I have tried several massage places in and around Providence looking for my perfect place. I think I found that place: Body Kneads. Like Bailey M., I came here the first time with a Groupon for a basic 60-minute Body Kneads massage, which I scheduled with Victoria -- the owner. Despite a bit of a rough start, the experience was phenomenal. I arrived very early to find a closed, we'll be back sign, set to 15 minutes before my appointment -- the time they recommend arriving for your first massage. About five minutes before my appointment, Victoria came to the door. I realized she had a last minute booking and had mistakenly thought my appointment was 15 minutes later than it was. An honest mistake, and she was very apologetic. She did everything she could to make sure I relaxed before my appointment from offering me tea and water to showing me the bathroom. She also made sure I got the full hour. The ambiance is conducive to complete relaxation: an old Victorian house, the calming scent of eucalyptus, electric heaters to keep the temperature perfect, soothing colors and decor, and clean, soft lines on the table. There are two rooms, both of which are beautiful, and the therapists play relaxing music on iPods to complete the atmosphere. Victoria went so far as to place a hot heating pad on my stomach and back during my massage to make sure the chilly air didn't affect my treatment. A bolster is placed under your knees when you're laying on your back, and under your ankles when you lay on your stomach to ensure proper alignment and comfort. All of the massage therapists are certified and have had years of education and experience. I went back for a follow-up treatment with Kati -- they offer a 20% discount after your first visit to come back, an offer well worth taking advantage of. Both Victoria and Kati were knowledgeable and thorough and able to speak with me about my concerns. Before my massage with Victoria, I had been having dull, chronic pain in my left jaw; I haven't felt the pain since my massage with her, after which she mentioned all of the tension on my left side. I also met Chris, and he seemed approachable and professional as well. I highly recommend any of these three, as their techniques and pressure are very similar. The prices are reasonable, and they run several deals in addition to the return visit deal mentioned above. You can receive $10 off for bringing a food item for the food bank, and they also offer multiple-massage packages at a discount. Body Kneads does accept credit cards -- and they will send your receipt via email! -- however, tips cannot be put on your card, so be sure to have cash on your to thank these hard-working therapists. read more

I absolutely love this place! I've been here a few times and am a huge fan of Jenna and Johanna. Service is amazing and everyone is very friendly. I'm a long-time client of Body Kneads and continue to be impressed with their expertise, professionalism, and friendliness. As someone in the fitness industry, I'm particular about wanting a massage therapist who really understands anatomy, biomechanics, and ergonomic issues. The therapists I've worked with, Katie and Victoria, both really get it. They're both smart, intuitive, and able to get right at the root of the problem. Although my various muscular pains and strains have mostly been minor, Katie and Victoria have worked wonders on me, and taught me techniques to sustain the benefits of their work. The rooms are tasteful, clean, and comfortable. Staff and owner all evince a natural, easy friendliness and professionalism. This is a great small business. I received a gift card to come here a few years ago as a present and now it is the only place I'll go. Very relaxed atmosphere as well as a professional, prompt and knowledgable staff. I've been going to Jenna since I first came here and she's absolutely excellent. My only critique of Body Kneads (which is mostly true of all massage joints) is that people don't seem to stay for a long time. Her attention to detail is spot on and her "read on her clients" is excellent. Very enjoyable, entertaining and interactive woman. Courtney then sang the praises of JoHannah for reflexology as I had inquired about those services. Today I was able to book a last-minute appointment with JoHannah and it was such a blessing. I just had the most amazing 90 minute relaxation massage by Elizabeth. It was the best massage I've had in Providence, by far. I left feeling rejuvenated. I had the 90 minute restorative kneads massage with Courtney and it was amazing! I was sore and stiff from recent exercise when I walked in. That was all gone when I left. I was very relaxed and the muscle soreness was pretty much gone. Body Kneads goes out of their way with little extras that make your whole massage experience that much more special. Courtney does not do some superficial massage, but a very skilled manipulation of your muscles including stretching. As a person who got AT LEAST 1 massage per week before I moved to Providence, I must say I've had a hell of a time finding a good place to go in the area. A good place that isn't trying to financially cripple me, that is. My first experience with Body Kneads was through Groupon, I had just recently had a terrible experience with another masseuse in the area and was skeptical. However, right as I walked in I knew (maybe more like hoped) this place would be different. The atmosphere is homey: they have comfortable chairs and even offered me some tea after my massage. The massage itself was great - Kati listened to what I wanted and checked in periodically. I, personally, like a very firm, deep pressure and I got exactly that without feeling like I was being mashed into the table (always a plus). I've been back several times since then and used Kati and Chris (both great!). I also have an appointment for Tuesday and I plan to bring 3 non-perishable food items to donate so I can get a discount on my massage. How awesome is that?! My husband & I just had a massage here yesterday & it was exactly what we hoped for. Despite being a converted home, it was super quiet/relaxing. My masseuse was Joanne & besides being chatty (partially my own fault bc I answered her back in detail whereas if you just say yes/no, they usually get the point & let you melt into relaxation), she hit ALL my trigger points with the PERFECT pressure. I bought a Groupon for a one hour massage at Body Kneads in Providence. I had a 1:30 appointment and on my way there I got a call from Victoria asking me if I could move my appointment to 1:45 instead because they were running late. I was already on my way there but agreed to run an errand and come in 15 minutes late. I walked in around 1:40 and the girl I was scheduled with, Kati, was already waiting for me. I filled out my paperwork and went in for my massage. Katie was wonderful, she knew what she was doing which I really appreciated, however the massage itself seemed way too short. I thought maybe it was because I usually go for an hour and a half massage, but when she left the room and I looked at the clock, it was only 2:30. I don't think she realized that I was asked to come in late and instead cut the extra 15 minutes off the back end of my massage. I figured there was nothing I could do, so I left without saying anything to Kati (plus at that point I was already dressed) but the more I think about it the more upset I get that 25% of my massage was lost due to a miscommunication between the Body Kneads staff. Due to this I would not return to Body Kneads which is unfortunate because the price was good and I did enjoy the 45 minute massage I had. read more

Scheduled an appt for an hour massage because of the 41/2 stars on yelp. I wish I never did. The room was extremely cold so I could not enjoy my massage. The young lady who massaged me had the coldest hands ever and didn't care to warm them up or something. All she said was " they will warm up real soon" of course they will when they touch my body which is uncomfortable. The room lighting was so bright I felt like I was at a dentists office with lights on me. unfortunately the massage wasn't what I thought it was and didn't even hit the spots I had circled on the paper when they asked what area needs work.
