I am a longtime member of body and brain yoga. I was in the area of glendale and I visited the center there and I really felt like I was home. I was welcome.Not only by the center managers, but by the people in the class. The Yoga is very different. It's almost like a restorative yoga.And they also have tai chi classes as well. And it is very different. I found that every time I do the class.I sweat and I feel great afterward, mentally and physically. Thank you so much for the class and the warm welcoming atmosphere. Every once in a while life gives you a gift. The gift of a body that is touch with the brain. Through "Body & Brain's" teachings, which incorporates Yoga & Taichi, one is much more able to communicate and build health and a healthy lifestyle from within. I was fortunate enough to meet Master Kim. 35 years before my first meeting with Master Kim I had a 300 lb box fall directly on the top of my head from 8 feet high. Luckily I was young... about 36 years old and I was fortunate enough not to have broken my neck. However, for the next 35 years I was unable to turn my head more than 15 degrees to either side. Sure, one learns to live with it and that range of motion became the norm for me. Util I walked into Body & Brain... which my wife has been attending classes for years, and spent just an hour with Master Kim. Yeah, I know you are thinking snake oil or some kind of temporary adjustment and pseudo psychological healing.... Same thing I thought when my wife used to beg me to go in and see Master Kim. I am here to tell you that within an hour my head would turn to the right and left at a full 45 degrees. You know how it is an effort to get up off the floor even though you are not overweight? You know that old bones and old body excuse. Yes, in that same first hour, I learned to stand from sitting position with ease. One hour of my afternoon made a drastic change in my life. So... retiring very soon and yes, I will take Master Kim's classes to get even better and take this 67 year old bodybuilder body and turn it into a flexible machine. My 66 year old wife can do it and so will I. Like they say... al the money in the world doesn't do you a bit of good if you are not well enough or strong enough to spend it! read more

My husband got me a gift certificate here for our anniversary because I love yoga, but I had trouble finding it the 1st time because the sign outside does not say 'Body and Brain' yoga. I called to get help and the woman was dismissive and rude. When I arrived, she told me my energy was 'off'- it was all so unkind. And this one woman does all the classes at this location. I don't know what to do with this gift certificate now. :( read more

Beware! This is a cult not traditional yoga. It's a scheme to get your money! There are no spiritual benefits from repeatedly smacking yourself in the abdomen. The only thing I got out of it was a thinner wallet and a bruised abdomen that hurt so bad the next day I had to wear an ice pack to work. read more

Buyer beware! I'm a certified yoga instructor who is experienced in yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Energy Work. I recently lived in Peoria, AZ for a year, and during my stay there I started taking classes at Dahn Yoga. Within the first few classes I found that the instructors were not willing to speak about their own personal experiences, and they were providing misinformation to their students. The Pros: Some of the exercises they teach are also taught in Qi Gong and Tai Chi and they work when practice regularly. The Cons: 1) The classes are EXTREMELY over priced. 2) They teach Taoism so if you're a Christian like me then there's a direct conflict of beliefs. 3) This is NOT yoga!!! Yoga is mindful movement with the breath, and they told me it didn't matter when you breath. While that's true with Tai Chi and Qi Gong, it's certainly not true with yoga. Anyone considering instruction from this institution needs to do their own homework. I strongly encourage you to take Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Yoga classes BEFORE you go to this place. read more

This yoga is as good as it gets! Dahn yoga is a Korean type of yoga and it provides me with everything I want in a yoga program. It offers a series of exercies that open your energy meridians & chakras, as well as breathing and meditation within almost every class to help you build that inner connection as well. The center directors are loving kindness personified and truly concerned about every one of us in terms of building a healthy body, happy heart and a "power" brain. In addition, they help us connect with our true inner nature and reach our full potential as equal members of humanity through helping one another within the center as well as without - in our community by volunteering, etc (optional). I have always been dedicated to Eastern Indian yoga with its asanas (poses). I've taken hot yoga, classes through gyms, and private classes with Eastern Indians leading the class as well as others. One thing I always missed was any feeling of "oneness" or "quiet mind" either through the asanas or by controlling my breathing. It was always about the exercise. I didn't feel it was even a "moving meditation" although I got good enough to perform some fairly rigorous asanas. I have finally found a type of yoga that cares for my physical body, my spiritual body and my mind! Classes are different every day and some days are so rigourous that I leave soaking wet. I ALWAYS leave more peaceful, kind and loving! Breathing and meditation is a focus within the class. It's helped me lose 24 lbs as well as receive kudos from my family. My daughter likes to say I am "nicer" after yoga class. I bring her now too. Others bring their children as well. The physical center seems less important to me but for those of you who take note of that type of thing: it is within a strip mall so it's not the most attractive location but once you enter you forget what's outside because the energy within is accepting, peaceful and calm. The floor is padded and covered with a type of covering that's soft and springy. It's great for your knees! Classes are in a large mirrored room (one wall). I've been attending 3-6 classes/week for almost a year now. There are several other locations around the valley in Chandler, Scottsdale & Tempe. I have finally found a great exercise class to build a healthy body but more importantly a spiritual connection within myself that strengthens as I practice and helps me grow. It was my first time here, the place is very nice and clean, so are the masters, although one did smell not quite right. But if u are looking for a typical child pose, up dog down dog, or even a warrior pose, this is not the right place for you. This is more like punching your belly multiple times with your fists AND a wooden stick. I'm sure there is a benefit or 2 in that, I was not convinced however. I did stay throughout the whole class, enjoyed meeting new people but at the end, this is not the right place for me. read more

