Every UVA student's favorite bagel/quick breakfast location for good reason. Bodo's is the definition of sticking to one thing and doing that one thing extraordinarily well. The bagels are fresh and delicious, and the menu offers a vast variety of combos for bagel sandwiches and breakfast foods. My standard go-to is the lox & cream cheese on everything bagel with sprouts, though everything on the menu is superb (and not to mention, very well-priced, considering the bagels are very filling). The Corner location is usually (and unsurprisingly) very populated in the morning hours around the start of classes, but the staff serves all orders with remarkable efficiency and timeliness. Just make sure to listen out for your number! And as an added tip, in case you're ever looking to get that coveted #1 ticket, always assume at some point or another that SOMEONE is gunning for that #1 ticket. If you're looking to snag it, get there AT LEAST 30-40 minutes before Bodo's opens (at least for the Corner location). Trust me. Serving college students and local families alike, Bodo's 3 locations are known as a must visit for Cville visitors for good reasons. For breakfast their fresh bagels with cream cheese or eggs are the perfect breakfast on the go or hangover cure. Bodos has been able to expand their hours by using the same great bagels to make quality lunch sandwiches. You'll notice your order is identified with a number, the number of orders the individual location has served that day. If awake early enough, you shouldn't be surprised to see students waiting outside hours before opening to complete a UVA tradition of obtaining the #1 Bodos ticket for the day. I once gave Bodo's a one-star review but then people started flaming me so I had to delete it because I don't like to make enemies. Now I am back with three stars, primarily because I am such a frequent customer. I still don't think these bagels taste like what I like to call genuine bagels, meaning Ess-A-Bagel and H&H in New York. Sometimes Bodo's bagels taste a little high-fructose-corn-syrupy, particularly the sweet ones. However, they are filling and possibly the most food for your dollar on the Corner. A few quick notes: -If you don't ask for the bagel to be cut in half, they won't do it automatically. I don't know how people eat a sandwich holding an entire bagel in their hands. Maybe I just don't have the proper coordination skills. -Minus one star because about 20% of the bagels I get there are undercooked. Meaning, they are doughy on the inside. I haven't gotten noticeably ill from the "rare" bagels but it is still unpleasant to eat dough when expecting bread. I have experienced this most frequently with the plain bagels, perhaps because they are the most popular and have to get churned out quickly. -Minus another star for the salmon. It is very color-added. I mean I know many fish have color added to them, but the color leaks into the bread to a scary degree. Perhaps it is better to just not look at what you're eating. The quality of the salmon also varies and I've had a few pieces that tasted like they weren't fresh or refrigerated properly. Also, I believe that review has since been removed, perhaps by the author, but I'm pretty sure at least one of the people who disagreed with me on Yelp was an employee or manager. This review is for the newest location on the Corner at UVA. In 1998, I started my first year at UVA, and the "coming soon" sign that had been up on the window since 1995 was a well-established joke among the community. The sign stayed up even as the renovations were complete and the spanking new location went unopened. Finally, it opened in June 2005, bringing joy in the form of the water bagel within walking distance of the University. This location looks very different from the Preston or 29 locations, with lots of tiny wood tables, darker walls, and paintings. The bagels are so fresh and delightful, unlike many tough, hard-to-chew specimens put forth by other bagel joints. I adore the following on plain bagels or salt bagels: 1) Peanut butter and bacon--it's not on the menu, but one of my own personal quirks 2) Olive cream cheese 3) Kalamata olive spread 4) Sausage, egg, and cheddar 5) Bacon, egg, and cheddar My friend Mel swears by bacon and swiss on an everything bagel. Must try! My bank account has taken a hit because of the amount of times I've been here. My usual for breakfast is either egg with ham or sausage on everything bagel. Instead of a slice of cheese, I substitute it with cream cheese. Some of my friends think it's weird but it's so good! For lunch or dinner, I would get turkey or the BLT with avocado on everything bagel. I've tried the majority of cream cheeses also and for the most part they are all good. Good god, this place is freaking amazing. First off, you walk into this place, and its packed with families, college students, old folk, young folk...everyone. Really a family feeling place. Behind the counter, an assembly line of people, ensuring quick service. Then you look at the menu. CHEAP EATS. Cheaper bagels than Noah's, Starbucks, Dunkins, etc. Under $2 for a bagel and creamcheese. Oh yeah, they have the AMAZING SALT BAGEL. Yeah thats right, if you are true bagel enthusiast, you gotta get the salt bagel and cream cheese. Anyways, couple of us stopped by for some noon food on a Saturday, found a booth quick - I ordered up the salt bagel w/ cream cheese, and a sausage egg on everything bagel. The sausage ( dunno if it was turkey