I was a walk-in on a weekday afternoon and was greeted at the door by the spa's black and white dog named Panda. The spa was not busy so I was able to get the choice of a male or female massage therapist without making a reservation. As a first-time customer I also received a 20% off discount, which all Yelpers can receive, when they check-in on Yelp. I was given a form to fill out indicating any problem area and the type of massage I wanted to receive. I chose the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage and wrote that I like firm massages on the form. I was escorted by my masseuse to a tiny room where I was told to undress and lie down under the cover. I was brought a cup of water. An extra cover is available upon request to your masseuse. The room really was cold and my masseuse told me that it was the normal temperature of the spa. If you feel cold ask for more blankets and wear the robe provided if that makes you feel more comfortable. My masseuse was great and gave me a very firm massage per my request. Her hands were very strong and she asked me to let her know whenever I wanted her to give a softer massage. Although it hurt a bit, I knew that a firm massage would be best to loosen muscles and have the massage be effective in the days ahead. I left feeling much better than when I first came in 90 minutes prior. The following day I really felt the effects of the massage. My shoulder and back muscles were sore when I woke up. The day after that, the soreness went away and I felt great. The power of massage works again. I am giving a four star rating because there aren't any "extras" that I have found at other spas, such as a larger more comfortable room for the massage. The very cold temperature of the room was also a drawback. The spa lacked ambiance, and other than the cup of water given at the beginning of the session, nothing else like hot tea and snacks are available. I've been meaning to try this place out because of its location. It's about a block away from my work and offers the same spa services as my other spa, so I thought why not. I've been wanting to try microdermabrasion for a long time now to see if I could lighten some of my freckles. I'm too scared to do full on acid peels or stuff like that. So I made an appointment and went ahead and gave it a try. The spa is small. The room was not well equipped in that there was no place to hang up your clothes or put your handbag after you've changed. At first there wasn't even any soothing music. I was a bit disappointed. The service itself was good. My therapist Kim was really nice. She explained what she was going to do and walked me through it. The microdermabrasion part wasn't painful or uncomfortable at all. And afterwards, she did things to my face like one would a mini facial. The whole experience was fine. I was just disappointed at the facilities. This trip was all about me. I had a massage here a few years ago but it was only an hour, and the therapist, Wallace K., suggested an hour and half next time. So that's exactly what I did. And I was pretty happy that Wallace still worked here. I carry most of my stress in my upper back and shoulders. No offense ladies, but because I have such a tough outer shell (LOL), I really need the strength of a male to break through. Wallace worked intensely on several spots that were really tight and even commented that the muscles near my right shoulder blade were really tough to work. But I am happy to say that it really helped toward relaxation. I get annoyed with people, especially during the holidays because everyone is in a hurry or scrambling around and not being very thoughtful or courteous to those around you. After my massage, the world was a different place. The price is reasonable and I highly recommend 90 minutes. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes when you're lying there, and beginning to relax, you can hear a siren go by. However, true relaxation allows you to block out everything and focus on yourself. I received a deep tissue massage and I believe with a little lomi lomi. This is one of the best places in the Honolulu area worth going to. It's not like those fancy resort places, but the quality of massage therapy is what really counts. I was also intrigued that they took insurances which helped with the cost tremendously. Although prices are reasonable and massages are fair pricing. They are very prompt to answer the phone as I called to book an appointment. I love Panda such a cute welcome. The receptionist gave me all the information needed cost wise, insurance wise as well as booking an appointment within a reasonable time. As I walk in I feel an immediate homey vibe which helps relieve the stress of a cookie cutter white walled dr office. I did come in 15 mins early knowing I'd have to fill out paperwork considering I'm a new client. Anyways Dr.Bui has such a great energy to her. She made me feel comfortable considering it was my first chiro appointment. She throughly explained everything she was doing and why. The 10 min steamer is pretty intense but totally worth pushing through it. She also did a short but awesome deep tissue massage, her pressure was strong, but I like it like that. The most extensive chiropractic appointment I've ever had. Usually at other places I just go in and get an adjustment and then leave, but with Dr Bui, it's like the royal treatment. I arrived 15 mins early to my appointment for the coffee wrap and was asked to fill out a first time customer form. Yuki then escorted me to the back into a small clean room. Asked me to strip and faced up under the sheet. She did a dry exfoliation and then applied the 'coffee' mix and then wrapped me up. She did a mini scalp massage and then left me to relax. I fell asleep. Was woken up, given a robe and escorted to their shower room to rinse off. After, I returned to my room to get a short body massage. Yuki was overall very professional and courteous. What was supposed to be a 95 minute service was shortened to a 65ish minute service. They could have left me in the wrap longer! After, I was given a cup of water as I was checking out. The receptionist lady quickly offered to have me relax in the tiny lobby as I finished my water, but I was disappointed overall and wanted to leave quickly. I have not even step foot at this place and yet I find their professionalism the worst. I schedule an appointment for a massage online for Memorial Day. I get a call the following day saying the need to move my appointment up, so I changed my schedule to accommodate it. Then they call me realizing its Memorial Day and they decide to close and wants to reschedule me... Excuse me? 1. Very unprofessional to have availability for a message on your website for that day and just decide to cancel my appointment because you just realized it's a holiday. 2. Let's not discuss this properly with the client and just left a voice mail to reschedule.. NEGATIVE! So I called back and just told them straight up to cancel and don't want to get a message there and look for a new place.. The reception said "NO, NO let me talk to the manager, I'll call you back." I was already heated.. Found a new place and was expecting a call back by that night but I called them back. Once again I said I want to cancel my appointment, "oh we found someone to do it that day but can you do it this time.." I asked what happened to calling me back? And No, I'm going somewhere else. I want a refund.. She rushed me off the phone and told me to cancel online... 4 days later, I see that I have not been refunded. I called and ask what's the hold up with my refund, I did exactly what you told me and yet I'm not seeing any transaction of being refunded.. I recently went back to Honolulu to attend my best friend's wedding & I made an appointment to see Dr. Vu at the Downtown Spa location. I had the Chiro #2 package- he combined chiropractic, electrical & trigger point therapy in this treatment. I had been running all around town since I was part of the wedding party and after seeing Dr. Vu, my neck/back felt tons. I wish I could bring him back with me since I haven't found any chiropractor here that is as good as he is. When I was at the spa I also booked an appointment for a Brazilian & under arm waxing-I've waxed these areas plenty of times before but I was kind of skeptical going to someone new. I was recommended to get the numbing + medi cream and applied it 45 minutes before my waxing. The waxing table and equipment area was very clean and appeared sanitary. Fumiyo was my esthetician and she was talked to me the entire time about what she was doing so I'd feel comfortable. I really liked that. She used a low temperature blue wax for both my under arms & Brazilian. I wish I lived in Honolulu again because I would have Fumiyo wax me every month :) read more

