I had a bad experience with the charges, on December 23rd I put the account on hold, and they charged me on christmas day, he just told me you will be charged back in a few days, I put the account on hold and on January 24th he charged me again because he said that the hold only lasts for 1 month, although we had already talked about that my son had been approved since december for a government program because he has autism and he already knew, I asked him why he had charged my card again and he just told me you signed a contract because you wanted the service and you didn't cancel it. So they were double charged for the month of December, January. I was also charged the annual fee on January 1st. My son only had one month total of practice. I been seeing this gym for years closer to my residence! Its hard to find a good gym seemed great at first until you pay . Then everything changes with the owner his approach goes to super nice to pulling you outside to try and intimidate conversation and as a consumer you are going to agree with most anything especially if you paid your money out or lose your money always do monthly so you don't lose out incase a disagreement. Then after you think things are settled after discussion they start talking about you in front of your teen unprofessional to say the least so I let the money go and I'm a single parent be cautious test run first great hours great equipment make sure you get the run down on it to keep compliant with the owner ! Body by Discipline is a very comfortable environment to start meeting your fitness goals. The gym is somewhat small, quiet and has a calm atmosphere. The entire staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. The facility and all the equipment are always clean. I started out with the small group classes for several months to get comfortable here. Then I added personal training with Coach Mikey once a week. I've belonged to a lot of gyms and worked with PT's over the years. This has been the best experience by far because the coaches take the time to get to know you. And they are careful to make sure you are challenging yourself but not to the point of risking injury. Coach Mikey is so patient and encouraging, always positive towards my efforts, reminding me of my progress. I think that's why I've been more consistent here than with other gyms. I've been working with a couple coaches at the gym for nearly 4 months now. They're very communicative, both inside the gym and out. All the coaches seem to have the same great attitude toward working out and will work with you to find a routine that suits you best. Let me start by saying I checked this gym out about 4 years ago , took a class but never joined. Kids were very young and home life got in the way. Fast forward to two months ago and I checked them out again. Classes are still available pending Covid protocol. The owner is the same person and nice, down to earth. I'm extremely happy to have finally made the leap and join. Classes are also available through Zoom if you prefer to work out at home. My 10 year old son also takes boxing classes on Saturday with Coach Jacques. The staff is amazing. Classes are great! You get pushed to "treat yourself, don't cheat yourself". If I could give 0 stars I would. Poorly structured. My child attended the boxing classes for 4-6 year olds. Sessions are only 30 mins. I would say the first 5-7 mins is warm up, another 5 mins throughout the class is spent redirecting one specific kid to pay attention. Then halfway through the session the next class is waiting on the side of them and they are a huge distraction. They are rough playing and being extremely loud and the one instructor that is teaching spends quite a bit of attention/time to try to calm down the next group of kids instead of focusing on the class they're teaching. I would estimate your child will only get about 3-5 mins of actual boxing practice. If you want your child to gain any skill, definitely look elsewhere. In addition to the issues with the class itself, the customer service is very poor. They do not operate in a professional manner that values customers. read more

I love to box. I started boxing again to relieve the stress from my husband's cancer treatment. The one star is for the great boxing coaching given to me by Marco. Unfortunately, Marco was let go without prior notice the day of my weekly lesson. Out of the blue, the owner, Chris, said he was my new boxing coach. At first, I reluctantly agreed but got a $99 yearly fee added on without telling me ahead of time....after 5 mo of lessons. Part of its my fault for not reading the contract in full before beginning but was shown to me right before my first lesson and I would have used up lesson time at $60 for each private lesson to read it. I'm sure it was small print in the back somewhere. Yep, they were already making good money off me but wanted more. When I told the owner that I wasn't told about the extra fee, his answer was ..you signed the contract. I was SOL. Going forward, I couldn't take lessons from someone I didn't trust or feel comfortable around. I've lost the remainder of my lessons that he refuses to refund. Beware....this place uses bait and switch, and despite the statement on their website about customer comes first..they couldn't care less. read more