sausage, but it seemed healthy and lean) was tasty, not too greasy or salty. The egg was perfect. The everything bagel, simply fluffly, hot, and covered with all the good stuff. The salt bagel, just blew me away. As good as H&H in NY, or even better. Fluffy, not too thick, not too bready, not too salty, but perfect. My mouth is actually watering right now. The shmear, perfect amount, creamy and delicious. Finished off with a cold ass Mr. Pibb. A Charlottesville icon for a reason. The best bagel I've had in my life, having traveled up and down the east coast in search of bagels. Cheap and delicious, Bodo's provides extremely quick service and brings the best when it comes to their breakfast sandwiches. I've been reminiscing a lot lately.. about Bodo's. I went religiously during my 5-year stint in Charlottesville, frequenting the place at least once a week. Most regulars have their go-to and mine is salami, lettuce, cucumbers, and pepper spread on an everything bagel (they have a wheat version too on days I want to feel better about myself). Aside from bagels they have good salads and side dishes.... we went to the one in the University campus, it was pretty loud and you hear a lot of "like" in every sentence or multiple in a sentence. Far and away one of most satisfying meals under $5 I will ever eat, and so many combinations to choose among! You can make it a breakfast thing and go for cream cheese, an egg or a sausage, make it a lunch deal and turn your bagel into a serious sandwich, or go all out and order soup and salad with the bagel - both of which are pretty decent for a bagel place (the Cleo Salad, in particular). The coffee is also really good. No need to go to the Starbucks next door. And, everyone here is always so friendly, even when they are so often so busy. Love Bodo's. I think it was whipped - it was very thin and when put on the hot (fresh) bagel it turned into a big melted mess. Definitely did not like the bagel as much as our favorite NY spots, but I'd give it a 4/5. Have to go to 3 stars for the "cream cheese" though. I've eaten here more times than I can count and every time I do, I am content with the service, quality of food, and price. Short of a few items from their menu, I've tried everything. A few of my go-to choices are the everything bagel which has bits of garlic, salt, and everything else you could want in a perfect flavorful harmony. Their sweet honey pecan cream cheese and their lightly spicy jalapeño cream cheese is also tops and pairs well with the everything bagel. If you're not feeling bagels their salads are good as well especially if you appreciate simple styles with hearty serving sizes. I'd recommend the Cleo salad and a soup if you're avoiding carbs. What's for breakfast in Charlottesville? Well, there's Bodo's.....and Bodo's. Not much else comes to mind when you wake up on a Saturday morning. Glorious, circular, carb-laden, breakfast-y glory for a morning meal! Bodo's does it right. Nothing fancy. No trim, bells, or whistles. All about the bagels. You walk in to a rather brown, and plain interior with standard tables and booths. Has a feel of an old diner or greasy spoon eatery. It's all kitchen. These guys and gals are churning out fresh bagels by the dozen every minute. Only a handful of choices. Plain, everything, onion....the basics, and that's why you'll fight off piles of drool. They're done the right way. Not overly cooked, perfectly chewy and wondrously salted. The way the bagel was supposed to be treated. Assortments of meats, cheeses, spreads and all other bagel accoutrement fill the menu boards. Take your pick. They've got it! Here's a hint: try the jalapeno cream cheese. Thank me later. Figured it was about time I stop by and give Bodo's its obligatory 5-star review. Bodos has great bagels. The amazing thing is that Bodos has great bagels...and is located in the middle of Virginia. When fellow NY bagel snobs comment on how nobody can make good bagels outside of the New York area, I now know they are wrong, because Bodos exists. Thank goodness it's in Charlottesville. Not only are the bagels good, but the sandwiches are all cheap, prepared ultra-quickly, and are delicious no matter what you get. For breakfast, I usually decide between either lox spread or egg and cheese, while for lunch I go with tuna salad, or the occasional pastrami. Everything is under 5 bucks. I hear the salads and such are good too...but...never felt the urge to try one. A creature of habit. A few tips: If you are going during the weekend morning brunch rush, the line may be horrifyingly long, and filled with hungover srat stars... but don't panic! It moves quickly. Also, don't ask for things toasted - much to the chagrin of some, Bodos' position is that the bagels are fresh and don't need toasting. (The one time my grandmother came, she asked for her bagel scooped and toasted. They looked at her like she had 2 heads). I was lucky to have Bodos on the Corner while I was at UVA...and am still lucky to be able to bring back a dozen after my (all-too-frequent) visits. read more

