The facility is under new management and you can feel the go getter energy once you walk through the front doors. I am currently being seen for a lumbar issue that has been ongoing for the past 20 plus years. I am finally knowledgeable on what to do when I have a flare up, all thanks to the guidance of both Blake and Taylor, of course. Their approach of educating and therefore empowering the patient on proper body movements is refreshing. I went to Body Mechanix for 8 months (just graduated yesterday). In that time I worked with Taylor and Blake. They have different styles but both are great! They and their staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and the environment is wonderful. They all care deeply a out their patients. If I ever have to go to PT again (which I hope I don't) and I'm still in this area, I will DEFINITELY go back. They both took the time to answer questions and told me what they were doing and why. I had my worst experience with this facility. I initially had shoulder pain on my right side and went to see an orthopedic surgeon. After examining me, the doctor said he didn't believe I had a significant tear, or if I did, it was probably very small. He recommended that I start physical therapy. I went to Body Mechanics in Simi Valley and began working with Emily, one of the physical therapists. I told her from the beginning that my issue was with my shoulder, but she insisted that the problem was coming from my neck. Despite me repeatedly telling her that my pain was in my shoulder, she continued to work on my neck. After a few sessions without improvement, I decided to stop seeing her and requested to work with Mark, the owner and also a physical therapist. On my last session with Emily, she finally admitted that the problem was indeed my shoulder, but told Mark that the problem was my neck. Before Mark started working with me, I clearly explained that my issue was with my shoulder and asked him not to work on my neck. He ignored my request and worked on my neck anyway. During two sessions I had with him, he only worked on my neck. On my second session he pushed my shoulder very hard and pulled my neck and shoulder in opposite directions, which caused a severe tear. After that session, I came home in terrible pain. I couldn't sleep at night and was in severe discomfort. I returned to my orthopedic surgeon, who ordered an MRI. The results showed that I had a large tear, and I ended up needing surgery. It has now been six months since the surgery, and I'm still experiencing pain and discomfort. When I first began physical therapy, I could lift my arm up to about 120 degrees. By the time I finished therapy, just before my surgery, I could only lift it 30 degrees. This was an extremely disappointing and painful experience, both physically and emotionally. I still do not understand why both Emily and Mark didn't listen to me as a patient repeatedly telling them I had shoulder pain, not a neck pain. I paid more than $1000 to this facility for my treatments which lead me to a surgery which was very painful and costly ($5000). I would strongly recommend not going to this facility. read more

I recently had a discectomy but unfortunately I'd sustained substantial nerve damage accompanied by drop foot. I can remember barely being able to make it to physical therapy with the use of a cane. I couldn't even put my shoes on. After wasting two months with an ineffective physical therapist I noticed a therapist (Blake) achieving tremendous results in a much shorter period of time with his patients. I waited until Blake could treat me and the results were immediate and significant. Blake and his wife started their own business Body Mechanix in Simi Valley and I gladly make the half hour trek for my continued progress. I've gained 50% range of motion in my affected foot and he's postponing knee replacement surgery by providing a regimen of muscle development supporting my knee. Blake is highly skilled, yet humble. I have been a patient here for 10 months. My Therapists are the best- except for the other Therapists that work here, too! Their Professionalism, Respect, Caring, Therapeutic Skills, Manual Manipulation and Knowledge are beyond the Best! I was impressed! I have been to many PT facilities in my life, and I was tired to try a new one. I never felt personally cared about and I never had any positive results. Then, my new Rehab Doctor from SCOI recommended Body Mechanix PT to me, one year ago. He knows the owner, Mark PT, for many years and gave him rave reviews! I met Mark PT and Emily PT, last August and came 2x/week for a strained and painful calf muscle. In a few months, with my cooperation to do my part, with exercises and consistent appointments, I healed and felt great! I've also had Chronic Shoulder conditions assessed and therapeutically manipulated by Mark and Emily. I can honestly say i don't have pain anymore. . Truly Life-Changing Care for Upper Arm Pain! I highly recommend Body Mechanix Physical Therapy. When I first came in, I was suffering from severe pain in my upper arm that made simple tasks--like reaching for something in the backseat--excruciating. I was worried I would need to limit some of my activities permanently. From the very first session, my physical therapist (I worked with Taylor) was exceptional. Rather than just giving me generic exercises, she conducted a thorough assessment and created a personalized treatment plan focused specifically on my recovery goals. She explained why certain movements caused pain and educated me on the mechanics of my injury. At the beginning of each of my treatment sessions, Taylor would take the time to listen to any questions or concerns I had on the use of my upper arm before beginning treatment. Then she would measure any progress made from the last session to determine if the treatment plan is working or if she should modify it. The combination of hands-on treatment and targeted exercises led to incredible results. Within several weeks, my upper arm pain was