Honestly, it's a no-frills place so if you're looking to be pampered with all the stops vis-a-vis Ho'ala (defunct Aveda @ Ala Moana) then go somewhere else. However, I've also been to Mandara, a hotel spa, and they shuffle you here and there very business-like, mass-marketed and noisy (I probably went on a busy day)... But anyhow, this is about Body & Mind Spa, not anywhere else. I've been to both locations. First went to the Beretania location with coupons (spafinder.com). The place isn't all posh and they don't give you some foot soak or anything, but the people are nice, friendly, sociable. It also smells pretty good. The rooms aren't super adorned, but it's got the ambiance - the music, the lighting, the smells - to get you there. I had the massage and facial with my mom. The facial was SORE as heck but my mom loved it, and she ONLY wants to get them here. I, on the other hand, am hesitant cuz the extraction process really hurt (and I've experienced childbirth). That was with Dr. Vu, but my mom goes to the Japanese woman (sorry forgot her name) and she really likes her. The massage therapists are great - sociable and good at what they do. Last few times we did the couples thing. Pricewise... well, they're not any bargains but they're convenient (the other half lives across the street) and they're not bad. They've also expanded and it looks like they're working to fix up the place maybe to make it more welcoming. Because of my mostly positive experience at the Beretania location, I noticed they had one at Pearlridge. Couple of times after a vball tourney I'd be sore the next day and happened to be walking around the mall. Perfect! I've had their chair massage - I can't remember the older Japanese lady's name but she's always there - and all three times were AWESOME. Seriously. That lady knows what she's doing. She also tells me certain stretches to do and man... I mean, I know I was just particularly sore but she got my muscles relaxed and sped up the healing process. I also finally got us to get a couples reflexology thing, which was cool. I totally believe in the foot thing. I am about to make an appointment for an adjustment so I can be straight for my massage. I have not been to the downtown location, but I always go to the Pearlridge location for convenience. It's close to my home, and the chiropractor, Dr. Tang gives good service, and he is friendly. When making an appointment, if you request for an alignment and massage, he will massage you too. There's also a good massage therapist, Erwin, who gives good Thai and deep tissue massage. They always offer water or tea after my massage or alignment, and they always have someone who is available for a chair massage too. Try it out! Btw, the comments from previous reviews about their staff, its not like that when I go there. I mean, maybe its because I get an alignment every week, so they know me by name, but most times the receptionists are multi-tasking and they are usually quite busy, but they always say hi or if they are busy, they smile and tell me that they will be right with me. read more