I love this place. LOVE IT! I've never felt so comfortable in a gym and I've been to plenty. The friendly atmosphere makes you feel more like family than just another gym member. There's no intimidation or pressure-"selling", just great positive encouragement. Not only is the staff very diverse but so is their clientele--diversity in race, age, body types, and athletic ability. I love the boxing classes but I get so more with the personal training! If you think you're too old, too overweight, too shy, or completely unathletic, I was mentally where you're at when I first walked in here. I have been coming here for about 10 months now, 2-3 times per week and since day 1 the people here have been amazing! I have had gym memberships for years, but here it actually feels like YOUR gym! The classes here were about 20 kids to one instructor. I don't feel my son got anything out of the classes. The instructors and Chris were all friendly until I decided to cancel. After being charged 100$ while my son hasn't even attended the classes for 4 months for a maintenance fee. Chris basically laughed at me and was like " you should have read the contract we don't do refunds." Even though they refunded me many months ago for something else. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and rude he was to me. Would not recommend this place. Pay a slightly higher price for some place that would actually benefit your child or yourself. This is the place! The staff is friendly and welcoming! The new location is great! I'm so proud to be part of this gym and to have started my weight loss journey here. Went in, knew what I wanted and signed up! I loved martial arts when I was younger and taught kung fu many years ago... However, after having a kiddo and not working out in years because #corporatelife followed by #momlife I felt like I was missing something. There's something about the body/mind connection of martial arts that nothing can really replace (oh okay, hitting things also makes me happy). So I googled martial arts near me and BAM, there was Body By Discipline, and I went in because I could call/browse the website, but you don't know the vibe of a place until you actually step foot in there (am I right? Yes.). I loomed around the front looking at the different signage and the quote on the front of the building was something like, "it doesn't matter how you finish the race, it's having the courage to start" and I was like @_@ it's so truuuuuue. And then I was greeted by coach Chris and coach Pam who gave me the information on starting and the classes they had. They have open gym AND classes EVERY. DAY. And it was much cheaper than anywhere else around (which I really appreciate because the money struggle is real in San Diego). The classes are AWESOME, the coaches push you, but at the same time, make sure you aren't injuring yourselsf and make sure that your form is correct. So, I have lived a block from Body by Discipline nearly four years and recently started personal training sessions about two months ago. Previously I had tried a number of gyms and personal trainers in the San Diego area never finding one that felt like a fit for me. Being an overly analytical person always stuck in my head (computer programmer) I was apprehensive and intimidated at the idea of joining a boxing gym. After a cursory online review and knowing I needed a lifestyle/fitness change I decided to give Body by Discipline a chance. Walking into my trial/first personal training session those feelings of apprehension and intimidation were ever-present, but after 10 minutes of working with, Coach Chris (owner) they were gone. Chris was extremely welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable making it apparent that he enjoys his work. It was clear at the end of my trial session that Body by Discipline was a fit and I purchased personal training sessions. Working with the Body by Discipline team these past two months have been amazing! Staff and members alike are friendly, welcoming, and helpful - there is a great sense of community. I have worked primarily with Coaches Chris, AK, and Jacques. Chris is a great motivator and takes the time to explain our workouts and exercises in detail. AK keeps me accountable, pushes me toward my goals, and keeps our workouts fun and challenging. Jacques got me to try boxing, and I found it extremely challenging, but that initial push made me want to stick with it and learn. With some small lifestyle changes and the help and knowledge of the Body by Discipline team, I have been able to drop 30lbs in two months. I've done group classes as well as personal training at this gym and I can absolutely say this is what propelled my weight loss and current workout regiment. They pushed me to my limits each session; everyday I walked out drenched in sweat. Even though the classes are challenging they help accommodate