gone, and by the end of my program, I had regained my strength and mobility in the upper arm. I can now reach for anything in the back seat without the excruciating pain. If you are dealing with chronic pain or mobility issues, this is the place to go. DO NOT GO if you are planning to seek treatment from Mark the owner. He is absolutely brutal. I have always been told that I have high tolerance to pain but with him I had none! I had a total knee replacement surgery and truly found myself crying/screaming begging him to stop each and every time as he was forcefully bending my leg to a level I could not achieve whatsoever! I truly thought for the 3 months I went there, that I had lost my high pain tolerance. I never described to my surgeon how he was bending my knee leaning his entire body to forcefully achieve more bending. I had a manipulation and after the manipulation - not because of the PT bur rather right after, I was at 100degrees. He would forcefully bend it to 125/130 while I cried/would hit myself due to extreme pain and he ignored my begging to stop time after time. I finally asked my surgeon if what I was encountering was normal and he was shocked then immediately told me to not go to him anymore as he sounded like he was torturing and as he said, PT is not supposed to be tortured - it is painful and uncomfortable but they are supposed to stop if you are begging them to do so. Well, definitely not with Mark or Emily - another PT that learned from him on how to treat patients. It is funny how when I started going to the YMCA to utilize their hot pool for walking and exercising, other customers there when they learned I was seeing Mark they told me how many of them had left the place because of how brutal he was. They even mentioned a neighbor of him/also friend of him, who after going there to be treated by him, ended up leaving the place as she could not tolerate the forceful way he treated her. I am now happily going to where my surgeon recommended me. It is not nearby as it is in Ventura (I am in Simi Valley) but it is amazing when you find being treated for 3 weeks - not one tear. Body Works PT is the best - Jeff, Brenda, Tod and Sam plus the entire team including Rachel the Office Manager are Atop PT place. When I arrived they told me the reason for my swollen knee is because by Mark and Emily forcefully bending my knee, they were irritating tissue and the swelling was never going to go down as it is supposed to. Since going there, receiving massages in the affected area and proper treatment, my knee swelling is started to decrease. I have now gained so much more bending - with Mark and Emily on my own I would not achieve anything pass 105 degrees, I am not on my own at 118 and after they finish their daily sessions, I am achieving 121. AS I SAID FIND A DIFFERENT PT PLACE JUST DO NOT GO THERE! read more

These people are spot on top to bottom. I have arthritic knees from workin my butt off for 40+ years. Only way to "fix" that is to replace the knee, nope. The other option is to mitigate the pain by strengthening the muscles. Been working on left for almost 8 weeks, it's doing great. Now started on right and it's coming along nicely. My experience at Body Mechanics was a fantastic one except for one rude desk worker accusing me of taking an image inside; with my phone. She was loud and everyone heard what she said. Mark, the owner, assured me he dealt with the employee and wanted me to return. I had surgery on my neck and could not move my head. Was awaiting a ride and had my phone up working on a project. My Mother passed away and was simply putting a slide show together. After discussing the situation with my lawyer. I informed Mark it simply was not worth pursuing. I left in peace but was destroyed and embarrassed in front of all with her loud voice informing that it was illegal to take images inside. Was in shock. I went home and reported the situation both to the VA and Tri-Care for life. They told me to cancel the balance of my appointments and set me up with another agency. This incident was over two years ago. Still in PT, due to a minor stroke to this day. By mistake I was given a set of appointments to Body Mechanics. I contacted Tri West and cancelled. One bad apple spoiled a great business for me. To be fair. Mark assured me he dealt with the employee. He wanted me to return but I explained the employee slandered me. Was not comfortable. To be fair this is a fantastic business. Mark felt very bad and did the best he could, but it was too late. I fully recommend Body Mechanics. This was a very embarrassing fluke. Will never return. The agency I use now is close by and no problems whatsoever. Friendly desk workers. The appointment made recently brought back very bad memories. It set off a bad taste which caused me to write this review much later. Every aspect of this business is fantastic except an overzealous employee that totally screwed up. read more

I've had chronic lumbar back pain due to a congenital issue most of my adult life. After a work accident I went into debilitating pain with severe radiculopathy. I've had days where I can barely walk and am in agonizing/depressing pain. Mark is my therapist but I consider him my doctor for any orthopedic issues. He is extremely thorough and detail oriented upon examination. His examination and diagnosis is far more in depth and hands on, in my experience, than any orthopedist I've ever been to. He is also very strong which is vital for muscular patients in need of deep tissue work. I've had therapy prior to Body Mechanix where the therapist either didn't touch me much at all or just wasn't pressing/manipulating hard enough for relief. I've literally stumbled/limped in with debilitating pain, had Mark work on me, and walked out feeling normal. In addition to all of this the office is very clean and you do not feel like you're just another number in a mill. I guarantee you will never have that horrible suspicion that the clinic is waisting your time and milking your