The location is very convenient -- it's on Beretania, kitty corner to the downtown fire station. My first experience was getting adjusted by Dr. Vu. My friends had gone for massages and facials and they were very happy, so I decided to see for myself. I was surprised that the price was very reasonable ($25) and he didn't pressure me into paying for a long drawn-out treatment plan, like some Chiropractors do. I decided to stop in while my husband was getting a hair cut. I was lucky they had a slot available, I chose the Swedish massage for 30 minutes. It was wonderful, it actually felt longer than 30 mins. My masseuse was Celeste, her hands worked miracles in such a short time. The pressure from her hands were perfect and she was very helpful. I had a very disappointing experience here yesterday and today. My appointment was yesterday with Maria, and it was anything but relaxing or helpful. She talked way too much during my service, and kept having me move on the bed up and down and scooting over to the side of the table. Also she only used two towels to cover me up instead of a blanket. Therefore my lower legs stayed uncovered throughout the session and my upper body even when she was working on my lower half. I left the massage pretty sore especially my neck and head. But know after some sessions you can be sore depending on how tense you are. However last night I could barely sleep due to the pain in my neck and this morning when I woke up it was more intense. I can't even turn and look side to side or lift my arms up without experiencing pain. I called to let the office know what was happening and that I do not want to see Maria again and that I was even on my way to the hospital due to the pain I was in and all the receptionist could say was I'm sorry but I can notate that you don't want to see her again. I just would have appreciated a little more sympathy and kindness after getting injured by one of your masseuses. read more

I've been here over 3 times for waxing and the last time I went, for a maintenance, they charged me for a "first time" wax, which doesn't make sense to me, if you are getting maintenance done. So, my experience here was good, until they charged me too much. Btw, the front desk at the Pearlridge spa is a bit unfriendly. The atmosphere doesn't feel too spa like. The front desk didn't greet me at all when I entered, my actual Esthetician greeted me and took me straight in. So, I am not sure if i'll go back to this place. Parking is a bit pricey (I paid $6.00 on a weekend for all day parking) if you park across the street but there are other public parking lots close by that is much cheaper. I agree that the spa was on the smaller side, however I found the wonderful service there more than compensated for it. :) Because I have trouble with acne and facial scarring I am very self-conscious when it comes to my face. I don't normally like to discuss it with people and feel embarrassed when I do. My consult with my therapist, Vu, put me at ease and made me feel very comfortable. He was very patient while explaining the procedure to me and answered all of my questions. He was also very gentle and thorough while performing the facial treatment, always checking to see if I had any discomfort or needed anything. After the treatment was done and my skin had finished peeling (don't worry, that's supposed to happen with the dead skin!) my face looked and felt WONDERFUL! I would definitely recommend Body & Mind to anyone interested in a facial or getting treatment for acne and scarring like me. read more

i came here because i was desperate. i have learned my lesson. my wax was too hot. my waxer was not very careful and pulled more skin than hair. and when i went to pay i was notified that the register was busted AFTER my service so they couldn't accept my cash payment. last i remember, the register being broken is your problem, not mine. if i'm paying and not asking for change back then it shouldn't be an issue. figure out how to tip your people after i go instead of forcing me to use a credit card. read more

The man has incredible hands - I usually don't ever get massaged by men due to most of them having rough hands or hairy knuckles, but this guy's hands are as soft as a baby's bottom. No joke.