Dahn Yoga is a Korean-based blend of Yoga, Tai-Chi, and energy and chakra work. I first experienced Hatha Yoga in Singpoare with an Indian instructor. From then on, for me, Yoga was not genuine unless I (for lack of a better description) have trouble understanding my instructor. When I found Dahn Yoga in Las Vegas and later moved and transferred to Glendale, Arizona, I knew I found home. The classes always go over the traditional 60 minute Yoga class, and often with warmups will approach or exceed 90 minutes. I feel I get such a great value for my membership at Dahn Yoga, as I can pick any of the 11 classes they offer per week, plus private healing sessions and additional workshops, both at the Glendale facility and in the parent Sedona meditation retreat. This is a place of great healing for me, as the instructors are always very caring and sensitive to my needs. I am never forced to do a stretch or exercise that is uncomfortable or painful. I love my spiritual journey with Dahn Yoga added to it, and I invite anyone looking for "more than just" Yoga to give Dahn Yoga a try. Body and Brain yoga has changed my life. Before I started, I was unhealthy and depressed all the time. It wasn't until that depression was starting to affect my job and my relationships with my friends and family that I knew I had to do something about it. I just had my first session and I love it here! This is a place I can go to get mental clarity and also a nice workout/ the workouts are not strenuous but they are endurance based and also mental, physical, flexible , and internal focused. Etc. Each day of the week offers something different which cleanses different parts of my body and mind. I really like the owner koko, she was very nice and knowledgeable. I know I have things to work on and I'm excited to work on it quietly in a no stress place. I read some other reviews about it being a religion and a cult ... that is absurd. Classes are filled with genuine and kind people along with the instructors that are also incredibly welcoming. Exercises can be taxing for the first two weeks, but the soreness of unconditioned muscles warm with the stretches and activities performed through the classes, just go at your own pace. The stretches are so gentle and helpful that pains that I had along with my inflexibility were changed completely within a month that I had to continue to come to classes. My lower back pain and leg soreness have faded to just a memory with the practice of Dahn Yoga. Breathing is a main focus within the classes, breathe in through your nose and exhale out your mouth is repeated regularly by instructors. I very much enjoy the muscle coordination that I have gained in the classes and it is amazing feeling my own energy as it changes and develops or matures with a growing awareness and desire to share with others. I walk out of class feeling refreshed and energized for the days ahead, it is always nice to share tea with other Dowoonims or students as well. I have not noticed any religiousness within the courses, the atmosphere is warm and receptive to people of all walks of life and religions, the best thing about classes are the laughs and smiles shared as light humor and jokes flow throughout the room. I wish that the Dahn Yoga cost slightly less so that more people could enjoy it as I have. read more

I highly recommend Dahn Yoga to everyone! I have been a member for over 3 years now. If I could, I would go to class every day. I try to go on regular basis, and always feel better when I am able to do so. The instructors are fabulous and patient, yet definitely give you a good workout. However, they also work with you and your physical abilities and gradually over time, you will find improvement in your balance, and flexibility. There is a definite mind/body connection and I always feel so relaxed when I leave. Be sure to give this a try! read more

I started Dahn Yoga about a month ago and I wanted to slowly work into a regular fitness routine. I haven't been in any regular exercise program since 2006. I do a lot of walking, some hiking and biking but that's not a regular fitness program. After only a month at Dahn Yoga, I feel a great improvement both mentally and physically. I have more energy and I look forward to going to class. I FEEL healthier and I have already lost 8 pounds. The Instructors are amazing! They have given me several personal sessions to check how I'm doing and even though I am a "beginner" at Dahn Yoga, in each class I try to stretch a little bit more. I recommend Dahn Yoga and their Instructors for anyone like me who has NOT been in a regular exercise program. If you want to improve both your mind and body, this is the place to go. It certainly doesn't matter what age you are. I have arthritis and I can do it. Young women (new mothers) come in and they can do it... all you have to do is take that first step and you'll get a wonderful workout. Come to Dahn Yoga and make some new friends!
