The problem with being an LMT is we tend to get picky as massage therapists and the places that I went to had therapists going for a general routine rather than addressing the issue. Derwin was truly an exception. His style is a combination of shiatsu/acupressure. Dry massages are usually not my go-to relax modality but I woke up with an intensely stiff shoulder and unable to lift my arm above my head. So, I called out work and found Derwin situated at Dr. Kikuchi chiropractic office on the second floor. Keep in mind, the entrance is in the back facing residential blue buildings. Parking is available for the building. I texted Derwin in the morning and he got back to me promptly. He had excellent communication from the beginning of texting to throughout the session I had with him in the table. Derwin asked questions specific to my pain while having great bedside manners. He managed to fit in a whole body shiatsu, working on those lovely pressure points from head to toe within the 60 minutes. What I love about Derwin's style is he follows a similar rule that good quality LMTs do-- he does not go more than the pain threshold; meaning, you'll certainly feel it, but you won't be tapping out as if you're in a cage fight. After the session I could lift my arm, bend down to reach, and feel ready to (almost) go back to work. Something the Tylenol couldn't do earlier that morning. Proof is in the pudding!