insurance at Body Mechanix. Thank you so much Body Mechanix! An incredible therapy center! I had serious problems with both knees and my right quads...so bad I could barely walk and the pain kept me up nights. Andy and the team there provided A+ service, never rushing me even if I was the last patient of the day (esp. during the current Corona situation). I am now walking over 4 miles a day... no pain, just gain. I would like share my bad and good experience. On 11/23/2017 had accident in which i broke both ankles but completely broke left one in many places it 13 screws and 4inch plate to put everything back together. After 45days in bed I had right cast taking off and week later left one. I was afraid of therapy not knowing how painful that would be. I met Mark who's outstanding person terrific therapist he explained process and had me walking on my own without cane in 2 weeks. I continue make progress thanks to him and his great staff. Where do I begin? After a total knee replacement at UCLA in late March I began home Care PT For 2 weeks. When I started my PT with Mark and his crew, my knee was not on track as far a mobility and flexibility. I continued to have a few "complications" from my surgery that did not always allow me to be my best self. This team of professionals stepped in with compassion and understanding all the while pushing me to do the best I could. My personal PT Andy has been firm in getting my knee to where it needs to be with constant set backs. After rotator cuff surgery I developed frozen shoulder during my recovery, all while having Physical Therapy (PT) at another facility. After 3 months I was told that I no longer needed PT. That "at home exercises would get be back to where I was, but it would take time". I still was unable to perform daily hygiene functions! As a competitive athlete competing in various sports at tournament levels I was very disappointed. In less then 3 months, Body Mechanix had me participating in the sports I love! From the very first day I met Mark, he took my recovery personally. He listened to me and catered each session specifically to the needs of my shoulder recovery. I came here for lower back pain coupled with sciatic nerve pain shooting down my left leg. After my first session with Eric I felt relief. The stretches I was given did and continue to help me daily to help get simple relief. Overall I have nothing bad to say about this establishment. Five star rating for a five star place. I have had various body parts worked on by Marc, Andy and Eric. My most recent issues were for rehab related to spine fusion, back, neck, shoulder and feet. Without Marc and his mechanix, I would be in trouble. They are so knowledgeable, caring, wise and skilled at what they do. I feel better, and although I am not 100 percent yet, I am on my way. It is a wonderful blessing to work with a PT staff who can problem solve. When you say it hurts, they dig and dig till they figure out "why" it hurts and then they come up with a specific exercise or treatment to scratch at the itch. On top of that, if something is too painful or difficult, they come up with an alternate way to handle the same issue in a different way that you can accomplish in a positive manner. Let's not leave out the admin staff. You get an auto text from the appointment desk at least a day or two before your appointment reminding you of the date and time. They are friendly on the phone and in person and know your name. Same goes for all the assistants (Suzy, Bri, Nick and the others). They care to make you the center of the world even though they are doing it for several at the same time. If I need to go back, I will only take my body to the Body Mechanics at Body Mechanix. read more

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience at this facility. I came here after experiencing persistent neck and back pain from a recent car accident in which I was at-fault. From the beginning, the front office staff seemed very concerned about the fact I was going there for a car accident and wanted to make sure that it wasn't the other person's fault. They explained that they've had trouble with claims for car accidents when the patient was not at fault because insurance expects the at-fault party to pay for any medical expenses. I understood their concern and re-assured them that I was the at-fault party. However, before booking my appointment, the receptionist said said she wanted to double-check with the owner because he may want me to pay up-front in cash and then re-imburse me when my insurance paid. Now that seemed funny to me, especially since I'd been to my PCP and and orthapedic doctor and niether of them had any issues with just billing my insurance as normal. But when she called back she said that I wouldn't have to do that and so I booked my appointment. At the appointment, things got worse. First, I waited for at least a half hour to be taken in by the therapist, who supposedly, was the owner himself. It seemed as though he was squeezing me in as he was also working with another patient, for the majoprity of my appointment I might add, at the same time. And then he questioned me again about the accident and whether I was the at-fault party. He asked, "you're sure it wasn't the other person's fault?" And again, he explained their insurance concerns to me. I was literally in shock and was really beginning to feel uncomfortable and creeped out. Again, neither my PCP or the orthapedist expressed any such concerns. This is just so unprofessional and no way to treat patients. As I left, the receptionist wanted to book my next appointment, which I DID NOT do. Instead, I went to another PT office. And, just as my PCP and othrapedist, not even once was there any grilling me about who was at-fault and concerns about insurance paying in the way Body Mechanix did. I chose this facility because of all the great Yelp reviews but now I'm not sure how they could be real considering how unprofessional they are and how poorly treated I was. read more
