished the bowl without finding one piece of chicken. Their salads are simple, but good. However, for the best bang for your buck stick to the bagels! I'd give it 4 stars, but their coffee alone deserves 5! Their BoJoe is the BEST coffee on the corner!!! read more

Apparently this is a local's favorite bagel place so we had to try on during our stay in this town. I got an egg sausage bagel and had to admit it was good. But I honestly don't think it's exceptional. This location is right next to UVA so it's frequented by a lot of students and professors. Since it's a breakfast spot, I guess people dont care that much about interiors - I still do. I have grown up in the New York area but absolutely love these bagels. At first was put-off by the no-toast option, but now I don't care because the bagels are soft and doughy and WARM. We were really excited to try these after seeing great reviews online. The coffee was decent but we ended up being very disappointed, though, as the bagel sandwich was poor quality. The sesame bagel was really good but I probably should have gotten the plain cream cheese instead of the herb BECAUSEEE they put a LOT of cream cheese on there (which is great considering the cost) and it was a little overwhelming for me. This is a Charlottesville institution and I don't know why. While the bagels are okay, they won't toast my bagel. Why?? I prefer a toasted bagel with a great cream cheese. They do however have a wide variety of spreads that are all good and interesting. The blueberry one is surprisingly good. Although the line is always long on weekends it goes by really quickly as the staff are super efficient. Bodo's is perfect for a quick breakfast or for grabbing food for a group of people. Just remember to bring a bagel knife as they won't slice them if your order is too large. read more

Completely fair place. I'm not one to go out of my way for bagels, but when I'm traveling, I like to kick it NYC style and try out their bagel + cream cheese + lox. Bodo's was offering it for $6.50 which was a huge bargain from my usual $10-15 fix in Brooklyn. The line extended all the way to the door, wrapping around the inner wall of the establishment, and it seemed as if most of the clientele were UVA students (which makes sense, since it's on campus). Our order arrived quickly and efficiently as they called our number and we exchanged receipts for the food. My first impression was that the sandwich was smaller than I'm used to. The cream cheese was melted since the bagel was toasted, and no extra fills like capers were involved. It was pretty standard, but the gooey-ness of the cream cheese was just a bit too melty for me. I'd definitely have this again since it was so affordable, but I don't think it compares to my usual NYC ones. read more

Before moving to cville and in the first couple months of living here, the most common thing we were asked was if we tried yet was Bodo's. We were taken by some friends and have since revisited on our own. It's really delicious; there's nothing like a real bagel, compared to some grocery store excuse for one. Apparently I've checked in here enough times to be the "duchess" of Bodo's. You can credit that to my second-semester Bodo's addiction that brought me here at least three times a week, although I'm sure that there are many other UVA students who frequent the place much more often than I do. I've been avoiding writing this review because I'm not sure if I can add any unique words of appreciation to wonderful establishment that hasn't been said already. The menu at Bodo's is extensive and customizable so I have yet to try a majority of the things here, but these are the things I like if you're looking for something new to try: -Sausage-egg-cheddar on wheat everything bagel (but beware, the everything bagels leave messes everywhere) -Strawberry cream cheese on salt bagel (good salty-sweet combo) -Plain cream cheese on cinnamon-raisin bagel (good salty-sweet combo) -Honey-walnut cream cheese on cinnamon-raisin bagel (for the sweet tooth. the Honey-walnut cream cheese has a very buttery taste opposed the tangy taste of plain cream cheese) -Cinnamon-sugar-butter on plain bagel (basically a dessert) -Turkey (or ham, depending on my mood)-sprouts-cucumber-lettuce-tomato-mayo-mustard-muenster cheese on onion bagel, basically my go-to, everything sandwich (I love sprouts and it's awesome that Bodo's has them here--I always add them to my sandwich. Mustard is a nice whole grain Dijon--none of that funky yellow stuff) -Chicken salad-cucumber-lettuce-tomato-mustard on everything bagel (chicken salad is actually really good here! And creamy enough where you won't want to add extra mayo or cheese) -No bull-sprouts-cucumber-tomato-hummus on wheat bagel (had this when I went vegan for a few weeks--it's really fresh and really filling. No-bull is their vegan patty, which is actually probably one of the best pseudo-meat patties I've ever had. The hummus is delicious, but tends to be messy as it smushes out of the sides of the bagel) -Cheddar cheese (melted) on plain bagel (best way to satisfy your grilled-cheese cravings) Other tips: -The salt bagels are REALLY salty and I've made the mistake of ordering my sandwiches on them one too many times. Unless you're a salt addict, these bagels are probably better saved for sweet condiments (I've heard they're good with jam too) -I ask for my bagels/sandwiches sliced in half--I find them much easier to eat that way -I also ask to melt the cheese on my sandwiches--it makes the bagel warm and toasty read more