all levels of fitness, so even if you can't do certain moves they'll assist you to find something that's comfortable for yourself. If you're looking to get WORKED, this is the place to be!! Friendly staff, encouraging instructors that give hard but tolerable workouts. Class sizes are big enough to have the "team" dynamic but still small enough that one-on-one instruction is still possible. Nice, large facility with everything you need to get real results (minus the socializing/crowds you get at 24hr or other large gym locations). Plenty of class selections to pick from with opportunity for personal training sessions. A real jewel to have in the community!!! I had been looking for a gym that specialized in boxing and I saw Body by Discipline while I was going to the shoe repair in the same strip mall. I went home and researched their website. I was very impressed, it was very detailed and informative. I like how they have a bio on all of their coaches so you know their background and how they got started. (Joe needs one) I then sent an email asking for more information and Chris (the owner) called me the next day. I told him that I was interested in boxing classes and he told me I was able to start that same day. He let me know that he was not going to be in and that his brother Joc would get me started and what to expect. After I spoke with Chris, Joc confirmed my appointment with in minutes, loved their team work. When I got there Joc was very friendly, I bought my hand wraps and he showed me the basic moves to get me through my very first class. I started off with the fundamental boxing class with Raul and I loved it and joined the same night. I love how inviting and friendly all the trainers are, members as well. I am learning so much about boxing and different techniques, and have noticed that I am getting a lot stronger. I seen this place in Lemon Grove. I went to a class and joined the same day. The people are really nice. It's hard to find good people in San Diego, but these people are really nice and welcoming. I took a kick boxing class with Raul. I had a great time! I have two kids and I ran track in college. After having my kids I was not the same, but having a gym here in Lemon Grove is GREAT!!!. I will be going to the Butt and Gut class next. I'm writing this review because I stopped by there today to pick up a schedule and I seen Chris and he encouraged me to take at least 3 to 4 classes a week to get to where I want to be (I took a few days off... went to Vegas) .I think Chris is the owner, but I'm not sure. I've taken my nephew there a few times for class, and he's taken to it pretty well - he's only 6 and he enjoys the classes so much. Although the gym is small, it's very clean and organized. The instructors are attentive to the kids, and address them respectfully. I really am pleased to know that Jacques (one of the trainers) has a background in elementary education so he knows how to wrangle the little ones when they're all over the place. The trainers have unbelievable patience, and this is really important for the kids. Focus is on fitness, and technique but you can see that they're all having fun. I highly recommend Body By Discipline for anyone who is motivated to get in shape and needs that extra push. When it comes to exercise, I am definitely one who needs that extra push--I need someone to hold me accountable. All I need to do is walk into this intimate gym and I know I'm going to have a great workout. All of the trainers are great motivators. Everyone is friendly and genuine, and they go at your own pace. It is very person centered and individualized. Aside from all of the classes they offer, there is also personal training available. Currently my personal trainer is Heidi and she is amazing. I recently learned that I am gluten intolerant and I've had a hard time changing and getting used to a gluten-free diet. To my surprise and delight I found out Heidi also has solid knowledge of nutrition. She has educated me as well as provided me with insight into my own eating habits. Because of this I have been able to make positive changes. We are also working on strengthening my body, especially my lower half! Before Heidi, Chris was my personal trainer. He's great too! We focused more on kickboxing which was super hard at first, but he made it lots of fun. Since I have started at B by D (3.5 months ago) I have lost about 10 lbs and have gotten so much stronger, not to mention more confident. Seeing results has me motivated to keep going! I have attended this gym for 3 years now! Love it! Changed my life! I lost 35 pounds since I joined! The coaches are knowledgeable and beyond friendly! You can use the machines or attend classes, I do booth. The price is very fair, specially when compared to other boxing gyms. I never actually WANTED to go to the gym before this place. They make all their classes challenging but interesting and new. The trainers are awesome and really take the time to get to know you, your motivations, weaknesses, everything! And the people that attend are always so supportive of each other.