I don't think anyone expected this place to open after all these years. It would have been nice if this had been open while I was still at UVa. We used to get bagels from the bakery in Newcomb, which has become a convenience store. Those were good, but not as good as Bodo's. The Bodo's bagels are deliciously chewy and there are lots of combinations to choose from. Even though they seem crazy busy all the time, the line moves fast and the people here are really friendly. Didn't really hit up Bodo's until I was a third year in college but I've been hooked ever since! Bodo's is the first place I visit every time I make the trip back to Charlottesville. My favorites are the cleo salad, chicken salad on onion bagel, egg, sausage and cheese on everything bagel and the honey butter pecan cream cheese! People in Charlottesville love this place but I don't get it...maybe it's my NYC heritage. This place would get laughed out of Brooklyn- it's so whitebread- but it works for C-Ville. Even my wife has fallen under the spell. For my money- you can't beat Mr. J's in Harrisonburg. If you're in that area, swing by, buy a dozen or two and stash them in the freezer. That's what a real bagel tastes like. I understand that the guy who owns the place is a Giants fan too. If you can't get to Harrisonburg- the bagels at Panera Bread are better than Bodo's. read more

I love this bodos. I can come in during peak hours and always be out with a great sandwich in 15 minutes. They have really streamlined the process when it comes to getting you quality in a short amount of time. My boyfriend has never ordered a veggie burger in his entire life, but for whatever reason, the NoBull on a Bodo's bagel is his top weekend morning craving. I'm pretty into them, too. Bodo's is just a solid, friendly, fun college bagel place. If you live in Charlottesville, it's the type of place where you're pretty much guaranteed to run into someone you know each time you go there. One of the best places in town for an inexpensive, but great sandwich. The bagels are always fresh, and the food is prepared fresh. It always looks crowded, but they move people along very quickly. Some other places could take a lesson from them! They're located in several places around the city, so they're pretty accessible, and they're consistent. Usually when I see a line going out the door, I skip it. I get it, it's good. Must be good with all those people standing there willing to wait. I believe you. But then I go someplace else, because, well, lines and me, we're not on good terms. But I found myself pulling into the parking space anyway. Found myself standing in the line anyway. And you know what? I was glad I stood in that line (which moves surprisingly quickly, actually) and bonus, this gave me time to pour over the relatively extensive menu. The bagels were are fresh baked enough to make standing in line for them worth it. I tried the Vegan breakfast bagel sandwich option and a large coffee. Bodo's is a great place to stop for a quick breakfast if you're at UVA. The bagels are fresh-made and are quite light and fluffy. Goes well with the eggs and sausage for a breakfast sandwich, but works as a standalone too. If there's a long line don't worry it moves pretty quick and you'll be through it in no time. read more

Bagel delight! Also a great UVA tradition to get the #1 ticket (order) for their freshest bagel of the day! All nighter the night beforehand and luckily, not too much competition but nabbed it successfully! And what a proud, early early morning achievement! Well known around UVA, and for good reason- the bagels are fresh, fresh, fresh and are well cooked- so tasty. Had a plain bagel with nothing on it, not cut and it was like heaven in a bagel! Especially cause it was still warm! Having said that, they do decent chicken salad (don't be fooled, you need to add your salads! Lovely, Cheap, All the Time Bagels so Many Bagels All the Time! The Good - The price. Bagels are less than a buck, and you can add on toppings for mere cents extra. Sandwiches can run anywhere from less than $3 to $6, depending on the fillings and the extras you choose. - Price flexibility makes Bodo's a great college-meal. When money is tight, nosh on a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with Butter. When you have some money to spare, dig into a Lox and Cream Cheese with all the Fixins. - Options are plentiful. Many fillings and toppings to choose from - but the selection isn't overwhelming. Bonus points for keeping Liverwurst in stock. - Toppings are always fresh, homemade cream cheese is flavorful. -The Bagels. So good. Not too soft, just the right chewy texture. Salt Bagel and Everything Bagels for the win. The Bad - Water cups. They give you teeny little water cups. I wish they would just put a water cooler out so I don't have to be obnoxious and ask for more water. The Verdict - Inexpensive, and delicious. In my 4 years at UVA I have spent hundreds at this very Bodo's, and I have no regrets whatsoever. The bagels are, as they claim, "perfectly kettled," with a firm, slightly glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior. My go-to is an everything bagel with egg, ham, and swiss, which at $3.66 is the best meal you can get on the corner for that price. We were told to come here as its "part of the Charlottesville experience ", so we came for a quick bite before touring UVA. There are several locations, but we chose the one right across from campus. It was parents weekend, so it was packed with students and patents, however I have a feeling that it's always pretty busy. You order your food, then wait for your number to be called and pick up your order. There are plenty of tables scattered about, it wasn't difficult to find a seat. I cannot comment much about the food here, as we only shared a whole wheat bagel with lox spread on it,but this was one damn good bagel,and I've had my fair share of bagels.