I know that giving 3 stars to Bodo's is like rooting against the hometown team, but I think their service sucks. Bodo's Bagels = fresh, hot yummy bagels, true, but EVERYTIME I come here, I tell myself I'm not coming back because the staff is rude, scary, mean, etc. Now I'm not quite sure why a part-time bagel counter college student clerk should intimidate me, but they do here for some reason. Is there some special way to order a Bodo's bagel that I don't know about? "I want an everything bagel with creamcheese"....to which I was questioned, what kind of cream cheese? Original, I say? Huh? Plain? Huh? I just want plain normal, white cream cheese! The next time...I order a turkey bagel with tomatoes, and some other fixins. The guy at the counter says you can't order it that way....what do you mean I ask? He says that's not an option. I say well you have tomatoes listed on the menu board...then he says ok well it will cost you extra then...I say fine, just put a tomato on my sandwich. We were in town for a wedding and our friend who went to UVA informed us that we could absolutely not leave Charlottesville until we went to Bodo's bagels. So off to Bodo's bagels we went. Of course the parking was crazy and the line was out the door, but they move remarkable fast here. The staff on those old school cash registers really have everything down to a science. Went with a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel that did not disappoint. I wish they had one of these in the Triad because I would pop in for many a breakfast sandwich. These are some of the best bagels I've ever had. They're made fresh and they're not as dense as the ones you get from your regular old grocery store. Weekends and mornings usually have really long lines but it moves pretty quickly. My go-to are the everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese and the plain bagel with the cinnamon sugar butter. Honestly, you could probably eat two of these bagels and not feel overly stuffed. Sometimes I'll get a turkey sandwich on an everything bagel with avocado, pesto, and lettuce. There's just so many options you can get and you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Always a must-visit whenever I'm in town. read more

I have gotten the #1 ticket at Bodo's on 4 separate occasions. I have no regrets. Jalapeno Lime cream cheese on everything bagel. Or Honey Pecan on Cinnamon Raisin. Or a roast beef sandwich on everything. Actually you really can't go wrong with any of their bagels or spreads, and their sandwich list is extensive enough that you're bound to find a few things you like. All for less than $10(It's $2.30 for a bagel w/spread, and anywhere between $3-5 for a sandwich) Ever since leaving Cville, I haven't found any bagelry as good as Bodo's. I'm starting to lose hope tbh... Protip: If you get a bagel w/cream cheese, they put a LOT of cream cheese on it. Order an additional plain bagel on the side and ask them to slice it in half. The line can be pretty crazy in the weekdays. I went here a lot during undergrad and it was one of my favorite, cheap eats. There are so many different combinations of toppings you can get for a good price. I loved the breakfast options and also the lox and cream cheese bagel. The potato salad is a really good side. I've been to all locations in Cville and to this one most often because it's close to where I work. The food quality is consistent among all three, but each has a different sort of "vibe" in a way, as the locations really define clientele and vibrancy of the place. Of course, this particular location is usually packed with undergrads and it can get quite cramped. (That's why I appreciate the outdoor patio for when the weather is warm.) Parking is obviously a giant pain, especially in this particular area of The Corner. I've snagged a free spot in the two-hour time-limit area on University Ave. but other times I've parked in the nearby pay-per-hour area on Elliewood. Most of the time, I'm coming from work on Grounds, so I'll take a 10-minute walk to get here. I'm no bagel-connoisseur as I'm from the Midwest, but these are the best to me (way better than the usual Panera) as they're made fresh. They're soft, warm and just the right size so I don't feel a total carb coma afterward, offered in a variety of flavors, along with an array of cream cheeses and toppings/ingredients for sandwiches. Therefore, the combos are endless! I've most enjoyed eating the veggie burger patty (made locally by No-Bull) on whole wheat with hummus, sprouts, tomato and cucumber - a combo that fellow Cville Yelper Michelle W. suggested in a prior review. (Thanks for the tip!) The veggie burgers are my absolute fav because they're a thick consistency from being lentil-based, and I always stock up my freezer when I see them at local food stores like Rebecca's or at the Cville farmers markets: So glad Bodo's sources their patties from them! The sprouts also stood out to me as especially fresh, green and crisp. This is an overall healthy sandwich option and extremely filling. I've also liked the Turkey Cleo Salad, despite the lackluster menu board description, it's actually way tastier. The romaine lettuce, tomato, almond slices and turkey chunks also make this quite filling. This is my go-to for a quick, affordable (usually topping out around $5), convenient lunch. read more

I grew up in the NYC metro area and then went to UVA for my undergrad, and these are easily the best bagels I have ever had. They're the perfect consistency: not too crumby, not too bready, not too fluffy, just perfectly...bagel-y. The cream cheeses are made in-house and are very well seasoned (try the lime jalapeno if they still have it). The staff are great, and, to a college kid who focuses on achieving really stupid feats, nothing feels better than getting that first Bodo's ticket in the morning. Add-ins like blueberries or chocolate chips would gunk up the dough cutter/conveyor belt. That's why they don't offer those options. 3 - You can ask for colder/older bagels if you want a chewier/less hot option 4 - You can basically ask for anything.
