Wow - this place is a gem! Boelter is similar to Fein Brothers in that it's a restaurant supply store that welcomes the public. The upside to Boelter is Saturday hours, parking lot and a modern showroom. First - they have EVERYTHING. I mean it - pots, pans, utensils, weird serving dishes, prep stuff, bathrobes, coffee pots, giant potato mashers, chef shoes, cleaning supplies, huge deep fryers and Brewers Tupperware. Have you ever wished for one of those little silver dishes that restaurants put butter pats in? Look no further - it's yours for a mere $2. Second - staff is kind and helpful. They'll explain how it works to newbies and then let you go on your own personal voyage of discovery. Third - prices. They are good. A Wusthof chefs knife for $30? A sleeve of 100 jello shot cups for $1.29? Brewers Tupperware set of $15? All present and accounted for. They're a great source for catering/big party supplies too. They even sell paper chef hats (the tall, cylindrical ones) by the case - who doesn't need that? Fourth - Cooking classes. The fine people at Sur la Table have the balls to charge $70 per PERSON for a class. Boelter is $35 which includes a $25 credit to the store = $10 class. Most are taught by Michael Feker so that's going to be....entertaining. In conclusion, there's no better place to go when you need a turnip twaddler or whatnot for some obscure recipe. This is the holy land for those interested in cooking. Even my husband who is cooking stupid (he would probably burn water LOL) enjoyed this place. For me it brought back memories of working in a kitchen and now my husband is in total agreeance for buying a professional stove when we build a house. I would see an item and tell my husband a funny story about it. The prices are pretty good and they have good brands. My only complaint is you have to buy a dozen dishes at once. I found the perfect set but for a household of two we don't need a dozen of everything! Oh and I wish they sold chopsticks in bulk, but I have amazon for that. I needed something specific, spoke to customer service, gave manufacturers item number and was told they had 133 in stock of a heavier version. I get to store and the item presented was nothing like what I was told by customer service. Also was reminded that they closed at 5pm (I got there at 4:50). I made a special, out of my way trip for this particular item. I should of asked for a picture of the item before driving the 40+ miles to pick it up. 2 stars. This review is about the cooking class and not necessarily the store. Imagine watching Milwaukee James Beard nominated chefs in a cooking contest.....take that Top Chef! The owners and chefs from c1880 and Ardent did an amazing cooking demo. They are good friends and ironically look like they could be related. If you ever do this again, you have to go! The store is open to the public so the pricing I think is a little higher than Restaurant Depot. However, it is very clean and organized unlike other restaurant supply stores. It pays to shop where the chefs do. I shop Boelter for everyday kitchen items as well as items I need for charity/volunteer events. Many of the serving tools and baking items are sold at great price points and the staff is very helpful and friendly to work with. Some of the items are restaurant specific, however they carry a lot of products like Reidel stemware, cast iron cookware and cleaning products that work great anywhere. As other reviews stated, some items are only sold in bulk (large packs, cases, cartons, etc.) but some items are sold by the piece as well. In the backroom area they also have a scratch and dent section for even better values. When I purchase serving items/cartons/baking accessories for charity events, their prices cannot be beat for the large quantity items. This means more for the charity! This is a great place to check out on a Saturday morning/early afternoon if you are interested in foodie culture and you like to cook. They are also offering cooking classes this spring and have information listed on their website. Fun Fact: I purchase most of my stainless steel items here: measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, ladles, etc. The prices are fantastic and the products are well made. read more

So I can't argue with anything that anyone else has said. You can find things here that you can't find anywhere else - it's a great spot for the general public to access chef/restaurant level cookware. Even as a chef who has access to this stuff via order, I still shop in the store every time I go to pick something up for work. They also have spectacular warehouse sales and you can buy yourself a kegorator and other ridiculousness that you don't really need but totally want. But one of the things that I hate is they have this huge display area of stuff and none of it is well marked with a name or style, none of it has prices and there is never anyone working in the area to help you get that information. This includes all the flatware, all the ceramic tabletop stuff, all the knives - there's just this giant display floor in the middle that is like "look, but don't ever think about attempting to buy." More than once I've found things there I've wanted, written down the small bit of information I can find on a sticker and looked it up to buy online elsewhere. read more

Went there with mkefoodies. As usual, it was a good eve. Store has a huge collection of cook supplies that caters to both restaurants and the general public. Boelter staff ppl were very helpful. I bought a new fry pan for my morning omelet and got advice on which was best for my use. Interestingly, they recommended the least expensive one. I also got a silicone spatula to replace one I bought years ago. I'd been looking for one like this (without success) in every kitchen utensil department for a while.
